Sunday Sports Open Thread

Well, sports fans, at least we had some excitement last night after mostly boring blowouts throughout the afternoon.

What a fabulous finish between W. Kentucky and Gonzaga regardless of the missed TO call. Purdue-Washington was a real pleasure, as was Duke-Texas.

What's in store today?

  • 5:20 PM ET (9) Siena vs. (1) Louisville
  • 2:50 PM ET (8) Oklahoma State vs. (1) Pittsburgh
  • 5:00 PM ET (10) USC vs. (2) Michigan State
  • 4:50 PM ET (6) Marquette vs. (3) Missouri
  • 2:30 PM ET (11) Dayton vs. (3) Kansas
  • 12:10 PM ET (6) Arizona State vs. (3) Syracuse
  • 2:20 PM ET (12) Wisconsin vs. (4) Xavier
  • 2:40 PM ET (13) Cleveland State vs. (12) Arizona

Race fans have to be excited about Bristol today.

On to basketball, two teams in the Eastern Conference are currently playoff bound -- with sub-.500 record? Also, is this LeBron's year?

Looks like some fabulous battles ahead for the top playoff spots in the NHL.

Anything else?

I breathed a sigh of relief

I breathed a sigh of relief when the Heels started to put away LSU. If it wasn't for Ty Lawson's heroics in the second half they'd probably been headed back down I-40 to Chapel Hill with their heads down. Now it is west on I-40 to Memphis and a meeting with Gonzaga. Will Cleveland State be this year's Cinderella? I think they are the only team left that could be considered for that.

One loss is good for the soul. Too many losses is not good for the coach. Knute Rockne

"I breathed a sigh of

"I breathed a sigh of relief" . . .

when Duke managed to hold on to beat Texas.

Expect at least few upsets today.

BRISTOL!!!!

WOO-HOOO!!!!!!

The only thing that sucks is sitting through the crappy pre-race show.

Whoever was the idiot that thought of that needs to be forced to watch Nanci Pelosi shower...IN 3-D!!!!!

HC

HC,

BTW: I'm not much of a racing fan, and can miss these events. As such, if you want to send me a PM or EM on Friday nights or early Saturday morning as to what's happening in this sport, please do. ns

COOL!

Kenny Hasbrouck

NBers,

Did everybody see that fabulous story CBS just did on Siena's Kenny Hasbrouck?  ns

Go Zags!

Go Zags!

I hope the Zags do a repeat

I hope the Zags do a repeat of when they played NC 3 years ago and smoke them again. That had to be the best game of the whole tourney so far. I was mad as hell that they let them tie it up and when Goodson made that score my whole family was screaming so loud the neighbors could hear us.

jic.... So were we

jic....

So were we screaming here...I bet it is was each other we heard!

Zips/Zags game had me worried during the first half too.

Goodson has a long way to go...he is going to be enjoyable to watch for a few years to come.

Well....good luck to the Zags...nice to know there is another Zag fan here.

Pitt survives, advances to

Pitt survives, advances to the Sweet Sixteen, where they CHOKE every frickin year! Okie St. played a great game today! Now Pitt gets to face Cincy's Xavier U., who is coached by Pitt's greatest point guard ever, the pride of Ellwood City!

Ellwood City.................

Rog I was sure startled to see your reference to Ellwood.....I grew up there and still live in the area. I remember Sean Miller when he was playing for his father at Blackhawk High. Small world.....didn't expect an NBer to know of little ole Ellwood!

Speaking of the pride of Ellwood City, how about Donnie Iris?

I thought I would be "too

I thought I would be "too cool for the room" if I brought up King Cool :)

Grew up a huge Dahnnie Iris fan, too!

There's a couple Pittsburghers here at NB... You are not alone!

King Cool

King Cool he is. I'm also a huge fan but I'm kinda prejudiced since he is also my cuz!

Haven't been a NBer for very long.......just found the site last fall and started posting about 2 months ago, so I'm not real familiar with alot of the posters. I knew you were in Pa from one of your posts. Nice to know I've got neighbors here.

Btw,  your ShrubReport is pretty cool too.

G'nite all yinz Pittsburghers.
