10/10 for effort. Comedy is hard. It's all in the delivery. Many of the best quotes from the serious newsbusters journalists were when they were delivered as serious journalists. Not all wanted to be followed by laughter. Some should have been followed by an "mmm". Some serious/some funny. Some of them are better as serious. That's a lot of material too. 3.5 minutes & I was ready for a break.

I'd never seen Ed Shmultz before. Is that seriously on TV?

I was hoping for a Nobel Prize for Comedy.

Well then Ken, you should be awarded the Nobel Prize for Hoping. Worked for Obama.

Nah, you don't want that;

Nah, you don't want that; it's a poisoned chalice. It would have tied your hands to always being a comedian..

I was hoping for a Nobel Prize for Comedy.

Well, we'll give you one, because you definitely deserve it.

But you still must earn it.  -from Donna Brazile

i agree

comedy is the hardest...

Yes, I

Yes, I concur.

Personnally if it was me running the show I would have just emphasized the silly comments made by the liberal loons and demphasized the MRC staff comments - perhaps cutting it down to the one that rates the best and only if they really spear the subject matter.

After all, the comments made by the loons are what is really humorous anyway....

But that is just me.

"emphasized the silly

"emphasized the silly comments made by the liberal loons"

I kind of thought that's what it was going to be. The Rush people do awesome audio montages that really illustrate when they are all following the same template. But they don't have them every week, just when it's really relevent.

Perhaps that's the way forward - this is just one part of a bigger, more general show

Ah, But . . . .

. . . . the Comedy that is MSNBC comes easily.  It's in their nature.  (Ooops!  Spelling error.  I meant to type manure.)

Good stuff. A great way to

Good stuff. A great way to start off the week. I'm sure that any shortfalls will be overcome as the "players" get more comfortable with their "roles".

Thanks for the kind words.

Thanks for the kind words. We're looking forward to honing our craft.

Is there some way you could field "off-line" comments to the proposed video-bites?

That way, we could contribute to the writing of the show without presenting the ideas in open forum.

Just a thought.

Good job all!

Looks like you had a lot of fun putting this together- looking forward to more!

We'll grant that Nobel for

We'll grant that Nobel for comedy.  You certainly deserve it, and we're sure you'll earn it in the future.  Here you go...

The production quality is very nice, but the jokes need some work. The
fake laughter made me feel uncomfortable too. Its harsh criticism, but
I'd like to see this project do well.

It's not a laugh track, we filmed it before a live studio audience. Mostly cancer patients that Ed Schultz thinks we want to see dead.

"Ed Schultz thinks we want

"Ed Schultz thinks we want to see dead"

Of course you realize fully that he thinks nothing of the sort & it's just a routine designed to polarize people, I'm sure.

It's so funny - that's how people who've never listened to Rush, think Rush is, isn't it

I dunno. I've seen more of

I dunno. I've seen more of "The Ed Show" than I care to, and it's not the tongue-in-cheek satire that Limbaugh does. I think he actually starts to believe the stuff he spews.

Of course it's nothing like

Of course it's nothing like Rush, but leftards who've never heard Rush think it's like that, I think.

Yeah, they're more effective if they start to believe their crud.

BTW, I want to see more of Jodi Miller, how can you compare to that!? http://i34.tinypic.c...

I'd really like to see you get some clips of Ed showing us how he really feels.....LOL

And I would really like to see him doing that really cool "X'd OUT!!" thing he does.

Good stuff, but I think it's a little lengthy.

Speaking of Quotes...

Here's something a friend sent me:

Life Imitates 'The Simpsons'

•  Sideshow Bob: "Convicted of a crime I didn't even commit. Hah! Attempted murder? Now honestly, what is that? Do they give a Nobel prize for attempted chemistry?"--dialogue from "Sideshow Bob Roberts," aired Oct. 9, 1994

• "Rather than recognizing concrete achievement, the 2009 [Nobel Peace] prize appeared intended to support initiatives that have yet to bear fruit."--Associated Press, Oct. 9, 2009

Kudos!

