For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: PelosiCare passes by surprisingly narrow margin.
How many people watched much of the debate and vote Saturday? Regardless of the results, did you enjoy it? How do you think this sets up the Senate? Will this narrow margin make it very difficult for Reid to get 60 voters? What's up with the lone Republican Cao from Louisiana breaking ranks?
Finally, and maybe most importantly, do you think Stupak's abortion amendment impacted the final result actually allowing some moderate Democrats to vote for the bill? Or do you think this is a lot of hooey either because an equal or greater number of liberal Democrats especially women might have voted "Nay" because of that amendment passing or that Pelosi was going to get this passed no matter what she had to do?

November 8, 2009 - 10:08 ET by gmaniac1I like how most of the fringe media only reports that one Republican voted for the bill but not the 39 Democrats that voted against the bill. This will not get 60 votes in the Senate.
Agreed~~
November 8, 2009 - 10:14 ET by BKeyser220 is a very bad number for Democrats. Less than 51% approval when the Dems have a 16 point advantage in members is nothing more than a push poll. They'll be lucky if they can get even 51 votes in the Senate, much less 60.
Depressing...........
November 8, 2009 - 10:22 ET by HoosierEmI hope you are right, BKeyser. It seems these democrats, led by what in my opinion is nothing more than a tyrannical administration, will do whatever it takes to pass their tax and spend agendas and continue to blame the deficits on republicans, enabled by the fringe media. And they will continue to get away with it. They do not care what the American people have to say or what they do.

November 8, 2009 - 12:42 ET by R D HelmI think it's just possible something could very well pass in the Senate, even if little more than a blank sheet of paper. If something does pass, the critical time will be when they get it in the conference committee.
God only knows what sort of evil will find its way into the legislation at that point.
I bet they'll quietly sneak the final version in for a midnight vote before anyone outside of congress even knows what is in it.
This is getting scary, because should it be signed into law, the repubs would have to put enough people in place next November to override a veto, and that isn't likely to happen.
By 2012, even if we managed to replace every dem in the House with a repub, and had a 33% turnover in the Senate, it won't matter, as ObamaCare will be too entrenched by then.
All we will then have standing between us and disaster will be the so-called conservative SCOTUS.

I don't think Urban Meyer will fall into that trap....and don't forget, his good friend Billy Donovan signed with the pros, only to back out and stay at UF before 72 hours had gone by. Urban is a guy who trusts his friends, and who on earth would advise him to leave a program like Florida, which he's brought even higher than we'd ever hoped, for ND? No way does he leave for another college, and I don't see him leaving for the pros for at least another 3-4 years, if at all.
I'm far more concerned with losing Charlie Strong right now. He's a great coach, more than ready to be a HBC, although I think he's sick of the controversies surrounding that subject. I'm sure Jeremy Foley is smart enough to make Strong the most highly paid DC in the country.

November 8, 2009 - 10:53 ET by cajun2I watched several hours of c-span debate on the bills. Left wing dems did what was expected. They spoke of grandness, history, nanny actions based on emotions. So typical that they spoke of nothing in the bill. I was surprised and truly impressed with John Boehner's speech. He spoke at length of what is actually in the bill. When, in our history, has congress every passed legislation that penalizes the hard work of ordinary American taxpayers? This is a precedent most Americans have not yet understood or have not yet been told if they watch the Fringe media. It is becoming more evident that this administration has every intention of destroying capitalism as its main agenda. Rush was right. Last month, President Obama gave a somewhat chilling, if somewhat

global warming is unscrupulous, decrying “those who . . . make cynical
claims that contradict the overwhelming scientific evidence when it
comes to climate change, whose only purpose is to defeat or delay the

Party life
November 8, 2009 - 11:35 ET by KC MulvilleThis was a Democrat party operation. It was staged to occur on a Saturday night because they knew (and hoped) that attention was focused elsewhere. The compliant media avoided the debate. The Democrat party leaders pushed through a bill that the American public determined they didn't like, then turned around and said they were doing it because the people had "voted for reform."
Now, let's be clear. Studies show that a crucial component of Obama's election was that conservatives stayed home. Obama had convinced them that he was a modest, moderate, middle of the road guy. He wouldn't do anything excessive or wildly "liberal." That's how the media portrayed him, ignoring every piece of evidence to the contrary. They ignored Bill Ayers, Reverend Wright, Saul Alinsky, and any evidence that showed Obama in a negative light.
This is what happens when you listen to and trust the media. They sold us a fraud.

