Re: the census worker in Kentucky
September 27, 2009 - 10:11 ET by Prester JohnRelatives much closer to this area than the MSM and Leftist bloggers in New York have told me that the census worker happened to be in an area with several large marijuana fields.
This means of course that if he was in fact murdered it could easily have been at the hand of a bunch of low life drug growers who thought he was a DEA type.
But don't look for the MSM to investigate that possibility.

Bamster's Smile
September 27, 2009 - 10:23 ET by slickwillie2001Interesting video making the rounds:
Barack Obama's Amazingly Consistent Smile: http://vimeo.com/6747788
Someone took a few dozen group still pictures of the Bamster, recentered the frame on his face, and strung them all together into a video. Good technical work. More than his smile though, it's the position of his head and body, -everything.
We know he has worked hard to hide his angry black man identity; in one of his books he talks about the rage that he feels within. This tells me he has likely been coached on his presentation, maybe by the same Hollywood types that reworked Hillary and helped her find a smile.
As the national media
September 27, 2009 - 10:39 ET by celatorAs the national media continues its determined journalistic malpractice, you have to wonder what it's using as a model . WAPO, NYT's el al seem to be using the North Korean press as a guide in their "reporting" of Obama news.
Here's an example from Sept 25. Just substitute Obama's name for Kim Jong's, and the story could be on the front page of the WAPO etc. It's a pretty funny read. Here's the opener:
"Pyongyang, September 25 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il's work
"Let Us March Forward Dynamically along the Road of Socialism and
Communism under the Unfurled Banner of the Anti-Imperialist Struggle"
serves as a highly important document as it clarifies theoretical and
practical issues of weighty importance in accomplishing the cause of
independence against imperialism and the cause of socialism in the
present era."

No citizen's right to life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, or property is safe as long as Obama is President of the United States.
MALWARE ALERT!!!!!!!!!!
September 27, 2009 - 10:45 ET by R D HelmI just got hit again on this thread.

I've already e-mailed Matt on this. Pain in the butt, isn't it? Is this something embedded itself in our computers, or is it just at NB? ns
Noel,
September 27, 2009 - 11:00 ET by R D HelmYeah, it definitely causes you to wake up and pay attention. It hasn't locked me up or anything.
Not 100% sure if its leaving anything behind, but I ran about every scan you can think of yesterday after I got hit, and nothing was detected on my HD.
If it is leaving anything behind, it's pretty stealthy, and may be something new. My guess is its lurking in one of the ads.
I've been here 4 years and all I have ever experienced is that, once in a while, my privacy software lights up, but that didn't start happening until the animated ads came along.
Not sure if the two are related.

September 27, 2009 - 15:53 ET by JerI got infected earlier in the week after clicking on a link Cool Arrow had [innocently] referenced in a post. It ran a sham scan revealing that my computer had been [supposedly] invaded by several trojan horses designed to steal passwords, etc. but could be cleaned up by purchasing "Anti-Virus Pro" for $49.95. I knew it was a scam, but it still required about 3 hrs. with Microsoft tech support over two days to get the malware completely eradicated. In the meantime, I couldn't even open my home page [attempting to do so would send me to a porn site]. These slease-balls should be thrown under a jail.

LOL-Yeah, and they should pour the floor in on top of 'em, too, and leave a hole just large enough to push bread and water through.
I got hit about four years ago with a really nasty virus. It ran all night and basically wrecked my HD because I didn't know it was on there, and the thing chewed up just about everything, including my Anna Kournikova collection. Bastards.
Most mornings now, I set a restore point before I even open Firefox, or any other browser (I got completely rid of IE because it is nothing but a virus sponge and use Opera as a backup to FF) just in case I get hit again.
That way, I can revert the machine back to the state it was in the morning prior to the hit and not lose much, if any, info.
I also have it set to go into hibernation when I press the power button, so I hit it if I am going to be away for more than a half hour, and I put it in hibernation every night.

Actually you should
September 27, 2009 - 17:44 ET by Dan The Man 2Actually you should periodically purge your HD and its contents after carefully backing it up. Wiping the HD and reinstalling programs is a pain in the rear but is very helpful in removing any lingering malware or viruses. This instance of a malignant virus is a good chnace to do so.
Also keep your virus checkers and such current, make daily trips to their website to update. One thing to consider is stop using the "free" virus checkers and consider buying a subscription.