A brave and noble effort. I couldn't deliver those lines unless I'd had a beverage or two first.

Keep at it guys, it will shine with time.

Good stuff.  Nice effort.

Good stuff.  Nice effort.  I laughed at several spots, and sneered at the bizzarre nature of the pro-lib media.  Mission accomplished.

9/10 for me...

Really enjoyed the comic takes on the quotes... A few quick suggestions...

1) In the textual description of the latest video, put the full quotes that are being examined/ridiculed and who said them.

2) cut the "out takes" part entirely...  The humorous take on the selected quotes is good, the outtakes are overkill (at least for me)..

3) Place these on Youtube too..

That's about it... overall I scored your efforts 9/10...  Thanks for all the effort and humor it's appreciated and enjoyed!

The only thing I would change

The only thing I would ask you to change is the music. It is kind of grating.

But, I loved the comments and got some good laughs.

And, it might be nice to include an email comment of the week too.  There are some really good commentators on the newsbusters site.

Looking forward to more

Nice to see a voice behind all the great reports here. Look forward to more

The behind the scene stuff was a little much if that was to be in every show. A little long for some.

Great all around

Notable comedy

I didn't care for it much,

I didn't care for it much, in all honesty.  It seemed to me to be a "sink to their level" comeback.

I believe those who tend to remain above the fray have more credibility with those outside of the set circle.

This is a good

This is a good concept.

But I'm sorry, I couldn't finish watching the whole thing.

Too long? What's an ideal

Too long?

What's an ideal length? Three to four minutes?

Ken, It wasn't the

Ken,

It wasn't the time.   The "funny" started strong, and went downhill.  Part content, part delivery.

It's hard to come up with that many one liners for 7 minutes worth of show.  I know even the great Bob Hope had a dozen(?) writers to help him come up with his material.

-FS

I think yours is a good

I think yours is a good summation, FS.  I wanted to love this and forward it to everyone on my list.  But it just didn't hit the mark.  I have no skills in this area, (media/entertainment), to offer legitimate suggestions, but I'll still second your comment.

This is a rich target, but this effort missed the mark.  I guess the best way I can sum up my disappointment is to say, (again), that I would've liked to have sent this to my wife or other left leaning friends that I have in order to help open their eyes.

I don't think that it would work, though, as it presupposes a level of knowledge/engagement that the target audience probably does not have.  In saying this, I'm presuming that the target audience is libs that are in denial.

As FS said, the concept is good, keep working at it, it's a worthwhile endeavor.

Not bad

I liked it, was a nice few minutes of entertainment, truth being stranger than fiction and all that.

Just one audio suggestion, try not to use background music that's got a snap-sounding beat, that one segment in the first minute's background music that had it was a bit distracting, but that's just me.  People with hearing problems might have a hard time focusing on the speech.  Just a suggestion!

Your Comedy Really Stinks

Please guys stick with reporting bias in the media and don't quit your day jobs. I didn't laugh or even chuckle at one joke. You guys thought you were YMZ. Nothing worst than watching people who think their funny and fake laughter in the background.

Good Concept

Stick with foolish clips, lose the canned laughter. We can figure out how stooopid the quotes are all by ourselves.

Constructive Criticism

First off, ditch the laugh tracks.

Second, it seems scripted. Get some more ad-lib, off the top of the head responses.

This is kinda like VH-1's "I Love The 80's". Howsabout "I Love the Liberals"?

There's no laugh track. It's

There's no laugh track. It's the reaction laughter from other staffer watching the taping in the MRC studio.

Please guys, don't get mad

Please guys, don't get mad at me for what I'm about to say... you need better writers and the delivery needs some work. Thought provoking? Yes. Funny? No. But have no fear, I know how to fix the problem... All of you get together about an hour early and tap a keg of beer. You should be loose as a Goose by the time the cameras get rolling. One more hint, wear funny t-shirts instead of button down business type shirts.

Will USA Choose Freedom?

The funny T-shirts might

The funny T-shirts might work, but getting sloshed prior to taping not so much.

