For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: a year without a summer?
According to Long Range Expert Joe Bastardi, areas from the northern Plains into the Northeast will have a "year without a summer."
If this happens, will the global warming myth be so exposed that media will finally have to realize how they've been played by Gore and his ilk? Will this end the Democrats' dreams of taxing carbon dioxide? Or will it take more years of cooling temperatures for the alarmists to give up?

June 9, 2009 - 09:34 ET by ricklailToday is sort of an anniversary for me. 40 years ago today I began basic training at Ft. Jackson. I just 17 years old, I would not turn 18 for 3 more days. A lot of people had told me it was going to be 8 weeks of living hell. It didn’t turn out to be that bad even though at times I would question what I was thinking when I signed up. I would not trade those experiences for all the “tea in China.” I can’t say it made a man out of me but I wasn’t smart assy to my parents any more. If you are having problems with your teenager suggest they join the military.

LESSONS LEARNED??
June 9, 2009 - 11:15 ET by reelman46COURIC-LING-LEE = LIBERAL LESSONS
The modern liberals are so convinced of at least two things…they are super smart and you need not question them…ever.
Picking but one day in the news, June 9.2009, offers us reality. The enemy of every liberal is reality.
First, we have the perky affirmative action gal, the “historic” Katie
Couric…you know, the snooty ultra biased news anchor we all deserve to
fawn over nightly. The natural PC choice.
The result of her “intentions” to educate the dim bulb population?
Her ratings slowly sank and sank and sank…and now are at the lowest point in CBS history.
Will this teach the biased libs at CBS anything?
Where will the blame be shifted?
How will this be explained? Stay tuned.
Then we have two reporters from an AlGore company being charged and
sentenced by North Korea to 12 years hard labor. The NK camps have a
long history of real torture and many of the sentenced do not live near
12 years. This is the same country, when labeled part of the “axis of
evil”, shocked the liberal sensitivity. Only America can be evil in the
liberal mind. The sneering liberal media mocked the president who
called North Korea “evil”.
Will this teach the modern liberals anything about evil in the modern world?
Where will the blame be shifted?
How will it be excused? Stay tuned.

June 9, 2009 - 12:34 ET by pahuberI joined the USN in Jan. of '86. I signed up for 6 years and wondered throughout all of basic and tech school what I had done! I finally got used to it during my first assignment in Japan. I loved those days now and would not trade them for anything either :)

They will never give up completely, because 2/3 of those involved are not motivated by environmental concerns.
My guess is, they will also begin searching for another man-made "catastrophe" cause to get behind as an excuse to trample our freedoms and liberties into the ground.

Agreed
June 9, 2009 - 09:54 ET by BKeyserThe focus will shift even further toward "Climate CHANGE" in lieu of "Global Warming" and if the temps continue to go south (no pun intended) another Ice Age scare will emerge like during the 70's.
So, I agree with you Dave, this is not likely to pursuade the bullsh**ters since "protecting the Earth" is, and never has been, the objective. Besides, it's become a business too large to fail...
On thing that has confused me since the '08 campaign got into full swing though... isn't "change" a good thing?

I'm sure in the short term a bad summer in the NE will make it harder to pass any form of carbon tax or cap and trade but get ready for the usual suspects to start shouting "You idiots, bad summer weather is proof of global warming".
Give Up?
June 9, 2009 - 09:52 ET by BlondeI doubt it. They'd (democrats) tax sex if they could get away with it.
It was interesting, in Costa Rica I found most of the ex-pats thought Global Warming was hooey, while almost all of the tourist attractions (you can't imagine how many zip-line forest rides there are there....that's gotta be good for the forest, yup!) were advertising how "green" they are. Green sells as a marketing strategy, and that won't change any time soon.
Which brings me to my point (finally(!), I know). I believe it's time to pull the old bait and switch on the Warmers. Take away their depiction of us skeptics as wasteful, greedy, consumption crazy pigs. Co-opt their green message, and own the "conservation" point of view. I know many of us here are ardent outdoorsmen and women....we're all for using our natural resources....wisely, so that they are there in better shape than we found them for our children and grandchildren. This may mean really advocating for things like "no take" reefs and wildlife conservation areas, but overall that improves the opportunities everwhere.
It's time to shout from the rafters at them "the debate is over, you lost, and here's what the grown ups are going to do to make this a better place for everyone. The result of OUR way is raising the standard of living instead of having humans live like neanderthals, as you would have it, silly, discredited Warmers".
I hope he fails, too.

