President Obama's top economic adviser said that in the "next few months" the economy will no longer be in "free-fall" as the administration's fiscal stimulus measures and efforts to stabilize the financial markets take effect. The sense of a ball falling off a table, which is what the economy felt like since the middle of last fall, I think we can be reasonably confident that that's going to end in the next few months, and that you'll no longer have that sense of free-fall," Lawrence Summers said Thursday at that Economic Club of Washington.
Hmmm. In February and March as porkulus and the budget were being discussed, the world was close to coming to an end if we didn't spend a ghastly amount of money. Now, just weeks later, things are looking up? Maybe we should suspend ALL of the outlays that haven't yet been dispersed if that's the case?
Closing question -- Is this: wishful thinking and part of the administration's recent attempts to jawbone an economic recovery; exemplary of how disingenuous the "world is coming to an end if we don't mortgage our future" claims were, or; both?

I've always preffered Rush for his sense of humor and production values, and his parodies are superb. But "The Man" is Michael Savage. He's intelligent, learned, opinionated, and I can tell he really believes what he's saying. I very seldom disagree with him. Polititians and media are afraid of Savage because they know he's representing a deep seated resentment in average people of whom they might loose control. And hard working people have a right to be pissed off! If you like socialism or not depends on what side of the welfare check you're on, doesn't it. Remember: Border, Language, Culture.

Today it is Glenn Beck-- a few months ago it was Lou Dobbs. So--have yourself a ball--jump on the liberal bandwagon--denounce a Glenn Back for visual hyperbole. While you do it, the libs are drooling and thanking you for your efforts.
The only part of the civil war we are winning is the war on the radio waves. We are holding our own on TV too, with the likes of BOR, Dobbs, Beck and Hannity. We are losing in the MSM, but thanks to sites like this that expose them, we are beginning to see the lib rags lose subscribers and start to fail--However I have not seen any conservative entrepeneurs leaping in to fill the gap in printed news, The mags are all so bloody liberal, I am surprised they haven't all failed.
In the meantime, I stand for Beck, Dobbs, Svage, Reagan and any and all journalists of the right. (It doesn't mean that I like all their styles--I like their message.) I also trust the editors and journalists of NB to gat all over their butts if they stop telling the truth.
By the by--I have watched Beck, on and off for quite some time. He was a skeptic two year ago. He did not believe anyone was trying to globalize us or any of those issues. He deserves credit for an open mind and research.

It's also constructive for him when other conservatives let him know, for his own good, when he's getting a little too far out there. I think his heart's in the right place, but I find him a little too preachy and pleading sometimes. He has the right to be that way - and I have the right not to like it and say so.

Probably, assuming, that the Navy was also alert and watching for his escape, and if he could only put some distance between him and the pirates, the Navy would pounce on the pirates using "maximum force".
What the Captain failed to note, though, was that this wasn't Bush -- it was Obama. Like the Cole, the Navy's guns probably weren't loaded with ammo, lest someone gets hurt. And unlike Bush, Obama doesn't want the on-site commanders to make command decisions.
This whole thing has the potential to end up like Black Hawk down. Use minimal force; get the Navy out before it gets hurt; the hell with our citizens in danger. Obama really, really sucks.

How about some flash-bang grenades? How about some seals, going deep and coming up underneath or alongside the boat, so that when the Captain hit the water, they could respond? Seals could have spent hours in the water, just waiting and prepared to take action.
If I was in the Navy, on the Navy boat, you can bet your ass I would have kept the entire ship on maximum alert, ready for any eventuality. I would not have let that opportunity pass without trying something!
BTW, is the Navy harassing that boat? Are they making sure everyone on that boat stays awake, so they get no sleep at all, and are dead tired? I would hope so; but I wouldn't be surprised at all if Obama didn't order "8 hours of sleep for everyone", and "make sure no potential laws are broke", and "they have rights, you know". In fact, the Captain being held might be reprimanded for not being more considerate to the pirates.