Promises of hand outs gets them elected but they cant see that their lives have not improved a bit here. But the black leadership in La operate on the same premise as Al Sharpton and J Jackson. Something for nothing or "reparations". Real leadership for blacks here has long been lacking. As a social worker for 30 years, I could see the damage done, low expectations, lack of self reliance, dependence, all for the purpose of political gain by both sides. What are we the producers
November 8, 2009 - 12:01 ET by ConservativeRexWhat are we the producers going to do?
Since our earliest childhood, those of us my age or older (mid-50's) have been programmed, either by our parents or in school, that we need to always follow the letter of the law and what the government says in order to have a civil society. And then we see what happens in our government last night. They use this type of thinking against us. They know that we, as producers, will go out every single day to continue making our living for us, our family and continue to send in our taxes so these assclowns can have an unlimited checkbook to write their checks.
Well guess what, those my age and a bit older don't have a whole helluva lot of time left in the work place to keep doing this BS, then what? I am fortunate enough that I can get the hell out of here when I retire. But I have children and grand kids stuck in this mess that I won't bail on. I still have two sons in our country's military, I won't bail on them. I don't know what we are going to do. For the first time that I can remember I do not have an answer for my children. We tried the old ways, vote 'em out, vote 'em in, so far neither one of those options have worked out too damn well. I feel bad for the young folks.

I will make it as difficult and expensive for the government to confiscate my money as is possible.
Jane Fonda and hundreds of other liberal dipsticks got away with not paying taxes to fund an "immoral" war, I'll withhold my taxes as long as I can.
Re Bank Accounts
November 8, 2009 - 14:01 ET by slickwillie2001Because any version of Obamacare out there includes access to all of our bank accounts for automatic withdrawals and access to all financial and credit records, I expect that hiding money from the federal government will become a booming business. Perhaps the check-cashing business will take off and be used for cashing payroll checks regularly. Employees will demand a paper check, or even cash, vs direct deposits which employers have been pushing. Whenever possible, employees will prefer cash under the table, off the record.
This will turn our financial world upside-down.
Watching the Senate
November 8, 2009 - 14:25 ET by jon_torlinIt will be whatever happens in the Senate at this point that will tell the tale of the future times to come.
I'm already making plans to go to the payroll office and have them take the direct deposit off and in the next few days, if the Senate does indeed make that thing happen, I'll empty out my bank account as well and just hide the cash. I'll keep the bank account open with the bare minimum of $5 for the savings so I can go there and cash my check too.
But this won't help much due to the dwindling value of the dollar. As long as that's happening, what happens to each of our monies doesn't matter as much as what's happening to our economy thanks to the Fed reserve chairman who is slowly killing it. It won't matter if you are doing a fantastic job and have no chance of getting fired or laid off, without some currency to back your pay with, you could still get paid pieces of paper that won't mean a damn thing.(think rubber check)
So we are facing another bad situation besides this health care crap. Gold is almost 1100 dollars, something that hasn't been seen in a LONG time. Unemployment is still going up. THESE PEOPLE NEED TO BE RUN OUT OF OFFICE TODAY!
We're screwed otherwise.

November 8, 2009 - 12:46 ET by metaphorsbwithuDemocrats have a very simple strategy with controversial legislation like this. Get whatever bare minimum of votes needed and allow representatives who might catch heck back home cover by permitting them to vote against it.
The bargaining chips like abortion and illegal immigration will eventually be restored to appease the left by subsequent legislation or court order.
The same will happen in the Senate, unfortunately, where any senators up for re-election will be granted the same cover.
All the talk about not supporting things like public option, abortion, subsidizing illegals, etc. are smoke screens.
The progressive militant simply pushes forward inch-by-inch and worries about the details later ... while the hapless political hacks who are worried about their political futures instead of what's right are guilty of aiding and abetting.

November 8, 2009 - 12:57 ET by snowshoozeI watched the debate intermittantly.
The first one I have ever watched I believe.
It was more a running commentary than a debate.
A lot of claims and counter claims...
But debate? I didn't really think issues were brought to the floor and examined for content to any great degree. I can't really call it a debate.
Stupak is admittedly bait to be thrown overboard as soon as this ship sailed, as upon being pressed, not only was a guarantee not possible...of course, but you would think that one of the Democrats would have at least stood up and said.." I know I cannot guarantee it's retention, however I guarantee to champion the amendment to the limit of my ability" ---or at least something along those lines.
I would have preferred that Stupak not have been adopted as it only gave cover to a couple moderates, which is exactly what it was included to accomplish.
A lot of posturing...a bunch of fluff..
It was cut and dried before they entered debate. Looked more like a public relations gathering to me. Put a camera on a politician...what would you expect I guess.

