For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Israel fears Obama?
AS WORLD leaders and international organizations rush to rescue Hamas, Israel faces complex bat tlefield challenges - while fearing a stab in the back from the incoming Obama administration. Israel's leaders are asking themselves two questions: Is the cost of sending sufficient ground forces into Gaza just too high? And, upon his inauguration on Jan. 20, will President Obama undercut Israel's counterterror offensive before its goals have been reached?
Will he? Is Obama about to stab America's strongest Middle East ally in the back and thus radically change the political calculus in the region, or is the Post overstated this concern?

All Obama's administration has to do is become more "neutral" towards Israel rather than an active ally like now. This more 'neutral' stance will change the strategic balance in the region.
I fear that if Israel feels isolated and alone (Seems like that is the lefty world's plan already) they will become more fearful for their survival and will answer these perceived threats with extreme force. I would venture to say that Tehran and Damascus will be the first to go in any pre-emptive strike.

UN Resolution
January 4, 2009 - 10:51 ET by ThisnThatDoes anyone think Obama would have rejected the UN resolution calling for a false cease-fire yesterday. Only the U.S. was against this, for good reasons -- including, it gave Hamas an "out" without requiring anything from them in return. Obama would have caved; President Bush stood by Israel.

January 4, 2009 - 11:27 ET by thebutlerdiditI'm not defending Carter, but most of the Habitat houses are well built. I know some have a good bit of volunteer work done by teens, etc, but most are pretty good. The real problem is that some people just can't have houses. They don't do any upkeep, any maintenance or cleaning, whatsoever. They end up trashing the houses they are practically given, and then complain. Don't get me wrong, I think there is a problem with the houses in the article that are built on a garbage dump site, but most of the houses end up like those "given" to people that couldn't afford them through F&F. When realtors go to resell some of them, they have a hard time getting anyone to come in to clean and repair them, they are so gross. Some people just weren't meant to own homes.

January 4, 2009 - 11:31 ET by sherylsimsI absolutely agree and also want to add that when you don't pay for something you don't have the appreciation for it that you would if you had to make a payment every month for most of the rest of your life. The difference between owning and renting isn't the only issue, it is a difference between pride of ownership and the character that would enable you to buy property in the first place.
Carter's stupidity
January 4, 2009 - 11:39 ET by BlondeWas putting the development on top of a garbage dump. Sheer stupidity.
Actually, I was involved in HforH locally. The people who buy the homes (at that time, anyway) were mostly very low income, lots of single moms, actually. But they have to "invest" 500 hours of sweat equity (IIRC) in their homes, or other HH homes, and had to have stable jobs, before they could get thier (subsidized) loans. I have alot more respect for them than for these bailout babies who bought homes they knew they couldn't afford, and it's sad to see one's hopes and dreams vaporize on a cloud of garbage. Thank you Jimmuh!

January 4, 2009 - 11:47 ET by sherylsimsI have to admit, I don't know the details of Habitat for Humanity, but when we lived in Oklahoma (many years ago) there was a program that allowed lower income people to own reposessed homes based only on recommendation from a pastor. (And proof of their low income status.) We knew a family who qualified, and were allowed to buy a beautiful three bedroom/two bathroom house, good neighborhood, huge back yard, for one dollar. I have to admit I was a little jealous at the time. One year later, that house was a stinky dump and the family had moved out due to divorce and some drug-related debts. It just made me sick to my stomach that they were given something so MANY people would have really appreciated and they didn't.

