For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Thanksgiving Eve.
With the economy and stocks in the dumps, and socialism on the march, what are you thankful for, and what are you thinking on the Eve of the holiday season kicking off?
Are you traveling anywhere for the long weekend, or staying home? Does Thanksgiving mean anything different to you because of this year's trials and tribulations and what you see for the future? How are your spirits all things considered?
Finally, what are your spending plans this season? Are you going to cut back, spend about the same as last year, or maybe indulge even more?
To all those heading out of town today who won't be with us this weekend, please have a Happy Thanksgiving, and thank you for being part of the NewsBusters family.

We went out to breakfast
November 26, 2008 - 11:13 ET by sherylsimsWe went out to breakfast yesterday at a popular restaurant in our neighborhood. As we were sitting outside waiting for a table (The restaurant was CROWDED but it always is...) an elderly man walked past us and heard one of us remark on how unusually busy it was that morning, and the man smiled and said, "Must be Bush's recession."
Other than NOT going to visit my mother-in-law halfway across the country, we won't be doing much different this year. Turkey, stuffing, desserts, etc will be a combined effort of the group of family and close friends who will be together for the day.
It is sad to see what is happening to our country and to the white house, but it is comforting to know that God told us this was coming and that we should be ready for it. It is exciting to see Bible end times prophecies coming to pass right before our eyes. He said when these things begin to come to pass, LOOK UP so that is what we will be doing. Looking UP to Jesus, our Savior and being thankful He loves us and will take care of us through all of this.
Happy Thanksgiving to all my new friends at NewsBusters. You have helped me through a really difficult and frustrating time by being here ranting along with me throughout the election and the aftermath. I don't know how I would have done it without you. Reading, among other things
November 26, 2008 - 11:47 ET by GothampcI've made it one of my goals in the coming year to re-learn American History. I didn't pay a lot of attention when I was in school and over the years I've heard so much liberal garbage. So I've decided to separate the fact from fiction.
I'm currently reading "Of Plymouth Plantation" by William Bradford.
I find it interesting that in the Plymouth colony they originally had a community food storage. Some of the colonists realized that they didn't have to put forth any effort to eat. Finally, it was decided that each family would grow their own food and what they didn't use for their own use they could sell. That solved the lazy problem real quick!
If you want to learn....
November 26, 2008 - 17:50 ET by Prester John....about those mean, individualistic, daring, aggressive forefathers of ours who crossed the Appalachians in the mid/late 18th Century, read the 4 book series about the American Frontier by Dale Van Every.
What a bunch of mean SOBs they were.
I can only wonder what they would think of what their descendants created on the foundation they laid.
Thanksgiving
November 26, 2008 - 11:54 ET by UnsaneThis year I will be traveling 40 miles to the house. This would be a far cry from previous years when Thanksgiving meant traveling 4000 miles or even 10,000 miles, so that is one thing to be thankful for!
Thanksgiving will see me working on various projects in between bites of food. So it should be interesting, we'll see what happens.
That, and I will be taking time out to see the Cowboys play. I'll shrug my shoulders if they win. But if they lose, friends better expect to see multiple texts that begin with the phrase "The Mighty Cowboys" followed by dripping, intense sarcasm :-) .
May all the NBers have a happy Thanksgiving!

Cost of T-Day dinner
November 26, 2008 - 12:16 ET by SouthJersey1953I found it funny this morning on the news, they were talking about how much more expensive Thanksgiving Dinner will cost this year. Then they said, (gasp) that a meal to feed 10 people will cost $40! (double-gasp!) This is news? Why? Try to feed 10 people anywhere for anything near $40. A hamburger, fries and a drink at a fast food place will cost twice that! Sounds to me like Thanksgiving Dinner is CHEAP!

