For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Palin endorses NY-23 Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman.
The people of the 23rd Congressional District of New York are ready to shake things up, and Doug Hoffman is coming on strong as Election Day approaches! He needs our help now...
The federal government borrows, spends, and prints too much money, while our national debt hits a record high. Government is growing while the private sector is shrinking, and unemployment is on the rise. Doug Hoffman is committed to ending the reckless spending in Washington, D.C. and the massive increase in the size and scope of the federal government. He is also fully committed to supporting our men and women in uniform as they seek to honorably complete their missions overseas.
Will Palin turn the tide in Upstate New York?

It entirely possible...
October 23, 2009 - 09:12 ET by BKeyserin my estimation. She'll likely bring out the National Media on this race now, since few have mentioned it to date. Dick Armey also endorsed Hoffman. Sure will be an embarrassment for Newt, the NRCC and RNC if the RINO gets beat, that for sure.
I want to know who's behind the scenes for Sarah Palin. Personally, I really like her and actually predicted her to be McRINO's running mate about two weeks before the announcement last fall. But no one can do what she's done all by herself, especially coming from Alaska. Nothing wrong with Alaska- it just doesn't get much attention. But someone had to recognize her talent, potential, and star power and communicate that to the McRINO folks with enough persuasion to get her on the national ticket. Who is it/are they? And if they're still involved, they've really got a perfect sense of timing.
~It's simple
October 23, 2009 - 09:16 ET by choselife3xThe RINO's didn't pick her for her talent. They picked her to destroy her career.

POV
October 23, 2009 - 09:28 ET by legacyrepublicanI think your POV has some validity.
My POV is that McRINO chose Palin for the same reason RINOs always do which is to give some lip service to the conservatives before they walk all over us or throw us under the bus.
They seem to say "See, we will include you at the table unlike the Democrats, so sit down and shut up and maybe you will get what you want!"
After this last election, I think we all have had it with what the RINOs have done to us and to the Party.
Hoffman's campaign is the perfect place where we can make it clear to the Republican Party that we won't be ignored or walked over any longer!
chose and legacy~~~
October 23, 2009 - 09:33 ET by BKeyserThe only argument I would make here is that she was chosen to be the VP and even though we all new he wouldn't win, I think McRINO was running to win the Presidency. After the unelectable lost the election, then he became complicit in trying to destroy her career.
~I think he would have liked to win
October 23, 2009 - 14:31 ET by choselife3xBut it didn't look to me like he wanted it enough. Personally, I think a McCain presidency would have been a disaster that would have sunk conservatism for at least the next two decades.
After seeing the way Palin was treated by the GOP establishment, McCain, his campaign workers, etc., I firmly believe the right was trying as hard as the left to destroy her.
Because she's everything they are supposed to be, but aren't, and never will be.
Basically correct
October 23, 2009 - 18:15 ET by UpNorthcl3x, but it wasn't the "right" it was the left of center RINO's. I think that McCain's handlers and his daughter found out they'd picked someone who they couldn't handle, so the next best thing, try to destroy her.
As to wanting to be president, if McC really did, he'd have gone after 0 for his ties to Wright, Ayers and all of his communist/lefty friends, not to mention his total lack of experience, and mysterious lack of record. It was his election to lose, and lose he did.
Sarah got the pick for two
October 23, 2009 - 09:50 ET by BruzillaSarah got the pick for two reasons. First, McCain was told he would not get much RNC support if he made his number one pick - Joe Lieberman. Once Lieberman was out, he tried to get Romney, Huckabee, or Palenty, but they were smart enough to see McCain was a loser and decided not to hitch their futures to his. That meant that McCain had to find someone who was qualified and, more importantly, would say "yes".
Second, his pick came after the Democrat convention, where Obama had just turned down the Hillary for VP. Remember all those interviews of women outside the convention who were ticked that Hillary wasn't picked, and who said it was time a woman had that job? All that wailing and teeth nashing about Hillary made McCain think picking a woman would get all those upset Dems to vote for him (yeah... right), so then he needed a woman who would say "yes".
Enter Sarah Palin.
Hiya Bruz~~
October 23, 2009 - 10:00 ET by BKeyserYeah, I knew that's why she was picked, but what I'm wondering is who was promoting her. There's no way McRINO knew of her beforehand, and it's not likely that anyone running that debacle of a campaign knew of her either. So my guess is someone, probably closely tied to Palin, determined that she would be good for the ticket (which she was) and sold that angle to them. Maybe they finished every sentence with "my friend" or something.
I just think there's some really smart people closely allied with Sarah and coupled with her natural political instinct, she's become a real policy-shaper, seeingly out of left field.

