For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Inauguration Day.
What are your final thoughts for George W. Bush? What are the high points of his administration, and the low points? How will history eventually view the man as well as his presidency?
As for our new president, what are your thoughts today? Do you wish him the best and hope things are much better four years from now, or do you want him to fail so that Republicans can take back Congress and the White House as soon as possible?

January 20, 2009 - 10:10 ET by billbI posted an observation a few weeks ago about body language at the ceremonial greeting of the new president by the out going president at the White House on inauguration day. My observation was correct. When Clinton welcomed GWB to the Whitehouse in 2001, he made it a point to stand at the very edge of the top step, forcing Bush to stand one step lower so that image showed Clinton looking DOWN at Bush. This morning as I suspected, Bush welcomed Obama by standing a few steps back, allowing both men to shake hands on the same level. With the Clintons, it's all about image, even if it stinks. With the Bush's, it's all about class!

January 20, 2009 - 10:20 ET by GothampcI think George W. Bush was a great example of grace under fire. Over the last eight years, liberals and Rinos have called him the most vile of names and actively worked against him. Was he perfect? No. I wish he had communicated more effectively. He seemed to let some things go too easily (for example, Social Security privitization). But I think he was what we needed to face terrorism.
I don't wish Barack Obama failure, but he doesn't inspire confidence. Mrs. Biden letting it slip that her husband was offered both VP and SOS tells me that Obama is not thinking about experience in his cabinet choices. I think the next four years are going to be a bumpy ride.

Chalk it up to a combination of Obama's appeal (multi-leveled), the drawn out Bush legacy, and the current national and global crisis we are facing. Call it the Perfect Storm if you will. But you can't ignore the renewed interest in politics and the overall feeling of hope that the new president is generating across the globe. When have any of us seen something like this?
Yet the myopic minority still insist on bi-partisan muck throwing instead of celebrating the new and an opportunity for change for the better of us all.
Is it lost that Monday was MLK Day and today we celebrate our new president who happens to be a biracial man whose father is African. Two landmark men in US History. And today is a landmark moment as well. Try embracing the moment for what it is.

Thank you and God bless you, President Bush...
January 20, 2009 - 13:48 ET by PrairieSkyI have enormous respect for President Bush and what he has accomplished during the last eight years. Love him or hate him, President Bush has kept us all safe for the last 7+ years, and I have been able to sleep soundly at night knowing that. He has withstood vicious and vitriolic lambasting from the beginning of his presidency, and unfortunately, this will likely continue even now that he has left office.
But during all of this, President Bush has never sunk to the depths of his detractors. He is a man of honor, integrity, and strong principles and convictions, from which he has never waivered. President Bush has always followed his conscience and done what he has thought best for the country...His governance has never been led by the polls, unlike others before him.
Now that President Bush has left office and is returning to his beloved Texas, I wish him and Laura only the very best...They deserve it. They have both served our country proudly and with honor, and I wish them happiness and peace. God bless George and Laura Bush, and God bless America.
"...peace is the highest aspiration of the American People. We will negotiate for it, sacrifice for it, we will never surrender for it, now or ever." President Ronald Reagan~ January 20, 1981
Thank You President Bush
January 20, 2009 - 14:51 ET by JIMMY1660As GWB leaves, thank you for only one 9/11. as the left moves toward investigating GW and his staff, GW, sit in front of the Senate Hearing with the gloves off. No security clearance blocking the truth, tell us who knew what and when.
Low point would be, no communicating to the voters what was going on, after the left pointed fingers day after day. He should have defended his years in office and the staff backed to the hilt.
BHO-he voted present more than yes or no. How does that set an example for the Senate and Congress to take us forward. When this socialist takes more from me than i feel is appropriate i will go on welfare and look for handouts. i will never give my hard earned money to someone who has not earned it. homeless in Florida has a nice ring.
My America under siege. The USUSA-United Socialist United States of America

Obama handed first defeat?
January 20, 2009 - 15:18 ET by BlondeI certainly hope so...it's bad enough he's going to socialize the country....but I want him to keep his fat yap out of the BCS!!!!
Despite Obama criticism, changes to BCS system not likely in foreseeable future
May this be the first defeat of many of Obama's "policies" (although I actually agree that there should be a BCS playoff of some sort, I alm loathe to see the idiot pols force one down our throats).
Here you and I agree.
January 20, 2009 - 15:26 ET by balboaHere you and I agree. Politicians shouldn't dabble in the bowl system. I happen to think Athletic Directors and the conferences will never let a playoff replace the bowl system, though.
OMO! Bal & I agree
January 20, 2009 - 15:36 ET by BlondeToo much money involved.
Al Roker
January 20, 2009 - 16:45 ET by SeashellI was flipping around the channels and landed on NBC. If any of you are watching here, could Al Roker be any more obnoxious? Disgusting. Screaming out at Obama. Good grief!
G W Bush
January 20, 2009 - 17:12 ET by Edward CropperIt is hard to evaluate President Bush because of the complexity of the man. A
basic good man, with real feeling and decency.
He has to be given the credit for keeping our shores safe these last 7 years
and for that we should all be grateful.
He has a stubborn streak that will not allow him to bend at times he should
bend. He has greatly damaged the Republican party with the aide of a slew of
gutless Senators and Congress members.
His spending policies has allowed the DemocRats a great deal of latitude in
their socialists advancements.
His non combative demeanor has been mistaken as weakness and he has not done
anything to correct that image in the minds of many Americans.
He and his father have never been legitimate conservatives so it has been
difficult for him to govern as a small government President since that by nature
is not his cup of tea.
History will give him a better hand than he has been dealt by the deranged
liberal loons that permeate the news media.
I wish him and his family the very best and thank him sincerely for his
dedicated service to this country