November 26, 2008 - 12:19 ET by KarinI'm lucky, I'm having dinner at my new sis-in-law's house, and they all voted for McCain/against Obama. My poor stepfather, a conservative, has to drive 90 miles to his limousine-liberal sons' town. He's got to sit through all that gloating. I told him to make up a localized snowstorm and make a turkey pot pie for dinner. We can do a Thanksgiving toast over the phone.
I really do feel bad for all the family conflict that will be taking place this Thanksgiving. I hope that everyone can keep the true spirit, for the day.
I know a lot of people
November 26, 2008 - 12:29 ET by sherylsimsI know a lot of people actually enjoy the "banter" of the liberal vs conservative during holiday get togethers, but for me it isn't a time to try to make a point or get someone to see your point of view. It is a time to enjoy each others company (some of whom you won't see again until next year) so I plan to stay off the politics and stay on happy topics for this one day. I won't disrespect the turkey by causing a food fight on HIS day. ;-)
Good morning all
November 26, 2008 - 12:22 ET by cocodrieFor years I have witnessed the left-wing extremists attempting to destroy Christmas and now they are working to destroy Thanksgiving. The reason for this is Christmas thanks God for giving us Jesus and Thanksgiving thanks God for giving us America. They don't want to thank God for anything.
I for one will be thanking Jesus for all the wonderful family and friends He put in my life, especially my new ones here at NBs. Old friends are the best, new friends you can find every day. But y'all remind me of my old ones so you are very special.
Those that I disagree with are just as special. Wouldn't life be dull if no one was different? SO, everyone be blessed and enjoy Thanksgiving.

November 26, 2008 - 12:50 ET by jistincaseI am most thankful for my kids and wonderful wife who puts up with all the stuff that I do. I am thankful that I still live in the greatest country on the earth and can still speak my mind and own a gun. I am thankful for the comfort that God gives me in these troubling times knowing that these are his plans and better things are coming. I am thankful for this site as well as the many other conservative sites that I have found that actually know what is going on. I am thankful for all the liberals in the world so I have a good example of what not to be or believe in.
This Thanksgiving and Christmas will pretty subdued as things are tight and I think that being with your loved ones in the most important thing you can do these days telling them and letting them know that you love them and care about them. I am certain the God will show his mighty hand soon in a way that even the most skeptical cannot deny, and if they do they are lost forever.

Happy Thanksgiving...
November 26, 2008 - 12:55 ET by jackie3Yesterday I went to the local store to get a small turkey for dinner. I was standing in the very end of a long line. Been there about 10 minutes. Right in front of register 5. I also had my sick daughter with me and few groceries due to my own tight budget.
one of the cashiers came to open up the register I was standing in front off. I didn't hear any announcements but found myself in the midst of a rush of filled carts. I turned sharply and started to unload my few items onto the conveyer as I realized the register was opening.
A rude woman with a cart load of food yelled at me "I was next in line. She said she would take the next person in line."
Now, for starters I couldn't hear any announcements and was standing right in front of the register. I simply ignored the woman who BTW stood a number of carts behind the rush of carts. She went back to the line she was in...right behind the person who was checking out on register 1.
My one thought was..."At least she can afford all those groceries. I only had 20 dollars to spend on a thanks giving dinner for the family."
I felt grateful that I wasn't that uptight, to run out of line half way down the store to another line and then have the nerve to actually belittle another customer who has far less.
Plans:
I'm staying home and cooking a nice dinner on very little money. Turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes, broccoli, rolls and pumpkin pie.
Christmas will be very tight this year. I already told my extended family that I cannot afford to get the gifts. Since they afford it either we all agreed to forgo gift giving except for kids. I bought my daughter so "high school musical" things earlier this summer and have been hiding them. I pick up things for her during the year and hide it. I refuse to even go to a store after black Friday. Too crowded and obnoxious. I have got one shirt for my husband and will look at getting him a pocket knife. Then my shopping is done.
Christmas and Thanksgiving will be quiet and at home. No traveling.
I'm hoping next year I can give something to the family. I'm learning how to sew. I hope to make them each a project, like table clothes and napkins or aprons and pot holders. I want to be able to make my clothes someday as well as my daughters.
Everyone have a great thanksgiving. Be safe on the roads.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Obama to rule America with "visions"
November 26, 2008 - 13:34 ET by Jack BauerPresident Obama to rule by "visions." OFFICIAL.
Yep folks, it's going to be so much fun mocking this guy for the next four years.
At his press conference, a testy President (still to be confirmed Elected by the Electoral College) almost Elect, got a bit gobby when a hack dared challenge his "change" as he's picking old Clinton hacks. (Volker's a DECADE older than McCain)
The President- not-quite-Elect went on to claim that he will have the "vision" and his underlings will implement his "visions."
Sounds kinda weird and mental to me. Don't they put people who have visions into secure state institutions?

