Stimulus package
January 12, 2009 - 10:16 ET by Prester JohnThis morning on Fox there was a panel "discussion" of BHO's sitmulus package. One of the panelists, who is a regular and who I believe works for Gov Corzine, said with a straight face that BHO would make sure there wasn't any pork in the $755 billion package.
Uh huh.
I laughed when I heard that.
January 12, 2009 - 10:29 ET by pitter43I laughed when I heard that. It was such a transparent lie. Quite the opposite, he's going to make sure there is pork. Congress wouldn't pass it if there wasn't.

January 12, 2009 - 11:38 ET by AgnosticActually in his speech he called for Congress to pass the incentive package pork-free so there would not be a reason to slow it down for debate. He called on both parties to keep it free of any additions.

Stimulus Bill
January 12, 2009 - 11:33 ET by ricklailAs far as I can tell there is no stimulus bill on paper yet. How can he say something like that. The Dems are going to write the bill the way they want it worded. It will be so full of pork that if you threw it in a fire it would smell like bacon frying.

lLast Presser
January 12, 2009 - 10:32 ET by thebutlerdiditI watched the last presser, and what I took away was that George was melancholy, sad to see his time end, relaxed, he was letting himself have fun, tough, defensive, saying that no one knew what he dealt with daily, and willing to let history judge him, not those pustulant boils who gave him daily grief. I wish he had been this forthcoming more often, but most of all the man is class. I will miss him.

January 12, 2009 - 10:43 ET by mattmDid not watch it, but from reading parts of it, I found it to be another typical example of why he has a low image: he capitualtes to his critics too easily.
True, he did defend himself in some areas, but how he can concede the WMD point when 550 metric tons of uranium were found in Iraq, along with plenty of evidence that showed a pre-war effort to remove truckloads of ??? from the country?
He also constantly fails to address the major point that Hussein claimed to have WMD and that his violation of 14 U.N. resolutions gave us no way of knowing if he was lying or not; and so we either had to eliminate him as a threat or allow the threat to grow.
He could also have mentioned that he never said anything about WMD that Clinton hadn't previously said.
By his unwillingness to fight the left, he has damaged his own image, his party's image and the prospects for the future.
Too many idiots are going to look at Bush and use that as their justification for thoughtlessly voting for Democrats for the rest of their lives. This is what RINOism gets you.
My word on the Clinton administration was "eight wasted years." My word on Bush is "Blown opportunity."
Now we're stuck with the Union of Soviet Socialist States of what used to be America. How sad.

I think his biggest problem has been taking the high road. Being to afraid challange the snakes because there claims are ludicris. The problem was over 50% of the country only heard the one side of the story, and over a long enough period of time they started to believe the lies.

January 12, 2009 - 11:15 ET by AgnosticIt would have been nice to see the President defend himself and his administration but it is entirely possible that would have made things worse. As we are seeing now with Gov. Palin, like or not, if you open your mouth for any reason you will just give the media ammunition. Enough people listened to get him elected twice and win in Iraq and in todays anti-Republican media that is quite an accomplishment. An accomplishment he may not have been able to pull off if the media would of had more ammo given to them from his own mouth.

January 12, 2009 - 11:21 ET by DCC1That is possible, but it is interesting that when W finds a subject that he cares so much about, and doesn't use a script how clear articulate and persuasive he can be.
I think the biggest problem wouldn't of been his words getting torn up, but rather them falling on deph ears. The media would cover him up refuse to broadcast or even cover his speech.
I found it interesting, remember back when the networks refused to interupt programming to boardcast the pres anymore. I wonder how many times they will say the same to the one!

But I understand some lizards look like they are asleep when they are awake, so I can't be sure. As for Bush being more aggresive, yes, it would have been nice, but honestly I don't think it would have helped. He learned early on that he was going to be considered wrong, no matter what he said/did, so he decided to take the high road, and refused to wallow in the muck. As I said before, class always tells. A Good Man
January 12, 2009 - 13:22 ET by BeanManIf we want to make a list of all of the things President Bush did that we believe are wrong, let me get the paper and pencil and I'll get it started. However he is a good and honest man and has nothing to be ashamed of from the last eight years.
I do believe that he was responsible for his own low approval ratings. I also don't believe he was deserving of them. He let the MSM dictate to the country, for years, their distorted opinion of him and he never tried to get the truth out. In his place I would have spoken publically weekly at least. If the public was given his reasons for doing what he was doing by the President himself, they may not have deserted him in droves which they seem to have done.
This may, in part, have led to maintaining Republican control of at least one of the chambers of the Senate and possibly retaining of the Presidency.
However the MSM relentlessly trashed him by bringing on five liberals to a single conservative and reporting half-truths as fact. How many times did you read or hear something put out by the MSM and yell "That's not right!" but not been able to do anything about it?
Now we are in for at least four years of uber-liberalism and socialsim under the guise of "progressive policies" and "fixing" this or that becasue the Bush administration screwed it up.
Sigh...

Different AP views
January 12, 2009 - 22:36 ET by ThisnThatI've been noticing this for a while. Here are three different statements within the same AP story:
At least 20 Palestinians died Monday, some them from wounds suffered on previous days, Gaza health officials said.
The fighting began Dec. 27 and has killed more than 900 Palestinians, about half of them civilians, according to Palestinian medical officials.
Israeli leaders have said the operation is close to achieving its goals. Security officials say they have killed hundreds of Hamas fighters, including top commanders, but there has been no way to confirm the claims.
Notice how the AP gives 100% certainty to the two Palestinian claims, but discounts the Israeli claims? Just another subtle way the AP is telling us that Israel can't be trusted with the truth.
