For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Will N. Korea or won't N. Korea?

U.S. missile defenses are prepared to try to knock down the last stage of a Taepodong-2 missile that North Korea is expected soon to launch if sensors detect the weapon threatens U.S. territory, the commander of the U.S. Northern Command told The Washington Times. "The nation has a very, very credible ballistic-missile defense capability. Our ground-based interceptors in Alaska and California, I'm very comfortable, give me a capability that if we really are threatened by a long-range ICBM that I've got high confidence that I could interdict that flight before it caused huge damage to any U.S. territory," said Air Force Gen. Victor E. "Gene" Renuart, Northcom commander.

Wow

These are very scary times indeed. I hope Obama is up to the challenge.

He had my vote

Wow indeed.

I never thought I'd say this, but I would really rather have Hillary in the big chair this weekend than O.

Of course, I seriously doubt the whackjob in North Korea would be pulling this tantrum of his with McCain in the White House.

I hope he fails, too.

Re Hillary

I've thought of Hillary as well. In so many areas she would be better for our country than this idiot, especially foreign policy. We already know she wasn't comfortable with his appeasement policy on Iran. I ecpect she is also horrified with his stance in support of Chavez and Zelaya re Honduras. If she intends to have any kind of a career beyond SoS, I expect there will be more leaks that signal her disapproval of his nutty positions.

Interesting

We always suspected Hillary would jump ship....perhaps she'll do it earlier rather than later.  Obama's foreign policy (or lack thereof) has been abysmal to date.

All it will take is for Bamster to make a really stupid error, and Hillary will position herself to run at him in the primaries.  In fact, I think she is really a prime indicator of how "well" Obama is doing amongst democrats, if she even sniffs an opportunity, she'll bolt.   The proverbial canary in a coal mine.

It will be interesting to see if Dick Morris weighs in on this.  He knows the Clinton's so well.  Oh, and I failed to mention old Bill as well...it's got to grate on him to be boxed up, and not able to rake in the cake bucks with HRC as SecState.

I hope he fails, too.

I'd have to agree...Hillary

I'd have to agree...Hillary would at least have more stones than this lightweight.

Heck if it did come down to Hillary vs. McCain...I may of had the old Ann Coulter thinking too.

wtb bomb shelter?

Heh.

I read this yesterday in Reuters.  I couldn't find it this morning but I found the same article at SFGATE

But the scientists say that if North Korea does have such a Russian-made ballistic missile in its arsenal, it could modify the rocket into a two-stage missile that could reach Seattle, Wash., carrying a 900-kilogram warhead, or San Francisco carrying a 700-kilogram charge

Definately got my attention.

Thank God for that

Thank God for that information [San Fran, Seattle]. I was worried at first that the missile could reach a vital part of the United States; glad to see that it's effects could actually be of benefit to us -- especially if Nancy is home.

Why is Barney Frank allowed

Why is Barney Frank allowed to screw taxpayers? Why is he still out of control? And why does Massachussetts continue to re-elect this type of power-hungry thief? Now he is trying to divert paid-back TARP funds to his pet projects, in violation of the law. Frank continues to believe that people who want to leech off of others are deserving of others' money; and that people like myself are required to fund these freeloaders. He and the rest of the congressional democrats are lawbreakers, every single one of them. They all need to be arrested and thrown in jail.

Forgive me but I see the upside of KORCOM missle launches.

Could be the best thing that could happen is for the KORCOM Lunatics to launch their biggest and baddest missile toward our left coast.  It might be a good thing for our Lunatic  'peace because we say so' Left to experience life in the gun site of a mad man.  Just might get their attention, an epiphany if you will.

July 4th -- Remember our Troops

I'm thinking about our troops in the Middle East today, expecially the Marines who have finally been brought in to do the job that NATO and the Brits couldn't do in Afghanistan.

