For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Sen. Caroline Kennedy.

DESPITE claims that he's still undecided, Gov. Paterson is "certain" to pick Caroline Kennedy to replace Hillary Rodham Clinton in the US Senate, several unhappy contenders for the job have told friends and associates in recent days.

If this is the case, why do you think Paterson will pick Kennedy? Is it because of her qualifications, her name, or her money? Before you answer, consider that many Democrats see her as a campaign fundraising dynamo, and that having her officially in the Party will attract enormous sums of money for future elections.

3) Some twits are still holding on to the whole Camelot myth. As the surviving direct descendant (that we know about) of JFK, it only adds to the romance of Camelot continuing for another generation.

The people of New York should be outraged that someone gets a Senate seat simply because she says she wants it.

At least HRC had to go through the motions of campaigning, and they actually had a say in it on election day.

This whole thing is beyond disgusting. I am completely losing faith in this whole system.

I listened to Mike Church's monologue this morning. He said he had 3 hours of clips just from interviews of Congresscriters and the Messiah's staff over the weekend. Boy am I behind. I need to start watching the Sunday talking heads shows.

The staff here does a good job of keeping us informed but there is so much crap on the networks, including Fox, that they can't possibly watch and report on all of it. I started to watch this clip from Fox News Sunday with Nazi Pelosi but I got sick in the first few minutes. She is pushing bipartisianship as a way of blaming the Republicans when it, especially TARP, goes all to hell. She really believes that there were not technological advances for the last eight years because of Bush. She is a worthless piece of crap in my opinion.

I am really wanting to see the interview of Emmanuel by David Gregory. Gregory ask some hard questions for a change at which Emmanule scoffed about why he ask that. Is this what we are in for for 4 years-not answering question that don't want to?

I think Paterson wanted to pick Andrew Cuomo. This would have enabled Paterson to run for Governor without a primary challenge from a high-profile Democrat. But David Paterson is the Governor of New York in name only. Schumer is essentially the Chief Executive of the State, and this Kennedy selection is designed to protect him in 2010. Should the next two years be disastrous, some Senate Democrats will be vulnerable to defeat. Harry Reid will almost certainly be the most vulnerable, as he's supposed to represent a relatively red state, but he really represents Moveon.org. He's a nasty piece of work and will have a huge target on his back in 2010 as the face of Democrat failure. Less likely to be vulnerable would be Chuckie-boy, but if New York descends much further in the next few months, he will need protection to ensure his re-election. Enter Caroline Kennedy. Schumer and Paterson will certainly not stimulate high turnout numbers...and if turnout is lower, a Republican could pluck one or both seats...but if Caroline is also running, the star-struck socialites will surely show up at the polls...and they'll vote (D) straight down the ticket, preserving Schumer's undeserved seat.

I agree with your statement that Paterson is Governor in name only. He was not elected to the office and therefore has no voter base of his own - which makes him very vulnerable to a primary challenge from Andrew Cuomo and many other New York Democrats who are not at all happy with this Caroline Kennedy annoinment.

Yes, the Kennedy's are the most financially powerful Democratic family in the country, BUT . . .

To put this in context, an election will be held in 2010 for the Hillary Senate seat, the Schumer Senate Seat, and for Governor.

If Paterson selects a weak Senator to replace Hillary, or if his selection is viewed as him being weak by caving into the Kennedys then not only will he be vulnerable but his decision could drag down the entire Democratic ticket.

Also, do not under-estimate the vindictiveness of Andew Cuomo particularly as it regards the Kennedy family. There is a lot of bad blood between him and his ex-wife as well as her brother Robert Kennedy Jr.

The polls in New York are significantly against Caroline, particularly after her awful performances.

Also regarding Paterson's personal run for election in two years, I said he has zero voter base and must be concerned about upstate New York perceptions as well as downstate working people's perceptions who see Caroline as an elite.

I would be very surprised to see Paterson appoint Caroline. If he does then will have ended his political future.