Thanks for watching. We're amateur comedians so I'm sure we'll get better as we get more of these shows under our belt.

Ken

I was kind of thinking about the wardrobe thing, too.

Maybe mix it up (from week to week?).  Someone go ultra button-down conservative....to the real dressed down look.  Also, think about your hair cuts, guys.

I know you just put this together, but the Olympics is old news...keep it really up to date.

Also, focus on the BIG media talking heads.

And please, don't forget to include Brent Bozell, laughing (clips from F&F would do)!  He has one of the best laughs in the business, (I'm thinking of his mockery of J. Garofolo last week)....the leftists hate being laughed at.

Also, I liked the suggestion to perhaps take some of the more pointed comments here, and read them (with the comment printed in the background).  We have so many media bias stories, and so many spot on comments in the threads, not to mention certain *ahem* jokers.

Just my $.02.

A good first effort...I'm sure you'll get into the groove.  All the best.

I hope he fails, too.

The turn-around time is an

The turn-around time is an issue. It's a biweekly program for now but who knows, in the future as we get more accustomed to this, it may be a weekly feature. That's an editorial decision that is out of my hands, but we'll see how things roll.

The new comedy clip(s) need some work.

Maybe you could get Dennis Miller to do his legendary thing?

first of many?

This is the first episode, right?  Makes it a pilot, which means you show it to some people, look at their responses, make a few tweaks as you see fit and try again and hope like hell that the audience likes it.  If not, try again!

You guys got a lot of responses that were pretty constructive, heck, if you'd shown this on Kos or Huff, the typical response would have been "you suck!" or worse.  Shows what kind of people you have here, wouldn't you agree?

That's something anyway.

-Jon

Oh Yeah

I forgot.

Need Noel.   Because I know he can be seriously sarcastic.

I know that would present some cross-country issues, but I think it's worth doing.

I hope he fails, too.

Painful.

That was painful to watch. All those "clip-based-shows" like the Soup are just as painful to watch.

There's nothing funny about people reacting to a clip and telling stale jokes. Those Web-Soup shows shouldn't be on television. Along with Sports Soup Talk Soup and all the other ones.

Andy Rooney, is that

Andy Rooney, is that you?

It's not everyone cup of soup, true, but the format suits the purpose of the NQ Show.

The concept is great.  The

The concept is great.  The execution,.... well.

Here's 2 cents worth. Have some guest commentators that are conservative critics who've perhaps had some face time and are more comfortable in front of the camera. Could even be old school conservatives that have been out of the limelight that could use a little dusting off.

Sounds kinda like TMZ

It's kinda distracting when the commentators are looking off camera.  Who are they talking too?   The laughter off-screen reminds me of TMZ's late night TVshow. (All of the staff just sits around the actual office and give funny comments.)

The jokes are kinda funny.  If they are too long,  they seem to bomb.   The delivery needs to be better.  (A few times it sounded like  they are reading from cue cards, almost like Ben Stein (who is dead to me, btw).)

The big guy with the hair sounds like he is doing an impression, not using his actual voice.   There is only room in this world for one Paul Vogt (from MAD TV).   Be yourself.

Newsbusted is light years ahead in humor.  This show has potential though.

Notable Quotables

I just told all of my facebook friends about you.

Please don't let them see Notable Quotables.

Very lame.  Sorry

Doktor Ebert

I laughed, I cried, It was a very good first attempt.  Don't ever stop using the out-takes at the end.  That's some very funny stuff right there.  You'll get your rhythm soon enough. Performing is a lot different from writing.

All in all it was very funny.

If Saul Alinsky owned a news channel it would be MSNBC.  ----  Me

JMHO, you understand.

Try a more "behind the music" style

I thought Newbusted was lame at first, but now it's one of my favorite video series. This also could really go somehwhere.

I would angle this more as a documentary with quick funny commentary from knowledgable celebrities. Maybe you could eventually get one-liners from media personalities. Cut the laughter and narrow the comments. Background music and more imagery would be nice. The outtakes at the end are excellent.

The title Notable Quotes isn't very catchy.