Blonde:I use IE6.x
September 27, 2009 - 15:06 ET by stratmanBlonde:
I use IE6.x (still clinging to my guns and religion) and the latest version of Firefox Portable (for specific sites). I have not seen the pop-up, even placing my cursor over every ad and icon on the page.
One reason I may not see it is I am using a free application called B.I.S.S. Hosts Manager (download here) which loads a blacklist of IP addresses. Blacklisted IP addresses are not allowed to connect/download to your harddrive (internet cache) and therefore are never seen on the monitor or infect your harddrive. The application is updated (irregularly) and is customizable. A couple of the redirector sites, like "tinyurl", are blocked out, but, there are always workarounds such as removing that site from the blacklist. It really is quite easy to install, update and modify (though you probably won't need to).
A second thing that helps protect my web browsing is turning off or restricting both "Cookies" and blocking "Ads/Pop-ups". Many, many applications exist for these purposes, starting with your internet security application and/or web browser options/add-ons. Others here can recommend what to use for Vista. (I'm still clinging to my guns, religion, and Windows XP)
A third extremely useful and free application I have started using on occasion is called Sandboxie. I just used it to check out the link which showed the pop-up you and others have been getting. Sandboxie can be used to run most any application and acts as an invisible layer between the application and the harddrive. For instance, you can run your web browser via Sandboxie - browsing will work as usual. You will notice two "#" flanking the title of the app at the top of the screen - that's it while browsing. What ever happens while using the web browser is completely eliminated when you close the web browser (unless you purposefully want to save something) and nothing gets saved or makes changes to your harddrive - at least that's the theory. It's like a table cloth catching the crumbs, leaving the table clean when the table cloth is removed. I highly recommend Sandboxie to those who find themselves in an infection jackpot all too often or have other people using their computer who might not be as cautious as the owner. There is a simple walk-through once Sandboxie is installed to get you started (you'll need to be online to do the tutorial).
A fourth consideration for you is to dump IE8. It is riddled with weaknesses to attacks and certain functions and has been outclassed performance- and security-wise by the new Firefox and Google Chrome. If you want to stick with IE then revert back to IE7 if possible. From what I've read, Microsoft really outclassed themselves with this merde which remains unpatched on some security issues.
I looked at the link provided in yesterday's Open Thread that triggers the pop-up. Google quickly identified this crap. About two weeks ago I helped someone who had been infected by a similar phoney antiviral app. It seems that there are many variations on this theme and may be from the same people (eastern european, ie old soviet union types). This particular tricky hijacker I worked on would not allow you to go to antiviral websites, like Symmantec and many others, nor would it allow one to search for information about it. It hijacked a number of functions, including the Hosts file. This is a good reason to lock one's Hosts file - no infection can then change it... hopefully. (B.I.S.S. Hosts Manager can lock the Hosts file so no unauthorized changes can be made)
There are many ways and applications to help keep you safer on the internet. You just need to find something(s) that you are comfortable using. Still, the biggest deterrent to infection is self-awareness - don't click that link that pop-ups and has nothing to do with what you want, looks a little too juicy, or a little too good to be true. The blackhat viral/trojan/worm/etc writers are using "human engineering" to defeat what would otherwise be common sense.
Hope this helps!
Thanks, strat

Blonde: I've not used
September 27, 2009 - 16:12 ET by stratmanBlonde:
I've not used this, but, consider different log-on's at boot. Most people have Windows set up so that they are the Administrator. Windows allows, and encourages, users to set up daughter accounts so that each user can have Windows customized to their liking.
For instance, you like certain options turned off/on, do not want your favorites "contaminated" by someone else's, and only want your icons on the desktop. Windows allows for separate user accounts to facillitate these customizations.

