For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: top talent leaving banks and Wall Street.
There is an air of exodus on Wall Street — and not just among those being fired. As Washington cracks down on compensation and tightens regulation of banks, a brain drain is occurring at some of the biggest ones. They are some of the same banks blamed for setting off the worst downturn since the Depression. Top bankers have been leaving Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Citigroup and others in rising numbers to join banks that do not face tighter regulation, including foreign banks, or start-up companies eager to build themselves into tomorrow’s financial powerhouses. Others are leaving because of culture clashes at merging companies, like Bank of America and Merrill Lynch, and still others are simply retiring early.
Is this good for banks and Wall Street firms as they rebuild themselves as stronger, more risk averse entities, or will the best leaving and/or refusing to work for these companies weaken them further?

He Has Risen
Sun, 04/12/2009 - 10:34 ET by acumenIn the clear sky, where to the east there is now a completely rosy zone, which is spreading out more and more widely, but where, however, there are no sunbeams as yet, a very bright meteor appears, coming from unknown depths, and it descends like a sphere which perhaps is nothing but the persistence of its brightness in our retinae. It descends at a very high speed towards the Earth, shedding such an intense phantasmagoric light, frightful in its beauty, that the rosy light of dawn vanishes, outshone by such white incandescence.
With the light there comes a mighty, harmonious, solemn rumble that fills the whole of creation with its roar. It comes from heavenly depths. It is the alleluia, the angelical glory that follows the Spirit of the Christ, which is returning to His glorious Flesh.
The meteor clashes on the useless closure of the Sepulchre, tears it off, throws it on the ground and it strikes with terror and noise the guards placed as jailors of the Master of the Universe, producing with its return of the Earth a new earthquake, as it had caused one when this Spirit of the Lord fled from the Earth. It enters the dark Sepulchre that becomes all bright with its indescribable light and while it remains suspended in the still air, the Spirit is infused again into the Body motionless under the funeral bandages.
The <I want> of the divine Spirit to its cold Body is noiseless. It is uttered by the Essence to the immobile Matter. But no word is perceived by the human ear. The Flesh receives the order and obeys it with a deep sigh…..Nothing else for some minutes.
Under the Sudarium and the Shroud, the glorious Body is recomposed in eternal beauty; it awakes from the sleep of death, it comes back from the <nothing> in which it was, it lives after being dead.
Another moment and there is a sudden movement under the heavy Shroud. It is so sudden that, from the moment He certainly moves His folded arms to the moment He appears standing, imposing, splendid in His garment of immaterial matter, supernaturally handsome and majestic with a gravity that changes and elevates Him, and yet leaves Him exactly Himself, the eye has hardly time to follow the development. And now it admires Him; so different from what the mind remembers, tidied up, without wounds or blood, only blazing with the light that gushes from the five wounds and issues from every pore of His skin.
When He takes His first step – and in the movement the rays emanating from His Hands and Feet halo Him with beams of light; from His Head haloed with a garland, made with the countless little wounds of the crown, but they no longer bleed but only shine, to the hem of His tunic, when opening His arms, that were folded across His chest, he uncovers the zone of very bright luminosity that filters through his tunic inflaming it like a sun at the height of His Heart – then it is really the <Light> that has taken a body. Not the poor light of the Earth, not the poor light of the stars, not the poor light of the sun. But the light of God; all the heavenly brightness that gathers in one Being and grants Him it’s inconceivable azure as eyes, its golden fire as hair, its angelic whiteness as garment and complexion and all that exists, but cannot be described by human words, the super eminent ardour of the Most Holy Trinity, that outshines with its ardent power every fire in Paradise, absorbing Him in Itself to generate Him again at each moment of the eternal Time, Heart of Heaven that attracts and spreads His blood, the countless drops of His incorporeal blood; the blessed souls, the angels, everything there is the Paradise; the love of God, the love for God, all this in the Light that is, that forms the Risen Christ.

DC Vouchers Terminated
Sun, 04/12/2009 - 10:40 ET by slickwillie2001This just makes me furious; our Asshat President can blow through trillions and arrogantly snicker that 'spending is what stimulus is all about' but now they have terminated DC vouchers before Congressional hearings on the program. Better to spend money on dog tracks and snail studies and pig dung research than to help kids in DC get a decent education. The Bamster is just a cheap whore to the unions.

