Are we in bad shape? Sure. But it is the media who is running around and telling everyone the sky is falling.

The government's only role in this is to determine if there was any fraud or any malfeasance and punish the perpetrators.

Skimming some of his publications suggests to me that Roubini is from the salt water Keynsian school but diverges from them somewhat.   Harvard's Economics department 20 to 30 years ago, where Roubini got his education, was still dominated by the thinking of J.K. Galbraith.  JKB was still emeritus faculty then.  In fact, he did not pass until 2 years ago.

Still, Roubini shows some sense that JKG never had.  He at least understands there are limits on what Government can do.  His writings are very high level macroeconomics.  I get the impression he is OK with fiat money and government manipulation of economy through monetary and fiscal policy.  He just thinks the government has done a poor job of 'managing' the economy and 'smart people' like him could do it better.

FWIW, I think he is both right and wrong.  It will get worse, but it does not have to.  If the government would disengage from manipulating the economy and most especially, cut taxes on the rich, those most able to form capital, the economy could quickly recover.  Continue down the Democrat path, and we get a full blown depression lasting 10 or 15 years.  That is grim.  And that is where Obama and the MSM are leading us.

There was no droppin' of any g's as there were none to drop nor offend those in New York, but then there was no New York and now no Los Angeles from the praise for Obama.
There was not even any Obama any more as he had fled to his bunker in Germany like that other great leader of the "vor Zeit" or the before time.

Then the sentence came which so many now thought they recalled," WE..........WE........We could have had PAH PAH PAH EE............We could have had peace if we had chosen John McCain".

.........and then there was silence, because all the children knew then there was no going back to peace once all you have is war.
