Russian President Dmitry Medvedev plans to travel this month to Cuba and Venezuela, which have increasing military and trade ties with Moscow...The Soviet Union was a stalwart supporter of Cuban leader Fidel Castro during the Cold War. Under Hugo Chavez, Venezuela has moved to buy millions of dollars in Russian weaponry and invited Russian energy giants to drill in the country's oil fields. A Russian naval flotilla is on its way to the Caribbean to hold joint military exercises with Venezuelan forces.

No more allowing kids to go from college to public office without real-world experience. No more ignorance about capitalism, and no more intellectual hypnotism about socialistic programs, fed into their heads by socialist and communist professors.
Similarly, no one should be allowed to practice law, teaching, or journalism without business experience first.

Take some examples:
In NYC, Bloomberg wants to put a 5 cent per bag tax on plastic grocery bags. While 5 cents doesn't seem like a lot, it still adds to the price of food. His policy shows more concern about the environment than about how citizens will make ends meet.
A year or so ago, Jon Corzine was in a serious auto accident because his driver was driving too fast. So what does he do? Starts trying to write all this legislation about seat belts and speed limits. Because he didn't have the character to tell his driver to drive safely, everyone in NJ has to be over-regulated.

Think about the age requirements that already exist in the Constitution for President and other offices. At the time the Constitution was written, most people were working by age 12 or so. Earlier if they grew up on a farm.
So by the time they got to those required ages, they had 15, 20, or more years of real-world experience.
Nowadays, a kid can grow up, go to college, and have zero real-world experience, and have his/her head filled with an equal number of years of academic opinions.
Even if it's not perfect, I prefer the real-world experience.

We all have to deal with the popular culture, and no doubt some get caught up in it. But there are many who don't; for one, Max DuPree comes to mind as an example of an exemplary business leader.
But if the popular culture embraced the expectation for character and leadership, wouldn't the people coming out into the workforce be mentally more focused? If the expectations were higher, wouldn't there be a better chance that the results would also be higher?
If there were a mandatory business requirement, think of how that would change the environment of thought in the experience of childhood. We could get imaginative and silly here and project that kids would ask Santa for that cool "Jr CEO" game, but in actuality, that might not be a bad influence. Maybe better than the influence of rock stars or auto thieves...
The point is that if future leaders had all those years of business experience, don't you think it would be a lot less likely that they would aquiesce easily to ideas like handouts without responsibilities, or regulation rather than accountability, or consumption without contribution?
I really think that successfully shouldering responsibilites in the private sector should precede taking responsibilities in the public.

Amend the constitution to limit a federal judges term to a number of years, I prefer 10, rather than being stuck with some of these jerks for life.
Make sure that your candidate is actually eligible to office by providing proof of age and citizenship. Instead of allowing the parties to "vet" their candidate.

Anyhow, setting that aside, this friend of mine is living with her boyfriend, and has been for years. If either of them had any burning interest in getting married, I'd know about it. It seems they're content to just cohabitate. Fine, they're grown ups, but it makes me wonder: how many of the go go gay marriage heterosexuals out there are married? How does first hand knowledge of marriage correlate with opinion of gay marriage? The handful of polls I've looked at are broken down by political ideology, sex, age, religion, maybe income but not marital status. Seems like a big gap there in knowledge.

It is much like the temporary armistice that came after the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, which really settled nothing and eventually led to the bloody continuation of WW I.
Yes, the USSR collapsed under the weight of the inherent, fatal flaws of Marxism, but in the years since has managed to rebuild itself to a certain degree. Even more problematic for the West is that Russia now has access to the technology it once lacked, which once upon a time prevented the USSR from taking advantage of its vast store of natural resources.
What is truly disheartening is that the American people, who appear to be blissfully re-shingling their roofs as the country around them burns, have seen fit to install a man as CIC who is less than clueless and, as I see it, appears to be preparing to affect what will essentially be a surrender in the GWOT.
It even gets worse when you take into account that this nation is quite literally teetering on the brink of financial and economic impotency. Believe me, if you, like me, are already losing sleep over the specter of an Obama presidency, then you probably shouldn't read this.
Yep, the perfect storm is brewing, alright, and we will be damn lucky to survive it.