Hope that helps.
Timmy is supposed to be released from the hospital this morning, I'm waiting for Urby at noon. Watching the re-run this a.m., Brantley actually looks not too shabby, I think he'll probably have to start against LSU in two weeks, or at least rotate w/Timmy, a la Chris Leak. That was a brutal whiplash Tim took, the hit was a good one, but without that knee in the back of his helmet, Tim would have popped up and told the KY guy "good hit". I also will predict that the coaches will henceforth and forever more tell him not to lead with his head when he's bowling people over.
I hope he fails, too.
Morning J (or afternoon now I guess)
September 27, 2009 - 11:10 ET by BKeyserI saw that hit too. Nasty. The concussion aspect is worrisome. I don't follow NCAAFB like you follow your Gators, so I was wondering what the scouts are projecting for him in the NFL? Are they thinking he can play QB or has he run so much that they're either not sure, or projecting him as something other than a 1st rounder? Sorry if these seems like a silly question... I'm an NFL guy.
Bob
September 27, 2009 - 11:34 ET by BlondeNot silly at all....and remember, YOU got me started.
Would you believe....All of the Above?
As part of Timmy returning for his senior year (and to a lessor extent to prepare John Brantley for 2010), the Gators brought in an NFL quarterback coach, Scott Loeffler to prepare Tebow for the NFL (he takes almost every snap at shotgun).
Now, my own personal opinion. I don't think Tebow will be interested in playing any position other than quarterback. I think he'll probably go in the second round as a QB, rumor has it Jacksonville is really interested in their home-town boy. He's such a dynamic personality (although who knows how much of that is Urban, truly, he's such a maven of the "team", prima donnas not welcome) that his leadership ability alone (I refer you to THE SPEECH after the Old Miss loss last year) would be worth it in and of itself, even if he played the bench. Think about THAT...any NFL prima donna would be taken down a peg or three with Tebow razzing them to play for the TEAM and not themselves.
And who knows, he has really changed the position of QB in college ball (there have been running QB's like Vick, but none like Tebow). Who's to say he won't do the same thing in the NFL?
Regardless...football won't be his only career, and as much as I shall miss him over center at UF next fall, it will be a pleasure to be his fan for life, I know he'll do great things no matter what direction he takes.
Oh, and a Gator saying...."Superman wears Tim Tebow shorts". :)
Aren't you glad you asked?
I hope he fails, too.

September 27, 2009 - 11:17 ET by R D Helm...I just killed Firefox both times, and it appears nothing is amiss.

LOL-I think somebody is screwing with us. Bet we all start seeing pop-ups of Dear Leader soon.

September 27, 2009 - 11:39 ET by BlondeJust moving your mouse over a certain ad is enough to trigger it. That's why I said watch your mouse movements carefully, to see if you can figure out which ad is triggering it.
The same thing happened over on the Gator boards a couple of weeks ago, and it was embedded in their ads...I'd imagine the same thing has happened here, not on the NB servers per se, but in one of the ad subscriptions. Hard to pinpoint as the ads rotate on and on and on and on....

Impeach
September 27, 2009 - 12:33 ET by GothampcFirst of all, what is your definition of impeach? Technically, I think that impeachment means to bring POTUS before Congress for censure. Clinton was impeached, Nixon was not (he resigned before his impeachment). It doesn't necessarily mean to throw the POTUS out of office.
The short version of impeachment:
The House Judiciary Committee decides whether or not to proceed with impeachment. They send a Resolution to the House and the House votes on each article of impeachment. The House needs a simple vote to impeach.
Then a trial begins which involves a lengthy process in the Senate. After the trial, the Senate votes using a 2/3 majority vote.

Heraldo Rivera vs Bill O'Reily
September 27, 2009 - 13:03 ET by Kingfish17Did anyone catch the discussion that Heraldo Rivera and Bill O'Reily had on BOR's show on Friday night? It was about ACORN. The snipet that I happened to hear was about how Congress is supposedly going to stop sending tax-payer dollars to ACORN. One of Heraldo's points was, that it is unconstitutional for congress to stop funding ACORN!, because ACORN has not been given due process with regards to the charges relating to the tapes exposing ACORN's illegal tax advice.
But what does BOR do when Heraldo makes the brilliant legal argument that it's unconstitutional to stop funding ACORN? BOR just lets the comment slide on by, totally unchallenged.