Basically, my theory is that Paterson is the sacrificial lamb in this morality play. I think it's been made clear to him that he has no say in the matter...that this is a call from over his head. This is about Schumer and Obama (and knowing Schumer's subversion in securing private credit reports and Obama's penchant for stealing the sealed divorce records of his opponents, what are the odds that they might exploit some negative information on Paterson from Experian or some unflattering allegations of Andrew Cuomo from his divorce?). Paterson has been neutered. He will choose Caroline because that's what Shmuckie wants, and he will just have to bite the bullet and risk a primary fight with Andrew Cuomo. Because what Schmuckie wants, Schmuckie gets.

He said he will appoint Caroline because he doesn’t want to piss off the Kennedys or Obama.

For him it is a lose/lose situation.

There is rapidly declining support for Caroline in polls among Democrats in NYS.

Dicker points out:

Meanwhile, several Democrats pointed to Paterson's already-declining public-opinion poll numbers to warn that selecting Kennedy could worsen his chances to be elected next year. "The polls show Kennedy is not who the public wants, and every upstate newspaper has come out against her," noted a longtime Democratic operative. "Picking Caroline could turn into a disaster for Paterson," he continued.

Selecting Caroline ironically would probably be a turning point for the GOP in New York State which has been in a steep decline for years.

In 2010 you will see a major split among Democrats in the primary for Governor and for Hillary’s seat and a huge opening for the GOP for both spots. In fact, Chuckie could have problems by then as well given that it will be Obama’s second year of what will be a disastrous Presidency.

Paterson will certainly pick Caroline Kennedy. After witnessing the giddy hysterical celebrations going on in the political world this week, Paterson is caught up in it. And he can't stand the thought of being out of the loop.

So Paterson will select Caroline Kennedy to help him stay in power. She is the portal, the gatekeeper. He can ride her velvet coattails right back into power.

Paterson would be her skycap, redcap, busboy, governor - anything to not be star-crossed.

Until the advent of our new Messiah, BHO, her (no longer) highness Hillary was the democratic superstar of fundraising. However, as SecState, no can do. Neither can Obama, on a large scale....but guess who can?

It matters not that the woman has an even thinner resume than our soon to be President. Nor that she stutters with the even more annoying "you know" rather than "uh, uh, uh"....nor that she does it more frequently (IOW....extremely inarticulate). She's a $$$ machine for the democrats, which as we know, equates to political power.

Blonde, I think this whole ordeal has proven just how powerless Paterson is. I like to call him "GINO" (as in Governor In Name Only), because it seems like his only purpose is to deliver bad news and worse ideas through the press. I'm convinced Schumer is running the State (into the ground) and is using his position as Chair of the Democrat Senatorial Election Committee to strongarm Paterson into picking Kennedy. Schumer may need Kennedy's fundraising power to help him in his own re-election bid...and that will ultimately trump Paterson's need to protect himself from a Cuomo primary challenge.

And keep an eye out for Chelsea Clinton in 2010. She will be 30 by the time the next election comes up...what are the chances that Caroline or Blago's pick are simply warming the seat for her to run for her mother's old seat or the seat in her mother's old state? Or, Holder resigns after 2010 Elections, Obama picks Durbin as his AG and Chelsea gets Durbin's seat. Eh? Eh? Eh?

There are a lot of Dems who are already calling for Chelsea to run for something.

I don't think Chelsea wants to follow in her parents footsteps.

She saw that they did not make much money for many years until after her father was out of office. Right now she is making good money and probably has ambitions in the career she has already chosen. She worked for McKinsey and now Avenue Capital. I would not be surprised if her aspirations were to be a corporate executive and not a politician.

She also knows how much privacy you lose when you enter politics.

I think she is too smart to go into politics.