1) The monetary expansion by the Fed was the right thing to do..credit destruction was occuring in the banking sector as corps needed less credit for a slowing economy .....this expansion ALWAYS causes a pick up in economic activity...
2) Even an economy that is running at 95% of last years levels runs short of inventory which must be replenished so the economy should get a bounce here..
3)I beleive the stock market is now rigged and this run up will continue...to what level I don't know...but I am long lots of calls in lots of stocks. I think that because of the so called bad behavior by participants in the credit swap and mortagage securization markets in past years..say from 2002 to 2006.....Major market participants ,ie hedge funds, investment banks...or anyone/any institution large who is on the radar screen of Tim (I don't pay no f-cking income taxes) Gaithner and BAM will not short any mkt in a big way....they will be called out and publically humiliated....this will carry the stk mkt some distance and higherr valuations will give a boost to the economy.....
but this is not a genuine recovery but a politically calculated recovery to show progress going into the 2010 elections...The creeps in the White House have their ducks all lined up in a row...I came to this conclusion on 4/2/2009 when I heard Cramer give his mea culpa speech at the end of the show....Sounded like he had just strolled out of a reeducation camp...Jack Welch is sounding much the same in recent weeks....
BAM doesn'r want a real recovery and he won't get it in the long run....there are a few things that could upset this scenario....international events...war ...terorist attack etc and one economic factor 1) the high levels of continuing unemployment..not the 600k who lose jobs each week but those who stay off the payroll of the private economy because of no job creation...this number is increasing....also tax collections could collapse real badly
This is how I see it... unlike Clinton and Reuben who had a cogent economic plan (even though we as conservatives did not like it) to help the private economy this current crew doesn't give a krap about the private economy.....they just want a boost for 2010..these guys are economic terrorists and sabateurs....

Between checking the net on this and listening to the radio news, I find myself becoming angry, pacing and raising my voice, passionately speaking of this with my oldest son who came by to see me, to be with someone who would be as disgusted as he is.
The littlest kids can see how angry I am, but they are not afraid. They came up to me while I was pacing and gave me hugs. But it is for them that I am angry; they understand that the anger is not for them.
To know that there is a Naval vessel, filled with Warriors who have to be even more frustrated and angry than me only makes Hillary's laughter that much more intolerable.

I also think that failing to take advantage of the Captain's temporary escape was irresponsible . I wonder WHO gave the orders that kept the Navy from responding.
There is a greater danger, long term, of allowing terrorists and criminals to think that they will not be met with force. Along with that, is the societal programming to make us "do what the man with he gun/box cutter tells us." This has not served us very well, as a nation. But the leftists keep pushing it.
For the American Navy to not be allowed to deal, professionally, with a rowboat and a hand full of pirates is a dangerous, long term policy.
To give an unworthy enemy an equivalent status by negotiating is to undermine your own credibility.
Seeing as how this Captain got the guys off his boat and has tried to free himself, might we not wonder how he feels about not being rescued yet? What might he think of the idea of being taken to Somalia, trusting in the goodness of his PIRATE/CRIMINAL/TERRORIST captors to just let him go once we cough up some dough? Should anyone who feels they have need, be allowed to commit aa crime for a nice big, guaranteed, pusillanimous payoff, just so no one gets hurt? Life is dangerous; no one gets out alive. Do we die on our knees, or do we die trying?
Do we want to continue this "successful business model?"
On balance, the Captain's best chance for survival is for quick, professional action to be taken. To do other is to put his life in the hands of a people already shown to be lacking in morals, ethics and basic human decency.

The reason for the current market run up has to do with the HOPE that "mark to market" will be significantly modified (change) to only mark down those assets that are actually in default. If the SEC does not follow through and do this, the market will get a dose of reality and tank. We need to be clear about this, if the banks can not lend due to restrictive accounting rules then there can't be any expansion by companies to invest. No expansion means no more capital goods orders. Inventory levels are dropping because few are "restocking", again that doesn't keep people in jobs in the manufacturing sector.
I will repeat again, if there is no job creation unemployment is going to go up by sheer demographics. We are looking at 11% unemployment by July, IF there is no job creation. While the numbers of people filing for unemployment has leveled off at a high level it only means it is not accelerating, this does not employ new people coming into the work force come May and June of high school and college graduates. Demographics is the reason why unemployment is a lagging indicator on the economic upswing. It's not the same reason on the downswing which has to do with cutting overtime and new hires or replacement hires, there are two different reasons for the lagging of unemployment.

But, I don't want to miss Gary Player or Fuzzy Zoeller when they walk up to the 18th green. Both are calling this their last round of competative golf. I hope they will ask Gary Player to come back as an honorary starter. He sure looks good for 73 years of age.
I always believed that Fuzzy got a bad rap from the PC crowd over comments he made about Tiger's first victory. If you don't remember he said that at next year's champion's banquet they'd probably serve fired chicken or something like that.
My man Jim Furyk is struggling somewhat. If Phil does pick it up he may be watching the rest of the tournament behind the ropes. I really don't think that the two, Chad Campbell or Kenny Perry, that are on top will be there come Sunday about 7 o'clock.
I just looked at the radar and it appears there is some wicked looking storms on the way. They may not get the second round finished today.