I am also awaiting the apologies and recognition that the Left still owes us. Obama, for example, instead of taking credit for Iraq, needs to apologize to President Bush for ever doubting him. President Bush stood up to everyone, including his own party, to make the surge work.

Harry Reid needs to apologize for his disgusting "the war is lost" comment.

Murtha -- when is he going to apologize for declaring our Marines "murderers"?

Has Hillary Clinton apologized yet to Gen Patraeus for her "you have to suspend disbelief" remark during the Senate hearings? I doubt it.

And the entire MSM needs to apoligize to all of us for supporting the likes of Cincy Shaheen for her pathetic attempt to have our military fly the white flag.

I'm going to tune in to CBS tonight -- or maybe MSNBC -- so I can catch all their apologies. I'm sure I won't have to wait long, you think?

For some odd reason I just don't feel much like celebrating this weekend. Under Chairman Maobama this country has gone downhill further in 5 months that in any other 5 months in its glorious history.

With a Congress that does not bother to read the bills they pass tells me that the sacrifices of founders means absoulety nothing to them.

Folks a "czar" that tells corporate executives what they can make has gone way to far. Any "czar" that is not accountable to we the people is wrong.

Yes I do live in the freest country in the world but we will be able to brag about that come Independence Day 2010?

Semper suprene nitens

Americans on the 4th at Wimbledon

We'll definitely have an American crowned as the ladies champ tomorrow....always a treat on the 4th of July....as the Williams sisters are playing each other, for the 8th time, in a grand slam final.  I'm pulling for Venus.....solidarity for my fellow big sister.

We'll see which Andy (ours or theirs, Roddick or Murray) reaches the final...we'll know in the next few hours.  I'm kind of hoping theirs, as Roger Federer is always my pick, and it would be hard for me to want Roddick to beat him on Sunday.

Great tennis, all the way around, though.

I hope he fails, too.

Marco Rubio

I just listened to a half hour interview that Andrew Wilkow did with Marco Rubio. As far as I have heard Crist is being endorsed by about all the Reps in the Senate. Jim Demint of SC is the only one so far to endorse Rubio.

I used to think politics in this state were screwed up until I heard him taking about the politics in the panhandle. Well, he has a long uphil climb to beat RINO Charlie. Seem to be that he is the conservative in the race. By the way they talked some Gator stuff. I think he said he graduated in 93 from UF and Andrew in '97.

Semper suprene nitens

Rubio

He definitely has the support of the conservatives...in a straw poll on the west coast a few weeks ago, he beat Crist by about 73 - 4.

I was furious that Cornyn endorsed Crist on the day he announced...these bloody RINO's need to keep their noses out of state politics.  As soon as Rubio ramps up his campaign, I'm going to get actively into it....presuming I'm still living here, that is.

I'm not surprised they talked Gators.....we all bleed orange and blue, the same way you're a Tarheel 'til the day you die.  I can't wait for football season to start, woo hoo.  That's my happy thought for the day, Bamster is just too depressing.

I hope he fails, too.

.."a fire shower of nuclear retaliation"...

Hmmm.  Okay then, thanks for letting us know where you stand you freakshow socially-maladjusted paranoid dwarf.

No missile on the 4th

There's little evidence of a missile launch planned for the 4th. The Nork's missiles are liquid fueled, they require a large gantry and we know where those are, they take days to transport, stack up and then fuel up, etc. That process is not underway. If the little runt wants an extravaganza for the 4th, it will be another nuclear test. If he really wants to get the world's attention, it will be a surface test, vs underground. That's the big enchilada, imho.

If in fact the rocket is a Russian one it's a solid fueled unit

Russian  ICBM parts

Using
data and imagery from North Korea's April 4 launch, Postol and Wright
calculated that the second stage of the North Korean rocket had the
external dimensions, engine power and key features of an SS-N 6, a
Soviet submarine-launched ballistic missile first deployed in 1968.

So they will still need to load the first stage with propellant, If they hurry it just may blow up..