There was a LOT more to the
October 23, 2009 - 20:36 ET by Gary P JacksonThere was a LOT more to the Palin pick than all of this.
For one, there was an incredible "Draft Palin For VP" movement that started up really as soon as the primaries kicked off. More than a couple of eforts, in fact.
According to A B Culvahouse, the D C lawyer, and former Reagan advisor who vetted all of McCain's TWENTY-FIVE potential VP picks, Lieberman was never a real consideration. For one, there are a couple of states that wouldn't allow someone from one party to pick a running mate from a different one. So that was that.
I don't have the link, but you can google it, Culvahouse gave a speech to the Press Club, and C-Span covered it. It's interesting.
Anyhow, Culvahouse already knew Palin fairly well. He had represented Exxon-Mobil and went against her a few times.
According to his speech though, it came down to one thing with Sarah. McCain had three questions on national security. Evedently one included her take on using nuclear weapons. Culvahouse said she "knocked it out of the park!" His advice to McCain was "high risk, high reward."
From what I understand, Sarah doesn't really have much of anything in the way of staff. This is all her. I mean hell, all she needs is her computer and Facebook anyway! So far she has dominated much of the debate on ObamaCare, as well as energy, and the dollar.
I know she is close to Fred Thompson's wife Jeri (who is a founding member of Team Sarah) and Rudy. I also understand she has an open line to Dick Cheney.
Folks have to remember though, Sarah is very savvy. She was born to do this. She's a natural.
Re Staff
October 23, 2009 - 22:31 ET by slickwillie2001If Palin runs for President, staff will be her big problem. She has no machine; what Alaska Republican machine there is, is insignificant and not all on her side. She'd have to build one, while staying as far as she can from any of McCain's people. There's the TEA machine, but those are beginners and may not all be willing to glom onto Palin.
Hillary had the Clinton machine that was built over a period of twenty years, the Bamster had the Chicago thug machine, President George W. Bush had the remains of his father's machine, etc. Those things are not created in a mere few months.

Agreed, gentlemen
October 23, 2009 - 10:31 ET by BlondeSarah Palin is going to be a kingmaker this time around....remember how "hot" Hillary was in democrat circles before Obama showed up? She was the fund-raising superstar. And Sarah Palin has far more superstar power than old Hill.
It's going to be great.
And just to throw a random thought out here, I think for Sarah Palin, it's personal. Obama and his minions purposefully demeaned her during the campaign (lipstick on a pig remark was Obama being "cute"), plus what they've done to her family. I'd hate to have someone like Sarah Palin personally mad at me, but I'm glad she's going after them, big time.
Have a nice nap, cel. Sarah has things pretty well in hand.

Re Personal
October 23, 2009 - 11:04 ET by slickwillie2001Absolutely it's personal. The Bamster's thugs broke the Palin family financially, and invaded her family and turned them into daily fodder for the late-night liberal comics.
But it's also personal for the Bamster; Palin showed that the Bamster was not unique in his ability to bring in big crowds, and Palin didn't need a free rock and roll warmup concert to bring them in. For a narcissist like the Halfrican-in-Chief, a challenge like that is very personal and threatening.

Uppity Republicans
October 23, 2009 - 10:35 ET by ricklailWhen I was a kid back in the 50's and 60's I was always told that Republicans were uppity-the country club crowd. The first time I got to vote was in Nixon's second term. I voted for him but regretted it. Then I vote for Jimma because Ford was the style Republican from my youth. (I don't need to be reminded about Jimma so keep the comments to yourselves.) Then along came Ronald Reagan. I still had my misgivings about the great communicator. He fooled me. He was the greatest president of my lifetime.
What I see today in the Republican party is the same thing I saw back in the 50' and 60's uppity-country clubbers. I see folks like Palin and Hoffman and see some hope for the Republicans. With assholes like Newt, Crist and McCain there is no hope until they get off the stage and let the truly conservatives take over again. I am not a registered Republican and probalby never will be. I remain unaffiliated and will vote for conservatives that are truly conservatives. Heck I'll vote for a Libertarain before voting for a country clubber.

