Thoughts about politics? Jim Geraghty notes a report on Chris Dodd from Connecticut: "At the well-attended annual meeting of the Northwest Connecticut Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, outgoing President Joe Greco’s comments about various dignitaries, including Gov. M. Jodi Rell, being unable to make it was followed by a crack about Dodd being available but the group asking him to stay away. It was met by laughter and a very loud round of applause from the several hundred, typically reserved, local businesspeople, in the room."
Plus: any thoughts on the NFL Draft? Jim Souhan of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune cracked wise about Minnesota's decision to draft wide receiver Percy Harvin: "Just as there are no atheists in foxholes, there can't be any moralists in NFL draft rooms. Saturday night, the Vikings selected a pot-smoking, coach-challenging, injury-hampered athlete from Florida." Randy Moss parallels?

He's no Sterling Sharpe
April 26, 2009 - 15:40 ET by Tim GrahamAs a Packer fan, the NFC North is going to look a bit different: new QBs in Detroit (Stafford) and in Chicago (Jay Cutler) and who knows who will start for the Vikes? I hope Harvin isn't too much of a basket case -- for the sake of the broader character of the NFL. I also hope he's no Randy Moss on the field. I remember feeling dread when the Vikes got him back then.
Randy Moss was a great player for the Vikings
April 26, 2009 - 15:58 ET by shawn228He did not caus much trouble the first few years and he made them alot of money by putting fans in the seat, much like Barry Bonds

April 26, 2009 - 16:21 ET by BlondeIs hardly a problem a la Randy Moss.
He'll have his head on straight on the field....the real question is whether or not he can stay healthy.
Best of luck to Percy....we'll be looking forward to seeing him on the sidelines at the next BCS game.
GO GATORS!!!!
I hope he fails, too.
Hey...
April 26, 2009 - 21:10 ET by klchadwickbeing a Fins Fan, I wasn't too excited about Moss at all.
My husband is from MN and was always a semi-Vikings fan. I say semi because he is one of the only guys that I know that can take it or leave it when it comes to the pigskin. Of course, I should have said "used" to be able to take it or leave it! When you marry a hardcore football maniac, it is hard to take it or leave it....especially after the 2nd broken television. :0(
Anyways, I digressed there for a moment. My husband used to root for the Vikes, but once he entered my world it was all turquoise and orange....no purple and gold allowed!!! ;0) After being so kind as to "share" my season tix with him (only after we were married of course....it wouldn't be proper otherwise) he began to get into it and next thing you know, the man is walking around the house wearing MY Thomas jersey! He had owned a Moss jersey (purple and gold) when we started dating and we ceremoniously burned it...only to have to see that name in MY turquoise and orange! What a rip! If we wanted a pot-smoking underachiever we could have kept Ricky Williams...again.
No, no....my only hope this season is that we can pull off another even close to last year. When is comes to the draft, where do we start? Since 1985, the Fins haven't been able to solidify their ground game, ala Marino's right arm. Of course since Danny went and retired and took his arm with him, the air game hasn't been exactly spectacular either. When you have a Marino, it is hard to justify a hand-off, but then when you have come to rely on that same arm for 1st, 2nd AND 3rd downs (and at times 4th), it is hard to get enthusiastic about seeing an "I" rather than 3-4 wide-spread. Of course, the QB is only going to be as good as the O-line and I think that some improvement on that front would be nice too.
On the D, the linemen are over played and the ends aren't as simpatico as they used to be. The nickel and the dime both need work as well. Also, not to be too greedy here, but for CB's...I'd take an upgrade.
I've been a Fins Fan since I was two years old, I've been a tix holder almost as long and I even went as far as getting a Fins tattoo when my 18th b-day rolled around. Yeah, that went over real well with my dad...the only thing he could say about it when he saw it was "At least you didn't get anything stupid". lol. So maybe you can see where this mindset comes from. My dad is the most straight laced guy around (well at least until he turned 50 and I got married)...he has had the exact same hair cut his entire life! At that time, for him to see a Fins tat on his 18yr old daughter and only say that 'it wasn't anything stupid', was practically celebrating it! Every year I bet on the Fins, every year I'm called delusional (and sometimes readily admit to it), but I just can't bet against my guys!

April 26, 2009 - 16:45 ET by bigtimerHey now RO.
...I had two pet Horney Toads as a kid, after you caught them and made them a cage/box sort to speak that replicated what made them happy with their natural surroundings...all you used to do is pet them with your middle finger in the middle of their heads between their thorns and they wouldn't leave you....they were very, very, content....brilliant colors too....depending on the Horney Toad you got.
I miss those reptiles.

My little sister and I met the same horney toad three years in a row, at the same time each year. His tail was missing. We called him Cutoff.

April 26, 2009 - 19:21 ET by bigtimerCA and CRex....
Wow, I thought CA was joking about not being legal to have a Horney Toad..how stupid of me...I should have known better...I really should have...especially if I would remember what the EPA/DiFi and husband did to get the Desert Tortoise listed as special species...long story, but it was and is horrendous unless they changed that asinine law...in the meantime DiFi and Hubby made a ton off of that one too....and that is going back to the early to mid-nineties...too lazy to google it, but I remember it well, NET did a great live Documentary on this...I am going to have to check and see if any of NET is on line, there are some great segments that were done.
It never ever ends with these people.