Obama Losing Popularity
Sun, 04/12/2009 - 11:13 ET by Gat New YorkWhat is going unreported has been the decline of Obama's popularity.
According to Rasmussen Obama Strong Approve/Strongly Disapprove has gone from 44%/16% on the day he was inaugurated to 34%/32% today.
His overall job approval/disappoval has gone from 65%/30% to 55%/44%.
This trend will continue as people get to know how poorly he is doing in foreign policy, his push for immigration amnesty (not popular with union workers), and as taxes go up.

Yes, the MSM is going to
Mon, 04/13/2009 - 09:34 ET by dscottYes, the MSM is going to make him look good anyway he chooses, however, consider the huge inconsistency he just created by so easily signing off on the kill order (twice). Obama's rise to power was via the ANTI-WAR movement, a movement that essentially believes violence and killing people are NEVER the answer to any problem. We know a certain segment was just pure Democrat politics who chose the anti-war position just because it was against W, however the rest of them would rather choose the European way in dealing with the pirates - pay them off. Obama clearly doesn't hold the opinion of the latter so we must conclude he LIED about his anti-war position, he used it as a convenent vehicle to get what he wanted.
What this says about Obama is he does believe taking life is acceptable (contrary to the Anti-War movement) IF it advances HIS agenda. It's not the idea of a government defending it's people here with Obama, it's Obama sanctioning the killing to defend HIS credibility in world affairs and HIS credibility as President. If you appreciate what I'm saying, you'll realize Barack Obama is an extremely dangerous man because he possesses no conscience at all (psychopath). Remember, this is the guy who not only supports abortion but supports killing a child who survived a botched abortion attempt, this man has no empathy.

Capt Phillips Rescued
Sun, 04/12/2009 - 16:13 ET by ThisnThatbut, investigations on the "alleged" surviving pirate are on-going. Justice Department spokesman Dean Boyd said prosecutors were looking at "evidence and other issues" to determine whether to bring a case in the United States. How much do you think that will cost us taxpayers? We'll need to provide a public defendent. And at least one interpreter. Plus, we'll have to consider Shiria laws -- Muslim, don't you know. This thing will drag out for years, and we'll end up apologizing, I'll bet.
Here's what Obama said: "the United States needs help from other countries to deal with the threat of piracy and to hold pirates accountable". Notice he hasn't condemned the pirates. Instead, this statement legitimizes piracy by saying the pirates have to be accountable. Accountable? Are there bad pirates and good pirates? If you pirate without harming anyone or taking anyone hostage, is that ok -- or at least better? What a stupid dope Obama is.
Finally, please note what the surviving pirate told the AP: "helicopters continue to fly over their heads in the daylight and in the night they are under the focus of a spotlight from a warship." Anyone want to bet this is going to be labeled torture during the trial?

It will take--
Sun, 04/12/2009 - 16:23 ET by misterbillIt will take-- ten years to get to trial. In the meantime our asinine state dept will probably bring his family over and provide them with food, shelter and health care. At the end of the tenth year--the pirate will be freed because SCOTUS does not want to separate families. Then they will let him stay here because his wife gave birth shortly after arriving here thus--an anchor baby.
The pirate will then get a job with ACORN getting ready for the next census. He will also become an advocate for in-state tuition for the children of pirates. He and his wife will work with the US Dept of Education to allow the slaughter of goats on school property for religious reasons. At that time any religion save Christainity will be allowed to practice at school. \
We will be accused of being racist and a xenophobic because we do not agree.
One exception--he will be barred from owning a rowboat.
TnT....your whole comment
Sun, 04/12/2009 - 19:56 ET by motherbeltTnT....your whole comment is dead on target.
Even in condemning an act of piracy, our President appears to be bending over backward to not say anything that might offend the pirates or anyone else!
And as I said below, a huge deal is being made about the fact that he approved the attack!
Wow! We're supposed to be impressed because he did his job!!

MB, He may have approved
Sun, 04/12/2009 - 20:50 ET by ThisnThatMB,
He may have approved this attack -- but what the MSM is hiding is the fact that he did not approve an attack the first night of the pirating, when the Captain jumped into the water. That was the chance to attack -- and Obama did nothing. Where's the MSM on that point?

Prisoner
Mon, 04/13/2009 - 01:24 ET by DustBunny01What POTUS can not deny is that he now has a prisoner taken under his authority.
He can't push this one off on former Pres. Bush. This prisoner is his and his alone. Taken on the high seas and away from those fields of operation in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Everything that happens to this prisoner falls directly onto his administration without any way to shift the blame. If this prisoner is put into standard federal lock up, and is harmed, it falls onto "The One". If POTUS put him into Gitmo, then what is the point of closing it?
The issues of constitutional rights dispensed to a pirate combined with the issue of bail {Is a pirate entitled to bail} now surface?
If the pirate is dumped onto another country, it remains POTUS' problem due to his continuaiton of extreme rendition from the Bush Admin.
This will be a very interesting problem to watch as it progresses in the years ahead.

