For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Has Obama declared war on investors, entrepreneurs, and businesses?
Raising the marginal tax rate on successful earners, capital, dividends, and all the private funds is a function of Obama’s left-wing social vision, and a repudiation of his economic-recovery statements. Ditto for his sweeping government-planning-and-spending program, which will wind up raising federal outlays as a share of GDP to at least 30 percent, if not more, over the next 10 years.

Warren Buffet must be pleased
Sat, 02/28/2009 - 10:24 ET by allanfI can't help but thinking how pleased Warren Buffet must be. He was aching to pay more taxes. In Manhattan Obama received 490,634 votes and McCain received 79,448. That means our Wall Street crowd voted overwhelmingly for Obama. They should also be pleased. It is not as if Obama hid what he was going to do.
You got what you voted for.

Yes, after this is all over
Sat, 02/28/2009 - 11:26 ET by ApacheYes, after this is all over it will be interesting to see who exactly profited from this Obamanation. I think all the projecting from the liberal political 'elite' about Bush and "war profits" etc. was just insight into how they would operate once in power. Granted there have been some big hits but the market seems artificially low and Obama seems to want to push it lower. So I’d like to ask if these Obama supporters knew when to get out and plan to get back in around 6000. Call it a conspiracy but when every word out of Washington seems wrong to an idiotic level and the democrats key constituents don't follow the market anyway, it may not be that far off. We have a president now who seems ready and willing to sell America out for his buddies.
Not all Manhattan
Sat, 02/28/2009 - 12:03 ET by Kingfish17All of Manhattan isn't made up of Wall Street. A lot of people who work, (maybe a better word is worked), on Wall Street come from Jersey, CT, or "upstate". Wall Street is probably more conservative then most of Manhattan.
That being said, I bet a lot of people who worked on Wall Street did vote for BHO and yes, I think these will be the first people who become disenchanted.
I believe that if the election where held today BHO would be a big loser.

Meanwhile, when Bush was in office, the same 4-6 jackxsses do an "Iraq War Protest" every Friday (continuously since US troops entered Iraq) on the side of NJ State Highway Route 23. This is ignored by all the people driving by. Still gets reported in our local papers as if anyone cared.

Sat, 02/28/2009 - 11:00 ET by sherylsimsThat is SO true! I was there. I am sure at some points there were at least 300 people assembled on both sides of the street and on the grassy island in the middle of the street. For petes sake, even the BOATS in the harbor were blowing their air horns and waving banners. EVERY car that drove through acknowledged in some positive way the group there. (There were a couple who weren't positive, but honestly not many). I guess you have to be rioting or fighting or having an obscene parade or acting like a complete jackass to get the news to think it is news worthy. When we got home and watched the news for it, there was less than one minute with two little clips from the rally and no explanation of why the people were gathered~ nothing. I am not surprised at all, just stating the sad but true facts.

State vs Church
Sat, 02/28/2009 - 12:18 ET by Kingfish17Blanket oversimplification coming:
I believe that as a rule, liberals think of their taxes, (when they actually pay them), as a form of charity. They hate it that church going conservatives get a deduction for giving their money to something other then the government.
I also wonder if these charitable contribution changes are going to affect the big foundations set up to avoid paying taxes by the likes of Buffet and Bill Gates. It probably means that they will just have to pay more attorneys to come up with cleverer ways to avoid paying their taxes.

I Know How to Spend Your Money Better Than You Do
Sat, 02/28/2009 - 10:52 ET by dboJohn Kerry (D-Taxachusetts) had a column yesterday over at Huffington Rag. No, he is not publicly releasing his military records or talking about what he ate for Christmas dinner in 1968, but he is challenging George Will to a debate on global warming. Complete with all the usual ad hominem attacks.
I want to see that one.
Sat, 02/28/2009 - 12:28 ET by pbthinkerI hope George Will accepts that challenge. I would pay to see that one since, as you can tell by what Kerry wrote, he's a prime target for liar of the year. I was struck by this comment:
" No matter how the evidence has mounted over two decades -- the melting of the arctic ice cap, rising sea levels, extreme weather -- the flat earth caucus can't even see what is on the horizon."
The irony of that statement is that none of it is true and demonstrably so. The arctic ice cap isn't melting, sea levels aren't rising, at least to the degree that they should worry us, and what "extreme" weather is he talking about?
I'd like to see Kerry and Al Gore go out and debate this issue and then let George Will pick one more person for his side (there are over 31,000 to chose from) and see who wins. Perhaps they can do that before Congress passes cap and trade, although I'm sure they'll never let that happen since they will lose big time.

