Open Thread: Democrats' Astounding Hypocrisy on the Ryan Budget

By NB Staff | April 07, 2011 | 08:41

A  A

We knew it was coming. Every person concerned about the nation's impending fiscal collapse knew that any proposal to fix the problem - entitlement spending - would be met by shameless demagoguery and fear-mongering by leading liberals. Minority leader Nancy Pelosi and newly minted DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz did not disappoint. President Obama's own pleas to not play politics with such reform efforts apparently fell on deaf ears. Even Wasserman-Schultz's "civility cop" schtick post-Tucson (so three months ago) hasn't dissuaded her from characterizing Ryan's proposal as a "death trap" for America's seniors (note the media silence compared to Palin's "death panels").

Check out Laura Ingraham blasting their hypocrisy below the break (via Hot Air).

It seems that "Paul Ryan: bogeyman" is shaping up to be the entire 2012 Democratic platform. Do you think it will work?

Three words for Representative Ryan, Dave....

Submitted by Blonde on Thu, 04/07/2011 - 10:19am.

RUN, PAUL, RUN!!!!!

I picked him as my dark horse after O was elected, and nothing that has happened since has made me change my mind.

He is the only one I can think of who can talk rings around Obama, and has done so on national TV. Can you imagine a debate between the two?

The only other Republican I can think of who could soundly pound O is Chris Christy, and while I don't like certain views of his (although he IS from NJ, so he does have a certain kook constituency)....I think we need, first and foremost, someone who is fiscally sane. The rest can follow after we've dug ourselves out of this hole.

Submitted by Newsbubba on Thu, 04/07/2011 - 10:34am.

I also love Ryan and have since he skinned Bambi at that "whatever-the-hell-it-was" meeting about Healthcare back when.

I say let Ryan keep attacking full force on the budget and occupying all of the Democrat fire during this next election cycle.  Then Republicans cans elect someone else while the dems are being pounded by Ryan.  He's young, smart as hell, and he can take it, while taking them to the cleaners on TV everyday.

Then the next president, a Republican, can make Ryan Secretary of the Treasury and he can spend the next eight years fixing this mess.

There is plenty of time for him to run later, and he won't fail after bailing us out of this mess first.  If he runs now and loses to the demagogues, he will be out of Washington and unable to keep beating their brains out.

I know I disagree with you at my own risk, but I want Ryan to succeed now AND in the near future, because he is one smart man.

Dog food for parents

Submitted by jon_torlin on Thu, 04/07/2011 - 9:52am.

Hi all,

I need some recommendations for good dog food to give my parents who are in their 70s.  According to the dems, that's what they are going to be given or fed or have to prepare for meals with, so I figured I'd do a little shopping for them and take care of that.

I got the idea after checking out Rush's show yesterday, still trying to decide between automatic can opener or a manual one.  My dad's got a little arthritis so I might go with a manual one, he could use the exercise for his hands.  This is me being very considerate.

I did approach him about the end of life counseling since he's in his 70s, even though he had a recent doctor's visit and the doctor said he should live for another 20-30 years.  I have to be sure to get some recommendations on which death panels to talk to for him in a year or so.

I especially need to do this for my mom, she's on heart and BP medication, according to the Chairman, she should just have a pain pill, so I need to update the prescription for her.

If you made it this far and can't tell I'm joking, here's a hint, I'm being a touch sarcastic here.  I'm actually laughing about this and I'm crediting Rush for the idea to write this stuff up.

I still disagree  about hunger in the US. As long as there are dead possums in the road there should be no hunger. For you folks in the lower southern states and Texas, that would possums on the half shell, the armadillo.

The Democrats are so dumb when they say they'll have to eat dog food. They can buy a can of Treat, tuna, Vienna sausages, potted meat, deviled ham, sardines or fish steaks for about the same price as a can of dog food. Those are gourmet foods compared to dog food.

Well, seems the "President"

Submitted by bassndude on Thu, 04/07/2011 - 10:38am.

Well, seems the "President" is not only out of touch with the American people, but also with the House. Congress will vote this morning on a bill to totally fund the military, to take the men and women serving, off the table. But this morning, our illustrious leader is using the scare tactic of the troops not getting paid. I am so tired of lies from this bunch.

But on the up side, that is, gas prices, Dear Leader says there is nothing he can do in the next week or two weeks to lower gas prices. Again the lies. How about issuing some drilling permits? How about taking that money from South America and putting US drillers to work? How about selling some lease's in Yellowstone? Oil there, dude. And lets not forget Anwar. In 3 years, if you just put a little effort into it, we could be a net exporter of oil.

