Open Thread: Rolling Stone's Descent into Liberal Paranoia
In a 10,000 word poison-pen biography on Fox News Channel president Roger Ailes, containing all expected anti-FNC paranoia, Rolling Stone's Tim Dickinson engages in what has sadly become standard practice for the left's Fox haters: he slimes the channel, then fails to produce a single quote from a supporter of the network. And for all of Dickinson's concern over Fox's supposed influence on conservative politics (Ailes's main offense, by Dickinson's telling), the piece of course pays no heed to the dominance of liberalism in American newsrooms. In short, as Mark Judge noted at the Daily Caller, Ailes's offense is one against liberalism, not against journalism.
He accuses Ailes of “blurring the line between journalism and politics,” and astonishingly has nothing to say about how liberals do the same thing — has Dickinson never heard of George Stephanopoulos? Jay Carney and the platoon of journalists who now work for Obama? MSNBC? NBC? Dickinson brings up Willie Horton, never acknowledging that Horton was first the creation of Al Gore. He claims that in the 1984 campaign Ronald Reagan “ditched the facts” — about everything. Dickinson claims that in 1988 Roger Ailes “rigged an interview [with vice president George H.W. Bush] about the [Iran Contra] scandal by insisting on an odd caveat: that the interview be conducted live.”
Insisting on doing an interview live? Why, that’s right out of the Goebbels playbook.
Dickinson ignores a basic, irrefutable fact: Fox News commentators like Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity don’t only routinely ask representatives from the left to be on their show, they get frustrated when said liberals chicken out and refuse to appear. In a deceptive chart that is part of Dickinson’s piece, a day in the life of Fox News is charted. The only thing Rolling Stone left out are the Democratic guests that were on the very shows that Rolling Stone is criticizing. Like it or not, Fox, which does tilt conservative (“lean backwards”?), wants the other side represented. The same thing cannot be said for MSNBC. Or The New York Times. Or The Washington Post. Or CBS. Or “The Today Show.”
Judge reminds us that Rolling Stone, believe it or not, was once a forum for, you know, "journalism."
My, how far we have come. Thoughts on Judge's piece? On Dickinson's?Although it’s a distant memory from another epoch, I remember that in 1970 Rolling Stone won the National Magazine Award for its coverage of the hippy disaster at Altamont in 1969, when a man was killed at a Rolling Stones concert in California. Rolling Stone’s coverage was brilliant, and very critical of the rock-and-roll left. The award citation praised the magazine for its ability to “challenge the shared assumptions of its readers” — a lovely phrase that Rolling Stone has forgotten.

When journalism became openly liberal and partisan, all journalistic ethics and practices were thrown out the window. These magazines are now just liberal harangue and propaganda sheets. They are worthless to anyone expecting to read something akin to the truth.

Once again, the Chairman played golf and played yesterday on Memorial Day. This makes 70 times now. It's getting to where the more I hear about this, the less I want to play golf. I haven't played since a year ago.
Amazing the amount of disrespect and lack of caring this possob shows.

That would be CINCPOSSOB to "we the people."
I hope everyone saw the piece on Fox News about President Bush leading the First Annual Wounded Warrior 100 mile bike ride through the Texas hill country. What a contrast to our CINCPOSSOB.
My money says CINCPOSSOB wouldn't have survived the first day of that ordeal, much less survived the whole 100 miles.
Worth watching if you can find it on the Fox news website. I'm pretty sure they would post it.
Some lead, some follow, and some just take up space on the golf course.

CnC
Submitted by jon_torlin on Tue, 05/31/2011 - 1:35pm.
I understand your reference to that, and have no argument against it.
However, and speaking as someone in a leadership position myself, I would NEVER denigrate the title of Commander in Chief on that possob, because he's hardly a leader, not even a little.
Now had he had actual military experience........*giggle*snort*LOL!!*........sorry, can't picture him in the military without snorting with laughter, wouldn't last a day in boot camp....anyway, if he had been a military man......*giggle*snort*LOL!!*....sorry, didn't mean to infer that he was a man....geez, can't get through this without laughing. Let's try this:
George Bush was a military man *ahhh much better now*, so he was a real Commander in Chief. He was also a real man. And before anyone gets their hackles up about this, even Clinton was a CinC because he was a governor and governors have their state national guards.(yeah, I know, might be a stretch there, but you get the idea) That means Sarah Palin would be a military woman because she had the Alaskan National Guard. And on and on about other governors and people who served in the military.
The Chairman is better at being a thug than he is at being a leader and a man. He's the worst kind of CinC if I were to call him that, and I won't, just like I refuse to call him potus but instead, The Chairman.
And he will always be a POSSOB.

