For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Can Palin also impact Congressional races?
A potential shift in fortunes for the Republicans in Congress is seen in the latest USA Today/Gallup survey, with the Democrats now leading the Republicans by just 3 percentage points, 48% to 45%, in voters' "generic ballot" preferences for Congress. This is down from consistent double-digit Democratic leads seen on this measure over the past year.
Wow! Has her nomination changed this campaign season that much? How do you explain that? Is it panic time for Obama and his do-nothing party? Will the failure of the Democrat-controlled 110th Congress to address any of the nation's problems -- in particular, rising energy prices -- hurt them in November now that Palin has so energized the nation?

Community Organizer
September 12, 2008 - 13:03 ET by cvgbuckeyeRegarding this "Jesus was a community organizer" business, I have a couple of questions:
1. Show me ONE PLACE in the Bible where Jesus advocated that people could not help themselves and should seek the assistance of organized government,,,,,,,show me ONE PLACE.
2. What was the government community organizer's role when the water was turned to wine, when the 3,000 were fed, when the 5,000 were fed and when the 5,000 were fed again, when the fishermen's nets were filled to running over, when the blind were made to see, where the lame were made to walk, when the dead were raised? How much government funds was Jesus provided? And on and on and on. SHOW ME THIS IN ONE PLACE IN THE BIBLE!
3. What I saw was faith based action and faith based results.
These people are completely clueless regarding all these things and do nothing but shed the light of day on their ignorance regarding a man who they know not.

September 12, 2008 - 10:08 ET by Free ThinkerI think people are starting to pay attention to the elections now. With Sarah Palin's boost, an increasingly inept Congress that is hitting voters in their pockets with the run up of gas prices and unwillingness to drill mentality, and the realization that Barak Obama is an empty suit is causing those swing voters to lean in the republicans favor. It is probably too early to tell but I don't see doom and gloom for Republicans. I really believe McCain will win the Presidency but Congress will remain relatively unchanged.

Trending toward GOP
September 12, 2008 - 10:46 ET by Gat New YorkI have believed that once we got past Labor Day, the trend toward the GOP would become more pronounced for two reasons:
1. Obama's background and lack of credible experience would become more evident.
2. The most impotent Congress in modern history will be vulnerable to the kick-the-bums-out attitude particularly regarding their lack of concern about gas prices right now - not 10 years from now.
It is very possible that the GOP can retake the House (not the Senate) with a McCain/Palin landslide.

We would walk from campus to Groves Stadium passed the great glass menagerie that was a corporate bldg for RJR next to a tobacco processing plant - great smell in the fall when curing. RJR donated the $40M bldg to Wake when I was there, then offered to lease it from Wake. At the time it was the single biggest corporate donation to a university. Len and Bones were legend, but Piccolo and Arnold Palmer had a dorm named after them. My 20th CR is coming up this fall. I do not know if I will go. The game will be good, though.

Democrats on Capitol Hill fear Obama fallout
A Democratic fundraiser for Congressional candidates said some planned to distance themselves from Mr Obama and not attack Mr McCain.
“If people are voting for McCain it could help Republicans all the way down the ticket, even in a year when the Democrats should be sweeping all before us,” said the fundraiser, a former Hillary Clinton supporter.
“There is a growing sense of doom among Democrats I have spoken to . . . People are going crazy, telling the campaign ‘you’ve got to do something’.”
SWEET!
Concern was greatest among first-term representatives who won seats in traditionally Republican districts in the landslide of 2006. “Several of them face a real fight to hold on to those seats,” the fundraiser said.

I had almost considered sitting out this election...almost...because I did not see anything in John McCain that inspired me as a God and gun clinging, country loving, ultra right wing, conservative Republican. Sarah represents who Americans ARE. We are not what the MSM wants us to be. Most of us are just hard working family folk who want the government out of our pockets and lives. The government should be about protecting our borders and ensuring a secure environment that permits anyone to become whatever they can become so long as they don't infringe on the rights of others...period. And I think Sarah Palin represents that and, consequently, US.

The classic canard that President Bush told people to go "Shopping" during the post 9/11 period instead of serving the country is just FALSE.
In todays LA Times, a story entitled:
"Terror Attacks Are A Driving Force To Serve Country" by Megan Garvey, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer shows what message was actually presented and received by those willing to accept that message.
The US Army spends millions of dollars each year asking people to serve their nation as well as improve their lives in the process, but this message falls of deaf ears - particularly on the left.
Instead, the preferred message that the left awaits is in keeping with their own values. "Tax me higher as I have no civic desire to contribut more voluntarily". Or silliness such as "Make me collect scrap balsa wood". And particularly "Please force me to serve via a draft as I have no civic virtues to serve voluntarily" are the messages they desire to receive.

The Battle of Vienna is extremly important, because the Ottomans in my opinion stood a good chance of conquering Europe if they defeat the Christians at Vienna. Everything about Europe's future would have changed.

September 12, 2008 - 12:00 ET by celatorI note that my state, a solid, solid, solid blue state, has now changed to a "might go either way state" as of this morning, according to the electoral map at Real Clear Politics. This is the first time in about 40 years something has happened like that here. Stunning development, actually. Gov. Palin's effect, no doubt in my mind.

Yup. Mine too. My state
September 12, 2008 - 20:54 ET by celatorYup. Mine too. My state (Maine) has been socially and economically run into the ground by D's for the last 30 years. It's a complete disgrace. And the state media have participated in the trend 100 percent.
Let me give you a media example: The day after Gov. Palin gave her acceptance speech, my local paper had the only reference to her on PAGE NINE!!! And at that, it was an article about what did she really do as commander in chief of the Alaska Guard. As if that were not enough, almost every single letter to the editor in that paper since then has been what a lousy choice McCain/Palin would be.
And YET, just her presence on the ticket is changing the political landscape here. I'm very pumped about this.