The job is not done
Sat, 02/28/2009 - 11:01 ET by ricklailI sent this letter to the editor of our local paper this AM.
When Bush stood on the USS Lincoln and declared “Mission Accomplished” he was laughed at and drug through the dirt by the left and the mainstream media. Dear Leader stood in front of a crowd of Marines and sailors at Camp Lejeune and stated “You got the job done!”
When I worked for the power company traveling from plant to plant performing maintenance when our job was done we packed the tools in our crew trailer and called to have it moved to the next job.
If the job is done why are we going to stay there indefinitely? If combat operations don’t end until August 31, 2010 then the job is not done. If you leave a contingent of troops to protect our interest the job is not done. The job is done when they pack their equipment and they and their gear are home. Many of those Marines and sailors who heard this speech will be going back to Iraq. Are those words going to ring in their heads as IUDs are exploding around them?
The same lefties and media are still around that laughed and just utterly tried to destroy a good man over his words. Where are they now that Dear Leader has said “You got the job done?” I am not going to hold my breath until Dear Leader is held to the same accountability as Bush was.

All week NBC has been spouting how they are going to follow Tiger Woods through the final 2 days of the Accenture Match Play. Well HA HA HA. Tiger along with the other 3 top ranked players in the world are not there. I hope they lose their pants over this. Tiger is a great player but there are others out there that are trying just as hard, if not harder than him, to win a golf tournament. Mickelson just lost so the top 5 players in the world will not be there. I hope they lose so much that they have to move money from the news side to cover the sports side loss that they have to shut down PMSNBC!

Rahm Emanuel
Sat, 02/28/2009 - 12:18 ET by pbthinkerThis looks like to sort of plan Rahm Emanuel would come up with. We just had an election so get everything you can now and it will all work out before the next election. If you lose some seats, which history shows you will, you already have everything you wanted to accomplish.
I'm betting that they believe Obama is so popular, and the media so compliant, nothing will affect him personally and he can win a second term. If he doesn't win a second term, he will have already accomplished his goal. I'm sure they have a plan where, if the country tanks, they can blame it on someone else, they'll never take responsibility.
This just looks like the strategy of a man who would thumb his nose at you.

Remember this term: political business cycle
Sat, 02/28/2009 - 12:36 ET by Joe C.As I have stated several times, what the Democrats have done since essentially taking control in Nov’ 06 is economic terrorism. Schumer’s IndyMac statement was a “dry run” not unlike the Islamofascist’s pre-9/11 capers. We are dealing with ultraleftist goon squads in government. The sooner we recognize it, and call them what they are, the better off we and the country be.
What they are engaging in now is classic political business cycle behavior. the Obamunists spending fiasco and policies are design to ride the economy’s natural recession-recovery cycle to the 2010 midterm elections. They will take credit for any improvement as proof of their policies, although few will have been implemented. That is why most of their spending and tax increases occur in 2011. These deleterious effects then will be felt, but it will be too late as they will have 2 more years to make a full socialist transformation of America. The term “political business cycle” must be burned into the minds of every voter so as to preempt this strategy.
I am not convinced that B. Hussein even expects (or wants) a second term. His legacy of Marxism will have been achieved. When he loses, he will be hailed as a martyr by the Left; and his visage will hang next
to Marx, Lenin, and Stalin in their hall of fame.
Kudlow Bang-On
Sat, 02/28/2009 - 12:26 ET by slickwillie2001Kudlow is bang on. The hedge-fund managers (does this include Chelsea Clinton?) are really going to get killed by Obammy, maybe justifiably. I would like to be standing there when they cut their next check to the IRS to ask 'what were you thinking?'. The investor class is about to learn a painful lesson.
Those that look at the change from 35 to 39% and don't think that's much of a change haven't looked any deeper. It's much worse than that if you look at the rolloffs of deductibility. And very cleverly the democratics have devised a way to tax us all indirectly through their 'Carbon Tax' abomination. Something close to this piece of garbage was voted down 95-0 in the Senate in 1997. What has changed, other than the planet is now cooling?
Obama our petulant punk president.
Sat, 02/28/2009 - 12:39 ET by CTQuite literally a petulant punk, look it up. Never in my adult life have I seen a more alarming, arrogant, egomaniacal, dictatorial asshat excuse for a president. He has used the ‘I’ word more than the last ten presidents combined; I will, I wont, I’m not, I inherited, it’s amazing to hear.
Today Obama declared war on America again when he said I know my budget proposal will be opposed by “special interests”, I will fight them. Obama once again demonstrates that he has no interest in governing only dictating. If you disagree with Obama you are wrong and will be fought, your opinion has no merit and does not need to be heard.
Just how long will America allow this over-reaching fear monger spend our future for his socialist utopia?
Just what in Obama’s résumé leads anyone to believe he knows what he is talking about?