I have spoken with some folks here, and we are going to go down and apply for unemployment if they shut down the government. Not for the benefits, mind you, but the feds have skewered the unemployment rate for a while now, and we just figure we can do our part to skewer it the other way. Lets see if they can hide that spike, like they do the others. I don't expect them shut it down long enough to collect anything. A day, perhaps two or three. Last one was three days. We shall see.

gas prices

Submitted by jon_torlin on Thu, 04/07/2011 - 10:54am.

Some of the comments in regards to what he says about gas prices and etc are really tough on him, so much for the love of the chairman.

I get so frustrated with people who don't seem to understand how short term and long term works, especially those who want instant gratification.  Sometimes you have to beat them upside the head and say "one trick with the long term is you get it started, then eventually long term becomes short term."  Idiots.

That one person he told to trade in his vehicle, I wish he had told the Chairman to go to hell for that.  How would he know what kind of vehicle the guy drives by saying it gets 8 miles to the gallon?  What if it's a truck, especially a four by four(that means it drives on all 4 wheels, libs), used on a ranch or for heavy work?  Can't use a fricking prius to haul around bricks and hay and etc.

In the meantime, truckers that haul freight across the country have to raise their shipping prices because the cost of diesel has gone up too, I read somewhere that an 18-wheeler could pay as much as $1000 or more for a full load of fuel.(not counting the delivery trucks that run on regular gasoline though they are feeling it too)  It's a domino effect, shipping goes up which means retailers have to raise their prices to pay for it, they have no choice.  That's when they are hoping and praying that customers will buy their products but chances are greater that they won't because of higher prices.  So the retailer loses.  Liberals just do not get that.

This is a twisted situation to be in.

Obama, Gas prices, the Military, one more CR and Harry Reid

Submitted by bassndude on Thu, 04/07/2011 - 1:18pm.

Jon has it right. Drilling today will not lower prices tomorrow, but it would lower them in 2 weeks. The very idea that exploration is taking place, on and off shore, would force oil prices down and allay the panic futures. This would lower prices at the pump.

The bill to fund the military is attached to CR7. One more week of government funding while cutting 12 billion in spending for that week, and 516 billion to fund the military for the next six months.

Will Harry Reid allow that to go to the Senate? Will Obama go along with it if it was to pass the Senate? My guess is no. Reid and Obama both want a shutdown. Obama is keeping the military on the table to whip the House with. He is going to call it inconceivable that they would use the troops politically. While it is, in reality, Reid and Obama, playing politics with the troops.

Tell your daughter not to worry Rick. IF they do hold up the military pay, arrangements will be made and they will get back pay, if it goes that long. My guess is that they will fund the military, even if they do shut the government down. Normally essential personnel continue to go to work. Now in my case, I was informed today, I will come in, and when they settle this, I will get paid. In the mean time, it is like working for nothing. I work, but there is no one in pay roll to process the money. Went through one of these sometime back. 21 day shut down, I was off 2 days, they called me back in to repair some items. Worked steady for the entire shutdown, and got paid after 3 and a half weeks. If it goes that long this time, I am not sure I can buy gas without getting paid some on pay day.

Submitted by Blonde on Thu, 04/07/2011 - 11:17am.

Oh, the irony is killing me.

I suppose in the Capitol they'll have to declare the elevator operators as essential....heaven forbid members of Congress have to push the buttons themselves.

Well...

Submitted by Grumpy in Arizona on Thu, 04/07/2011 - 11:33am.

Actually, the government elevators are run by committee - along the lines of a straight Up or Down vote of course.

-Grump :o)

P.s. – I will now retire to the penalty box for 5 minutes to atone for saying that.

No elevator operators???

<Elmer Fudd voice>  Oh, the horror!!

I certainly hope they are preparing the Congresscritters for this disaster....with an in-service on elevator buttons and posters of instructions posted in all the cars!

Contessa Brewer

is clearly rattled by Trump sounding off about the Soetoro lack of a birth certificate. Agitated she was.

For once, I would like someone to hold up the Nordyke twins Birth Certificates in front of her and make her address it. She said that she had to "counter" Trump's inaccuracies with "facts". She declared many things and now it is time for TRUMP to TRUMP her directly.

Hey Donald, she just basically called you a LIAR, what are you going to do about that?

The Donald has sent a team to

Submitted by ricklail on Thu, 04/07/2011 - 4:18pm.

The Donald has sent a team to Hawaii to look for the birth certificate. I think he is saying they are not going to make me look like a fool, so I'll find proof he was not born in the US. He is not going to let this thing  go.. He has the money to pay people to research it.

So surprising that I hadn't heard the muslim connection in the news reports. And gee, what a coincidence that he, being muslim, killed 9 girls and one boy. Not that muslims don't like women...
