For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: "Going Rogue."
With her book coming out, and scheduled interviews with Oprah Winfrey and Barbara Walters, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin will continue to be in the news this week.
Of course, this means she will continue to be trashed by all of her detractors in the media.
Question: has there ever been a political figure who wasn't a member of the White House that has received this kind of regular, constant trashing by the press? If so, who?

Palin interviews
November 15, 2009 - 10:23 ET by BlondeBOR was on F&F Sunday this a.m. (does anyone else find this to be far superior to the week-day pap? Love Alyson & the guys)....he is going to do an extensive interview with Palin, which will air Thursday, Friday, and next Monday.
He said he'd talked to Katie Couric regarding "the interview"....so if BOR can shut his big fat opining mouth and actually interview Sarah Palin, it might be worth watching.
I hope he fails, too.
Great question, because she is now only a private citizen
November 15, 2009 - 10:26 ET by jondelwicheIt is stunning the venom the left saves for
those women and minorities it views as "off the reservation."
How can people not celebrate her story? I guess because they fear her and her grass roots populism.
My answer: a rush limbaugh, again because they fear him, but she stands alone for being portrayed as a intellectual "lightweight."
PS--MTP just tried to bait Hilary to bash Palin but she had NONE of it and was absolutely glowing about Ms Palin. salute to Hil!

November 15, 2009 - 10:34 ET by Willis_Leon_JohnsonAwww, now people..
The leftist nutcases are just mad because she doesn't need a teleprompter to deliver resonating speeches.
When questioned, and no teleprompter in sight she gives coherent, relevant responses and answers.
The left has no answer to her abilities of intellectual prowess and they KNOW IT!

Palin drives them crazy
November 15, 2009 - 10:39 ET by GalvanicCertainly not in contemporary politics. As I write this, the Chris Matthews' show is discussing her new book on his show, and it isn't even on sale until Tuesday. Of course, it was preceded by the obligatory Tina Fey impersonation.
Mr. Tingle (Chris Matthews) has just said that Palin's the GOP front runner and the one the others will have to beat. Repeating one of his favorite words, he says she has moxie. Why?
Sarah Palin is a pop culture political phenomenon, but any chances she had at winning the Presidency some day died when she resigned from the governship in Alaska. And I'm sure she understood this.
But as I posted on another thread, the liberal MSM has a sexual fixation with her. As a strong, beautiful conservative woman who is mother-grandmother-athlete-outdoorsman-former governor, she's simultaneously more feminist than the feminist elite, and more masculine than the metro-sexuals at the NY Times, Newsweek, and NBC. They hate her for the very American social and political values she embodies. The contradiction is their unending source of torment, and they lash out at the very sight of her.
She is fun to watch
November 15, 2009 - 12:26 ET by StarAZI keep up with Sarah--even on Team Sarah. She kicks the proverbial. I have no doubt she could "bone up" enough to address issues just as well as "Deliberation Man." And she is a straight shooter. I fear these twits and that goofy commedienne may have deep-sixed her, but I am with her every inch of the way to see what she can do with this situation. As my 27-yr-old daughter said after Palin's onvention speech--"Mom, that woman could do anything." PS I would not have that mouthbreathing Levi over to dinner--but hey, holiday meals are MADE for things like that. We call them the Great Wad-Ups.

November 15, 2009 - 12:27 ET by FastEdThought I'd be as ashamed of my president as I am now - to think that the representative of the greatest country to inhabit this planet, to bow to any other head of state is an embarassment. Can this guy be any more amatureish? For somebody who is "supposed" to so smart to act so stupidly - maybe I'm just reacting without all the facts.

November 15, 2009 - 13:01 ET by BKeyserThe WH says that Barry's speech "enhanced both the position and status of the U.S., relative to Japan."
Did anybody think this was a great concern? Japan? Japan goes bye-bye if not for the U.S. Two decades of a stagnant economy surviving almost entirely on exports to the U.S.and we need to enhance our status? Not like they'll be sending troops to Afghanistan, unless it's Marines from Okinawa...

November 15, 2009 - 13:09 ET by motherbeltNo, B...according to Obama, America is no more important than any other country; no matter what anyone else says. We are no better.
Don't forget that when he was asked on his European field trip whether he believed in "American Exceptionalism" he said:
"I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits
believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek
exceptionalism.
In other words, we are all exceptional... you know, like Lake Wobegone, where all the kids are "above average."

November 15, 2009 - 13:05 ET by motherbeltWeaselZippers has this from an unnamed WH official:
“I think that those who
try to politicize those things are just way, way, way off base,” the
official said. “He observes protocol.....
He does? American protocol says that an American President does NOT bow to royalty....not even the Kennedys!! (OK, I made up that part about the Kennedys....)
But is this official saying that all those other leaders who didn't bow did NOT observe protocol????
And as noted, neither the Saudi King nor the Emperor returned the "courtesy." They both "accepted" his subservience.
Way to go, groveler-in-chief!
mb, see my post
November 15, 2009 - 13:17 ET by FastEdI have to agree - OUR protocol says enough, and unfortunatley, our "bower" in chief, doesn't seem to know that he represents ME (and the rest of us here), and WE don't bow!! Let the WH show us who else has bowed to other heads-of-state. "this is the first time, in my adult life, that I'm not proud to be a citizen of the US". When does the groveling(sic) start??

November 15, 2009 - 14:01 ET by miss911ninjaAnother political figure who received constant trashing by the press was the ultra conservative activist, author, and some would say "populist" (like Palin) Phyllis Schlafly. She really was a force for good. But not according to the left, of course. They made a villain out of her!
