'Lipstick on a Pig' Open Thread

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama fumbled through what appears to have been a botched joke while campaigning in Lebanon, Virginia, Tuesday:

Other than the awful delivery, what do you think about his statement? Some are accusing Obama of implying that Sarah Palin is a pig. Do you agree, or is that a stretch?

The McCain campaign has already struck back.

He has no mastery of the

He has no mastery of the english language nor of speaking, his only mastery is reading aloud. I think that is all this is, I do not think he was insulting Palin intentionally.

MrSnuggles

I was going to post a separate comment, but since I not only agree with your comment but it is similar to mine I'm going to piggyback off your post.

If you listen to Obama when he is not in front of a teleprompter he has a lot of difficulty forming a clear, coherent sentence. Rush Limbaugh has mentioned this a number of times on his show, including this one Rush titled Off Prompter, Obama Can't Speak.

I've listened to some of the interviews President George W. Bush has given to the news media, and he is without question a better speaker than Obama without the prepared speech and prompter.

---------------

FoxNews contributor and Democrat Kirsten Powers has written article titled How Obama Blew It. Rush Limbaugh read some excerpts from it on his show Tuesday.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

The liberal media continues to sacrifice ethics and morals for the greater cause: This time for the Election of a Democrat to the Presidency of the United States.

Try this Rush

Enough already

I am a republican, but this is rediculous.  Obama didn't mean it as a slam of Palin and McCain knows it, so please stop it, John.  There are plenty of other things to attack Obama with, other than this innocent, often used phrase.  Let's grow up and act like adults, people.

Chuck.... Well a whole

Chuck....

Well a whole lot us do think it was an intentional slam.

If Obama didn't mean it as one, instead of being defiant, he should of been politically expedient and come out with a half-a$$ed excuse as an apology...but he is neither smart let alone politically expedient...the msm jut gives him a pass all the time...his so-called slip-ups are really stacking up, from his 57 states, my muslim religion, flipping the bird at Hill, now this...nah...he never means anything intentional...

...and he shouldn't be questioned or criticized, I think so, he is running for President after-all..

Btw...if this was reversed, and this was said in the same context at a campaign spot speaking of Michelle...you can be sure he would demand an apology, along with the msm leading he way.

He is an empty-suit, plus dumb as a box of rocks.

As I said in the Open Thread......

It doesnt matter what he meant or not.......the crowd behind him took it as him calling Palin a pig.......This, I think is going to really damage him.  His campaign is in full spin mode........it matters not, it is the perception of what he said.

"If a man does his best, what else is there"?

General George S. Patton Jr.

Considering Obama is from rural America

It not surpriseing he used that expression.Chicago is farm country isnt it?

True.....but...........

as I said, it is the perception from the rest of the country, that matters.........Obviously, he should have chosen a different analogy, especially so close to Palins comments.....Major gaffe IMO.

"If a man does his best, what else is there"?

General George S. Patton Jr.

Begrunt

I was kidding.I fine it surpriseing he would use that being from a big city.It is a old joke and I agree that is a major gaffe.

don't forget...

He spent some time in Kansas raised by his grandparents; the typical white ones.

AF

Maybe that is it.He has been countrified.

Here in Kansas

We will still call a spade a spade.

I am sure if that was uttered by Palin it would be considered a racial slur even though it is still a common saying in these parts and has nothing to do with race.

Another saying comes to mind when looking at the Obamanoids, they're buying a pig in a poke.

Sorry well......had my.....

"too serious" hat on tonight...LOL  :-p

"If a man does his best, what else is there"?

General George S. Patton Jr.

Begrunt

That is ok I agree with you on the perception. In this day and age with all the technology it is important. That commercial about image is everything is spot on.Anymore it is.I dont think it is a good thing but that is the way it is.

Bingo!

Bingo!

If it wasn't intentional, why didn't he immediately apologize? Either way, this is beyond stupid.

back to the silly season

because he can't think that fast? Seriously, because I have to guess at his intent, I have to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I hate this "offended victim" mentality, so I have be pretty sure about the intent.

What's the difference between Barack Obama and Sarah Palin?
One is eye candy while the other kills her own food.

I highly doubt Sarah Palin feels "victimized" by Obama's words

But class tells, doesn't it?

Lipstick on a pig, indeed, Obama.

I totally agree. It has something to do with perception being reality. Plus, liberals are stooping to new lows, so this is not out of the realm of possibility.

America Owes Sarah Palin A Debt Of Gratitude

Making Fun of AGW http://giovanniworld.wordpress.com/

aaahhhh I dont know.  I

aaahhhh I dont know.  I thought it was probably innocent before i saw the clip. But now, the way he acted when he said it, I dont know.  No one is that dumb.

"No one is that dumb"

You sure about that?

"The One" dumb?

I wouldn't give "The Messiah" a pass for being dumb.  He knew exactly what he was saying.

I hope McCain/Palin take the high road and let Obama/Biden roll like pigs in their own mud!  Ha!

PIG...PIG...PIG...Old Fish

"'You can put lipstick on a pig,' he said to
an outbreak of laughter, shouts and raucous applause from his audience,
clearly drawing a connection to Palin's joke. 'It's still a pig. You
can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still
going to stink after eight years
.'" [LINK]

Barack has now resorted to calling Palin a Pig. Furthermore, he refers
to McCain as an "old fish" that stinks. I guess this is the high-brow
sophistication the Democrats want in their president. Hateful and
mean-spirited ad hominem
attacks we garner a giggle, but in the end, it demonstrates their
inner-fear and desperation. In the end, these tactics only alienate
swing-voters and may cost the Dems some of their female votes.