Hil and Bill have both given interviews about how she is the best pol ot the three of them, she has a great political brain, that she is very interested in politics. I disagree. First of all, I think she's been a figurehead in the private sector. Her name and her connections make her a more valuable commodity than her abilities ever could do. I'm not suggesting that she isn't smart or capable. She may very well have ambitions to be a corporate executive, but the Clintons are a political family. She'll make money whether she's on Wall Street or Capitol Hill. She's a politician...it's in her blood. And she's been smart enough (with the assistance of her family, friends and the media) to keep her nose clean and her private life private. And what could be a greater ambition for Chelsea than to be the first female President of the United States? She'll be eligible in 2016 and will not have to face an incumbent Democrat...and her mother has already done the dry run, so she'll be better prepared to campaign having learned for her mother's mistakes. It may be far-fetched, but I wouldn't rule it out.

You're right about following the money. But how is the situation with the Senate seat in New York really so different than Blaggo selling the senate seat in Illinois? Paterson isn't really undecided - he is just holding out for the highest bidder! Blaggo was more obvious about it, sure, but it's basically the same thing. Paterson needs to wait to figure out who is going to help him the most with HIS aspirations, both politically and financially, before he makes a decision. And remember, until Hillary resigns, there IS NO SEAT!

Kennedy to the NY Senate to replace the wife of Bill Clinton. In Illinois, we had Senate candidate # 5 was the son of Jessie Hi-Jackson. In Delaware, the guy that was picked for Biden’s seat is said to be just a mere place holder so that Biden’s son can take the seat in the next go around. AND in Colorado, the brother of Ken Salazar is supposed to be the front runner to succeed him in the Senate.

RACINE, Wis. (AP) — Racine Mayor Gary Becker's plans to attend Tuesday's inauguration have been canceled after he was charged in an Internet sex sting.

Becker had planned to attend a U.S. Conference of Mayors event in Washington over the weekend and then stay for the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama.

But that was before he was arrested Tuesday night at a suburban Milwaukee shopping mall. Authorities said he went there to meet what he thought was a 14-year-old girl but actually was a state agent.

After I saw the first comment on this topic, I Googled Gary Becker and saw lots of news reports and NOT ONE mentioned his political affiliation. I ended up emailing friends on Racine to find out - although I was not at all surprised to see he's a Dem. Other posters are correct: If this guy had been a Republican they would not have printed his name without referring to him as REPUBLICAN Gary Becker. You would have thought REPUBLICAN was his first name!

I read this article by Joseph Farrar's, World Net Daily, on praying that Obama fails. I am kind of torn over this. I believe that God allowed him to be put into this place. Why I don't know but who am I to question God Almighty?

I have been praying that the weather in DC was going to be crummy which that may come to pass with snow and cold. That was mainly to let these idotic followers of the ONE see he is not Jesus. Jesus would had a perfect day. I see nothing wrong with that.

I did years ago pray that God would do something about Jim and Tammy Bakker bilking all those folks. Didn't see anything wrong with that.

I listened to a rebraodcast this weekend of Don Imus interviewing Howard Kurtz (okay, there was nothing else on). Imus asked Kurtz in his usual half hearted stab at a question from the right about the media being in the tank for Obama and the "heightened expectations. You know, I think I actually prefer the outright liberal bias of a Matthews than the muffled bias of a Kurtz as he spins, excuses, and dismisses what's obvious to most everybody - except for our couple of media aplogists here.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning from 12 AM to 8PM tommorrow for most of the state. They are calling for 3-5 inches of the white stuff, most of it in the east and norhteast I have been praying as I told many of you earlier for snow to mess up the Messiah's party tomorrow. Look's like they may not have that much in DC but major roads like I-95 and 85 leading up from the south may keep a lot of Obamanist from making it.

Because of my job, I still have to be there so I won't get to watch this sad day in our history. Sad to me because the way of life I have enjoyed for 57 years is about to change in a way that I ahve never had to endure even under Jimma.

The Des Moines Register actually allowed someone to say something positive about President Bush without contradiction. Phillip Emmert had his sentence commuted two years ago and has made something of his life. Emmert is a committed Christian. It's also rare that the Register didn't ridicule him for that.