Bastardi and Dyson
June 9, 2009 - 10:16 ET by slickwillie2001In the Accuweather article, note how the most interesting item is not hinted at in the title, and is downplayed, to the sixth paragraph: "According to Long Range Expert Joe Bastardi, areas from the northern Plains into the Northeast will have a "year without a summer.""
When reading that you kind of back up and say, whoa!
In other 'global warming' news, the Freeman Dyson story is illuminating. He is a Princeton physicist highly respected by the liberals to date, but has come out as a non-believer:
"Basically, he doesn’t buy it. The climate models used to forecast what will happen as we continue to pump CO2 into the atmosphere are unreliable, Dyson claims, and so, therefore, are the projections. In an interview with Yale Environment 360, his first since the Times article appeared, Dyson contends that since carbon dioxide is good for plants, a warmer planet could be a very good thing. And if CO2 does get to be a problem, Dyson believes we can just do some genetic engineering to create a new species of super-tree that can suck up the excess." (Reference)
In reaction, the Warmist are attacking Dyson as you would expect, concluding suggesting that maybe he has gone senile or is 'over the hill'. Sad how readily they will throw someone under the bus and attack ad hominem.

Him 'going senile' would be about as likely as MSNBC giving Rush Limbaugh a show.
That being said, it's a shame Richard Feynman died 20 some odd years ago. He had genius, and a wit to match. I have a feeling he would be standing with Dyson.

ACORN Mission Creep
June 9, 2009 - 11:12 ET by slickwillie2001A couple of highly disturbing stories involving the ACORN Crime Syndicate:
ACORN Enters the Highly Lucrative Global Warming Hysteria Business: http://spectator.org
"Brian Kettenring, ACORN's deputy director of national operations, said his group - the largest grassroots community organization of low- and moderate- income people in the United States - was inspired to join the Climate Equity Alliance and work with groups such as the Sierra Club after seeing the vulnerability of cities such as New Orleans to rising sea levels and more intense climatic events."
Obama and ACORN Officials: Setting Sights on Gun Owners?: http://www.familysecuritymatters.org
""ACORN has, since 1998, received an estimated $31 million in government funding," said SAF founder Alan Gottlieb. "Now they have intervened in a New Jersey gun rights case in defense of an illegal Jersey City one-gun-a-month ordinance that violates the state preemption statute.""
This tells us that ACORN has made a discrete decision to leave their traditional areas and move into other issues, and it also tells us that they are flush with cash to do so, both troubling developments. And again, mostly funded by your tax money.
Long term, I see ACORN evolving into the Bamster's civilian corps, Brownshirts, Internal Affairs, etc. They will become civil servants, be un-fireable, and get huge boosts in salary and benefits.

June 9, 2009 - 11:37 ET by NL207"Long term, I see ACORN evolving into the Bamster's civilian corps"
These are Obama's shock troops. This is exactly where they are headed: Leninist Redshirts, Brownshirts of a different color.
AG Holder's recent refusal to prosecute the New Black Panther Party, who I believe are an ACORN affiliate, for election intimidation in Philadelphia is an ominous portent.
Rep. Bachman, (R), MN is sponsoring a bill that would cut off all federal money to organizations like ACORN. This is probabaly bad legislation, because it is unenforceable, but at the very least, the Congress can cut off the money pipe into ACORN and should do so.
