For general discussion. Possible talking point: tax hikes as far as the eye can see!

The Treasury reports that our country's federal debt has doubled in nine years, rising steadily, year by year, to $10.72 trillion from $5.67 trillion in 2000. Our deficit for the current year fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30, is expected to total $1.8 trillion, four times last year's figure, leaving us with a federal debt of $38,500 for every U.S. resident. Our economy is doing poorly; it will shrink about 2.6% this year. Unemployment in July reached 9.4% and will likely further increase, and tax revenues are down $353 billion over the first 10 months of this fiscal year. So we can easily see what is just around the corner. Earlier this month Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and Larry Summers, director of the National Economic Council, opened the door, suggesting that taxes on all taxpayers will have to go up. As Stephen Moore noted in The Wall Street Journal, "it would take almost $16,000 more from every household in America to balance the budget this year." We certainly won't get to balanced budgets for decades, but substantially higher taxation seems inevitable.

Let's kick off with a little rebellion

“This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or exercise their revolutionary right to overthrow it.” (Abraham Lincoln, First Inaugural Address, March 4, 1861)

I second that Nolo.  It

I second that Nolo.  It was very disturbing reading that article.  Thieves and children are in charge of the country right now.  The sleeping giant is slowly awakening.  I only hope it is not too late for the shout of "ENOUGH" to stop the disastrous slide the country is in.

"it would take almost $16,000 more from every household..."

$16,000!!!

I can get pretty wee weed up about that...

v

Just as Rush left New York

...due to its confiscatory tax scheme, so will many leave the United States.

I must say, it's absolutely brilliant of the liberals to drive the best and the brightest off shore, while they take their capital and resulting jobs with them.  That'll fix the recession, and the fiscal mess we're in, yeppirs!!!!

I hope he fails, too.

Any Galts Left?

The hard part is that it's hard to tell who the Galts are these days.  I was always a supporter of Walmart, but now I see that they've joined with the unions in supporting Obama's healthcare plan.  So I guess they are more like James Taggart in that as long as they have what they want, nothing else matters.

But....but.....but..... I

But....but.....but.....

I thought all Obama's plans are deficit-neutral at the least, and actually might reduce the deficit!!

Too much time on their hands.

Mine is the panda, hands down.  In second place, Jack Sparrow.

The panda, buffalo, and camel are the most realistic and the ones I feel the least sorry for. The Jack Sparrow one gets points for invention.

We have some of each kind of poodle.  Stick w/ the full size Standard if possible; we like them the best.  And they are German; not French as portrayed. So they are like a BMW, Benz, Audi... not those FR cars... Renault, Duex Chevaux ?

This morning's Washington Post actually used the term "grim milestone" in a front page article about Coalition casualties in Afghanistan.

On Afghanistan, Political Test for Obama

The U.S.-led coalition in Afghanistan marked a grim milestone Tuesday when four American troops died in a roadside explosion near the volatile southern city of Kandahar. The attack brought the number of foreign troops killed in Afghanistan this year to 295, making this, with more than four months to go, the deadliest year for international forces since the war began in 2001.

No Apologies

At a time when our president and other politicians tend to apologize for our country`s prior actions, here`s a refresher on how some of our former patriots handled negative comments about our country.

======================================

JFK'S Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 60's when DeGaulle decided to pull out of NATO. DeGaulle said he wanted all US military out of France as soon as possible. Rusk responded "does that include those who are buried here? DeGaulle did not respond. You could have heard a pin drop

When in England, at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building by George Bush. He answered by saying, 'Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return.' You could have heard a pin drop.

There was a conference in France where a number of international engineers were taking part, including French and American. During a break, one of the French engineers came back into the room. 'Have you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he intended to do, bomb them?' A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: 'Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry half a dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and from their flight deck. We have eleven such ships; how many does France have?' You could have heard a pin drop.