I can just see it now: "Rush blah, blah, blah, Fox News blah, blah, blah."
90% of the media is in the tank for Obama and Clinton says there's a vast right-wing conspiracy?

He puts forth a very shallow argument.
It was nice how the AP punked him with a quick fact check in the middle, but they spun it up immediately afterward.

My political wrap up for the week...
September 27, 2009 - 16:42 ET by traderjamesWelcome to traderjames' News Sunday, where I discuss what I saw, what I heard, and what I think !
1. I follow the Rasmussen Daily Presidential Tracking Poll, which subtracts 'strongly disapprove' from 'strongly approve' (link below) . Negative number means more disapprove. There is an interesting trend for this week:
Monday: -8
Tuesday: -8
Wednesday: -6
Thursday: -5
Friday: -7
Saturday: -9
Today: -10
These numbers lead me to the following observations:
A. "Full Ginsburg" Sunday-talk-show-media-blitz: FAILED
B. Letterman appearance: FAILED or, in mathematical terms, (A + B) = nada
C. United Nation/ 'G20' speeches: FAILURES
Overall, week started out bad, improved a little, then got progressively worse. One could conclude, the more time on TV, the worse the poll numbers.
2. Check this link from Howard Fineman, of all people, sort of along the same lines as above, titled, The Limits of Charisma:
http://www.newsweek.com/id/216210
Well, that's it for this week...have a great one and a safe one !

Re ACORN funding
September 27, 2009 - 17:44 ET by slickwillie2001Re funding for ACORN; the objection to de-funding them based on the constitution re the 'bill of attainder' notion, is a weak excuse. If we need to we can broaden the ban on funding to include all 'community organizations'. It's quite possible that all organizations eligible for funding are subsidiaries of ACORN anyway. Democratics will whine that there is no definition of a community organization then...
These present amendments to bills btw are not broad bans, but I believe only bans against ACORN funding in those bills to which the amendments are offered. We really need a bill just for the purpose of defunding ACORN, but the democratics would block that in a minute.
ACORN is also very likely still receiving funding from the $787B stimulus bill. The original House Obamacare bill also offered subsidies to 'community organization' employees for purchasing healthcare insurance. Recall also that Barney Frank proposed a few months ago that when TARP money is recovered (repaid) by the federal government, that some of that money should go to ACORN. Don't know what the conclusion was in that case.
If you look through anything Congress has done in the last ten years or so, even Defense bills, there are probably trinkets for ACORN spread here and there. They also get big bucks from state government and private companies through extortion. Their sources of funding are just as difficult to map out as their subsidiaries are, and for the same reasons.

September 27, 2009 - 20:16 ET by dlitwinSupport Ron Paul's audit of the Fed (HR1207). Completely ignored by most media, yet has 300 co-sponsors in the House.
Is the dollar a FRAUD?
I wrote a song to make this very point. To entertain, while skewering the Fed. Hope no one minds me posting it here.

It is an under-discussed topic.