If we pull out of Iraq too early, bring all the troops home from around the world, protect our borders, and never should another life be shed of foreign soil, ever!! if another 9/11 should occur, deal with it as severe as we have in the arsenal. Downs Syndome/Thanksgiving
November 26, 2008 - 17:42 ET by bigtimermb...
Here is another story that brought tears to my eyes regarding this special day...thought I would share it here too.
The Folded Napkin
A Truckers Story about Thanksgiving
I try not to be biased, but I had my doubts about hiring Stevie. His placement counselor assured me that he would be a good, reliable busboy. But I had never had a mentally handicapped employee and wasn't sure I wanted one. I wasn't sure how my customers would react to Stevie.
He was short, a little dumpy with the smooth facial features and thick-tongued speech of Downs Syndrome. I wasn't worried about most of my trucker customers because truckers don't generally care who buses tables as long as the meatloaf platter is good and the pies are homemade.
The four-wheeler drivers were the ones who concerned me; the mouthy college kids traveling to school; the yuppie snobs who secretly polish their silverware with their napkins for fear of catching some dreaded 'truck stop germ' the pairs of white-shirted business men on expense accounts who think every truck stop waitress wants to be flirted with. I knew those people would be uncomfortable around Stevie so I closely watched him for the first few weeks.
I shouldn't have worried. After the first week, Stevie had my staff wrapped around his stubby little finger, and within a month my truck regulars had adopted him as their official truck stop mascot.
After that, I really didn't care what the rest of the customers' thought of him. He was like a 21-year-old in blue jeans and Nikes, eager to laugh and eager to please, but fierce in his attention to his duties. Every salt and pepper shaker was exactly in its place, not a breadcrumb or coffee spill was visible when Stevie got done with the table. Our only problem was persuading him to wait to clean a table until after the customers were finished. He would hover in the background, shifting his weight from one foot to the other, scanning the dining room until a table was empty. Then he would scurry to the empty table and carefully bus dishes and glasses onto his cart and meticulously wipe the table up with a practiced flourish of his rag.
If he thought a customer was watching, his brow would pucker with added concentration. He took pride in doing his job exactly right, and you had to love how hard he tried to please each and every person he met.
Over time, we learned that he lived with his mother, a widow who was disabled after repeated surgeries for cancer. They lived on their Social Security benefits in public housing two miles from the truck stop. Their social worker, who stopped to check on him every so often, admitted they had fallen between the cracks. Money was tight, and what I paid him was probably the difference between them being able to live together and Stevie being sent to a group home. That's why the restaurant was a gloomy place that morning last August, the first morning in three years that Stevie missed work.
He was at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester getting a new valve or something put in his heart. His social worker said that people with Downs Syndrome often have heart problems at an early age so this wasn't unexpected, and there was a good chance he would come through the surgery in good shape and be back at work in a few months.
A ripple of excitement ran through the staff later that morning when word came that he was out of surgery, in recovery, and doing fine.
Frannie, the head waitress, let out a war hoop and did a little dance in the aisle when she heard the good news.
Belle Ringer, one of our regular trucker customers, stared at the sight of this 50-year-old grandmother of four doing a victory shimmy beside his table.
Frannie blushed, smoothed her apron and shot Belle Ringer a withering look.