Some much for tolerance -- Obama shows his true colors; he is
misogynistic and an ageist. (I have now doubt because as a child he was
raised as a Muslim that he has antisemitic leanings.)

(Apologies for reposting again.)

If conservatives are RIGHT, then liberals must be WRONG.

Riiiiiggghhht, Lion.

And now Howard Wolfson & Alan Colmes are defending this remark...."had nothing to do with Sarah Palin".

How stupid do they think we are?

BTW....they just tried to pass Mike Barnicle off as a conservative.

As I scream at the TV, someone is telling me a shrink would say "if you despise them so much, you ought to turn off the tv".

Probably right on the money with that observation.  Watching these liberal talking heads is like looking at a train wreck.

If it was intended as a dig

If it was intended as a dig against Sara Palin, it's a REALLY low jab and this officially qualifies Obama as being a class-A prick, but I'm sure the Obama campaign will say that it was none as such. Obviously the audience thought the resulting parallel was funny, though.

Oh. My. God. WORDS HAVE MEANING. WORDS HAVE MEANING.

I'm a female lawyer.

Obama is a male lawyer.

We both know what the "appearance of impropriety" means.

Barack Obama knows what an intentional comment is, and he made one today when he intentionally inferred that Gov. Palin is a pig.

There are no excuses.

It was intentional.

If it was not intentional (and I don't buy this for one instant), then he has proven himself to be completely stupid (i.e., dumb as dirt) and therefore not qualified for public office.

But trust me--he's desperate.  And this was intentional.  And he's so full of himself that he thought it would be cute.

Verdict:  Wrong.

No woman is going to take this kind of insult.  And I'm not a stupid woman.

Words have meaning, Mr. Obama, and you just used them to mortally wound your own campaign.

Better get used to that house in Chicago--you'll be there quite some time.

(Hillary and Bill are probably laughing their heads off plotting her 2012 campaign.  Every day brings another gift to Hillary when Obama puts his big foot in his mouth.)

(FURTHER, the media is completely covering up for Obama's intentional statement.  I am not buying it.  I can't handle another sycophant in the media.)

Sycophants!!!!!

Note to McCain campaign:  Use this in an ad:  Point out that "words have meaning."  Obama said this......and then he publicly insults Gov. Palin.  I can't believe it.

I may have to disagree, respectively

especially when "(i.e., dumb as dirt)" was used to describe Barry - dirt has the good sense to just lay there and be used to grow things, so, therefore, I object, with vigor, that dirt is not dumb, nor be compared to the stupid remarks by Barry.

As for the laughter of Letch and PantSuit, they SHOULD start plotting now, as 2012 will be a tough fight, Sarah is a Cudda, and hildebeasts flounder in the water.

There is no sense in being stupid, if you can't prove it! - my dad V

Obama's lipstick: What color is male chauvinist lipstick?

Perhaps Obama's Muslim upbringing is coming to the surface, where women are treated as sub-human by some categories of Muslim men.

Disclaimer: the vast majority of Muslim men treat women with respect, apparently not some of the them like Obama.

Funny, McCain and Republicans do not need to hurl insults at Obama, he hurls them at himself.

openquote:

"“So Sambo beat the bitch!”

"This is how Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin described Barack Obama’s win over Hillary Clinton to political colleagues in a restaurant a few days after Obama locked up the Democratic Party presidential nomination.

"According to Lucille, the waitress serving her table at the time and who asked that her last name not be used, Gov. Palin was eating lunch with five or six people when the subject of the Democrat’s primary battle came up. The governor, seemingly not caring that people at nearby tables would likely hear her, uttered the slur and then laughed loudly as her meal mates joined in appreciatively."

http://poeticj.gnn.tv/blogs/29320/_So_Sambo_beat_the_bitch_Palin_on_Obama_and_Hillary

i'll say this: IF this (or even of a fraction of the content of the blog i pulled these quotes from) is true, then its only a matter of time before the truth will get out. so i'd hold off on the lawsuit for now, smarty pants.

a couple more quotes which factcheck.org seems not find fault with:

"...an oil-rich town with zero debt on the day she was inaugurated mayor was left saddled with $22 million of debt by the time she moved away to become governor"

or

"...she refers regularly to Alaska’s Aboriginal people as “Arctic Arabs” – how efficient, lumping two apparently undesirable groups into one ugly description – as well as the more colourful “mukluks” along with the totally unimaginative “f**king Eskimo’s,” according to a number of Alaskans and Wasillians interviewed for this article."

i also find this article about palin interesting:

openquote:

"Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has billed taxpayers for 312 nights spent in her own home during her first 19 months in office, charging a "per diem" allowance intended to cover meals and incidental expenses while traveling on state business."

"The governor's daughters and husband charged the state $43,490 to travel, and many of the trips were between their house in Wasilla and Juneau, the capital city 600 miles away..."

"In separate filings, the state was billed about $25,000 for Palin's daughters' expenses and $19,000 for her husband's.

"Flights topped the list for the most expensive items, and the daughter whose bill was the highest was Piper, 7, whose flights cost nearly $11,000, while Willow, 14, claimed about $6,000 and Bristol, 17, accounted for about $3,400."

that's a lot of flying in 19 months for a soccer mom and her family... on official business.

to her credit she did spend less than her predecessor.

i've found that people who are ruthlessly career driven and (and both articles suggest) difficult and a pitbull - they are dislikable and cannot hide it for long.

we'll see. oh and if you think you're a match for barack obama since you are both lawyers, help sarah out and sue him for slander on her behalf.

there's no doubt in your mind you'll win a slander case against him. you know... since "...he has proven himself to be completely stupid (i.e., dumb as dirt) and therefore not qualified for public office."

you sound like an expert on slander.