January 4, 2009 - 12:30 ET by TjexciteWhat I would like to see is what kind of protest would happen if the Anti-Israel vs. Anti-Prop 8 vs. Pro-Obama. Who knows how it would turn out.
The Anti-Israel would hate the Gay marriage crowed and the gay marriage would hate Anti-Israel once they found out they do not support gay marriage or gays in any capacity. The Pro-Obama would end up split. they can not be Anti-Israel vis a vis Pro-Islam and yet support gay marriage or pretty much all the left stand for at the same time. But then again they are the left so what they support can change day to day. When the Anarchist and the Communist have to team up to get the numbers someone is missing something.
Even days out I am still disturbed by the protest for Hamas in the US. Either they just started to get that ville or I have lived a sheltered life and thanks to the net it is finally getting out and the protests have always been that ville

Reid on MTP
January 4, 2009 - 13:11 ET by jaywlThis was posted in the Sports Thread, somehow. So here it is in a proper thread.
The more I see of Harry Reid the more I want him front and center
talking his little head off. He spent the first 10 minutes of MTP
digging a hole with blacks. He admitted and confirmed every slight to
the supporters of black elected politicians in Illinois that he has
been accused of making in the past week. He contradicted himself and
came across as just a scheming, crass politico. Then! After stabbing
himself over and over he told Gregory that there might be a way Burris
will be seated after all! Not only have the Dems created and sustained
a self made fiasco, but Reid now may seat a BLACK MAN after telling
Blago to only appoint white women. What an idiot.
The rest of MTP (except for the roundtable with its opportunities
for Bush Bashing) was filled with more twisted idiocies from the mouth
of Reid. I thought I would praise Gregory, but, in the end he saved me.
He asked Reid about his comments on Pres. Bush being the worst
President in history. Reid responded with statements accusing Bush of
trying to destroy Social Security and Medicare. I thought Bush was the
President that shepherded the expansion of Medicare to include
prescription drug coverage. Whether or not one thinks that was a good
thing, it certainly was not destroying Medicare, except in Reid's small
head. He showed again what a small man he is.

Btw...on this interview, Reid would NEVER admit he was wrong about his words saying this war is lost...or the surge worked, it was infuriating, but he is a despicable little man with no soul as far as I am concerned.
Here is a link to get anyone where they want if interested in any of it.

I watched it, and didn't see anything I wanted to write about. Might have just been my mood. Have to go back to work tomorrow after some time off, and I'm not looking forward to it. :-( ns

BT
January 5, 2009 - 00:47 ET by Noel SheppardBT,
Maybe I should explain better. I really wasn't in the mood to write today. In case you hadn't noticed, I take very few days off here. I only went into my office three days the past couple of weeks, but contributed here every day. My son commented last night that he thought I was spending too much time in front of the computer during his vacation.
Any way, after getting the open threads up while watching "Reliable Sources," I started watching "This Week," and didn't see anything there that grabbed me. "MTP" came on, and nothing jumped out at me that made me immediately want to write about. Frankly, Reid makes me sick. I can't believe someone that unintelligent and dishonest could be Majority Leader. Beyond this, I wrote what I thought was a solid piece about his potential racism pertaining to Obama's empty seat yesterday, and it didn't get as much attention on the Net as I expected. So, I wasn't really excited about writing another article about him today. Make sense?
So, I mentally bookmarked a couple of sections in the interview, and watched "Matthews." When I saw him get another thrill up his leg, I put that together, posted it, and decided to watch football on my last "day off." ns
Frankly Noel,The Fearless
January 5, 2009 - 01:06 ET by bigtimerFrankly Noel,The Fearless Leader makes me sick too, as you well know by now, I have posted as such in various ways over the years... I wasn't being critical here, I was just surprised there was nothing about it here, that is all...Gregory pressing him on this, saying to him, you know this probably on tape ect...made me smile, Reid does what the sickening piece of lint always does....whisper/lie ect...Gregory actually did a good job with Reid and getting him to say the Surge worked (or didn't) ...all I am saying is I was surprised with Gregory being more aggressive, what is angering to me is the non-story about this from the msm had any of this been reversed with a repub majority leader all the way around, the press would be everywhere demanding to know if there was a way to get a transcript of the tape with Reid and Blago, filing FOIA ect...24/7, making sure to bring bias to the person until person stood down if he/she didn't answer their questions NOW ect.
You, kind sir, would not even begin to believe what kind of a Christmas Vacation I have had....ever.
I will forever leave it at that.