He grinned. 'OK, Frannie , what was that all about?' he asked.
'We just got word that Stevie is out of surgery and going to be okay.'
'I was wondering where he was. I had a new joke to tell him. What was the surgery about?' !
Frannie quickly told Belle Ringer and the other two drivers sitting at his booth about Stevie's surgery, then sighed: 'Yeah, I'm glad he is going to be OK,' she said. 'But I don't know how he and his Mom are going to handle all the bills. From what I hear, they're barely getting by as it is.' Belle Ringer nodded thoughtfully, and Frannie hurried off to wait on the rest of her tables. Since I hadn't had time to round up a busboy to replace Stevie and really didn't want to replace him, the girls were busing their own tables that day until we decided what to do.
After the morning rush, Frannie walked into my office. She had a couple of paper napkins in her hand and a funny look on her face.
'What's up?' I asked.
'I didn't get that table where Belle Ringer and his friends were sitting cleared off after they left, and Pony Pete and Tony Tipper were sitting there when I got back to clean it off,' she said. 'This was folded and tucked under a coffee cup.'
She handed the napkin to me, and three $20 bills fell onto my desk when I opened it. On the outside, in big, bold letters, was printed 'Something For Stevie'.
'Pony Pete asked me what that was all about,' she said, 'so I told him about Stevie and his Mom and everything, and Pete looked at Tony and Tony looked at Pete, and they ended up giving me this.' She handed me another paper napkin that had 'Something For Stevie' scrawled on its outside. Two $50 bills were tucked within its folds. Frannie looked at me with wet, shiny eyes, shook her head and said simply: 'truckers.'
That was three months ago. Today is Thanksgiving, the first day Stevie is supposed to be back to work.
His placement counselor said he's been counting the days until the doctor said he could work, and it didn't matter at all that it was a holiday. He called 10 times in the past week, making sure we knew he was coming, fearful that we had forgotten him or that his job was in jeopardy. I arranged to have his mother bring him to work. I then met them in the parking lot and invited them both to celebrate his day back.
Stevie was thinner and paler, but couldn't stop grinning as he pushed through the doors and headed for the back room where his apron and busing cart were waiting.
'Hold up there, Stevie, not so fast,' I said. I took him and his mother by their arms. 'Work can wait for a minute. To celebrate you coming back, breakfast for you and your mother is on me!' I led them toward a large corner booth at the rear of the room.
I could feel and hear the rest of the staff following behind as we marched through the dining room. Glancing over my shoulder, I saw booth after booth of grinning truckers empty and join the procession. We stopped in front of the big table. Its surface was covered with coffee cups, saucers and dinner plates, all sitting slightly crooked on dozens of folded paper napkins. 'First thing you have to do, Stevie, is clean up this mess,' I said. I tried to sound stern.
Stevie looked at me, and then at his mother, then pulled out one of the napkins. It had 'Something for Stevie' printed on the outside. As he picked it up, two $10 bills fell onto the table.
Stevie stared at the money, then at all the napkins peeking from beneath the tableware, each with his name printed or scrawled on it. I turned to his mother. 'There's more than $10,000 in cash and checks on that table, all from truckers and trucking companies that heard about your problems. 'Happy Thanksgiving.'
Well, it got real noisy about that time, with everybody hollering and shouting, and there were a few tears, as well.
But you know what's funny?
While everybody else was busy shaking hands and hugging each other, Stevie, with a big, big smile on his face, was busy clearing all the cups and dishes from the table.
Best worker I ever hired.