A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that included Admirals from the U.S., English, Canadian, Australian and French Navies. At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large group of Officers that included personnel from most of those countries. Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked 'Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than speaking French?' Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied, 'Maybe it's because the Brit's, Canadians, Aussie's and Americans arranged it so you wouldn't have to speak German.' You could have heard a pin drop.

Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane. At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry on. "You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked sarcastically. Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously. "Then you should know enough to have your passport ready." The American said, 'The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it." "Impossible. Americans always have to show your passports on arrival in France !" The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he quietly explained, ''Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in 1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find a single Frenchmen to show a passport to." You could have heard a pin drop.

You ain't kiddin!  Tax hikes as far as the eye can see!

I didn't catch Matt Lauer or the propaganda organizers (MSM) telling that side of the story either.  They even hand Tingle leg Chris in there (SICK!).  They even said Kennedy handed over his crusade duty to Obama earlier.  Guess that makes Obama Tax Hiker in Chief now.  We already knew that before a vote was cast in November however.  America gets what it asked for.  Theft via over-taxation and certain damage, perhaps collapse, due to unlimited demand for "free" governement services.

In a famous poem---

"Concord Hymn" by Ralph Waldo Emerson

As I read and view the news very day and scan the blog sites, I notice one major factor of discontent among the participants. That is, that their wishes are being ignored, Our Congress has planted their feet in a direction that is not being influenced by the  desires of their constitutents. This is no longer the land of the patriots and the free. The Congress behaves toward the people as King George's government treated our predecessors in this country.

Stamp Act??? MY God--It pales in comparison to---Tobacco taxes, alcohol taxes, income taxes and then a bill that is badly flawed that will have Americans' spending trillions, a large part of which will got to provide "health care" for millions of people who entered our republic illegally.

A cap and trade bill that will destroy industries, reduce the number of jobs in our country and leaves America with a debt burden that takes us from the strongest country in the world to a laughing stock. A country whose debt is owned by socialistic/communistic countries of the world.

Stamp Act??? Lexington green??

I fear very soon there will be another "shot heard round the world".

Wake up Congress, listen to the people . Act now for the people before they have to remove you and act on their own.

Wonder how the media will characterize the attendees?? (rhetorical question)

raise taxes? why not lower spending?

For one year, I would like to operate like the government. I spend too much, so my boss has to give me a raise. Not that I deserve it, but my deficit is too high so I have determined that I need a 10% raise. Sound rediculous? Then why doesn't it sound rediculous when the govenment does it?

Brilliant idea.....CUT SPENDING...why can't Congress think of that?

Fake Hate Crime

Dem Headquarters Vandalized by SSEIU Activist: http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com

[q] The Colorado Democratic Headquarters in Denver was vandalized this morning. Eleven windows at the headquarters on Santa Fe Drive were shattered early this morning in a vandalism spree. The Dems blamed the vandalism  on the health care rhetoric.

But, later in the day authorities arrested a 24 year-old Maurice Schwenkler on suspicion of smashing 11 windows at Colorado Democratic Party headquarters. Shwenkler tried to conceal his identity while allegedly committing the crime, according to police descriptions.

...Schwenkler received a $500 payment by SEIU-related front-group Colorado Citizen Coalition. [endq]

If not for a policeman that happened to witness the crime, I'm sure democratics would be hailing this as 'right-wing terrorism'. Since it's clearly not, don't expect this to be reported widely. (The accused should also be subjected to the same sex-tests as that Olympic runner.)