And the writer also notes that the US military give the CinC a lower approval rating than the general public do.
Something that Joe Klein is apparently unaware of.
The Perfect Statue of Obama
Submitted by Chris Norman on Tue, 05/31/2011 - 10:34am.
I propose a statue of Obama be constructed of the fitting medium - paper mache made from all the pages of newspapers, magazines, and paper transcripts of the broadcast shows. After all, they made the real thing, why not a statue? This statue, should be left out in the elements and allowed to melt and dissolve - much like the real life man's image - once reality overcame the media hype. The perfect symbolism all around.

Well, yes, I see your point, but I think a flimsy statue made up of literally from all the words that built the false image of Obama would be more a little more direct. Plus, there is the stench factor - I'd want people to be able to stand getting close enough to actually see the thing. :)

Wenner sucks. Yes is a no:
"Wenner has endured quite a bit of controversy during his career, as it relates to his involvement in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Fans and supporters of several artists, which include Steve Marriott, Chicago, Deep Purple, Kiss, The Monkees, Electric Light Orchestra, Yes, Jethro Tull, Linda Ronstadt, The Miracles, The Marvelettes, Mary Wells[14], The B-52s, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Rush,[15] The Guess Who, Bachman–Turner Overdrive and The Moody Blues,[16] have placed a large amount of blame on Wenner for keeping them out of the Hall of Fame. They claim Wenner has lobbied to keep them from consideration and nomination to the Hall based on personal bias and a dislike for their music."

Keeping Rush out of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
Thanks, Mr. Wenner, for ensuring that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame remains illegitimate. Bad enough you are a Leftist hack. But to stand against three of the greatest musicians of all time (and Canada's single greatest contribution to world civilization!) is just inexcusable.
On another note: maybe we can delay Rush's induction until 2014, when Dream Theater gets inducted on its first year of eligibility...

As for Reagan's "ditching the facts" ...
Submitted by goldentoadster on Tue, 05/31/2011 - 11:31am.
During Reagan's administration Rep. David Obey commissioned a report on the economy that claimed to show, as a result of Reagan's policies, the rich getting richer, the poor getting poorer and the middle class disappearing -- just what Marx had predicted (and had never happened in reality). This was his response to the embarrassing fact that Reagan's policies had produced a boom, rather than the depression the Left had confidently predicted.
No surprise that the report had a Marxist slant -- Obey had hired two Marxist economists from Columbia University, Barry Bluestone and Bennett Harrison. The story was splashed all over the press for a couple of days until it got pointed out that Bluestone and Harrison had "misplaced" a decimal point, creating a trillion-dollar error. The middle class was indeed getting a little smaller, but because so many middle class people had become wealthy; in fact, all segments of society were better off except for those who were dependent on government handouts.
I worked for Rolling Stone for a while back in the day, and I did get the impression that Jann found power more interesting than journalism. Or perhaps that he saw journalism as a road to power and influence.

Liberal Paranoia
Submitted by Conservator on Tue, 05/31/2011 - 12:19pm.
I say enjoy it because it will only get much worse when they realize Obama's economic and foreign policies will cost him the election in 2012 - I think most already see the handwriting. Regarding Roger Ailes and FOX NEWS, it should be noted that in addition to liberal guests or news contributors, FOX employs liberal anchors as well.
Shep Smith and Geraldo Rivera are just two. Also, they have many liberal journalists as well. If I recall correctly, Ailes hired over 60 people from NBC as FOX became a player in cable news - not a great place to find conservatives. The problem for news outlets like ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and MSNBC is that they all compete for the same left-wing audience.
Nothing unusual for this rag
Submitted by Mary Louise Turner on Tue, 05/31/2011 - 12:28pm.
Rolling Stone has been a waste of paper for decades now, so this vendetta against Roger Ailes is nothing new. In 2008, both Mr. McCain and Mrs. Palin were absolutely trashed by the rag, whose editor was (and still is) a major Ears supporter and made no bones about it. Expect more of the same when the GOP nominee is chosen in 2012, and perhaps worse.

Sure, these cops deserve their day in court. However, from the looks of things, why they aren't immediately fired and permanently barred from ever serving in any law enforcement capacity again is beyond me.
(Some posters, like AJB, wherever he is, however, would consider this GREAT police work and demand we all shut up and never again question cops. Because to him and some others, the cops are ALWAYS right, and WE work for THEM, not the other way around.)