Happily hunkering in the bunker
November 26, 2008 - 14:09 ET by anneftxOur kids are strewn all across the country and most are spending the holiday with spouse's family. We'll see what happens at Christmas. Our older son and his lady love will be here.
I very much enjoy cooking and, aside from getting a turkey breast rather than an entire bird, our menu is probably much like yours.
We can afford to fly or drive, but choose not to this year because air travel is a royal pain in the derriere and highway traffic is ridiculous.
For Christmas, well, we're celebrating in mid-January. Our children can fly for less and congestion is minimal. There's no reason to confine Thankgiving to one day -- I wake up grateful every morning. Same is true for Christmas. One can acknowledge the wonder of God any old day.
A very fine holiday season to all.

November 26, 2008 - 14:29 ET by nwahsI'm cooking Thanksgiving dinner for the first time in my life :)
Turkey

It isn't as scary as it seems. I know how to cook, but we've always went elsewhere for Thanksgiving.

November 27, 2008 - 00:03 ET by porpoiseboyis actually a tropical tuber almost never seen in the usa. when the sweet tater folks came up with this pretty red sweet tater they decided to call it a yam so no one would cornfuse it with the more starchy white sweet tater...even though they are the same plant.......and that's the rest of the yarn

I think yam is from Africa
November 27, 2008 - 00:56 ET by nwahsI think yam is the African variety of sweet potato and the names got switched around with the African vocabulary in the south. Like gumbo is actually derived from the African name of Okra (kigombo). Thats why you can't technically have gumbo without Okra.
Yams
November 27, 2008 - 01:08 ET by cocodrieThe african yam which can grow up to 7 feet long is a tuber not related to what is known here as a yam. What we call a yam is a root. Although it is called a sweet potato our yam is really not a potato. White potatoes are tubers and not roots.

November 26, 2008 - 15:26 ET by celatorWe are driving to NH to have Thanksgiving Dinner with my son, daughter in law, our granddaughter, and my son's in-laws, who are really wonderful people. We will talk a little politics (we are all conservatives), but mostly enjoy one another's company and tell family stories (again ;=]).
I'm going to try to move the conversation at some point to how much we have to be thankful for, living in this amazing country. We will bless the Lord devotely at mealtime (I will probably lead grace) and remember how much we owe to Him and his tremendous love for all of us.
We wish everyone here at NB a most blessed Thanksgiving, and thank you for all your insights, thought-provoking comments and concern for our nation in these difficult times. God is with us. Always.

November 26, 2008 - 15:34 ET by ricklailI am going to hang around here. I have 2 of my children and 5 grandkids here. The kids that live in Florida couldn't make it.
The daughter that is married to the Marine at Corry Station is cooking Thanksgiving dinner for the students in his class that couldn't make it home. I am proud of her for doing that. I do want to see her and Neal and my grandkids but what she is doing is more important to me. Besides Neal is being transferred back her to Cherry Point December 16th so I am going to have them around for a while. For that we are thankful.
As we give thanks tomorrow I ask all my NBers to remember those men and women serving this country and protecting our freedom. It is as tough on them as it is their loved ones.

Obama and the stock market.
November 26, 2008 - 21:24 ET by shawn228A big topic when Obama was voted in as the President Elect was how many points the stock market has lost because people are wanting to pull out because of his socialist ways.
Seems many on this site attributed and blamed all of this on Obama winning in a electoral college landside.
The stock market has been coming back with a vengence the past four days gaining a record 15.5 percent since last Thurdays close.
Is this because of Obama and the choices he made for his economic team, or does he only get credit when the market goes down?

November 26, 2008 - 23:41 ET by JerryCome on Shawn. If the last 8 years has taught you anything, it's that a president can be bashed, ridiculed, hated, piloried, and blamed for everything and given credit for nothing. We don't have to have a reason to hate and curse him, and if something starts looking up, we will just move on to the next thing to blame him for.
The far left has taught us well, and I am personally looking forward to being able to constantly bash and ridicule the President and not even have to have a coherrent reason. I think I'll start now.....

Shawn
November 27, 2008 - 22:23 ET by Noel SheppardShawn,
The market was amazingly oversold last Thursday. What the Obama team did last Friday was very clever: with an hour to go before the close, on the day many options expire, they leaked the information about Geithner. This created a nice short squeeze, and produced a solid 500 point rally before a holiday-shortened week.
What we saw in the following three days was a continuation of such INCLUDING the bailout of Citicorp which he had NOTHING to do with. Do you think the HUGE rally in financial stocks this week had ANYTHING to do with the Citicorp bailout? Anything? And, do you think this bailout had ANYTHING to do with this week's rally? ANYTHING?
In the end, it's just four days, and just a bear market rally. Is it an impressive one? Sure. But not as impressive as what happened in 1933. Of course, the market did NOTHING but go sideways the next two years.
And, there was a VERY IMPRESSIVE four-day rally in 1932. That didn't lead to much either:
That all said, should the announcements Obama made this week be credited for some of this rally? Maybe. However, I think the Citicorp bailout, along with a more than 50 bp drop in mortgage rates -- signaling the possible thawing of the credit markets -- along with a tremendously oversold market had much more to do with it.
You asked. ns

Noel, regardless how things went in 1932 that was not my point. I look at it much simple terms. The market went up before the election, you immediately pumped it up to a rumor that Senator McCaiin was gaining in the polls and the race was tightening.
After Obama won the election, I'm sorry I'f I am being trollish, but it sounded like glee how you and many hear said the dow dropping was his fault. Now there has been a huge 4 day rally and almost all of Obamas losses in the Dow have been recouped. Not one peep from you. I know this is a conservative site, but I was hoping you might give credit where credit is due.