January 5, 2009 - 01:19 ET by Noel SheppardBT,
Actually, I too thought Gregory did a good job today. I was shocked that he brought up the racial issue with Reid, and pressed him about the surge. Absolutely shocked. Frankly, if I wrote anything about MTP today, it was going to be how Gregory pressed Reid.
Since you brought it up, was your vacation bad? ns
In answer to your last
January 5, 2009 - 01:32 ET by bigtimerIn answer to your last question...yep...only a fiction writer could write about it.
As to Gregory, I was very surprised about the whole interview compared to the very small previous shows he has had so far....he may well end up doing a great job...I didn't watch the last half with the nit-wit talking heads, (which I usually do) but skipped that today, I was just so surprised that the msm had nada about this, or here too...do not ever get me wrong, first thing I thought of was I bet NBs will have something about this today, (this was before I even had my coffee this morning) can't help it!
I never got here until very late today... so I just assumed there would be something about Gregory regarding all of this plus the job the did...let alone the rest of the msm, then again I had it to football in between things here, so didn't check all the time on the political stations I usually check...anyway, I hope something more comes of this, this is blatant racism if ever there was from the fearless leader, even if he says he says different, it is when it comes to the msm if it would be a repub.
On another note, I cannot believe when I saw Reid I didn't immediately turn the channel, but Stretch was doing such a good job for himself, I had to leave it there, glad I did too...for once.

Hey Noel... My profuse
January 5, 2009 - 02:04 ET by bigtimerHey Noel...
My profuse apologies...didn't see your blog post from the third of this month until just the last fifteen minutes, which was of course great regarding what we were talking about in some for on OT late this evening....just wanted to let you know.
I know you understand what I mean.

Yeah BT, I Just Read The Transcripts
January 5, 2009 - 00:03 ET by Asian Conon Gateway Pundit. Since Russert's passing I wouldn't disgrace his memory by tuning into MTP's downward spiral into oblivion. While I believe in respecting your elders, I wouldn't hesitate for a second in punching this prick in the nose. There needs to be a BETTER system in place for getting incompetant politicians out of office ala Gray Davis from CA.
I heard that Reid is worried about his seat come 2010. I would hope that the American people have the common sense to throw this POS out of office. Based on Obama's election and Murtha's reelection, it doesn't inspire me too much.

AC... What Reid got away
January 5, 2009 - 00:16 ET by bigtimerAC...
What Reid got away with this morning was outrageous as far as I am concerned via the msm, Lott got demoted, (not that I loved Lott a lot...hehehe) for his supposed racism of the private words he said to Thurmond at his what, 100th birthday party, yet Reid can go on national television, with the implications from what I heard Gregory say to him that he, Reid via telephone call before this scandal came to light mind you when this all took place, wanted Blago to NOT send him any black congress-critters, just the two gals I mentioned above...
We would hear screaming from the msm 24/7 if this was reversed calling for the repubs head to step down claiming outright, blatant RACISM!
For me...INFURIATING hypocrisy...and I hope at least Rush Limbaugh mentions this tomorrow...and a few others I listen to via radio air waves.
It can't be just me...it's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Yeah, The MSM's & Democrats Hypocrisy Knows No Bounds,
January 5, 2009 - 01:03 ET by Asian ConOff the top of my head, I can recite half a dozen instances of equally outrageous double standards of racism.
Michael Steele, when he was running for some office, they "liberals" were passing out Oreo cookies at his rallies. The implication being, he was a sellout, black on the outside and white on the inside.
I believe it is JC Watts, I'm not sure, who is married to a white woman. Congresswoman Diane Watson told Watts that he married a white woman because he has no ethnic pride and he wants to be white. When confronted, with this statement, she was even more emphatic.
Shrillary said that the Repubs were running the White House like a plantation. You get the usual Powell, Rice is a sellout. So this kind of stuff just doesn't suprise me anymore.

Stop the Gaza Attacks
January 5, 2009 - 08:45 ET by ThisnThatI was watching Fox News this morning (8:30) and noticed this headline: "Arab states to ask U.N. to stop Gaza attacks".
When did these same Arab states ever ask the U.N. to stop the Hamas rocket attacks on Israel?
