Rupert Murdoch has vowed to charge for all the online content of his newspapers and television news channels, going well beyond his prediction in May that the company would test pay models on one of its stronger papers within the year...The sweeping decision by the owner of titles including The News of the World and The Australian to abandon the practice of giving away news in exchange for attracting a large audience for advertisers could embolden other publishers warily examining paid content models. "We intend to charge for all our news websites," Mr Murdoch said.

Remember, before the age of the internet, we all paid for our news (other than network news, which as we all now understand, hasn't counted as news since Uncle Walter was our hero).
Most of us here (judging by our political junkie natures) were more than likely avid readers, paying for news in at least a daily local newspaper, and perhaps another daily like the WSJ, a weekly like the NYT Sunday, and several (in my case too many to police up in the living room) magazines.
So yes, I would pay for it, provided the reporting was in-depth (think of The Economist, a lefty rag, but at least they get the back story and facts correct...it's just their conclusions that are biased) and non-biased, and covered topics about which I'm interested.
Having said that....pay for FoxNews online? No way. They're not that good. Plus, I already pay for it on cable.

My only complaint is that from the videos I've seen, a lot of the protesters are quite old. It seems hypocritical to me for people on Medicare to be protesting the notion government run healthcare.

I don't think it's hypocritical, it's self interest. What Obama has failed to tell you is that the bulk of Medicare costs are due to nursing home care, not simply using half of the cost in the last two years of life. There is so much disinformation coming out of the Whitehouse, it's no wonder people are confused as to the facts. A significant portion of current and future Medicare costs could be saved by simply changing the rules to treat ALF (assisted living facility) the same as a nursing home in terms of Medicare payments. ALFs are a 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of a nursing home. The difference between them is a nursing home is a medical facility with the resultant more costly staff, most care for the elderly in these facilities is easily outsourced by home health care, this is why ALFs are cheaper. Medicare only pays for the specific service rendered in an ALF by home health care, whereas in a nursing home you are paying the full monty for the potential to use their services.
It is because of the incompetence of government running Medicare that the costs of this program are spiraling as more people retire, it's a function of demographics multiplied by stupidity. Even old people should be protesting that! It is because of the government cost shifting by under reimbursing medical care providers that our insurance rates are up and those who are uninsured pay way too much. All Obama wants to do is change the accounting of how it is paid in return for running the whole ball of wax through various stealth government entities revealed by the GOP's chart of ObamaCare.

And--what is an 80 year old lady to do when she sees the politicians of today taking healthcare money away from those who paid into it for 30/40 years, who may be or are too old to get a job in today's advanced technical environment--who would hire them over younger employees??? And who would insure them even if they had a job?? Do you subscribe to the theory that a younger person's life is more precious than an older person??
Answer the questions above, to yourself, and it may give you some simple answers to improve the healthcare system without destroying the existing framework.

They give just enough to cover subsistence, but take away any incentive to progress and prosper out of the slums. Look at the birth rate to unwed mothers. Look at the percentage of minorities that own their own homes, that have two parents, married, in the home. My argument would have been police protection should be profit based especially in high crime areas like New Orleans. Obviously, the model for making it profit based couldn't work like selling hamburgers, but management companies and security consultants could be hired to increase effectiveness of police departments.

I can drive a Hyundai, a Hummer, or a Harley-Davidson. It all depends on the amount of effort and education I bring to my work.
How do people live when money is no longer the standard of exchange?
What determines where someone works, how long and how (or if) they are compensated for that work?
Why would anyone work harder than anyone else knowing they wouldn't be 'compensated' any more than his co-worker?
And why would anyone build a better restaurant or department store than his competitors, knowing that no one had the ability to 'compensate' him for the better quality goods and services he would provide?
Who would invent the next Ipod, the next hybrid engine, or the next lifesaving medical technology knowing there would be no extra compensation for it?
Does the government think they can wave a magic wand and these innovations just materialize? Or can they issue an executive order and expect a future Bill Gates to cheerfully spend days and nights, gratis, to come up with some new and revolutionary operating system?

The government can't collect taxes on a private sector that doesn't exist. If doctors are on the government dole, then how are they creating wealth to be taxed? If taxes are paying for "shovel ready jobs" then what sense does it make to collect taxes on your own money?
Capitalism is the engine that creates the wealth for the government to seize.
England is inching toward bankruptcy. Iceland went full belly-up and had to get a handout from Russia. Sweden saw the writing on the wall and relented on returning to private hospitals.

2) The plan is not to cover 5% of us. The plan is to cover all of us under the government, and to add some 45 million new patients into a sytem with the same amount of doctors and clinics.
3) If you plan on telling me that this plan will not eventually move us all into the public plan, then please explain why the current bill prohibits private insurers from recruiting any customers in the future, per page 16:

Only the broadcasters don't pay for their content on cable since the cable companies are mandated by law (franchise agreement) to carry them without charge. Cable operators agree to this since why would they want a local broadcaster beaming free content via an antenna as competition to a paid subscription?
FNC like the rest of the channels make their money from the advertisers based upon the volume of viewers. The only thing that really is different between print and media (like FNC) is that print makes money on both advertisers and viewers through subscriptions. NYT tried and failed the paid subscription route with the internet. There is no reason to believe FNC will succeed where the NYT failed.

listen, im not saying socialism is the answer, but what i am saying is you need balane in everything. capitalism is not the answer either. but if you take the best of both, you have a more perfect system. socialism is good for some areas of scoiety, as is capitalism. to preach that capitalism is the end all answer is crazy.

And besides, I think this is a good way to do it because nothing has happened to my computer, but perhaps that's not a good enough reason to recommend it to someone else.
So never mind...carry on with your one working computer. :)

Not that the disinfecting part is important, but it's just that these wipes have just the right amount of moisture, without causing any problems...at least, that's my experience! I'd not try to substitute baby wipes (often too wet) or a generic brand of wipes (which tend to be either too dry or too wet). One of my friends says the Pledge Wipes work well, but I haven't tried that -- seems like it would be oily...?