If a conservative did this kind of stuff, there would be ominous talk of 'chill winds' and 'fascism' all over the liberal media. Because we have a liberal 'President', it's called the 'new tone', and 'post-partisan'. All it is, is old-style corrupt Chicago machine politics.
Has Obama declared war on investors, entrepreneurs...?
Sat, 02/28/2009 - 13:28 ET by lgeubankOne thing he's doing for sure is carrying forward the government's policy of affirmative action in mortgage lending.
Remember, the reason Congress forced banks to lend to "poor, disadvantaged, non-traditional" applicants for home loans, was actually affirmative action. They wanted to give things to blacks that white people have to work for or merit by objective standards (my definition of affirmative action).
So bailing out "poor, disadvantaged, non-traditional" borrowers, was just more affirmative action, piled on top of giving them the loans in the first place. The goal is not sound economics, or equal opportunity, or anything except "making sure blacks have as much as whites, by any means possible."
Giving "tax cuts" that are actually additional welfare payments to people who don't pay taxes, is another method to achieve this aim. The gummint will probably want a million more "community organizers," diversity-experts, white-haranguers, and people to run "programs for community relations, neighborhood outreach, volunteer recruitment, staff diversity and minority contracting," like Michelle Obama.
In other words, appeasement of blacks by stuffing them with money is accelerating exponentially with the hugely ruinous stimulus package. It may drive us into national bankruptcy and allow the Chinese to foreclose on our country, but at least blacks will be appeased and enriched.

Mortgage interest deduction
Sat, 02/28/2009 - 13:36 ET by ThisnThatMortgage interest deduction changes will kill the housing industry. Obama's plan to cut the deductions people take on their mortgages is just another of the dumbest things obama is doing. Unlike democrats, people like myself actually try to plan our lives. And we buy houses (and other things) based upon a lot of factors -- including the ability to deduct mortgage interest.
Obama's plan to cut this affects the plans I put together when I bought my house years ago. What makes him think this stuff is only for the rich? What an ass.

Sat, 02/28/2009 - 19:12 ET by RD KingWhile in southern Illonois last year for Thanksgiving holiday I noticed a truck at the turkey fry I always attend with a bumper sticker that read; America needs a douche get rid of Bush and I thought what a sorry piece of s**t to not appreciate the fact that GW had at least kept him and his family safe for the last 7 years. In the spirit of the holiday I did not inform this jerk that he like osama obama was and is a piece of s**t and as un- American as they come.
Now all I can say is I want my sticker that states that America needs a douche get rid of the muslim osama obama. And I mean by impeachment, ousting, recalling or just whatever it takes to rid of the poisonous leper commie usurper not in chief.
Good Old Days

Sat, 02/28/2009 - 19:53 ET by ricklailCan you believe what the Patriots did? They traded Matt Cassell and Mike Grabel to the Chiefs for a SECOND round draft pick. Cassell alone should have been worth a first rounder. He was a rookie starting QB that almost lead his team to the playoffs. Now that is the deal of the year so far.
What about the Deadskins giving Haynesworth 100 million over 7 years.

Kudlow Understates
Sat, 02/28/2009 - 22:20 ET by Gat New YorkAlthough it is true that his economic policies are driving down the market, I do not believe his intent is to become Reagan and look for greater prosperity.Obama is a socialist (not liberal). Period.
There is nothing in his life that does not point to a man who was mentored at an early age to adopt radical socialist beliefsObama was in Hawaii from 1971-1979, where, at some point in time, he developed a close relationship with Franklin Marshall Davis, a well known Black communist. He was introduced to him by his grandfather who shared the same beliefs as Davis. Davis treated Obama almost like a son and provided advice on his career path. In his book, Dreams From My Father, Obama refers to him repeatedly as just “Frank.”In his books, Obama admits attending “socialist conferences” and coming into contact with Marxist literature. Through Frank Marshall Davis, Obama had an admitted relationship with someone who was publicly identified as a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA).
While there is no evidence that Obama was a bright student, the questions surrounding his years at Columbia, where he transferred from Occidental College, leave a lot of suspicion about who he associated with and what courses he took.
Barack Obama had just graduated from Columbia and was looking for a job. Some white leftists were looking for someone who could recruit in a black neighborhood in the south side of Chicago. Obama answered a help-wanted ad for a position as a community organizer for the Developing Communities Project of the Calumet Community Religious Conference (CCRC) in Chicago. Both the CCRC and the DCP were built on the well known socialist Saul Alinsky model of community agitation, wherein paid organizers learned how to “rub raw the sores of discontent,” in Alinsky’s words.
To complete his education and mentoring for a political future Obama needed a law degree from a prestigious law school. It was former Manhattan Borough president Percy Sutton who told a New York cable channel that a former business partner who was “raising money” for Obama had approached him in 1988 to help Obama get into Harvard Law School. In the interview, Sutton says he first heard of Obama about twenty years ago from Khalid Al-Mansour, a Black Muslim and Black Nationalist who was a “mentor” to the founders of the Black Panther party at the time the party was founded in the early 1960s.
It is apparent that Obama’s life was a socialist mentoring that has led to this moment.
Obama’s only interest is to take advantage of the current economic crisis as well as Democratic majority to force through a socialist revolution and use as much debt as possible to enact these changes.
How is he doing this. Just go back to what the agitator’s job, according to Alinsky, is:
Listen to every one of Obama’s speeches and it will carry the education he received from Alinsky.
Obama is not stupid. He has a mission. Only Joe The Plumber confronted him head on with it.
To be repeated by all conservative speakers and writers...

"When will Barack Husein Obama apologize for destroying our nation's economy?"