Click here to help fix Mike's car! This is absolutely stunning.
My
co-worker, Mike Ditto, went to Congressman Ed Perlmutter's Town Hall
meeting on Saturday to listen to him talk to constituents about health
insurance reform. While he was there, his car was badly vandalized.
The
side mirrors were smashed off. Big dent on his hood. And scratches and
dents on every door and nearly every other panel of his car. All
because he had an SEIU Healthcare Rally flier in his car.
The health
insurance reform rhetoric has become heated over the last few weeks,
but to bash someone's car because they believe differently than you?
That's just wrong. It gave Mike quite a shock. And a hefty repair
quote--nearly $3,000.
So we're asking you to help us cover the cost
of Mike's car insurance deductible. And once we've reached the
deductible, we'll put all your donations to work fighting for
meaningful health insurance reform.
Help fix Mike's car and support our efforts for healthcare reform.
http://www.progressnowcolorado.org/HelpFixMikesCar
Health
insurance reform doesn't need a bandaid. "Just say no" is not a plan
for reform. It needs to be fixed so that everybody gets
covered--regardless of a health condition, regardless of their age, or
their gender.
Stand up for health care reform today and start by fixin' Mike's car!
Thanks,

HEY - 2 thoughts

If they buried Kennedy with Jackson, they could save money.  But who gets to be on top.

If they dedicate ObamaCare Bill to Ted, can we dedicate an anti-DUI bill to Mary Jo Kopechne?

Matthews finally jumps off the Mental Cliff

Just when things can't get worse for Barack Obama, Chris Matthews dubs el Presidente Papa Doc, the...

FOURTH KENNEDY BROTHER!!!

Far be it from me to state the bleedon' obvious BUT...

Two Kennedys were shot to death. One left a woman to drown.

Is this really a portent filled with foreboding!

Thanks Barack! You've done more to promote conservatism than any president since Ronald Reagan (PBUH).

Kennedy siblings

The eldest brother, Joe was shot down during the war.  Papa Kennedy lobotomized one of his daughters.  Another (Kathleen?) and was killed in a plane crash.  Seems Eunice and Teddy were the only ones to survive to old age.  <edit> Apparently William K. Smith's (charged with rape) mom is still with us.

The next generation included a drug addict, accused rapist, and several untimely deaths.  And a Princess who can't cobble together two sentences without saying "you know" twenty-five times.

What a sad tale.  Being a Kennedy isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Oh, and I had a friend who dated one of the Lawford grandsons back in the day.  My friend was at the compound in Palm Beach and even met Rose, whom she said was a blatant bigot and anti-semitic (my friend was Jewish).  The place was a dump, and filthy, too.   The way my friend described it, it was kind of like Pigpen's blanket....when you sat down, you were enveloped in a big cloud of dust.  Camelot, indeed.

I hope he fails, too.

May I say--

--the emperor has no clothes?/ Or is it too late.

Good catch , blonde.

Thanks misterbill

And Matthews is such a dope....Obama the 4th Kennedy brother?

Even Chrissy should be able to count to five....although I suppose Joe Jr. doesn't count, because he died a heroes death during WWII.

I hope he fails, too.

blonde -- I had a feeling

blonde -- I had a feeling there was an actual 4th brother when I heard that, but couldn't work up the enthusiam to google.

Would that make Obama the black sheep of the Kennedy family?

Thanks Barack! You've done more to promote conservatism than any president since Ronald Reagan (PBUH).

"Would that make Obama the black sheep of the Kennedy family?"

Not quite Jack. It would make him the half  black shemp of the family! ; )

Gary

A liberal's generosity is limited only by your income.

taxation versus job creation

Well all those anti-Bush assholes who said the tax cuts were just for the rich are in for a rude awakening, aren't they? Let's take the small business owner, a group that generates 70-80% of all new PRIVATE SECTOR jobs in what's left inthis economy. Say his profit margin is 10% , his tax bill goes up $4,000. That means to net that, just to stay even, not taking into account increases in his cost of living(cap&tax) he has to gross an additional$40,000 in revenues, which given the economic climate may or may not be possible. So what does he do? Cut cost. How? An employee, maybe? These marxists couldn't even run a lemonade stand in the desert profitabily, never read a book on market economics that wasn't a critique and they're in charge!!!If it were only a bad dream.

Good article to look at. Effect of high taxes - Job loss in UK.

Americans leaving London due to new 50% tax rate.  Job losses about 100% higher than even here.  Just shows what an effect high taxes have on economics.