The lack of accurate news reporting on Honduras is fast becoming a media bias story. Even Fox News doesn't cover this; why? Has the White House sent out blackout demands to the media? Sorry if I take my faith

Sorry if I take my faith seriously. It has shaped my life and views. It has set me on a path on which I've married an amazing man and raised a beautiful family. Christian faith is THE basis for the country we live in. Mormonism, if you are familiar with it, is a bastardization of Christianity. I'm STRONGLY Pro-life and Pro marriage. How strongly did Romney push for these things when he was Gov... BEFORE becoming a candidate for president? Strong faith makes for strong character. Coming from a flawed faith results in flawed character, as Romney is. Sarah is the real deal.

Re Palin

This is not a breaking news site, it's a media bias site. I suspect there will be several stories of media bias wrt the Palin resignation within minutes here as MSNBC and other far-left media begin their rabid speculation and rumor-mongering.

Possibilities: Running for US Senate 2010. Big media contract; she's been offered millions by the networks to do some kind of talk/politics show. Had enough of politics altogether and wants no more of it. Personal health problems. Go private and make money giving speeches a la Billy Clinton and pile up a war chest.

She has since tweeted that there is nothing bad here, and what she is doing is what's the best for her family.

Andrea Mitchell making the claim that she wants to leave politics. Claiming inside sources.

As if.....

Andrea Mitchell would have any inside sources with the Palin camp (I can still see her peevishly slapping away baloons at the Republican convention).  I expect the "inside" story will come to us via either John Zeigler or Greta van Susteren, who have been fair to Sarah Palin.

Regardless of what happens, I wish the Governor all the best.   She's yet to exhibit one instance of the politician's propensity to spin everything, so I'm going to give her the respect she deserves, and take her explanation at face value.

And I just had a thought....wouldn't it be great if she were to lead the Republican party instead of Mike Steele?

I disagree

Athough I certainly see through your tactic.

Prior to accepting the leadership role of the Republican party, Steele was excellent at articulating and defending conservative positions on the numerous talk shows, etc.  Furthermore, he had name recognition, and a higher national profile of any of the other candidates for the leadership role.  I was willing to give him the opportunity to actually do some leading.

I believe he succumbed to the pressure of the RINO's, unfortunately, and he was none too deft in that little media created dust-up with Rush.

She did, kind of...in her own way

They just played a clip that got into the "thinking" a little bit more, although it certainly wasn't anything traditional, in the political sense of the word.

Personally, I think she's sick and tired of the lack of leadership and fire in the party, and she sees an opportunity to lend some of her superstar power to candidates and issues that interest her.

Being in Alaska has kind of ham-strung her in this regard, getting all kinds of criticism every time she stuck a toe in the Lower 48.

Further, I suspect she is going to attempt to become kind of a power broker.  We know she is passionate about energy independence, and she might be able to get a little bit of movement on our side of the issue with the new super majority in Congress.

Time will tell, though.

I hope he fails, too.

Re Romney

Perhaps the Republican Party needs a purity committee, that will vet anyone that claims to be a Republican, for Christian religious and moral purity. This will be modeled after Ayatollah Khameini's Revolutionary Council that refused 391 of 395 candidates in Iran's election. That's sure to win us some elections. But who will run the purity committee? What branch of Christianity shall we limit candidates to?

I finally saw the movie. In spite of Megan Fox being in it. There were a few parts that made me laugh out loud, while the others in the theater chuckled. I thought I'd share...

1) Wheelie. His quote about Megan Fox's character sums her up in real life: "You hot but you aint so bright" LMAO

2) The new National Security Advisor, invoking President Obama, wants to try diplomacy with the Decepticons. We all know how that came out, even if you didn't see the movie yet! I took it as a slam against President Obama, I don't know about the rest of the audience.

