For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Deep Throat dead at 95.

W. Mark Felt, who leaked information to reporters under the moniker, "Deep Throat," about the Watergate break-in, died Thursday at the age of 95, sources told CNN...Felt admitted in a 2005 Vanity Fair article he was the Washington Post's source for many of its 400 stories on the Watergate affair during the early 1970s. The Watergate break-in eventually led to the 1974 resignation of President Richard Nixon.

How will history view Felt? Maybe more important, how will history view Watergate? Was it emblematic of ultimate White House corruption, or the moment in American history when journalism changed forever and media members universally became gotcha hounds looking for the next big story that could make them stars instead of reporting the news?

If there had been a "deep throat" during the Clinton years, and a politically active conservative media, specifically determined to bring Clinton down, Billy Boy would be in jail.

Nixon was guilty of very minor shenanigans... No bodies were found in parks, nor did any witnesses die in prison the day before scheduled testimony during the Nixon Administration....

When Billy got in trouble - time and time again - people started dying. Vince Foster, James McDougal and many others...

I guess any republican "deept throat" that may have existed met the same fate.

..if there'd been a 'deep throat' .. I'd suspect that during a Democratic White House, Clinton or anyone else, the mainstream media would not have been interested in his story.

Thinking of that as I see almost daily examples of this in the news: this, in the LA Times today, in the side bar about the Clinton Foundation donors:

..Streisand... - one of the several stars and Democratic donors who spent the night in the Clinton White House, prompting Republicans in Congress to investigate.

Note:

1. "several" - like is that 6 or 7 folks. Wasn't the list rather large.. here's one example from the WaPost: "404 people had stayed overnight at the executive mansion or Camp David since Hillary Rodham Clinton launched her campaign for the U.S. Senate, many of them donors who have given in excess of $600,000 to support her effort.."

2. " ..prompting Republicans to investigate." Is it not interesting that almost everything being done by the Democrats that looks shady or corrupt, when and if it ever gets reported by the MSM, is blamed on the "Republicans investigating" them?

The MSM investigates the Republicans and brings it's investigations of rumors, "some say," to the front page, above the fold, or in the top of the network news - followed up by special reports on NPR, etc.

The national press does not have the even the curiosity to investigate the Democrats. Just ask Bill Clinton how many times a reporter has asked him about how bad it must have felt to leave town right in the middle of that 2000 economic bubble collapse. Imagine a reporter asking him why, after he promised "Never Again," [Rwanda], another 3 1/2 to 5 million human beings died in civil war and genocide in the DR Congo, Sierra Leone, Angola, and the Ivory Coast - and 5 million more from HIV/Aids and malaria in Africa? Perhaps the Republicans should have investigated him and asked the questions.

But seriously, Mark Felt is a politically motivated weasal. Anybody who settles political scores by using the vermin in the media is political scum. He is a weasel and should have outed himself long ago and taken responsibility for violating his oath of office and for not seeking to have Nixon prosecuted through official channels for any crimes. Reporting somebody to the MSM is not justice, it's childish revenge.

Thank God Felt never became FBI Director. The country dodged a bullet.

In fact, I'd be willing to wager that had this Felt been a Republican leaning top guy at the FBI and was pulling this on a Democratic president - say a Clinton or Obama - the MSM either would have had nothing to do with him, or would be out to destroy the man's career. The Plumber's operation itself, shows how power can drive a person like President Nixon over the edge in a quest to maintain his position.

I'm still conflicted over the actions of Felt because he should have had the nerve to tell the President that what was done was not legal, instead of telling the Press.

Don't know how many look at the Ancorage Daily News on a regular basis, but there are a McClatchy newspapaer. Enough said.

They are brutal. I mean ever single step Governor Palin makes, they go after her in a negative light. It's amazing.

And I swear they either pay people or these are staffers who comment on the stories. But any story on Palin, and within minutes you will have the most vile statements imaginable.

You can imagine this story, and how it looked this morning!

It's a legitimate news story, but other than the fact that they may end up being related by marriage, there is no connection to Sarah or the Palin family, and this deal.

Anyhow, you guys are right, the media is having a field day up there.

Meanwhile absolutely no one has reported on the 4 SCOTUS cases questioning Barry's birth certificate, or really digging into how far Barry is into this Blago deal.

arrested last week on federal corruption charges.

Blagojevich
has avoided the public eye for the most part since his arrest, but in
recent days has told reporters camped outside his house that he is

The advisory released
this morning from the governor's office said only that Blagojevich

Not to mention that the Bush Administration has led the charge in bailing out miscreant Wall Street fat-cats, but continues to turn a blind eye to Ramos and Compean who are still serving a combined 23-year federal prison sentence!

Border security patriot, Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, opined:

"The fact that the president has neglected to free these men from their imprisonment while freeing drug dealers, embezzlers and other criminals is insulting to the American people. For the sake of justice, let's hope this is not the last round of pardons and commutations."

And conservative stalwart, Phyllis Schlafly, inveighed:

"The severity of these charges and the harshness of the punishment are totally disproportionate to the violation in question. Even the illegal drug smuggler, Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila, was sentenced to less prison time than our fellow American border guards!"

