I'm not sure about the rest of the states, but New York and New Jersey have their steep deficits as a result of corruption, gross financial mismanagement, leaders pushing a socialist agenda the state budget can't afford, and mass patronage hiring.  I guess its to be expected that the leaders of these states don't have the character to admit that their policies have failed.  These states are swimming in red ink despite the fact that their citizens pay some of the highest state and county taxes in the country.  Now Paterson and Corzine  want the rest of the country to pay as well, rather than make the necessary cuts to live within their means.  With the new administration, they'll likely find a receptive audience for soaking the rest of America.

"Maintain Services" means maintan the lifestyle of the double dipping state employees! "Slumping Revenues" will be solved by raising MY taxes. Now that I've lost 25% of my IRA, my home is down 20% in value and at the tender age of 71, I and a lot of seniors were FORCED to sell some of our IRA in a down market via the RMD! What makes Corzine think that after all that, that I have money to support a state highway employee sleeping in his truck!

The bailout will end as soon as the idiots in charge drive us straight into another Great Depression.  I vote calling it the Fantasic Depression, because it took fantastic idiocy to get us there.

The bailouts will end specifically when conservatives, true conservatives, get into power and reverse all the policies, regulation, pork, and tax rates that currently burden the taxpayer and investor.

It's literally going to take the U.S. Federal Government to go into bankruptcy before we get back on track, because only then will the Nanny State be unable to continue coddling able yet unwilling people who contribute nothing of productive value but suck at socialisms teat.

NEWS FLASH: Buggy Whip Makers Demand Bailout!

An industry that, for all practical purposes died almost 100 years ago, has arisen like a Phoenix from the ashes and is now demanding part of the TARP bailout money.

With the introduction of the auto industry decades ago to the American way of life, a number of industries that pertained to “travel by horse” fell by the wayside. No longer needed, at least in vast quantities, were businesses like buggy whip, dung bag, blinder and mane tassle makers. Because people were now buying and traveling in modernistic and highly popular automobiles, the previous mentioned businesses quickly succumbed to low demand. Not only was the civilian population falling in love with “travel by automoble”, but the military, formerly very horse-centric, was now converting to gas-powered machinery. The Jeep is a good example of the conversion process. Military vehicles would ultimately be converted to civilian use. Note the HumVee. Most men would really enjoy getting a Hummer.

Surprisingly, the blinder industry has enjoyed a resurgence in their business because of the growth of the Democratic party. However, while there is still minor demand in the recreational equestrian field, most companies in the other industries have almost completely passed away.

But now, the defunct buggy-whip union known as SMAC (Society for Making Animals Cringe), has reformed in an effort to plead their case in Congress. The union leaders are demanding a share of the bailout money because they say there is no difference whether a business goes out of business today, or 100 years ago. "We’re all Americans, and we should all receive our share of governmental largesse." The union is demanding funds for retraining, retirement/medical benefit extensions and extravagant parties in Las Vegas. Retraining would allow the former buggy whip employees to move into the ever expanding and popular auto industry…er…strike that… Correction, retraining would allow the workers to learn to speak Spanish and Chinese. The workers could then travel to Mexico and China to learn the latest in manufacuring methods used to produce cheap little plastic thingees for practically nothing, and then sell them to America for exorbitant prices.

UPDATE: A law suit has just been filed against the SMAC union by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). The union quickly responded by changing their name to SMAC (Society for Motivating Animals Creatively)
