For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Benji meets Barack!
US President Barack Obama will host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for their first meeting on Monday as discord over Mideast peace and Iran's nuclear bid clouds ties between the close allies. The meeting marks Obama's most testing diplomatic challenge yet after he vowed to vigorously engage in attaining an elusive regional peace as part of a comprehensive strategy to peacefully resolve the Iranian nuclear standoff. Israel's hawkish premier, who wants a "fresh" approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, was set to unveil in the White House meeting his own long-awaited policy for regional peace focused on countering Iran. Yet Obama's hopes appear at odds with Netanyahu, who earned world criticism over his persistent refusal to endorse the creation of a Palestinian state, a bedrock principle of peace efforts in the Middle East for nearly two decades.
Will anything important come from this meeting -- other than media fawning over what a fabulous statesman Obama is?

2010: A GOP Hill
Given the amount of money the U.S. gives....
May 18, 2009 - 10:21 ET by Prester John...to Israel, I'm not so sure than Netanyahu will school him too harshly lest BHO suddenly decides to make some budget cuts in the area of foreign aid.
Re US aid
May 18, 2009 - 10:32 ET by slickwillie2001Not too relevant. When the survival of your state hangs in the balance, you don't look at foreign aid. That's like trying to bribe someone to commit suicide. Congress is also far more pro-Israel than the Bamster and might block any major changes in their area of responsibility.
Can't disagree too much
May 18, 2009 - 10:40 ET by Prester JohnI was merely commenting on "schooling (BHO) like a punk".
Given the money and support the US has given Israel, not to mention that Netanyahu isn't stupid, I don't think Netanyahu is going to come in and read BHO the riot act as such.
The discussions they will have on Iran will be interesting to say the least.
Re Iran
May 18, 2009 - 10:58 ET by slickwillie2001Sadly, the Bamster's strategy on Iran seems to be exactly the opposite of what might work. If he played the good guy to Iran and let Bibi play the bad guy (like a Kissinger/Nixon game on Vietnam) that might give incentive to Iran to negotiate. But by starting off by shielding Iran from Israel, Iran has no reason to talk.
You can say the same about Gaza and the West Bank; take care of Iran first, and that would disable supporters of Hamas and Fatah and push them to honest negotiations. Instead the Bamster pushes Israel for a solution before dealing with Iran. Exactly backwards.
Don't know if his problem is simply antisemitism or an appeasement mentality.
the Palestinians dismissed
May 18, 2009 - 12:08 ET by motherbeltthe Palestinians dismissed Netanyahu's
proposal as ambiguous and insist that any peace talks should resume
from the point reached during negotiations with his predecessor Ehud Olmert
That's because they liked where they were with Olmert. If not, they would be demanding to start from scratch!
They also know this about Netanyahu...
Netanyahu won't back a Palestinian state just for the sake of peace. And he's not going to roll over if Obama makes that a condition of reining in Iran.
From the above link:
The Israeli premier has pledged to unveil his policy for regional peace at the White House meeting, focussed on countering Iran.

Funny that this should come
May 18, 2009 - 16:11 ET by ricklailFunny that this should come up. Here is the letter to the editor of our local paper that I sent on Saturday.
Now that Dear Leader has become the self appointed COO of GM and Chrysler he has decided to slash the advertising budgets of both car makers and force them to close thousands of dealerships. Never mind that this will cost many jobs even though he has this pie in the sky idea of saving or creating millions of jobs.
Nobody really knows how all this is going to affect sales of Chevys or Dodges. If one pays much attention to the roads, Chevy and Dodge trucks seem to hold their own with Ford and Toyota. People still want trucks and big cars. The idea to force them to make smaller cars might just be the final nail in the coffin of 2 of the big 3.
Kia is building a huge plant on the Alabama/Georgia line. They are going to need outlets to sell their cars. Many of the dealerships are not going to just close the doors and board up the buildings. They will be looking for franchises from companies like Kia, Nissan or Toyota who still have huge advertising. Toyota’s one ton dually diesel powered truck should fill in the void left by GM or Chrysler who will be making cars that nobody wants. I give it two years before Government Motors finally gives up, throws in the towel, and Chevys and Dodges go the way of the Rambler.