HOLD PRESIDENT BUSH ACCOUNTABLE, STOP THE INJUSTICE!

Recall with me the details of this kangaroo court verdict:

*The illegal alien and drug trafficker Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila fled capture by Agents Ramos and Compean after crossing the U.S.-Mexico border with well over a quarter-ton of marijuana in transport.

*During the pursuit, Ramos and Compean exchanged gunfire with Davila wounding him in the buttocks. He narrowly escaped and was later apprehended in a separate drug bust while waiting to appear in court. Shockingly, U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton--a friend of President Bush--ordered a full-scale investigation of Ramos and Compean and then asked Davila to testify against Ramos and Compean for shooting him. Ramos and Compean were arrested at their homes by Homeland Defense SWAT teams and dragged into court for doing their jobs.

*Wasting no time in using Ramos and Compean as an example, the prosecuting attorney Debra Kanov got the court to ignore critical evidence in the case. Instead, the agents were prosecuted on a technicality which requires U.S. Border Patrol to get supervisor permission before chasing and apprehending drug traffickers! Yes, that's right, Border Patrol Agents have to get permission to protect our borders! Of course, Ramos and Compean responding in self-defense, apparently failed to radio in and ask permission before firing upon and laying chase to an armed Davila...this would be laughable if it were not so scandalously true.

*The court then weighed only one person's testimony as "proof" of Ramos' and Compean's "crime"--the testimony of illegal alien and captured drug trafficker Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila. The court weighed the official incident reports of Agents Ramos and Compean and gave more weight to the story of a proven criminal!

*The court suppressed the fact that Davila was subsequently arrested for drug-trafficking, and granted him a plea-bargain in exchange for his testimony against Ramos and Compean. In addition to the plea-bargain, Davila was given a special Visa to cross the border whenever he wants and treated to top-notch medical care for the injuries sustained during his escape.

*Though Davila was ultimately sentenced for drug trafficking--no mention of the fact that he was also an illegal immigrant--his sentence was a fraction of the harsh and excessive judgment handed down for Ramos and Compean of 23 years!

*Since their imprisonment, scores of legal experts have analyzed the details of the case and concluded overwhelmingly that this was one of the most gross failures of the U.S. justice system in our republic's history--and that the preponderance of evidence suggested cover-up and conspiracy against Ramos and Compean. Two of the jurors gave sworn testimony that they were pressured to deliver a "guilty" verdict for Ramos and Compean. THEN, the DHS Inspector General admitted under oath to Congress that they had falsified an alleged confession by Ramos and Compean!

DEMAND THAT THE RULE OF LAW BE UPHELD...FREE RAMOS AND COMPEAN!

Conservative columnist Doug Patton wrote:

"I will lose my last ounce of respect for [Bush] as my president if he does not pardon Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean before he leaves office. These men put their lives on the line for us just as surely as our brave troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and justice demands a full presidential pardon....It also turns out that this low-life drug smuggler [Davila] re-entered the United States at least 10 different times in 2005 and that he was caught smuggling drugs while he was waiting to testify against Ramos and Compean. These facts were not brought up at their trial."

And border security champion, Congressman Tom Tancredo, declared:

"These are the kinds of men whose government failed and destroyed them - all while they were serving a cause greater than themselves. These men deserve justice. I, and many other members of Congress, have repeatedly called upon President Bush to exercise his power to pardon - but he has not done so."

To be sure, President Obama will NOT consider a pardon of Ramos and Compean in a hundred years! A Bush pardon IS OUR ONLY HOPE for Ramos and Compean! If the president fails to pardon these patriots, they'll serve a combined sentence of nearly a quarter-century.THIS IS INTOLERABLE!!!

AND YET, though over 100 Congressmen have co-sponsored a resolution calling for the full pardon of Ramos and Compean, the Bush Administration is persistent in its deafening silence...

What kind of message does such a scandal send to the U.S. Border Patrol? You guessed it: "Don't do your job or you'll catch hellfire for it from the highest office in the country."

What message does this send to the American people? Yep, right again: "We don't mind spending billions on fighting terrorism around the world, but we're gonna leave the back door WIDE OPEN."

Majel Barrett Roddenberry, "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry's widow who nurtured the legacy of the seminal science fiction TV series after his death, has died. She was 76. Roddenberry died of leukemia Thursday morning at her home in Bel-Air, said Sean Rossall, a family spokesman.

Scientists "discover" they were totally wrong

Space.com reports that:

"Scientists have found two large leaks in Earth's magnetosphere, the region around our planet that shields us from severe solar storms,"

The new observations "overturn the way that we understand how the sun's magnetic field interacts with the Earth's magnetic field," said David Sibeck of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., during a press conference today at the annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union in San Francisco.

By "overturn" he means THE TOTAL OPPOSITE OF WHAT WE'VE (SCIENTISTS)BEEN SAYING.

Just let that sink in. Does it remind anyone of a certain scam peddled by a losing Presidential candidate with a confirmed batchelors degree in that science of "Divinity,"

Saw som Greenpeace ninny on Cavuto selling the "colder is warmer" doctrine. And our kids are being taught this. There are those who call evil good and good evil, and cold hot and hot cold.
