For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Tomorrow is election day, and (Public Policy Polling) PPP has conservatives in the lead in NJ, VA, and NY-23.
In New Jersey, PPP now has the GOP's Chris Christie leading Democrat Jon Corzine 47% - 41%, with Daggett at 11%.In New York's 23rd District Congressional Race, PPP now has Conservative Doug Hoffman leading Democrat Bill Owens 51% - 34%, with now dropped-out Dede Scozzafava at 13% (her name is still on the ballot).
In the Virginia Governor's race, PPP now shows Republican Bob McDonnell leading Democrat Creigh Deeds by a 56% - 42% margin.
A conservative sweep would be a powerful message (knock on wood).

Dems are already spinning
November 2, 2009 - 09:26 ET by BKeyserDems are already spinning these as unimportant, and referendums on state issues and not federal issues. I wonder what they'd be saying if the polling showed otherwise.
Oh, I've also heard several times this morning the "inherited" [read: Bush's fault] economic mess as the reason these races are close. I think if they look hard enough, the Dems could find ways to blame Ike for the failed ability to create infrastructure jobs. These folks are pitiful.
They spin at their peril.

Jarrett Clip
November 2, 2009 - 09:28 ET by CaringwhiteguyMorning Joe played a remarkable clip from Valarie Jarrett's tour of the Sunday morning talk circuit. It happened quickly and I believe it was from ABC. Talking about Afghanistan she said (and I do not quote exactly) . . . .
. . . the election shouldn't get in our way of ENDING the war. What she did not say was WINNING the war. If that's the case and that's the official White House position then all the dithering has indeed been a sham.
We'll eventually head home losers but the doofusses on the Nobel Peace Prize committee will reap the rewards.
Ending the war

Election coverage
November 2, 2009 - 09:33 ET by KC MulvilleLook for the media to deflect everything away from Obama. It was the candidates, you see, too weak to carry the message of change.
And even if the people speak strongly, don't look for the Democrats to budge. The country already sent them strong messages this summer, and they didn't care about what the people wanted. They obviously don't give a crap -- they're going to do what they want to do.

Good point
November 2, 2009 - 09:59 ET by KC MulvilleThe transparency of the hype is what amazes me. By that I mean, hype is usually intended to sway people who don't realize it's hype. But if you get only one republican and start proclaiming bi-partisanship, even when she definitively said that she won't vote for a public option, everyone knows it isn't bi-partisan. You haven't fooled anyone. All of the pundits, however, repeat the fiction without the slightest pause for review. It's all a kabuki dance.
So, you want to kabuki dance?

Here in Virginia the 2005 and 2007 votes...
November 2, 2009 - 10:04 ET by Prester John....were absolutely described as being referendums on Bush--the Wash Post was quite generous with it's quotes from people who said they voted for the Dems in local races as a way to show their unhappiness with Bush, Iraq, the economy etc.
Now of course when the GOP is likely to win all three statewide positions on the ballot by as much as 10 points, as well as increasing it's majority in the state house of delegates by anywhere from 5 to 12 seats, we are told it's all about local issues and candidates and it just doesn't have anything to do with BHO.
Funny how that works.

I heard the race was canceled due to rain so I made my usual haunt to Lowe's for an up coming project. Later that day I turned on the TV just to see what was on and with 20 laps left I caught the last of the race! At least from what a buddy of mine told me the race was fairly dull until the very last. Did you see Ryan Newman? It looked like someone was trying to get their frequent flyers miles. That was some wild ride!

The Obama Administration: THE most fiscally irresponsible Administration EVER
Re Ford
November 2, 2009 - 10:59 ET by slickwillie2001Should Obamacare pass, I suspect that Americans will not want government healthcare just as they don't want a car from Government Motors. That's why Obamacare is designed to force people into first the exchange, and eventually after private health insurance is destroyed, a single-payer scheme.
The liberal elites that push government healthcare want it for the little people, just as they want little putt-putt cars for the little people while they stick with their Volvos and Mercedes. There's no way in hell that they will accept it for themselves, especially government workers and thug unions that have the gold-plated plans.
Obamacare is a plan that its supporters want, but they want it for someone else.