September 12, 2008 - 12:23 ET by ricklailI have never lived inside a town/city limits my entire life. I have always lived around a small town. I was born and raised about a mile outside of Maiden NC pop at that time was about 1000. After I married I lived near Dallas NC pop about 2000. Now I live outside of Vanceboro NC pop about 800.
Until I went in the Army, Charlotte was the biggest town I had ever been in. When I was at Fort Hood, I got to go to Dallas, Houston, Austin, Waco, San Antonio. Even Waco was too big for me. I loved the people of Gatesville because they were a lot like the folks in Maiden.
My point is I am getting sick and tired of Dems talking about small towns. There is less crime in small towns. People seem to get along better. It is a different atmosphere all together. I think when all is said and done we’ll see that McCain/Palin has carried those small towns. Their problems is going to be the major cities which as mostly libs and vote that way.
One other reason to live in a small town, we don’t have community organizers.
If pro is the opposite of con what is the opposite of progress? Congress!
I love big cities, BUT...
September 12, 2008 - 19:16 ET by UnsaneI LOVE big cities...even Houston. (But Houston is about the upper limit for me. I have been to NYC and Chicago and could not imagine living in either one.) It was a shame I had to leave it. But that being said, there is no way in hell you will ever catch me looking down on someone for being from a small town.
Hence my extreme displeasure at the elitist snobbery from the Left and others directed at Sarah Palin from being from a small town in a state with a small population.
Whoever casts a vote for Obama-Biden is nothing more than a common thief. Whoever fails to vote against them is nothing more than a moral coward.

September 12, 2008 - 13:07 ET by Indiana Joe"Wow! Has her nomination changed this campaign season that much? How do you explain that?"
Yep, her nomination sealed the deal with the conservative base that had so much trouble swallowing McCain. Just look at the turn-around in posters here. A lot who said they wouldn't bother voting this time will now go pull the lever, check the box, punch the chad for Palin, and the whole ticket. Turnout, turnout, turnout.
She's young, she's fresh, she's conservative without doubt, and she's a true "breath of fresh air," to Obama's "Glade air-freshener" atmosphere. Lots of perfume trying to cover the stink never works as well as opening the windows and airing the place out.

Obama Throws Flower At 9 11 Memorial in New York
September 12, 2008 - 13:11 ET by Lame CherryNewsbusters, Gov. Palin's positive result on the Congressional elections was already noted in a blog here a week ago.
The real story which you missed is Barack Obama throwing a rose at the 9 11 Memorial in New York.
I will post my blog as it will save time.
Every Obama has it's Thorns
This week was supposed to be in New York and the nation a remembrance of 9 11.
Normal adults know there are such things that one can do and things which are simply verboten in such events.
Like,
you do not make a pass at the widow at a funeral or go into a dying
person's hospital room trying to get first chance at buying their home.
Barack Obama's idea though of honoring the dead of September 11th
was to first go on the cocktail circuit in appearing on David
Letterman's show in order to make it a political event and to make
certain to call Sarah Palin the lipstick on the pig of John McCain again.
Next Barack
went over to kiss the ring of Pope Bill in his Harlem office which as
more room and less rats and cockroaches than all black families have
ever experienced except in Madison Square Garden.
The pope though assured the press that Obama
would win easily. Bill did not state if he was talking about winning
the Hillary lottery where she has him tied to a tree twisting in the
wind as she throws dirt clods at him for lousing up her nomination or
if it was the election where he is 10 points down and sinking fast.
The third leg on the Obama 9 11 triple crown of disgrace was something I urge all people to witness as it was 10 year old boy disgusting in what Barack Obama did at the memorial.
Picture in your mind the scene of a bright sunny day. John McCain is standing as you look on the left and Barack Obama is standing on the right.
They approach the memorial all solemn looking. Both men step forward with a rose to lay on the memorial of the dead.
I
will repeat this point. This is a memorial which represents dead people
who are loved, cherished, missed to tears yet by family members who got
to bury bits and pieces of their loved ones as concrete grinds bodies
up into oblivion. This is a holy site and the holiest of holies in New York.
At this point, 47 year old, basketball playing Barack Obama makes his move.
John
McCain 72 year old, broken bodied war veteran makes his move in a body
which does not bend as his bones are fused from not being set correctly
in Vietnam.
As John McCain is making an impossible attempt at bending to lay his rose on the memorial, Barack Obama THROWS HIS ROSE AT THE MEMORIAL.
The
rose whips by McCain who is still struggling to get down and lands in
front of him. John McCain then gets to the point he can bend no more
and lays the rose down.
Barack Obama just stands there unfazed. He has no idea the slap he has just committed to all of the 9 11 dead and their families.
Of course the press is not going to bring this disgrace up, but this is once again the 10 year old Obama who has no idea how to act in public and the 10 year old who doesn't think any farther than himself.
John McCain had the appearance of understanding the gravity of the situation and the meaning of this site. Barack Obama
literally looked like a kid who had better things to do than stand in
the hot sun and his response was to throw a flower at a memorial to get
it over with.
If you can find the feed on this, it is worth watching because it once again exposes the child Barack Obama is in his reprehensible conduct.
The only part worse in this are his enabling parents in Charlie Rose, Charlie Gibson, Brian Williams, Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, Kiran Chetry,
David Letterman etc... all enabling this child when he needs a good
spanking to start considering there are other people in this world
besides himself.
