Open Thread: Inhofe Claims Dems Want High Gas Prices

By NB Staff | May 13, 2011 | 09:35

A  A

Citing a few quotes from administration officials - and the president himself - Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, claimed that congressional Democrats and the Obama White House have no plan for bringing down gas prices, simply because they don't want gas prices to come down. It's quite a provocative statement, but is he right? Check out his video below the break (via Mark Tapscott) and let us know what you think in the comments.

Of course he is right. Obama, before he was elected said he thought gas should be 5 bucks a gallon, like the rest of the third world. And energy prices, under his policy, would sky rocket. Obama don't want lower fuel prices. He wants more wind and solar.

Maobama cares anything about wind and solar "power". His concern is that the government has "power" over every facet of every American's life and that he and his party are the ones weilding that "power".

A head scratcher

Submitted by IgnatzJFahrquar on Fri, 05/13/2011 - 10:43am.

Higher fuel costs = less $ to go back into other purchases, higher cost of food, etc. While I don't have an economics background other than common sense budgeting for the home/life, I would think that the higher fuel costs are going to keep the $hitty economy right where it is.

Not exactly a great idea with upcoming elections. Hey, what do I know.

liberalism = mental disease? Maybe not.

Submitted by jon_torlin on Fri, 05/13/2011 - 11:56am.

Liberalism may be considered a mental disease and liberal dems will exhibit a lot of those symptoms, but the communists want people to depend on them who have no problem depending on the government.

Those people are the ones with the mental disease.

The conservatives, who are the "free thinkers"  who believe in independence and self-reliance, are considered by dems to be trash and castouts that can't be controlled.

...I would only add that if prices are high now, and they are, how much higher would prices be with his Cap & Trade policy? The mind boggles.
And while I'm at it: Stop burning our food for fuel; a fuel worse than any oil based by many standards while only serving to drive up food costs. Cut all subsidies that support bio-fuel/ethanol and save us a boat load of cash at the same time.
And just how convenient of them to NOT use the cost of fuel or food when figuring inflation rates! It's just the Obama way to tell us inflation isn't at nearly 20%...just like Carter's boondoggle of an administration.

Good comment.

How much of that ethanol is produced without burning oil?  Probably next to nothing.

...that it takes more than a gallon of 'regular' fuel to make 1 gallon of ethanol. If that is the case then this is an exponential lose-lose situation anyway you look at it. This bio-stuff was just a knee-jerk reaction when they, (LSM and demoncrats), were blaming Bush for the high cost of gas and oil. And now we are stuck with all the unintended consequences...along with the cost to subsidize it.

Not quite accurate, the actual stat is that it takes more energy to produce a gallon of ethanol than is produced by burning that gallon of ethanol so ethanol production is a net energy drain.

Of course he's right. obama & G.E. want us to buy useless electric cars that can't go 100 miles before recharging. They haven't taken time to develop a viable energy source. It's another way to force us to do their bidding. As for me, I won't stand for it.

What about making us buy the florescent bulbs that require a haz-mat team to clean them up if broken? GE pretty much controls the market on these.

Right out of the statist playbook

Submitted by Kingfish17 on Fri, 05/13/2011 - 12:28pm.

How many people actually dispose of these florescent bulbs in the "prescribed" manner?  Probably very few.  The government, and the manufactures, of these bulbs know that people will be potentially breaking the law when they toss these bulbs into the garbage, just like the old incandescents.

But that's what a nation, ruled by thugs and statists, wants.  They want the citizenry to be constantly in violation of some law or some regulation.  That way, if you get on their bad side, they can figure out some way to prosecute you.

I know at home what  I have

Submitted by ricklail on Fri, 05/13/2011 - 4:38pm.

I know at home what  I have done with the bulbs from my garage-sent to the landfill. It cost us $.04 a foot to get rid of them at work. We go through about 260 4' bulbs every 3 months. Then we have to get a vendor to take the ballast. Then we have the high pressure sodium bulbs that have to go too. We spend about $250 every 3 months to get rid of all those bulbs and ballasts.

If we break one we have to clear the area for 30 minutes. Then go in with rags and tape. Can't use a broom or we have to treat it as hazardous waste. The broken bulb, the rags and the tape use to get up the slivers of glass has to be doubled bagged and sent out to a company that handles hazardous waste.