The 'town with no debt' thing has also been chopped to pieces.  And, the travel reimbursements?  Palin's expenses were somewhere in the range of 75-80% lower than the person she replaced.  What's next?  Todd didn't cut the grass, and now the lawn looks crappy?

prove it.

and yes, her numbers are lower as i indicated. but it still doesn't detract from the fact that her kids have been all over the place on the taxpayer's dime.

FINALLY, newsbusters begins removing my dissenting comments...

i was wondering when my rebuttals would begin to be edited. never a foul word uttered but i figured eventually the NEWSBUSTERS site moderators would begin pulling my dissenting comments.

attorneygirl, apparently it has been deemed that you as a lawyer are unable to manage your arguments without outside assistance. the dice are rigged here. but i expect that's how most here would prefer it. can't have people disagreeing, can we?

ABP,

What on earth are you talking about? I still see your lies clearly.

Now about those expenses you were talking about:

"Gubernatorial spokeswoman Sharon Leighow said Monday that Palin's
expenses are not unusual and that, under state policy, the first family
could have claimed per diem expenses for each child taken on official
business but has not done so."

And also:

"Speaking from Palin's Anchorage office, Leighow said Palin dealt with
the plane and also trimmed other expenses, including forgoing a chef in
the governor's mansion because she preferred to cook for her family.
The first family's travel is an expected part of the job, she said.

"'As a matter of protocol, the governor and the first family are
expected to attend community events across the state,' she said. "It's
absolutely reasonable that the first family participates in community
events.'"

One more thing. Alaska is a big state. Lots of land to traverse, in very bad weather at times. They have been moving to institute a "virtual government" in which they could form quorums from their homes to deal with these realities. She was in essece "on the job" for the nights she expensed the state. Go to my PC anyone?

As for you "Sambo" accusation, it is nothing more than one person's word. No corroboration whatsoever. I'll reserve my judgement until at least one other person says they heard it too. I think Chris of Rights said it better than I:

"This comes from the LA Progressive,
apparently a "news" site. They have one source, a waitress named
"Lucille". Unless other sources are found and can confirm it, then it
will likely stay UNKNOWN, as it will be nearly impossible to disprove.
I'm going go to with "innocent until proven guilty" here, especially
given that there's only one source. I suppose Governor Palin could be a
big jazz fan, but she's only two years older than me, and that's not a
reference I'd make. I had to think on it a minute when I heard it to
realize what the article was talking about. In the same vein, I could
call up RedState and tell them that I heard Obama threatening to bomb
the Pentagon if defeated. It would carry the same weight. Of course,
one difference is that RedState probably wouldn't believe me and
therefore wouldn't publish it."

When there is no script

Barry loses it, whatever it happens to be - whoever put up the money for him to go to college, should demand their money back. His biggest problem, while "thinking" on his feet, is that he continues to put his feet in his own mouth. Now, because of his own flumuxed way of thinking, he will have to try to explain what he meant. Instead of really telling people what he wants to do (tax, raise taxes, then spend the money in order to raise more taxes) he tries to tell jokes - like the other demolibs, we know that they're lying 'cause their lips move.

Public Speaking 101

I've said for quite a while now in public and private that for a lawyer, Obama is a terrible extemporaneous speaker. Lawyers have to think on their feet and be able to change tactics in a split second, and Messiah Obama has yet to prove to me that he can do so.

When I took Public Speaking 101 as a job requirement (our group ran morning briefings for company VPs and higher), one of the things we learned is that if you find yourself saying "uh/um/ah/oh/hm-m/" or other space fillers like "you know" and "I mean" a lot, it means your brain's processing is falling behind your speaking, and that can be dangerous. (This is where verbal gaffes like "57 states" come from.) My speech teacher said ideally our brains should already be parsing the next sentence while we say the previous one aloud. However, for extemporaneous speaking where one might not have prepared text, the way to defeat the speech fillers is to slow down your speaking to cover the gap you would normally insert a filler into, or just not speak when you feel one coming on. This forces your speech center to slow down and let the ideas portion of your brain "catch up". It's challenging to learn, but one would think a Harvard Law grad could tackle this in no time.

I just read it

I just read it here.....

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D933H0F80&show_article=1

and in it I see this line....

"McCain's campaign immediately organized a telephone conference call in response and called on Obama to apologize for calling Palin a pig."

I swear people!!!  Give me a freakin break!  It's a "saying,' a metaphor, a figure of speech!!!!  And it's not something he just made up, it's well known to be that type of phrase.  I swear, have they not heard of that ever having been said millions of times?  Of course they have, they're being stupid.  Has anyone here never heard that said?  I for one am TIRED of this BS!  From either side.  He DID NOT CALL HER A PIG!!!! GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESH!!!!!!!!  Get over it and quit with the nonsensical complaining about it!!!!!!!!!!

CRAP, are they, and some here, doing exactly what we claim liberals do??? And that which we call STUPID???  Just questioning if he called her a pig is insulting to MY intelligence.  The McCain team needs to go work on important stuff and quit this NONSENSE!  Leave this whiny crap to the libs!  And that's exactly what this is...whining!

Obama apologist ... question?

For someone that is supposed to be thoughtful and eloquent, how could he use such ambiguous language accidentally. If it was unintentional as you and other apologists would have us believe, how much damage could he do as POTUS if he did this with a foreign dignitary?