Tell me the truth: how much have you had to drink? :-)
Leg of lamb with lobster bisque. Yummy.
That said, I thought I did give him credit. I thought it was smart to leak the information on expiration Friday just before the final hour. After all, the last hours have been TERRIBLE for this market since Election Day. Correct?
Well, why do you think the information about Geithner was leaked at about 3PM ET Friday when the official announcement wasn't going to transpire until Monday morning? Think it had anything to do with the knowledge that this would likely cause a HUGE short squeeze before the weekend, and create A LOT of buzz about the pending announcement? I do, and acknowledged that.
However, I think the rest of the rally this week had much more to do with the Citicorp bailout and the apparent thawing in the credit markets combined with an oversold condition.
In the end, this is just four days, shawn, and we have NOT recouped all we lost since Election Day:
We closed at 1003 on Election Day (S&P). We closed at 748 last Thursday, and 887 yesterday. As such, we are still 11 percent below where we were on Election Day. That means that this still currently qualifies as the second-worst post-presidential election stock market performance since at least 1900. The worst is negative 15.8 percent (through December 31).
If this excites you, shawn, you must not own much stock -- or must be drunk! :-) ns

Also where the Dow is right now, I believe it was much lower under Bush before Obama took over right? :-)
I realize your a conservative site, but I just find it funny you are so quick to point fingers to Obama winning. I mean before the election you ripped me a new one, because I had the gaul to question a rumor.

Bush kept that growth growing and then some, in fact we grew so much we passed 14000. Tell me where Clinton, George Bush Sr, Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter where there was as dramatic a drop as 14000 down to under 8000. That is down 6000 points where we were a little over a year ago.

Yes, growing during the tech bubble until it burst in March 2000 starting a bear market that brought the Dow under 8000. Was that Clinton's fault? No.
Now, financial services companies, under legislation passed and signed under Clinton, engaged in behaviors that have created the worst economic environment in decades. Is that Bush's fault? If it is, can you name the legislation that was enacted since January 2001 that is responsible for the current financial crisis?
Let me make this easy: if Bush is responsible for this current bear market, please tell me what he did to cause it? Please? Pretty please? With sugar on top? ns

You're doing sighs now? Forgive me, but I consider that rather pedestrian and sophomoric.
Let's cut to the chase: in the three days after Election Day, the market dropped 7.1 percent, the worst such post-presidential election performance in the modern era. Regardless of what happened the past four days, the market is down 11 percent since Obama was elected. Do you think this has ANYTHING to do with him? Or is it Bush's fault?
And if you give me another sigh, you'll be doing a Billy Idol impersonation! ns

November 28, 2008 - 01:50 ET by shawn228I apologize about the sigh. It was uncalled for. I believe it is a volitile market and I do not believe they were Obama's or Bush fault. Its pretty black and white regarding this election, you refuse to admit they they pretty much called over 500 races right on the money, imagine if you did that in Vegas? Was it a fluke they said Obama was winning in Indiana? A state that has not voted Dem in 44 years?
As far as modern histroy goes, they had Carter and Reagan at a tie a few weeks before the election and Reagan won by a much larger margin than predicted, but other than that I tend to think of how acurate the polls have been since the 2000 election.