"Alice Thompson, 53, who manages the two storey block of simple dwellings with her husband John, told The Sunday Telegraph: "It was very unusual because he [Hasan] had never had anyone round before. His visitor had long black hair and a moustache and a dark complexion. He stayed about five minutes and then left. We'd never seen him before."
Hasan also attended the same mosque in Virginia as some of the 9/11 hijackers:
Malik Hasan Tied to 9/11 Hijackers: http://mypetjawa.mu.nu
"Hasan attended the radical Saudi funded mosque in Virginia who's now oft quoted and shocked-and-horrified imam is also a big supporter of the ISNA. What we didn't know was that Hasan attended that mosque at the same time as two of the 9/11 hijackers -- Nawaf al-Hamzi and Hani Hanjour."
Every single person that enters that goddamn mosque should be identified, and followed by the FBI. The fact that someone in the US military was able to attend there and not raise red flags points to incompetence and negligence in our own government. Let's hope that Republicans are able to start a congressional investigation of this outrage.

November 8, 2009 - 14:11 ET by R D HelmTry and find a way to get your money out of this country and as far from the clutches of the federal government as you possibly can, because I have a sneaking suspicion that sometime between now and next November, our Marxist congress might just make a move to go after private retirement money.
There is just too much of it out there for them to ignore, and with federal revenues tanking, and no realistic possibility of raising any taxes that will actually increase revenues, they might just get that desperate.

November 8, 2009 - 15:44 ET by ricklailDidn't the Pleosi crowd mention they wanted to manage the 401K accounts for us?
Funny you should mention this. We got an e-mail Friday at work talking about if you had your check deposited out side the US there was form you must fill out. I guess the days of hiding money in offshore accounts is over.
The attached documents must be provided to every employee in the Department of Correction. If an employee transfers Direct Deposit data to a bank, when the entire payment amount is subsequently transferred to a non-US bank account, they must now complete a new direct deposit form (which is attached). This is urgent and should be completed immediately.

rick, siezing private retirement money was being kicked around
November 8, 2009 - 20:16 ET by R D Helm...by the dems in the early 1990s, but got shelved when they lost control of congress.
As our treasury continues to be depleted, these socialists are going to get desperate. They have already raided SS to the point it's out of money right now.
Private retirement accounts are the only thing remaining.

Bankrupting Your Competition
November 8, 2009 - 17:13 ET by slickwillie2001How Obamacare will bankrupt health insurance companies and ensure that government healthcare becomes a monopoly:
PelosiCare's Price Controls Will Bankrupt...: http://directorblue.blogspot.com
Devious, as you would expect from the snake Pelosi. This way when private insurance goes out of business, they can claim it's not their fault that 'insurance companies can't operate efficiently'.
If only we could keep administrative costs of government agencies to 15%, rather than the usual 100-150%.

November 8, 2009 - 17:40 ET by bigtimerYep...
Illegal Immigration is going to be another...I've heard they are going to wait until after the elections next year....
I sure wished they wouldn't...because it would force the RINOs hand as well...for all to see.
Don't know if they're going to try and slip Card Check in here or there along the way either...the Unions are waiting.

November 8, 2009 - 18:08 ET by jkwtradingFrom a strategic standpoint, Obama needs to push Immigration soon..
the health care bill I feel is his carrot to offer illegals, citizenship then also aquire their votes.
He will need all the votes he can muster come 2010 with his current run intact.
after 2010 he won't have the votes in either chamber to pass a spittoon around.

Yep.
It is simple as that...plus we have RINOs that want the same thing as well, as far as votes go from the illegals.

Re Unions
November 8, 2009 - 19:49 ET by slickwillie2001Obamacare/PelosiCare IS a big sop to the thug unions. They include government subsidized healthcare mandates for community organizations like ACORN, as well as jobs in some of the 1100 organizations to be formed that are mandated to be filled by community organizations, a bailout of UAW's medical care costs for retired members, and biggest bonus of all, all of the government workers that replace private insurance company workers will be unionized.
Watch union membership in our country take off if this nightmare becomes law.

November 8, 2009 - 22:59 ET by bigtimerYep...this is their baby sw, has been from day one...I've put links here before regarding the communist union big-wigs and their plans since Nov. of 08 and it spells all of this out.
They will succeed it this is not stopped in the Senate.