Dan, anything Ron Paul
September 27, 2009 - 21:30 ET by Dan The Man 2Dan, anything Ron Paul suggest should be very suspect. Paul is a loon of the first magnitude.
300 co-sponsors
September 28, 2009 - 01:16 ET by dlitwinWhy do you suppose this loon has such support?
Yes why do congressional
September 28, 2009 - 09:43 ET by Dan The Man 2Yes why do congressional bills garner support from other congress critters? In most cases it is like most business in the bowels of congress hell and that is simply quid pro quo; you scratch my back I’ll scratch yours. This bill seems to transfer some of the power over the FED from Comptroller General to the congress.
A summary of the bill. Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009 - Repeals the authority of the Comptroller General to carry out an onsite examination of an open insured bank or bank holding company only if the appropriate federal regulatory agency has consented in writing. (Retains the authority of the Comptroller General to audit a federal agency.) Directs the Comptroller General to complete, before the end of 2010, an audit of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and of the federal reserve banks, followed by a detailed report to Congress
It seems innocuous on the face of it but ya never know. And Paul is a loon as he wants us as Duh One does to go back to pre WWII era foreign policies. Paul if he had been there would have gleefully signed the treaty of 1938 with Germany. Paul has a few good ideas, sort of like a broken clock is right 2 times a day, but the problem is he has too many deal breakers – the major one is he is a weenie when it comes to military might and the use of.
Keep track of the bill and I bet you it will not get out of committee as most of Ron Paul’s bills don’t. I used to live in the Houston area and know this clown; in fact I used to like him in my more liberal years.
America's founders, America Haters?
September 28, 2009 - 10:17 ET by dlitwinWell, maybe Ron Paul is a "weenie", as you say.
Or, maybe he's just a student of those of America's founders who warned against entangling alliances.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_non-interventionism
You know, Washington, Jefferson, Thomas Paine, John Adams, etc.
Those "weenies" would point at a half-century of unrestrained U.S. interventionism and the current terrorism against the U.S. and say "We told you so."
Go ahead, call Washington, Jefferson, Paine and Adams "America haters".
Go ahead, call Washington,
September 28, 2009 - 11:38 ET by Dan The Man 2Go ahead, call Washington, Jefferson, Paine and Adams "America haters
Let’s see you mean the same Thomas Jefferson who without congress approval went halfway across the world to war with Barbary in 1801. Seems he was there for 3 years without congress funding it. Made a treaty with a foreign country. Seems Washington made some treaties also. Thomas Paine was never President so we don’t want to speculate what he would have done. John Adams was and he was a manifest Destiny guy through and through made some dozy of treaties. Basically all of those “manifest destiny” Presidents were forced to make treaties with other countries that were as you put them “entanglements”.
But what defines Paul as a loon is not recognizing the modern day realities and the position of President in the world. You can cat call all you want as a congress critter but in a President you need to understand the compromises you must make and where the line is drawn. With Duh One we got a real loser.
About your beloved reactionary...
September 27, 2009 - 21:41 ET by UnsaneRon Paul is extremely upset that the United States isn't a very whiny excuse of a nation. Not to mention his reactionary, obsessive devotion to the dollar.
Well, now that I think on it, he is basically a reactionary when it comes to...everything.
I wish he would stop embarrassing my state and frigging retire already.

Pesky stuff, there, yes.
September 28, 2009 - 01:26 ET by dlitwinOh, yes. And Paul's pig-headed devotion to notions like public information, and those pesky limits expressed in the Constitution, such as the 10th amendment.
Thanks for making sure I didn't get caught up in any of his propaganda.
Help me out some more, OK?
September 28, 2009 - 01:34 ET by dlitwinI'm kinda new around here, and have been enjoying a site dedicated to busting the MSM.
Since this is a site dedicated to busting biased reporting, please someone tell me the fact that Ron Paul's Audit the Fed bill now has 300 co-sponsors has been not gone unreported here of all places?
It's been ignored almost entirely by the biased MSM. Doesn't that make it great news to bust?
Did you not hear that the House held hearings on this bill in the last few days?

New Photoshop
September 27, 2009 - 21:42 ET by BKeyserI've started a new set on my Flickr site; some of you have visited after I've posted my annoying links practically prodding you to up my view count (lol). Anyway, I was thinking about all of the "artwork" that must've been underway after the recent push by the NEA and some inside Valerie Jarrett's House of Deviants, but potentially not finished or showing up on yard sale tables all across lib-land. I'm hoping to add to this set as I come up with some new ideas, but my first is a sketch, unfinished but framed and for sale, of the president in his fantasyland dreaming of a nuclear-free world. Enjoy, and feel free to look around at other sets if you're really, really bored.

September 28, 2009 - 09:04 ET by Radical1979So Roman Polanski has been arrested by the Swiss. France and Poland want him granted clemency and a pardon. Well, we've screwed over Poland so I give them a pass, and who cares what France thinks. But, I'm just waiting to see what Obama does. I don't think he can afford to pardon an admitted child rapist, even though it fits in with liberal idealogy.
Polanski
September 28, 2009 - 09:12 ET by QueenMumObama has no business sticking his nose into this one. His best option is to just let justice prevail. Wonder if anyone will be asking Obama for his opinion. It's just too bad that Polanski got to enjoy the good life all this time when he should have been rotting in prison. But then, he's an "artiste" doncha know. The media elite don't hold his sort responsible for their actions.