you refuse to admit they they pretty much called over 500 races right on the money, Really? And I seriously doubt this; reading the NYT you would be convinced the United States shut down on November 4 as riots convulsed the nation as people fought violently for the privilege of voting for The Shahinshah FIRST!
Shawn, if polls ARE SO PERFECT AND FLAWLESS and you so vehemently claim, why don't we just cancel Election Day? We'll just take ONE poll ONCE and just say "well, that's good enough for me!!!"
So continue to worship and venerate your precious polls; that doesn't stop me form voting because strangely we still hold these things called elections. I find myself to be consistently immune to blind faith.
And just because polls - again, not all by a long shot, I remember everyone gushing over Zogby and they blew the 2000 election IIRC, SEEM more accurate now, in your easily deluded world view, doesn't mean they won't blow it in the near future. November 28, 2008 - 02:26 ET by RESTLESS 1Shawn, if you want to quibble over tenths of a percentage point, go right ahead. I figured that obama would get 300-350 electoral votes. I figured in 1980 that Reagan had that election in the bag, and even more in '84. I figured that Clinton would win both elections, but I didn't figure he probably would not have if not for Perot.
As for the Cowboys, I think they should get wins in Pitt, against Balt. and at Philly, and hopefully exact some revenge against the Giants. They will need 3 out of 4 I think, but maybe 10 wins gets them in. I think they will need 11 though. They were probably going to need to win five out of seven after Romo's return, and so far they have three of them, so I think it looks good. Roy Williams will turn out to be a huge pick up, hopefully this year, but definitely in the future. He has already opened up Owens for the big catches, and he is one hell of a possesion receiver.

November 28, 2008 - 01:43 ET by RESTLESS 1Happy Thanksgiving buddy. I'm thankful for the guys like you, who wear the uniform and do us proud. I'm glad you made it back safe, and I hope you, your family, and your buddies still in theater have a safe and great Thanksgiving.

Not Too Many Changes
November 27, 2008 - 00:02 ET by The Smokin FrogThanksgiving Day does not mean anything different for me because of the economy.
But I do agree with Gothampc, and have a renewed interest in American history because of this past election and after watching the movie 'John Adams', and I'm especially intrigued by Thomas Jefferson these days. He and Adams and others were great gifts and great minds. And I am grateful for this country, this republic that they formed. Although I think the republic is headed south. It has been for some time, but this election took a serious left turn.
My husband is my greatest gift in this life, and I am thankful for him. The trials of the year have not changed that either. I'm sure he is thrilled.
Also, I am especially thankful for the gift of faith in the forgiveness of sins provided by Jesus Christ. And I am still thankful that we can still preach this great message of mercy and grace in our churches. I do pray that all of our churches would preach this, instead of moralistic or prosperity messages that have been filling our pulpits. The culture surely hears a muddled message with that stuff.
We won't be traveling this holiday, but we never do. So no difference there.
Everyone is at a point where health (or lack there of) is really on our minds. You know, like, will the turkey dinner destroy my ulcer...things like that. That's a joke. But a good turkey dinner is actually nostalgia at this point. Oh well, everything breaks down.
I am thankful for sites like this where people care about what is happening in the country, and I wish everyone a good and happy Thanksgiving Day.

Efforts Of Mankind
November 27, 2008 - 09:59 ET by The Smokin FrogYes it is true.
"It is unfortunate that the efforts of mankind to recover the freedom of which they have been so long deprived, will be accompanied with violence, with errors, and even with crimes. But while we weep over the means, we must pray for the end." Thomas Jefferson
But we keep trying until time is no more.

Btw....be happy somebody loves you, even though she may not agree politically or see the right light as we think she should ...know what I mean?
I have a mom who rid herself of all of her kids except one...years ago, let alone what she did to us all physically/emotionally, along with my step-father is beyond despicable.
So count your blessings.

Not so much a night owl at this hour...
November 27, 2008 - 07:03 ET by Michael30Rukus, I think we would be called early birds at this point... Glad to hear you will be with your loved ones though, I made it back to Detroit by the skin of my teeth myself. Not exactly a festive place, but it has its charm (I'll try to find some, it's gotta be here somewhere, freelance writing is indeed a poor choice of vocation...)
Ugh, you are with the in-laws huh, I would recommend an unhealthy ammount of beer preceeded by a fine Scotch...
Happy Thanksgiving to you sir,
Mike
P.S. On a personal note, I must confess I know what you mean when you say the past few weeks have been difficult. If you ever need to vent, please feel free, I wish I could do more for you, but that is all I can offer.