If conservatives are RIGHT, then liberals must be WRONG.

It wasn't an accident.  He

Obama apologist?  Well it's blatantly obvious you don't know me with a comment such as that.  There is no apology, and none needed.

And what he said wasn't an accident.  He said the phrase on purpose, sure.  So what.  Accident or purpose has nothing to do with my point.  My point is that he's not calling her a pig.  I've heard that phrase a thousand times in my lifetime, not once ever thinking to myself "oooohhh geee that person just called that person a pig."

This kind of crap gets me wound up.  I hate the language police and the political correctness that runs amuck in society now.  Going after some things, such as this, is just absolutely weak in my opinion and just continues the language policing that I, and I would think most, conservatives are tired of.   Perhaps my "thinking," regarding that point, is incorrect.  That's unfortunate.

Greg.......you know me, and I'm on your side......

BUT.....as I said above.....perception, perception, perception........Yes, it is an old saying, but coming in on the heals of Palins speech........perception from the rest of the country is what matters, and I think this really damaged him.

"If a man does his best, what else is there"?

General George S. Patton Jr.

I agree, it could damage

I agree, it could damage him.  Absolutely.  But I just need to say that that was not the topic - whether it damages him.  The topic was "did he actually mean to call her a pig?"  On that, my strong opinion is absolutely not.

Does it damage him?  On that, yes it could very well.

He knew what he was doing

I agree, it could damage him.  Absolutely.  But I just need to say that

Here is how I see the new add running:

Palin:  You know the difference between a Hockey Mom and a pit bull?  Lipstick.

Obama:  You can put lipstick on a pig, (croud laughter with Obama smirking), but it's still a pig.

So it wasn't just  Palin he insulted, but ALL "Hockey Moms".  And yeah, if you watch the video, it is VERY obvious that he knew what he was doing.  This was no mistake.  He even paused a minute to let the crowd catch up... and they did.  As they were laughing, and before he finished the joke, you could see him smiling, almost laughing himself.  He knew what he was doing.

Greg ... I stand corrected

According to the Urban Dictionary, Liptick on a Pig refers to an ugly broad.

Of the major players, who is most likely to be considered a "broad"? (Hillary doesn't count anymore) Furthermore, he specifically is speaking about Palin and her 5 children.

You choose, he either called her a PIG or he called he an UGLY BROAD.

I stand by my earlier post, Obama is certainly misogynistic and an ageist.

If conservatives are RIGHT, then liberals must be WRONG.

Anyone can post to urban

Anyone can post to urban dictionary.  But nonetheless, its not a big deal.  We simply disagree on it.  There are bigger topics out there to discuss.

Greg

You are right. There are more important issues, but the ignorant left are blinded and misled by the MSM. When an extremists opens the door, we need to seize the opportunity.

This is a valid issue though. My wife was GREATLY offended at the remark, intentional or not. It shows a pattern of thoughtlessness contrary to the MSM portrayal of Obama being thoughful.

Finally, I want to apologize for referring to you as an Obama apologist...I missed your point and assumed you were justifying his statement as a conservative over-reaction.

If conservatives are RIGHT, then liberals must be WRONG.

True, there are more

True, there are more important issues, but elections are often won and lost on issues such as this...one question, one wrong remark: Dukakis hesitating on the  rape of his wife question, whoever it was  that cried before it was noble for men to cry, Nixon's 5 o'clock shadow and perspiration.

What we are witnessing now

What we are witnessing now is the political equal of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F54rqDh2mWA

What could possibly be a bigger topic?

I can already hear the media saying: OH, THE HUMANITY!

Not Irrelevant - Not Clever

And what he said wasn't an accident.  He said the phrase on purpose, sure.  So what.  Accident or purpose has nothing to do with my point.  My point is that he's not calling her a pig.  I've heard that phrase a thousand times in my lifetime, not once ever thinking to myself "oooohhh geee that person just called that person a pig."

Irrelevant whether the saying has been made a million times. Sarah Palin made the saying hers (actually "Pitbull") in regards to the end run to Election Day. A MATURE campaign can take her comment, which was saying how as a Hockey Mom she won't cower or be intimidated, and try to turn it on McCain/Palin. Obama unquestionably was trying to do this but in an ugly, cheap fashion.

Then he tacked on the stinky fish analogy which would be fair to say that it meant to imply that McCain is an old coot. A little harder to slice but the fact is as the crowd reacted to "Pig with lipstick" comment with glee and thus obvious understanding, Obama decided to go with the "stinky fish" comment.

I don't have the exact quote but this was a planned strategy because earlier in the day some Obama spokesman/syncophant used the lipstick analogy in terms of some McCain/Palin position, maybe while Obama was in "New Pennsylvania".

The way I see it this is an ad that has been signed, sealed, delivered. Play Palin joke from acceptance speech - play pig and fish comment - fade to: "Change we can believe in?" Done.

Palin will cleverly use this in the VP debate when reform comes up and it will bring down the house. Not to mention Bidens claim today that not supporting stem cell research is being cruel to children with birth defects. All Palin has to say is if the subject comes up in the debate, "Does Senator Biden know that 94% of Down Syndrome CHILDREN (not fetus) are aborted when the defect is found in pre-natal testing and, since he recently stated he believes life begins at conception, does he support these abortions as good policy?" Tack on the fact that adult stem cells are where the actual progress is.

Anyhow. Bottomline: no we don't need to scream to high heaven but can use it as a missle in the debates and beyond.