The National Vehicle of Texas
May 19, 2009 - 00:14 ET by UnsaneThis more than likely still holds true even now...back when I bought my Dodge Ram, trucks outsold cars in TX. A drive down virtually any street or highway in TX will demonstrate the pervasiveness of Ford F-Series, Chevy/GMC pickups, and Dodge Rams, no matter if you are in downtown Houston or Loving County.
At least as far as this state is concerned, if Chrysler and GM are told by the Supreme Expert on the Automotive Industry, His Majesty The Shahinshah, to stop making pickups, Chrysler and GM are dead. Pure and simple. And for me it will be devastating, as I would prefer to get another Dodge Ram in the future.
There IS a reason the Tundra (please correct me if I am wrong) is made in San Antonio by Toyota (even if in vastly decreased numbers these days).

war? Think again while you take a look at what the daughters of our

As

You can read Chelsea Shilling's excellent WorldNetDaily article here.
It
looks to me as though the Godly values that helped to make America
great are slowing being removed from this once great organization.
The Girl Scouts should be the one place our nation's daughter's are safe from indoctrination by the freedom-hating Marxist left.
God knows they get enough of that from attending government schools.
I have to admit that I love some of the cookies the Girl Scouts sell, but I will have to seriously re-evaluate whether or not I will be buying them in the future.

May 18, 2009 - 17:29 ET by JABRDH, I had read info about this issue awhile back but you jogged my memory on an email asking for donations during these "difficult times" from a local chapter of the Boys & Girls Club that cater to low income families for after school programs. Well, what they did not know was I surveyed their location to do a job for them around Christmas time last year.
Here's the kicker as to why I did not donate. The curriculum for the week was to learn about the "kwanza (not caped for a reason) holiday". If I choose to donate to an org. I ensure they teach something other than a made-up holiday from a convicted felon.
I know it's not the kids fault but too bad, I invest in what I believe is right. My point is that if the Girls Club starts this, they may find more donators doing exactly whet I did for the same reasons. And the final result will be, once again thanks to liberal thinking, the kids will be the ones to suffer.

May 18, 2009 - 17:48 ET by JABThat is a true story that I had the mis-fortune of experiencing first hand, it was a sad day for me from that point forward. BTW, I bid the job so damn high I ensured myself I would not get it and I didn't.

JAB,
May 18, 2009 - 17:54 ET by R D HelmI am pretty selective about donations these days myself, not that I have any money to donate at the moment. You just never really know unless you check them out.
LOL-Back in the mid 1980's, I did a 30 acre boundry and topo about 60 miles west of Atlanta. We were out there as it was starting to get dark, and I walked into a small clearing.
There was a wooden shack and some old wooden benches out in front of it, with a large fire pit in between with all kinds of burned objects in it.
Being the curious sort, I stuck my head inside the shack, and there were al these Satanic symbols painted and scribbled on the walls.
LOL-As it was getting dark, we decided it was best to just move on.
I never went back to that area of the tract, but I have always wondered what those objects were mixed in with the ashes of that fire pit.

May 18, 2009 - 18:13 ET by R D HelmLOL-Yeah, that and a major case of the willies, too.
That's why I didn't go back to that part of the woods the rest of the time I was out there.
Satanists scare the hell out of me. Anybody crazy enough to do that is capable of anything.

Girl Scouts
May 19, 2009 - 05:49 ET by 1611LilacLadyThank you Dave. Just one more thread unravelling . . The thing is that this didn't happen overnight. 'They' put it all together and purposedly turned the Girl Scouts into a Socialism organization to bankrupt and brainwash young minds. The youth of Marx!

Seymour off his medication
May 18, 2009 - 20:30 ET by slickwillie2001Seymour (BS) Hersh off his medication again, now blaming VP Cheney for the assassination of Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto of Pakistan.
Hersh Accuses Cheney of Ordering the Hit on Bhutto: http://spectator.org
Remember that Hersh said he finds it perfectly acceptable to lie when he is talking, but he feels what he puts into print must be held to a higher standard. The man is seriously loony. Time for a Pulitzer Prize I suppose.
The election of Benjamin Netanyahu
May 19, 2009 - 00:03 ET by gopcongressThe election of Benjamin Netanyahu was a direct result of the media-indoctrinated election of Barack Obama. The people of Israel are no fools. They know that the next four years they will truly be on their own, including a massive attack orchestrated and led by the US Democratic Stalinists to destabilize, and frankly, to destroy Israel's ability to engage itself as an autonomous, democratic state.
This is instructive as Obama has predictably played the 2-state card, insisting that Israel give up its land to the Palestineans so they can be more emboldened to keep on attacking Israel. The Democrat Party, as well as most Euro socialist "democracies" would like NOTHING BETTER than to see Israel completely subdued. I daresay that they would like to see the land of Israel revert to Palestine, controlled 100% by Pan-Arabic rule.
If this is rather blunt, so be it. I'm done with the crap and we may as well put all the cards on the table. Bottom line: Obama and the Democrats want to destroy Israel, and Mr. Netanyahu is doing his damnedest to ensure that will not happen. And as a Libertarian-conservative, I'll be damned MYSELF to allow it to happen without doing what I can to stop this absolutely terroristic action.