But...From what we have seen in these first 9 months, and what we have been discovering about him (like this piece of his thesis) little by little, it is becoming deeply alarming who this man REALLY is and what he wants to do to our country. The American people elected an imposter last fall...Obama sold himself as something and someone that he is not...A pandora's box has been opened, and it may end up being to late to close it and contain the damage.
"The problem is not that people are taxed too little...the problem is that government spends too much." ~President Ronald Reagan
if that's true
October 23, 2009 - 13:29 ET by jon_torlinThen that blows the puppet theory about him out of the water. The puppet being controlled by Soros and others only applies in the sense that they write scripts for him at various events so that he doesn't let slip how he really feels, which he's done a few times anyway (a la Joe the Plumber). No wonder he relies heavily on the teleprompter.
Of course, it's easy to see that the real him is coming out more and more these days than it was a few months ago.
This makes it all the more a dangerous situation we have in this country.

October 23, 2009 - 13:51 ET by PrairieSkymyself at one time, but no more. He just has surrounded himself with a myriad of like-minded accomplices who are only too willing to run interference for (and if necessary, take the fall for) their beloved Obamessiah. This is frightening to realize that someone like this is sitting in the White House with this much control and power in his hands. Frightening.

This is very reminscent of the interview about the Constitution "document of negative liberties" "distribution of wealth" discussion bomb that Naked Emperor News dropped before the election so I am not surprised it was believable.

Like you said, hopefully this will force "O" to release the entire paper. It's way overdue.

October 23, 2009 - 14:37 ET by Jack Bauerhey blonde -- the actual subject of his 1984 thesis was US-USSR Arms Control.
I'm convinced the reason it's under lock and key, if not burned, is because he expressed his true support for the commies and slammed Reagan.
Re lock and key
October 23, 2009 - 16:51 ET by slickwillie2001It may also be under lock and key because it is very poor quality work. That meshes well with the reason for burying his transcripts and SAT scores and everything else that might indicate his level of intelligence.

October 23, 2009 - 14:41 ET by SouthJersey1953As much as I believe he could wirte something like this, this sounds too much like a hoax. What does the supposed author, Joe Klein say? If the author of this report calls it false, then I believe him.

The level of intellectual
October 23, 2009 - 15:05 ET by KJ_sezThe level of intellectual discourse in the comments section for that piece is truly staggering. It's almost as breathtakingly cerebral as listening to two Angels and Yankees fans argue about which team is better. Almost.

Less we forget
October 23, 2009 - 16:18 ET by ricklailI did. Today marks the 26th annivessary of the bombing of the Beruit Marine Barracks. 241 Mairnes, sailors and soldiers lost their lives. Most of these men where from Camp Lejeune. Every year they hold at service there at the Beruit Memorial. If you ever get the chance stop by and see this memorial. THEY CAME IN PEACE.

October 23, 2009 - 17:15 ET by Unsane...and here I am, history geek, who was going to post the same. The terrorists have been at it LONG before 11 September 2001. Note the Marines we lost 26 years ago, as you point out.

October 23, 2009 - 17:54 ET by ricklailI was in the Army but living here so close to Cherry Point and Camp Lejuene and having two son in laws, one a Navy Corpsman serving in Iraq with the 24th and the other, a Marine, getting read to go to Afganistan Tuesday I feel strong ties to the Marines. I don't feel I have earned the honor of saying Semper Fi so I'll just repeat what it says on the statue of McAuthur at West Point, Duty, Honor, Country.
I guess those words, THEY CAME IN PEACE, on the Beruit Memorial is what makes it so hard to look at. They weren't there to wage war but to bring peace to a country that I don't think knows anything about it.

Seriously, we've been carrying on (3 adults, mind you, and my mom will turn 87 on Sunday) for two hours just cracking up over this silliness. Funny thing was, tho...until I found it on YouTube, not one of us knew who the ad was for! So it's a great ad, and a horrible one, too (unlike AFLEC....everyone knows for whom the stupid duck quacks).

People aren't sure about
October 24, 2009 - 07:04 ET by RR GOPPeople aren't sure about Palin because they want as much as they can get from the government (well, you all know that means the taxpayer and our employers), but on the other hand losing jobs and the other economic disasters brought on by the Socialists and their RINO buddies makes them realize that it is the conservatives who can turn this around.
But, again, they don't want to give up too many of their safety nets and "government programs". Actually, they need to realize these nets have holes in them and that these programs don't work, really only support the lazy and those who have taken themselves out of society because they've messed themselves up, and in the end takes away what they have managed to earn in both good and bad economic times.