Might want to consult a dictionary.

An apologist is a person who makes a defense in speech or writing of a belief, idea, etc. It has nothing to do with an apology.

Sarah Palin made glaring reference to lipstick in her speech at the Republican convention.

It might occur to someone other than a rank amateur to stay away from the word lipstick for a little while.

But then Obama is an amateur as he has proved time and again.

I just read it.

He did call her a pig.  Wait, I take that back.  Everyone in his audience THOUGHT he called he called her a pig.  Based on their response, they knew exactly who he was referring to.

At first I thought it was

At first I thought it was innocent, but now I don't know.  That hand up to his forehead when he said that was the fishy part.  I'd like to know what a body language expert says about that.

"Look, she's new, she hasn't been on the scene, she's got five kids.

What has that got to do with anything????

Is that code for "she's inexperienced and how is she going to do the job and take care of her kids" ?

That hand to his forehead

That hand to his forehead meant nothing.

Not necessarily.  Body

Not necessarily.  Body language experts notice all kinds of clues in behavior when people are lying, subtle things that give them away subconsciously. It's just something that I noticed; it might indicate some discomfort about what he was saying.  Maybe even because he was aware that it could be taken wrong, and was a little hesitant about it.

But I'm not an expert.

And neither are you.

Point taken, I just

Point taken, I just disagree.  I should rephrase as yes, I am definitely no body language expert, unless someone gives me the finger, I know that one!  LOL

So I should have said "that hand to the forehead meant nothing, in my opinion."

Everything we say here on topics such as this is our opinion so I didn't think I needed it in my post. :-)

Double Entendre...ever heard of it??

Obama knows what it is.  So does his audience behind him...and SO DO I.   He stops as if thinking before he goes on with it....oh he knows what he did.  and it was a very very very bad  move.   I'm NOT going to forget it.  I've already started forwarding the video to friends.    THIS is a deal killer and shows exactly what our Mr. Obama is.

I noticed that too. I was

I noticed that too. I was focused on the hand going up to his forehead, but he did hesitate also.  Maybe, as I commented above, he had a split second realization that it might be taken wrong.

But he went ahead with it anyway.

If I'm right about that, it's pretty telling.

Of course this was

Of course this was intentional!

If it wasn't, he would of immediately come out with an apology.

Obama, is once again getting excuses made for him on the msm that I have seen so far...

I am sick of it!

If this was McCain saying anything like this, OH PLEASE we all know what would be going on...

...adn I haven't even looked at McCain's response yet...

Btw...I was outside BBQ'n and I could hear my husband screaming you filthy pig....I later found out about all of this...he was and is still furious...

This BS is maddening, it is also 10,000 votes at a time added to our side of the aisle folks...

No, keep Todd quiet on this matter.  I understand your sentiment, but now's not the time for chivalry on his part.  If asked about the 'pig' issue, I hope she laughs and blows it off.  That would be the most effective response.  Having Sarah laugh at him in a public setting would further emasculate the poor SOB.  Obama is still freaked out over the community organizer thing, and that was a week ago.  I really think that part of McCain's campaign strategy now is to force B.O. into a complete public meltdown.  He looks like he's on his way...

I will have to object to the word

ass, being used to describe Barry - as you are well aware, the ass is the most comfortable part of the body on which to sit, meaning if Barry is one, he'd be a comfortable seat, If, on the other hand, you meant the animal, then I have the problem that the small pack animal is being maligned, as Barry has never carried enough weight to become such a comparison. Me thinks we need to make a different comparison - stupid seems redundent, other names aren't fair to those who really are, so I'm suggesting he just be called Barry.

the fatal mistake

Mark the date, take note of the time. This punk just made the fatal mistake of his campaign. Whether intentional or not (of course it was intentional) the next few days will show that women don't appreciate using the word "pig" to describe ANYONE, let alone a working mother of 5. Let him spend the next week explaining himself. Every time it's brought up, it'll make women's toes curl in revulsion. "Adios" Barry! There..I've learned some Spanish.

"Deterrence is achieved NOT from the severity of the punishment...but from it's CERTAINTY!"

"Uniter”?

This caper spectacularly fails to square with Obama’s claims to be a “uniter.”

Impunitas semper ad deteriora invitat.

A few points

1) I don't think he was referring to Palin. Obama is not good without a teleprompter, but he's not this bad or this dumb. Frankly, what Biden said this afternoon was more offensive.

2) The crowd clearly thought he was referring to Palin. And their reaction to the comment won't help sway public opinion in Obama's favor.

3) Obama will take a hit on this, even if he does apologize immediately. His increasing focus on Palin the last few days coupled with the media's obscene behavior toward her and her family will leave a decent percentage of the electorate thinking this "lipstick" remark was directed at her.

You know, I just flipped

I've really got to laugh because I don't really think he meant to do the association but, I can see this one coming:  I never meant it that way and people are just looking for an excuse to attack me.

Anyway, in the long run, it comes down to judgement and Obama has failed once again.  He can insult Republicans with comments that aren't well thought out, but what about the Russians?

Democrats: Stuck on Stupid since 2000.

“macaca,”?

It would be appropriate to recall what happened to George Allen when he mentioned “macaca,” which surely was not as connected to the current discourse as “lipstick” has become in the past few days.

Impunitas semper ad deteriora invitat.

Obama's Macaca Moment

Excellent point Needle.  Allen clearly did not mean it as a slur, but the media, especially the Post, hounded him until he apologized and his reelection was doomed.

Something tells the media will not treat Obama the same way.  They are already quickly jumping to his defense (see, e.g., CNN's EC 360 tonight).

