For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Dangerous censorship from the left!
As Barack Obama’s poll numbers collapse along with support for his initiatives, the left in our country has continued to shamefully refer to any American that doesn’t agree with the president as racist...On the flipside, as the left rebuke all rebukes, their minions in the media refuse to cover anything that might reflect negatively on the president...In the end, if the left has its way, and all criticism of Obama is boycotted, forbidden, or categorized as racist, America will have indeed become exactly what the Tea Party attendees and town hall protesters have been cautioning: a socialist nation with a totalitarian dictator whose policies can’t be questioned in public.

September 19, 2009 - 12:13 ET by ThisnThatIf anyone wants to know how to be polite and tolerant when black people are nominated and placed into top Government positions, all we have to do is to follow the left's lead, don't we? Since they are the ones full of roses and wine. And the top examples are how the left has treated Clarence Thomas and Condoleezza Rice. Sly Sylvester called Rice "Aunt Jemima," saying he did it to indicate her subservient role in the Bush administration. Cartoonists Jeff Danzinger, Pat Oliphant, Garry Trudeau, the Post and the Times used racial stereotypes to depict Rice. And who can forget the Anita Hill idiots curing Thomas' confirmation hearings, and the constant denigrating remarks about him every since? Yeah, the left really knows how to avoid racist remarks and attitudes. \sarc.

Carter?
September 19, 2009 - 09:46 ET by slickwillie2001I can't believe the Bamster is too happy about the buffoon Carter showing up to defend him. Carter's presence reminds voters of how bad a democratic President can be, and invites comparisons between himself and the Bamster. One of the Bamster's biggest problems, –Iran, is entirely the legacy of the odious Carter. He also brought us a period of out-of-control inflation, which many have predicted for us if the economy recovers.
Carter also has a history as a segregrationist that is conveniently hidden. Carter is little more qualified to lecture conservatives on race than Robert Byrd is.

September 19, 2009 - 10:02 ET by heldmyw...and you may as well add the attempts to resurrect the "Fairness Doctrine" as a tool of censorship.
On the other hand, traditional media is in a death spiral, new media is booming and alive with brisk and wonderful reporting, opinion, and argument, and my favorite form of political punditry, the cartoon, is in a glorious renaissance.
(Have you ever noticed that Obama has never been portrayed as anything but a big-eared dweeb?)
Obama and his brown-nose media chums are far too inept, transparent and lame to hold the line and make this laughable attempt at Socialist doublespeak work. The American public is not as uninformed and gullible as they need us to be.
I only hope that the next President take a good, hard look at the press and severely alters the occupancy list for the White House Press Corps. The list of those who do not belong should begin with the New York Times, NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC...
Arrogant ignorance will reap its rewards
September 19, 2009 - 10:02 ET by needleThe liberal media’s long term project of silencing Middle America began decades ago. It has now come to the point that liberals like Janeane Garofalo, Jimmy Carter, and Keith Olbermann are not only ignorant of what Middle America thinks but are incapable of imagining what Middle America thinks. These arrogant liberals, on account of positions that they either have or had, posture as if they are spokespersons for America. They are about as divorced from reality as Marie Antoinette. I suspect that they, like Marie, pretty soon (say, somewhere between 2010 and 2012) will get the “point.”

We'll see how it all comes out. Harry Reid is about to get a lesson in anger over his 'this war is lost' and his dismissal of the people's rights to petition their government for redress of grievances.

If the Fringe Media are intentionally filtering and distorting the news to support Obama's claims that people opposed to his view are fringe lunatics then we have the right to deny viewership.
Don't watch CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS. With deflated viewership they lose ad dollar revenue and become irrelevant.
If this administration wishes to start to do what Hugo Chavez has been doing by trying to control the media then we need to blunt that by not watching Obama tomorrow. Race will not work anymore
September 19, 2009 - 10:27 ET by 10ksnookerI don't think Obama is driven by race with everything he does, most, but surly not everything.
Nor do I think Jimmy Carter's segregationist past affects everything that he does and says.

Begs a question
September 19, 2009 - 10:28 ET by legacyrepublicanThe left's paranoid behavior begs the question of how far are we away from our own version of the "Treason Felony Act of 1848" enacted in the U.K. to protect the crown ( still in effect BTW ).
In our case, such a law anyone who is declared a racist and therefore hateful could be charged with treason and sent off to jail.
Can anyone guess why they want "hate" crimes so badly. Just another way to squash all dissent of Obama in the future.
During the great Irish famines, John Mitchel was sent into exile for 14 years for writing stuff like "The Almighty, indeed, sent the potato blight, but the English created the Famine."
How convient that they had recently passed a treason law ( hate speech against the crown ) that allowed him to be sent off.
All for accusing the British of murdering the Irish.

"Why do we need an International Talk Like a Pirate Day?
Make no mistake. We do. But it's a little hard to articulate why, especially when you've made the mistake of referring to your wife as a scurvy bilge rat and tried to order her back into the galley.
Talking like a pirate is fun. It's really that simple.
It gives your conversation a swagger, an elán, denied to landlocked lubbers. The best explanation came from a guy at a Cleveland radio station who interviewed us on the 2002 Talk Like a Pirate Day. He told us we were going to be buried by people asking for interviews because it was a "whimsical alternative" to all the serious things that were making the news so depressing.
In other words, silliness is the holiday's best selling point.
Before we go any further, there's something we need to be clear about. Pirates were and are bad people. Really reprehensible. Even the most casual exploration of the history of pirates (and believe us, casual is an accurate description of our research) leaves you hip deep in blood and barbarity. We recognize this, all right? We aren't for one minute suggesting that real, honest-to-God pirates were in any way, shape or form worth emulating.
So what is it exactly that we're celebrating here, if not pirates? What, you're wondering, is the point?
We're going to be painfully honest here, perhaps fatally so.
The point is, there is no point."

Ok, not really, but it's harder to have a gun in a big city than it is in smaller ones, at least legally speaking what with all the gun control.
At least in Texas (and some other states) there's the concealed weapons act that we have, but I'm sure in the more liberal cities and states (Maryland comes to mind as well as Massachusetts) the chances of finding a citizen with a legal gun don't appear to be that high.

September 19, 2009 - 22:33 ET by cajun2I read the letter to the Pres from the ex CIA directors. Very interesting that guys who know ALL of this countries secrets would be willing to speak out. They know something this man has not figured out. Irresponsible and un informed decisions have serious consequences. They are demers and rep. from several different administrations. The fact that they all agree tells you the seriousness of Obama's error.
Oh, wait......they are all white. Never mind.
Racism or Not
September 20, 2009 - 03:54 ET by ChattychitoI read this morning that Obama says the issues of the Tea party anger are not Racist but that there is to much Govt control. then I read that he will be addressing the media (all but Fox) and he will show that racism is much the factor of the right.
another hypocritical statement that show he is a liar in Chief. Joe Wilson had it right.

control the Press
September 20, 2009 - 04:05 ET by Chattychitotoday it is the Maimed Stream Media but never the less the same thing that Lenin said control the press let them feel that they are something special. Then when the time is right you remove them (in Russia they were gathered together and shot in a mass graves or assassinated) and replace them with pure State run media personnel.
Now we know what ABC, NBC, CNN, CBS, et al, have coming for them. They better wake up soon or they will wake up in front of their maker.
