So So sports weekend
September 27, 2008 - 10:43 ET by ricklailThe baseball races are over except for the White Sox-Twins and Mets -Phillies. Looks like the Brewers are out. Only the division winner between The White Sox and the Twins will make it to the playoffs. It may not be decided until Monday because the Sox have a game to make up aganist the Tigers. What about the Red Sox having to play the Angels? Don't look good for them. My Dodgers are in with the division crown. They'll be playing the NL East Champ.
Now on to football. I guess GA-Albama is the biggest game on the schedule. GO DAWGS. I heard earlier in the week that the DAWGS were going to wear the black jerseys to honor the retirement of the one of the greastest, if not the greatest, broadcaster, Larry Munson. For you Tide fans, I like Eli Gold too. After Woody Durham for the Heels he maybe the next best.
It is going to be bad for the Vols to start 0-3. Goodbye Phat Phil. You know I am a Tarheel through and through but the SEC is tops in football.
My Heels travel down to Miami. I like the way Blonde puts it. You can't spell scum without UM. Going to be tough with a new QB at the helm for the Hells. Mike Paulus is the brother of Greg Paulus over at DOOK.
Good race out in Kansas tomorrow. I am pulling for the Childress cars to have a big day especially Clint Bowyer because it is his home track.
The Panthers take on the Falcons. Always a good game. I think my Panthers take them but not if Delhomme stays on the ground like he did last week. The weather is going to be warm. No controlled temp. The little wussies from Atlanta don't do too good in the heat.
The Buffaloes travel down to play the Seminoles in 90 degree heat. I don't think the Buffs are conditioned for this. But who cares who wins anyway.
If pro is the opposite of con what is the opposite of progress? Congress!
Good morning Rick
September 27, 2008 - 11:01 ET by BlondeHa, your Heels are here today? What time do they play (not that it will be on TV....the Canes never sell out). Beware Sgt Rock and his insults for demeaning the criminals from Miami.
My Gators are on (thank you local Honda dealers!) in half an hour. GO GATORS.
Auburn plays Tennessee today, I think Phat Phil is done for if he loses. The fans are HOT! I've been logging on to the Knoxville paper to read the fan comments. They're kind of mirroring the comments about Congress....paying the fatheads to do NOTHING!
Speaking of firing coaches....the Ol' Ball Coach? I hate to be disloyal, but I really laughed about that one.
The Dawgs/Tide is going to be a good game.
Oh Geez, Neil Cavuto is interviewing Ted Nugent...."I wouldn't trust the Congress to shovel out my dog kennels". LOL.

September 27, 2008 - 11:46 ET by ricklailThe game is on here. Looks like better than half the seats are empty. From the looks of the first drive it is going to be a long day. 8 plays 89 yards.
I like Ted Nugent because of his stance on guns.
If pro is the opposite of con what is the opposite of progress? Congress!
Yes. I'm new here! Now, about those Beermakers...
September 27, 2008 - 11:25 ET by BadgerStateDaveAre you looking at the same standings I am?
NL East
Philadelphia 90-70
New York 88-72 -2
NL Wild Card
Milwaukee 89-71
New York 88-72 -1
And as it sits now, the Dodgers play the Cubs.
Dave
September 27, 2008 - 11:42 ET by ricklailI picked up the paper from Friday that had Thursday's scores. My thinking was that the Cubs got to play the wild card team, it didn't matter if they came from the same division.
If pro is the opposite of con what is the opposite of progress? Congress!
Ok! lol. Actually...
September 27, 2008 - 12:22 ET by BadgerStateDaveThe league's best record is the #1 Seed. The Wild Card team is ALWAYS the #4 Seed, regardless of record. The #1 plays #4 in the Divisional round UNLESS they are from the same division. If #1 and #4 are from the same division, then #1 plays the Division winner with the worst Division-winning record, and the #4 Wild Card plays the Division-winner that had the second best record.
Yep!
September 27, 2008 - 11:35 ET by RukusThe Tide/Dawg game is gonna be the game to watch today. The Tide have
been whoopin' butt so far (34, 20, 41 and 49 points for, sheesh, from
an Alabama team, wow!) I think it's gonna be a defense-fest today. Roll
Tide!!
BTW, I do like GA also, but not over the Tide.
Just to compare for giggles:
Tide points for: 144 Against: 37
Dawgs point for: 142 Against: 55
This is gonna be fun!!!
Only one can go to the playoffs
September 27, 2008 - 18:29 ET by nkviking75Misread the post I was responding to.
Never mind.
Go Twins!
NK...
September 27, 2008 - 18:53 ET by BlondeI'll root for the Twins...just because.
I still am wondering what happened to that Christmas ornament...I'm sure it crashed a couple of years ago, but it still bugs me!

Commiserating with Blonde about the Gators
September 27, 2008 - 22:12 ET by nkviking75Thank you Blonde, and sorry about your Gators.
As for the Twins, it looks like they're trying to back their way in to the playoffs. They played 3 exciting games agains the White Sox this week, putting them in first place, and then they dropped two to lowly Kansas City with one game to go. Fortunately for them, Chicago has also lost the last two games.
I just read an article about your Heismann winning quarterback. He sounds like an impressive young man as well as a talented athlete.