As to the issue, I find it VERY hard to believe that this is the first time anyone in Obama's staff has referenced pigs & lipstick in the last week.

Whatever the truth is, it is a serious misstatement by Obama and if the media was fair, they would hold his feet to the fire.

It shows the desperation

of the Obama campaign. I give no credence to the idea that it was a slip of the tongue by either Obama or Biden. These speeches are too well choreographed to be an error.

Like the other smears, this one is going to cost the democrats.

Nuance

We must appear to be such hicks to the democrats - we can't comprehend sophisticated urbane humor when it's delivered by this terribly intelligent fellow. So now he will become angry at us for being too stupid to understand his "nuanced" humor.  We are expected to forgive his little gaffes.  Like hell!

What?

Don't stoop to the liberal level. That is implication. The libs are doing the same thing with Palin and putting the jet on Ebay. Don't give into this bunk.

We can't say for sure what he meant. He certainly bumbled through it. However, because of what he said before that phrase, he seemed to be saying that if you put lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig. No change. That was his point. I do see where some could see the association, but it's pushing it.

If it looks like a Duck,

If it looks like a Duck, walks like a Duck, and quacks like a Duck, then it must be a Duck.

Sorta.........??

Obama made the statement implying that McCain was just putting "lipstick" on the same old Bush policies. But, its no coincidence that he used the word lipstick, just as Palin used the word lipstick in her speech. He know it would get a rise and applause from the crowd, because he knew that they would see it as him talking about Palin. But, its another weak attempt by Obama to play off of Americans pecieved naiveness or flat out stupidity. He cant blatantly call Palin a pig, he;ll get skewered for it. But he subliminily implied that Palin is the pig, even though the statement was not directly reflecting that thought.

So yes he was referring to Palin, without actually referring to her in those words.

Once a muslim, always a muslim

While I am not serious, using Obama's "pig" tactics on Palin is the same as saying about Obama, "once a Muslim, always a Muslim." And again, while I am not serioous, since Obama loved a pastor that asked God to damn America, I could say of Obama, "once a traitor, always a traitor."

If Palin is a pig ...

If Palin's a "pig", then Obama is the mud in the pig pen.

If it's Obama, it's not mud

If it's Obama, it's not mud in the pen...

Major Gaffe

Whether it was intentional or not, this is a major gaffe. I detect a 4 point bounce for McCain on this one. Keep on imploding Odumba. It looks good on you. Btw , speaking of gaffes, did you see Biden asking a man in a wheelchair to stand.

General George S. Patton Jr.

Major Gaffe

I'm not sure this was worth a 4 point bounce, but it certainly won't help Obama.  The interesting gaffe which doesn't seem to be getting much play is the somewhat derisive way that he referred to Palin as a 'moose shooter' at one of his very recent events.  This guy cannot win without help from the 'god and guns' crowd.  I think he totally slammed the folks who are hunters, who are quite active in places like Colorado, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.  You know, states he desperately needs to win the presidency.  There doesn't seem to be any logic in what Obama is doing right now.

I dont' think he used the

I dont' think he used the phrase intentionally, it's a common enough phrase and I hear it all of the time in many contexts.

The problem is, he used at at a very bad time following the hatefest put forth by the MSM and the nutroots, people are going to look at this as him saying exactly that Palin is a pig with lipstick on.

Also I hope you lady members here dont' get offended but to follow-up one analogy containing "pig" and "lipstick" with an analogy that contained "fish" and "stink" didn't help his case either. My wife was the one who brought this up to me, so please dont' be mad.

Not to mention heres what a lot of Hillary supporting Democrats and Independents heard instead:

"you can put an orange pant-suit on a pig"

Bidens probably wishing there was a way he and Barack could "Eagleton" each other and let someone else take over the helm of The Titanic.

I'm going to start calling B. Hussein O'Dumbo.  How stupid can this man possibly be?  If he was using the "old adage"....he should have known it was stupid, given the great joke Sarah Palin had in her speech.  And if he meant it, he's suicidally stupid.  Either way....dumb, dumb, dumb.

Blonde it was so

Blonde it was so funny.

My wife was curled up on the bed back turned from the t.v., deeply into a book, I was sitting at the foot of the bed watching Fox, and when they played this snippet from B.O.s campaign speech, she made no inference to the "lipstick on a pig" part, but when he said "You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still gonna stink.", she jumped up, threw her book down and she exclaimed:

"What !!.....What!!.....Oh My Gawd !!......Oh No He didn't Just Say, What I Thought He Said !!

After rolling around on the floor for about a minute crying my eyes out with laughter, I managed to explain what he was actually talking about.

He knew what he was saying. No doubt. This dude's got a wicked mean streak. It's always just below the surface with this guy. Only the pressure's getting to him and we got a little glimpse of it. Didn't he raise his hand to his head and scratch his forehead with his middle finger awhile back while talking about Hillary?

"Deterrence is achieved NOT by the severity of the punishment...but by it's CERTAINTY!"

Suicide by Media Sound Bite/Visual

I believe you are correct about the bird shot.

He really ought to know better.  But I believe he's a victim of his own fawning press (BAWAHAHAHAHAH).  Believing he can get away with anything, and the media will cover for him.

While I believe the networks won't cover this...it's already all over Fox & the blogosphere, so the nets will be drug into the controversy kicking and screaming (and hopefully spinning for all their worth after their dispicable skewering of Sarah Palin last week).

What would Forrest say?  Stupid is as stupid does.