All in all, a good movie. Neither good enough to watch in the theater again, nor good enough to purchase. Those two parts, however, will stay with me for a long time to come!

"The problem is not that people are taxed too little...the problem is that government spends too much." ~President Ronald Reagan

Talk about INSPIRATION!

You may be familiar with this passage, but I just read it for the first time:

"...The general spread of the light of science has already laid open to every view the palpable truth, that the mass of mankind has not been born with saddles on their backs, nor a favored few, booted and spurred, ready to ride them legitimately, by the grace of God."

Thomas Jefferson

Nationalized Healthcare is a DEATH SENTENCE.

Tailgunner...I'm not...

familiar with that passage actually...Thanks for posting it here...

Powell on Ubama

Will the liberal media cover Colin Powell when he says something bad about The Messiah?

Powell Airs Doubts on Obama Agenda:  http://www.washingtontimes.com

"Colin Powell, one of President Obama's most prominent Republican supporters, expressed concern Friday that the president's ambitious blitz of costly initiatives may be enlarging the size of government and the federal debt too much."

Lol slick... I heard Rush

Lol slick...

I heard Rush report about this bit of news on his show yesterday....I think it was yesterday, could have been today too.

He got a kick out of it...so do I.

What a hypocrite, when convenient....and he knows the msm will say nothing...in fact, they will spin for him, as they always have.

Doubling down on stupid is not a particularly good idea. ~Andrew Breitbart

What's both amazing, and

What's both amazing, and scary, is the level of overreach, spending, etc of Obama and Congress that is it taking for any of his supporters (media included of course) to even BEGIN to question him.  They should have questioned him LONG AGO.  The fact that it takes this much of the crap just to get anyone on the Left and and other supporters to blink is a very sad commentary on America.

Only a city as mighty as

Only a city as mighty as Pittsburgh would be able to host Furries AND Mensa conventions on the same weekend.

RINO Colin Powell now has some doubts about Obama.

Drudge has a link to a Washington Times article titled Powell airs doubts on Obama agenda that reads in part:

"I'm concerned at the number of programs that are being presented, the bills associated with these programs and the additional government that will be needed to execute them," Mr. Powell said in an excerpt of an interview with CNN's John King, released by the network Friday morning.

"Powell's not a Republican. McCain's not a Republican. These guys are not even mavericks. They are Washingtonians. Washingtonians have their own culture and their own desires, and it is to matter. They don't care who's in power, they just want to be closely associated with whoever is. That's the name of the game and they want press adulation. They want to be loved and adored by the media, they want fawning treatment, they want to be thought of as something special, unique, dignified and so forth, and that's the Washington establishment." ~ Rush Limbaugh

McCain on Iran

Senator McCain delivered the Republican address for July 4th, and signaled his support for the Iranian people who are still fighting for freedom even though the US old media has moved on. He said what President Prissypants should be saying but for some reason is unwilling to.

Republicans Reach Out to Iranian People:  http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com

"Today, we stand with the millions of Iranians who brave batons, imprisonment and gunfire to have their voices heard and their votes counted. They do not ask us to arm them or come to their assistance with anything other than public declarations of solidarity, and public denunciations of the tyrants who oppress them. We have a moral obligation to do so.

There are those among us who warn that a strong and unequivocal declaration of moral support for Iranians would be used by the cruel regime in power there to convince their subject people that the United States is behind the civil unrest they have attempted to hide from the world. But the regime will make that claim no matter what we say or do. Do they really believe Iranians don’t know why they’re protesting and who is oppressing them? Do they think Iranians whose votes were discarded, whose voices have been ignored, whose lives have been threatened by the regime they wish to be rid of will think America has put them in that position; that the CIA caused a brave and idealistic young woman to step out of her car to join their protest, only to be instantly murdered by the henchmen of the regime?"

To some extent McCain is obviously addressing the Bamster directly. Not that it will do much good with him, but we need to wake up Americans to the dangers of a weakling President.