September 27, 2008 - 15:26 ET by ricklailThe Heels travel to UConn next week. They are 5-0 after the win over Louisville. Then on the 11th the Fighting Irish come to town. The next 2 weeks are going to be tough. Sure wish they would have beaten VA Tech

September 27, 2008 - 14:44 ET by MrShyMy Mets suck, and are choking it away in September........ a-gain.
All of my teams either A) suck right from the beginning of the season, or B) choke at the end or in the playoffs (should I be so lucky. :p)
Granted, we only have one ace pitcher (the only one winning us games at this point) and then a hodge-podge of too-young and over-the-hill guys (see: Pedro) and our ace closer went down with an injury in August.
Still, we have no heart, and our "great" hitters are the real choke jobs.

That being said, the Pirates/Mets rivalry back in the 1980's was always cool!

And I mean they WON the game through sheer guts and determination.

September 27, 2008 - 15:17 ET by ricklailI had to kind of be neutral in that game. Vivian Lee who contributes here and has her own blog, Conservativebelle.com is a grad and big fan of the Rebels. I converse with her on occasion so I didn't want to alienate her either.
You can feel good my Heels beat Miami. Marry Land beat Clem's son.

September 27, 2008 - 20:17 ET by RukusWow! I wasn't even going to watch more that a quarter or two, figured the Gators would be blowing them out by half-time. After 2 quarters I was wonderin' if someone was puttin' grease on the ball! 4 fumbles, three lost! No way! I haven't seen FL ever give up the ball that many times, ever! I live in MS so I was leaning for Ole Miss, never saw this coming! Maybe the Gators were looking ahead to the next game. Dunno, I am just stunned the Rebels beat the Gators. Sorry Blonde, them's the breaks in the bad-assed SEC. I'm even more stunned that my Tide is whoopin' GA 31-zip at half-time! Wow! I'll root for FL until they play AL or TN. Good luck!
Roll Tide!

Ole Miss isn't a bad team.
September 27, 2008 - 21:23 ET by HermanoOle Miss isn't a bad team. Save for a last second field goal, they would have beaten Wake. Of course, my Deacons beat themselves today by pulling a Florida State - 7 turnovers against Navy. At least it is not a loss in the ACC. Oh, and as if that wasn't bad enough, the #1 (until the next poll) field hockey team lost to Maryland. Bad day for the Old Gold and Black.

September 27, 2008 - 15:04 ET by Roger the ShrubberYour boy Timmy couldn't get that 4th-and-1 done.
Tough loss! I can hear the massive choking sounds all they way up here in Pittsburgh, where, fortunately, my Pitt boys managed to win at Syracuse (pathetic!)...
Fla loses. Miami loses. Now, if only FSU will lose to Colorado today, it will be a great day!
Thx, Rog.
September 27, 2008 - 15:20 ET by BlondeI'm sure Timmy feels badly, but sheesh....he can't be expected to carry the whole team.
Four very bad plays, (two dropped balls, one horribly busted pass coverage, and a blocked punt!)....none of which had to do with Tebow.
Gotta give it to Old Miss, though, they are always tough, and they gutted it out today. We were ahead 17-7 at the half.
Did you know it is the Geezer Bowden's 500th game today? I kinda hope he'll win it, then he can retire and my Nole friends (yes, I actually have some) can quit gnashing their teeth.

My very first year at UF, we were....Ohhhh, ten and one. The very first game I went to as a Gator, the frat boys had taken like fifty gallons of paint and grafittied the field "DUMP DICKEY". The G'ville Fire Dept was trying to remove it with fire hoses as we marched in before the game, LOL.
Thanks for your concern though. That's very sweet.

September 27, 2008 - 20:00 ET by ricklailGood golly Miss Molly what is going on between the hedges? I know Bama had the best recruiting class in the nation but they weren't supposed to be good until next year.
I am going to have to eat crow when I said it was a so so sports weekend. So far it hasn't been good for ranked teams playing unranked teams. Most of the unranked teams had a field day.
Could the Gators and the Dawgs both go down to lower ranked opponents? Could LSU jump up to 2 and Bama to 3 in next week's polls?

September 27, 2008 - 23:45 ET by Carl KolchakVanderbilt and Kentucky are the 2 leading teams in the SEC East. I'm surprised Jer isn't posting about that. I don't care much for Vanderbilt, but their current coach seems like a really good guy, and they went into Ole Miss and beat them at Ole Miss. This makes Vanderbilt look pretty good, even though it is painful for me to admit that. Jer always admits he was a Vanderbilt fan even when they weren't doing good, so he isn't a bandwagon fan. I just hope they start losing soon, because I don't know what I'd do if they win the SEC East.

September 28, 2008 - 07:28 ET by ricklailThe Obama campaign has dispatched operatives to Gainesvilles and Athens to help the Gators and Dawgs put the spin on their losses yesterday.
