Internet companies and civil liberties groups were alarmed
this spring when a U.S. Senate bill proposed handing the White House
the power to disconnect private-sector computers from the Internet.
They’re not much happier about a revised version that aides to Sen.
Jay Rockefeller, a West Virginia Democrat, have spent months drafting
behind closed doors. CNET News has obtained a copy of the 55-page draft
(excerpt), which still appears to permit the president to seize
temporary control of private-sector networks during a so-called
cybersecurity emergency.
The new version would allow the president to “declare a cybersecurity
emergency” relating to “non-governmental” computer networks and do
what’s necessary to respond to the threat.
Other sections of the proposal include a federal certification program
for “cybersecurity professionals,” and a requirement that certain
computer systems and networks in the private sector.

The German people didn't "give" Hitler absolute power, he create absolute power by the Enabling Act of 1933 after he was elected. He grabbed power, like Obama is now. They (like us) should have known better than to elect a dictator, and they paid a horrendous price for their mistake.
As the Reichstag prepared to vote in March 1933 for or against the Enabling Act, Storm Troopers gathered around the Kroll Opera House (where they were meeting) and yelled the following: Imagine ACORN doing this:

I'd look for Obama's ratings to drop to the low 40's or so, with citizens up in arms about what is happening to our country etc. Then watch out. That's when Obama will be the most dangerous.

Dragon...I came to the study of history very late in my life. I'm almost 70 now, and I wish I had started when I was much younger. The subject isn't taught well in public schools so it's up to us to really dig in and see what has happened in the past.
I think a good working knowledge of history is one of the best antidotes to the drivel and lies the Old Media spews out on a daily basis.

We recently purchased a new vehicle. (But not under the CARS program.) Here in Ohio, if you buy a new car you pay tax on the price minus the value of a trade-in. If you buy used, you pay tax on the purchase price of the car - before trade-in. So I'd want to know more about how the government rebate is treated in each state, since you are technically trading in an old car. I have to admit skepticism about the rebate being treated as income, since an automaker's or dealer's rebate is not usually treated as such. Calling it a tax on the $4,500 or whatever is not really accurate, IMO. The tax is on the price of the vehicle.

I think Palin's "death panel" remark was a brilliant metaphor...and managed to change the tenor of the health care debate in a very significant way.

CRS: "Under H.R. 3200, a 'Health Insurance Exchange' would begin operation in 2013 and would offer private plans alongside a public option...H.R. 3200 does not contain any restrictions on noncitzens-whether legally or illegally present, or in the United States temporarily or permanently-participating in the Exchange."
CRS also notes that the bill has no provision for requiring those seeking coverage or services to provided proof of citizenship. So, absent some major amendments to the legislation and a credible, concrete enforcement effort in action, looks like the myth on this issue is the one being spread by Obama, Reid, Pelosi, et. al.
we just deduct the cost of non-citizen health care from the donations we send to their home country every year? After all, we most certainly donate money to every country in the world, it would seem.
We could even put a "surcharge" for export duties, on those health care charges. Maybe then their own gov'ments would try to keep them at home.

1980s: Obama dabbles in drug use and gains street cred as a troubled youth. Later brags about doing cocaine on the presidental campaign trail. Lefties tell us to forgive his jouvenile mistakes.
1990s: Attends a party with a self-admitted terrorist and ends up working on a committee with said terrorist. Photos start appearing online of Obama attending Palestinian support meetings in the company of radical anti-Semites. He writes a memoir filled with resentment toward white people and a growing affection for BLT. By 2008, lefties tell us this is all in the past and he doesn't feel that way anymore.
2000s: Admits to being a member of Jeremiah Wright's church and calls Wright a personal mentor. After Wright is exposed as a racist, Obama is shocked to discover that yet another personal friend is a hateful bigot. Obama writes another book titled after one of Wright's sermons (even though this personal mentor is not that close to him). Michelle Obama is paid 300k salary to do imaginary "diversity" work for Univ. of Chicago hospital, which she continued to recieve even when campaigning full time. Obama uses his Senator status to funnel earmarks back to the hospital. In a completely unrelated story, Jill Stanek testifies about abuse of abortion laws in a major Chicago hospital, and Obama tells her to buzz off. LEFTIES SHRUG AND SAY WE ARE RACIST FOR BRINGING ANY OF IT UP.
2008: Lefties promise that Obama is done sowing wild oats. He learned his lesson about avoiding bad company and will work on being more pragmatic in the future. Governor Blagojevich is indicted for attempting to sell Obama's Senate seat and claims Obama's personal staffers knew about it. Again Obama is shocked that something so corrupt would happen around him. He tells the press he didn't even know Blago. More photos appear online showing Obama and Blago talking in a number of different locations. Obama changes the subject. Lefties tell us we are paranoid. Oh, and we all whitewash corruption in the Bush administration because WE are blinded by loyalty.
2009: Obama appoints convicted criminals and self-avowed communists to work directly under his supervision. Several cabinet nominations are shamed into resigning after learning they "forgot" to pay taxes. Fox News asks Obama if he knew about his handpicked czars being militant communists. He ignores the questions. More information leaks out that another domestic terrorist worked directly with Congress to write the stimulus bill. Lefties respond by calling us racist and telling Glenn Beck to shut up.
Who has the bad luck of befriending people who happen to be terrorists - for three decades in a row?? Why are we always being told "this is the last one" or "that's ancient history" when it keeps happening?
At what point will any lefty here admit, at the very least, that Obama's bad at vetting people and really bad at choosing his friends? Or is it okay for terrorists to write legislation - as long as it says what the DNC wants??