Love
Sun, 04/12/2009 - 15:27 ET by misterbillWhen I look o'er my shoulder At the long road of life
That these feet have taken meThru happiness and strife
The sweetest of moments That with me will stay
Is when I met my sweetheart T'was the most special day
But the years have flown by us And now we are old
Yet our hearts are still warm Tho our bodies are old
Now I look in her face, Oh, what do I see?
I see the young girl, That, thank God, chose me.
The road has not ended, There's still miles to go
There are still lots of things, That I want to know
But if I can walk them With her by my side
Then I surely can say I shall never have died
For love has no timeline, No measurable years
It’s measured in feelings In tears and in cheers
It lives in the air, It lives in your heart
T’was given by God, At life’s very start
So just as our Savior, Through his rebirth
Gave us to love, Right here on earth
Rejoice and rekindle, The seeds of your love
For remember my friends, ‘Tis a gift from above
And when this life is over, and your spirit doth lift
You will join with Him, who gave you this gift
So give praise to Jesus, And the price He did pay
And the love that He gave us To show us the way.
Happy Easter
Congrats to our Navy Easter
Sun, 04/12/2009 - 15:33 ET by eaglewingz08Congrats to our Navy Easter Seals and Marines and their spectacular rescue of Capt. Phillips. Congrats to Capt. Phillips for again diving overboard and giving the rescuers a chance to make target practice out of three terrorists and capturing the fourth. The fourth terrorist should be immediately flown to Saudi Arabia and whipped within an inch of his life, before his hands and feet are amputated and he is then beheaded.
And the most appropriate scene from the Princess Bride, as to what to do to the remaining terrorist a/k/a pirate:

Naw, that wasn't a mistake. Leave one Skinny alive, so he can go back and re-tell the spine-tingling tale to his fellow pirates of a crack U.S. Navy Seal Team coming for you after sunset in pitch black, shark infested water's.
Mission accomplished if you ask me.

The final round of the Masters will go down as one of the more memorable ones.
And congrats to theUnited States Navy for rescuing Captain Phillips and for arranging for three of theMuslim pirate bastards to meet Allah.
Too bad the fourth one didn't go with them.
Let's hope the Navy will be turned loose to send as many of the remaining Muslim pirates straight to Hell as well, or we are going to be seeing these things happening even more.
Captain Phillips was fortunate. The next guy might not be.

This coup has gone on long enough. The time to put it down is NOW.

The Vet stands corrected! The Vet is humbled.
Sun, 04/12/2009 - 21:41 ET by JWFTurns out one of the pirates did not get away. He had turned himself in. He used the ruse that he was going to negotiate and turned himself in.
The other 3 had a hole put in 'em. Three pirates on a raft. 3 head shots!
The Vet is most duly impressed.
Three head shots on a raft bobbing around in the Indian Ocean. From a ship that itself was bobbing around not necessarily in sync with the raft.

Sun, 04/12/2009 - 21:50 ET by bigtimerFrom what I understand we were towing that lifeboat from the ship...
You had better believe the msm/leftists/lawyers and Human Rights Groups are all going to be screaming bloody murder before the weeks end, on and on it will go.
Plus the terrorist we have in custody from what I understand so far wanted to not go back to the lifeboat...he was supposedly a negotiator for their lives at this point...more may be coming out soon, but you can be sure like I posted somewhere earlier the msm will be repeating what I already heard from msnbc and their tripe, it was the poor uneducated fellas they knew know better, just had to make a living to survive somehow ...blah blah blah...

Seems that in general
Mon, 04/13/2009 - 14:14 ET by RR GOPSeems that in general companies do the best when they're still at least guided by the original founder of the company...you know, the guy's whose dream the business was, their baby, their life's work, took the risks, poured in their blood sweat and tears, etc.
Then he retires or dies and his idiot son(s) take over and piss it all away. Either/and they hire bean counters with MBAs who never built up any company (shout out to Rodney Dangerfield in Back To School).
It's at that point the clock starts ticking...faster for some companies than others. This awe and reverence for old American companies are bull$hit because many are mere shadows of their former selves and their best years were decades ago.
Make room for the hungry young lions out there who have a talent for, or at least the drive and the smarts to learn from their mistakes, build up their own businesses to replace the dinosaurs.
One of the 34% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 61% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory (yep...approval for Congress now at 39%...do you believe that!?).