Obama, you'll excuse the

Obama, you'll excuse the expression, is thoughtless and dickless.  This is the typical guy too smart, and too conceited, for his own good.  His attempt to slam McCain & Palin only makes him look weak.  He rambles.  Obviously, minus his teleprompter, he's at sea, without direction.  As others more astute than me have pointed out, American voters are shrewd, like animals. They will sense this guy's weakness. It's visceral and soon will be pervasive, the sweet rotting smell of putrescence. This is the college professor who outside his class room can't change a tire and doesn't have a clue how to use a lug wrench without scraping his knuckles. And they will not elect a weakling to the Presidency.  No way.

Obama the moron

You know, when Dan Quayle made verbal gaffes, the left gleefully labelled him an idiot.  When George W. Bush mangled the language, that plus a million other mostly-imagined sins made him a Neanderthal.  Unless this was intentional, we now have plenty of evidence to label Barack Obama a moron.  And we ought to rub his nose in it.

He is a cold heartless self-centered man who has proven he really doesn't deseve to be president

Intentional or not, IMO it

Intentional or not, IMO it didn't make a lick of sense. If Palin's a pig, I wanna be one, too! And is it my imagination or did he start sounding like Bill Cosby in one of his comedy routines?

I don't want to hear another word about what a terrible speaker Bush is. Obama is worse! His voice, his delivery, the way he fumbles his words. It's painful to watch.

As I said earlier, it was his Dukakis/Hillary/F'ing/Gore moment.

interesting news blonde

I have some family and friends in UK and even they still remember the bull dog/lipstick joke. So they can't say the Palin quote was too obscure to apply here.

And really how convenient it comes on the heels of Obama's drop in the polls and Dem strategists on TV saying they have a hard time attacking Palin.

Like I say I willing to dismiss a lot of Obama's gaffes but this was not a gaffe. Like the Kerry incident, I think there was a joke in here that Obama botched and then decided to get the punchline out there anyway. If you watch the tape closely, he seems to hesitate more than normal right before he says it, as if he's unsure the way it'll sound.

Either way it smacks of Obama being bitter.

If enough people broadcast this, it could very well be a watershed moment.

can

Darn tootin'.

I wonder what Obama clings to in his bitterness?

It's certainly not guns.

I think it's probably the communist manifesto, and maybe the Koran (oops).

I didn't mean that in reference to his gaffe this week about "my muslim religion".  It was just a coincidence, I swear!!!!!!!!!

The Wilson sisters do not own the rights to 'Barracuda'.  The folks who own the rights to the song gave an interview after the Wilson sisters had a public bird about the song being used at McCain rallies.  First, the folks who own the rights are Obama supporters.  Second, they think it's cool that the song is being played, so they're not raising any objections.  Also, on 9/5 (I think), 'Barricuda' reached #36 on the iTunes daily download chart.  It's now the #1 most downloaded Heart song on iTunes.  Not bad for a song that was released in January of 1977.

Barry O'LameO never fails

Barry O'LameO never fails to dissappoint me with his unscripted Barakisms.  Now he screws up with scripted comments.

Yesterday I read an article that said His Hopelessness:  The Obama will lose big because he is a flake.  The more I think about it, BLT Barry (black liberation theology, not bacon/lettuce/tomato) is a flake.  He's not dumb, not stupid, just looks at the world 90 degrees off center all the time.  Of course the teleprompter is what makes him appear to be within normal limits (for a Leftist that is).

Looking at this video of the false messiah, did anyone else think they were listening to Cartman from South Park?  The way Whacko Barako kept saying the word "policy" sounded just like Cartman saying the word "authority", pronouncing the "y" as "ah" instead of "ee".  (Cartman Video)

Obama the Bumbler

Anybody notice how clumsy he was in saying this? It was really uncomfortable.  It reminded me of when a little kid memorizes a joke but forgets the punchline. It's like he memorized a script but didn't quite have it down as well as he thought.

Obviously he hired whoever Hillary Clinton employed to lighten her up. He has no sense of humor.

Maybe his teleprompter went

Maybe his teleprompter went on the fritz.

"Fighters are fun but bombers make policy"

I hate to sink to the level

I hate to sink to the level of liberals and try to find issue with every stupid thing someone says, even though Obama is a treasure trove of stupidity. On one hand, I think he was trying to say the Bush policies were the pig and McCain's policies were the lipstick, but he proved he's as lousy a stand-up comedian as he is an extemporaneous political speaker.

On the other hand, Obama and his staff cannot possibly be this stupid, to so poorly choose a metaphor involving lipstick on an animal in such close proiximity to Palin using a more flattering lipstick-on-an-animal metaphor a week ago. Or can they?

As many others have said here, perception is the key. Whatever Slappy Obama meant, if enough people think he was calling Palin a pig and it turns enough of them off, it could sway a lot of people to choose the McCain-Palin ticket. And Biden will REALLY have to watch himself to not step in it.

That wasn't directed at Palin...

...but Hussein's a douche bag anyway.  He is about as much of a breath of fresh air as the NYC subway in August.

His brand of politics is Chicago-Saul Alinsky style politics.  Just witness what they have tried to do to Palin.  They can't debate the issues so they go up to Alaska to try to find some dirt while inventing crap that they know will be debunked...all to keep from talking about the issues.  They should have a debate where the presidential candidates debate the opposing VP candidates.  I bet Baby-mama will wilt like a cheap shirt in the Texas sun.

Far Be It From Me...

Far be it from me to give Obama a break, but the line about putting lipstick on a pig is an old one, and he is just so awkward using a jokey line that he doesn't do it very well.  Must be his inner white man coming out...