"What about making us buy the florescent bulbs that require a haz-mat team to clean them up if broken?"

Sadly, a Republican president is responsible for that silly legislation:

"In addition to raising fuel efficiency auto standards 40 percent, an energy bill passed by Congress yesterday bans the incandescent light bulb by 2014.

President Bush signed the 822-page measure into law today after it was sent up Pennsylvania Avenue in a Toyota Prius hybrid vehicle. The House passed the bill by a 314-100 vote after approval by the Senate last week."

Suckered into it

Submitted by jon_torlin on Fri, 05/13/2011 - 4:53pm.

That's one of those things that a lot of people, especially a lot of Republicans, got suckered into signing before they found out the problems inherent with it.  Kinda like the health bill except not as verbose.

Unfortunately, by the time being suckered got realized, the ones who could have had the power to repeal it chose not to and rather like the idea of the nanny state.

...is fighting this on a 'states rights' issue akin to some states gun laws. The bulbs will have to be similarly 'tagged' as an in-state product for in-state use. I like the idea of fighting back but the whole need to is downright ridiculous. As for me, I've been buying a 4 pack every month for the last 9 months. Screw the swirl!
And my sister confessed to just tossing them out, while I didn't even know she went along with using them. If the law is enforced we'll have mercury laced landfills in no time. How's that for environmental impact? 'They' use the environment as reason not to drill for domestic oil, or build any new refineries, not to mention hydro and nuke...but here have some mercury bulbs!))

Submitted by ricklail on Fri, 05/13/2011 - 11:14am.

My dear late grandmother was a very devout Christian. She used to say hell was not going to be hot enough for some people. I am beginning to believe that most of the population of San Francisco would fall into this category. This mocking of Christ on Easter is way over the line. The originator of this had to be old Lucifer, Satan, the devil, Beelzebub.

Although Chris Christie has adamantly said he would not run

Submitted by Rush Fan on Fri, 05/13/2011 - 11:22am.

in 2012, I was hoping he would change his mind. Christie has been my number one choice (and I am certainly not alone) for quite some time. After all, a Republican ticket such as Chris Christie/Paul Ryan would smash Obama/Biden. Just imagine how lopsided the debates would be. So I was surprised when my primary care physician, who is also a political conservative, told me yesterday that Chris Christie has a soft spot for HAMAS. I certainly wasn't aware of that until I searched and found this article by conservative columnist Debbie Schlussel titled Fan of Chris Christie? Check Out His Muslim HAMAS Judge Pick & Other Islamo-Pandering. Schlussel ends her piece with this:

Uh-huh. That’s your conservative. And don’t expect to hear the partisan echo chamber of Hannity, Levin, FOX News, or anyone else expose this disgusting jihadist-pandering by Christie.

In fact, yesterday, Christie was on FOX News Sunday and endured only the slobbering wet kisses of Chris Wallace.

Wake up, conservatives and Tea Party activists. The left has no monopoly on sleeping with the enemy. When it comes to consorting with jihadists, the prostitutes who slept with the 9/11 hijackers ain’t got nothin’ on either liberal Democrats OR conservative Republicans.

To say that I'm disappointed in Christie's pandering is an understatement. My second choice, Mitch Daniels, is not faring any better. The American Thinker, in an article titled The Case against Mitch Daniels makes the case that Daniels is a liberal! Conservative Talk Radio host Mark Levin is also not a fan of Mitch Daniels.

So who is left? Pawlenty?

By the way, if you have any doubt that Wikipedia leans to the left, read their unflattering bio of Chris Christie.

Federalism

Submitted by Kingfish17 on Fri, 05/13/2011 - 12:35pm.

It's too bad that there isn't a candidate for President who believes in Federalism. Wouldn't it be great if a candidate supported our founding principals of limited federal government, and have governmental power concentrated in the states? If someone lived in a state that was trending socialist, then they could move to a state that supported individual freedom, low taxes, and limited government. People "voting with there feet" would actually put pressure on liberal states to clean up their act and get rid of unneeded, unsupportable social programs, because it would be the state's sole responsibility to raise the funds necessary to support those programs.

That would be sweet.