We recently purchased a new vehicle. (But not under the CARS program.) Here in Ohio, if you buy a new car you pay tax on the price minus the value of a trade-in. If you buy used, you pay tax on the purchase price of the car - before trade-in. So I'd want to know more about how the government rebate is treated in each state, since you are technically trading in an old car. I have to admit skepticism about the rebate being treated as income, since an automaker's or dealer's rebate is not usually treated as such. Calling it a tax on the $4,500 or whatever is not really accurate, IMO. The tax is on the price of the vehicle.

CRS also notes that the bill has no provision for requiring those seeking coverage or services to provided proof of citizenship. 1980s: Obama dabbles in drug use and gains street cred as a troubled youth. Later brags about doing cocaine on the presidental campaign trail. Lefties tell us to forgive his jouvenile mistakes.
1990s: Attends a party with a self-admitted terrorist and ends up working on a committee with said terrorist. Photos start appearing online of Obama attending Palestinian support meetings in the company of radical anti-Semites. He writes a memoir filled with resentment toward white people and a growing affection for BLT. By 2008, lefties tell us this is all in the past and he doesn't feel that way anymore.
2000s: Admits to being a member of Jeremiah Wright's church and calls Wright a personal mentor. After Wright is exposed as a racist, Obama is shocked to discover that yet another personal friend is a hateful bigot. Obama writes another book titled after one of Wright's sermons (even though this personal mentor is not that close to him). Michelle Obama is paid 300k salary to do imaginary "diversity" work for Univ. of Chicago hospital, which she continued to recieve even when campaigning full time. Obama uses his Senator status to funnel earmarks back to the hospital. In a completely unrelated story, Jill Stanek testifies about abuse of abortion laws in a major Chicago hospital, and Obama tells her to buzz off. LEFTIES SHRUG AND SAY WE ARE RACIST FOR BRINGING ANY OF IT UP.
2008: Lefties promise that Obama is done sowing wild oats. He learned his lesson about avoiding bad company and will work on being more pragmatic in the future. Governor Blagojevich is indicted for attempting to sell Obama's Senate seat and claims Obama's personal staffers knew about it. Again Obama is shocked that something so corrupt would happen around him. He tells the press he didn't even know Blago. More photos appear online showing Obama and Blago talking in a number of different locations. Obama changes the subject. Lefties tell us we are paranoid. Oh, and we all whitewash corruption in the Bush administration because WE are blinded by loyalty.
2009: Obama appoints convicted criminals and self-avowed communists to work directly under his supervision. Several cabinet nominations are shamed into resigning after learning they "forgot" to pay taxes. Fox News asks Obama if he knew about his handpicked czars being militant communists. He ignores the questions. More information leaks out that another domestic terrorist worked directly with Congress to write the stimulus bill. Lefties respond by calling us racist and telling Glenn Beck to shut up.
Who has the bad luck of befriending people who happen to be terrorists - for three decades in a row?? Why are we always being told "this is the last one" or "that's ancient history" when it keeps happening?
At what point will any lefty here admit, at the very least, that Obama's bad at vetting people and really bad at choosing his friends? Or is it okay for terrorists to write legislation - as long as it says what the DNC wants??