I don't think it was a slam at Palin - I just think this guy can't tell a joke.

Ti...ming...Timing!

This is an old joke.  One which my Grandpa Sam used to tell.  But when a candidate who is supposedly as smart as everyone claims he is uses any lipstick reference no less than a week after his opposition used it to much better success, it's going to be refered back to the opposition whether he meant it or not.

Gov. Palin's lipstick joke was reported around the planet.  Sen. Obama's will be percieved by a great many potential voters as nothing less than a personal swipe at the Governor regardless.

It's the fact that a simple (and rather bad) 11-word joke stumbled, bumbled and tripped itself up out of his mouth like this:

Remember his slip up a few days ago when he admitted his 'Muslem faith'. He clings to his upbringing to hate and kill anyone who isn't Islamic. Sometimes in his haste or confusion the truth slips out.

Old, Retired and glad of it.

A few thoughts

Obama isn't stupid enough to make such a blatently offensive statement on purpose.

I agree with Mike Huckabee, I think he merely spoke an idiom that he has used before and McCain has used recently himself (speaking about Hillarycare, of all things).

HOWEVER, it is clear the crowd interpreted it much more visciously. Therefore, Obama needs to apologize for any "misinterpretation."

I think, unfortunatly, this story is covering up the major Biden gaffe, when he insulted Sarah Palin and her special needs child:

“I hear all this talk about how the Republicans are going to work in
dealing with parents who have both the joy, because there's joy to it
as well, the joy and the difficulty of raising a child who has a
developmental disability, who were born with a birth defect. Well guess
what folks? If you care about it, why don't you support stem cell
research?”

THAT needs to be attacked.

A few thoughts

“I hear all this talk about how the Republicans are going to work in dealing with parents who have both the joy, because there's joy to it as well, the joy and the difficulty of raising a child who has a developmental disability, who were born with a birth defect. Well guess what folks? If you care about it, why don't you support stem cell research?”

Stem cell research - adult and fetal - has been legal for decades.  Where the two parties disagree is on the issue of federal funding for fetal stem cell research.  Biden was referring to fetal stem cell research as if it was illegal, but it's legal.  He also implied that Trig is imperfect, after Palin made the very public statement that he's 'perfect'. Chalk it up as another 'Biden moment'.  When he said it, he was trying to score points with the choir.  That issue is easy to argue in a debate, I believe...

Irony

I have read through the comments about this latest foot in mouth episode and one thing that struck me was, isn't obama's campaign theme one that is based on change?  And if I heard correctly, didn't he say in that speech that  "You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still gonna stink."?  Seems to me that he just said his campaign stinks!

Just me?  Or do you think his statement could make good fodder for an upcoming debate.  Especially since his campaign mission is change we can believe in.  So, given that his campaign is based on change, this is one time I could agree with him that he can wrap it in all the paper he wants... it still stinks.

From the mainstream media to their totally unqualified presidential candidate who truly makes President Bush look like an eloquent speaker. "UH UH UH UH UH", what a moron. Keep up the comments all you liberal fools because that's all you have left.

Shrewd Obama comment

This is very shrewd by Obama. It is an old saying, however in this context after the convention it leaves it open for question. He can definitely play innocent. However, in light of his comments after her being named VP, and him only referring to her being the mayor of "Wasilly", and him being a part of the Daley machine in Chicago, one can easily conclude that this is a very deliberate shot at Palin.

He didn't mean to call her a pig...directly.

The Bible says, "Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks..."

I don't think Obama consciously intended to call Palin a "pig", nor did he intend to refer to McCain as "an old fish"; however, these "slips" are just too darned Freudian to go without notice or concern.

Can you imagine the uproar in the MSM if John McCain referred to Obama as "the pot calling the kettle black", or that Obama is "a slave to his ambition"?  The MSM would lose their minds over that even though those are both common expressions and neither considered to be racist on their own.

The point is, if Obama is ready for prime-time on the international stage, he should know better.  It's not a question of rudeness, it's a question of judgement.  Wars have been started for less.

Listening to this (yet another) shambolic speaking performance, I wonder when some one in the Main Stream Morons is going to point out the most obvious point about this "orator."

He is one of the most BORING uninspiring public speakers around. And I'm talking about when he has a teleprompter. Off-Teleprompter and it's amateur night out.

His cadence, his delivery, his sibilance, he inability to crack a joke, his timing, his crappy regional accents. They are AWFUL.

Of course, all those in the know, and the tank, know this. But they created the myth about his "oratory," and they just cannot drop it now. The Obamabots are in an orgasmic trance, of course, so they don't even hear what he says

Obama's mommy was mean to him..

It doesn't matter if Obama ment to call Palin a pig or not. I will NEVER vote for Obama.

He is just a little boy who has been trying to find out who he is, why his daddy left him, why he was cursed with a white mommy. While going to a Muslim school in Indonesia, he was taught to degrade women like all Muslims do. It will make him a better man he was told. But he still was lost. But then he found the Trinity United Church of Christ and after hanging out with Rev. Wright for 20 years, his mind was made up. He was the Chosen One!! He is above everybody and if anyone doesn't agree with him is a lying racist. Especially women who were bad and evil because he felt inferior to them.

What happened Obama? Was mommy mean to you? Oh, I know!! She was white!! That's a bad thing in Obama's eyes. Just read his books and you will see. This is why he hates women!

He's just an angry little boy who is mad because his mommy was not like the rest of the black children.

Grow up or get some counseling. President of the United States? I don't think so!!
