Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama fumbled through what appears to have been a botched joke while campaigning in Lebanon, Virginia, Tuesday:
Other than the awful delivery, what do you think about his statement? Some are accusing Obama of implying that Sarah Palin is a pig. Do you agree, or is that a stretch?
The McCain campaign has already struck back.

If you listen to Obama when he is not in front of a teleprompter he has a lot of difficulty forming a clear, coherent sentence. Rush Limbaugh has mentioned this a number of times on his show, including this one Rush titled Off Prompter, Obama Can't Speak.
I've listened to some of the interviews President George W. Bush has given to the news media, and he is without question a better speaker than Obama without the prepared speech and prompter.

FoxNews contributor and Democrat Kirsten Powers has written article titled How Obama Blew It. Rush Limbaugh read some excerpts from it on his show Tuesday.

Well a whole lot us do think it was an intentional slam.
If Obama didn't mean it as one, instead of being defiant, he should of been politically expedient and come out with a half-a$$ed excuse as an apology...but he is neither smart let alone politically expedient...the msm jut gives him a pass all the time...his so-called slip-ups are really stacking up, from his 57 states, my muslim religion, flipping the bird at Hill, now this...nah...he never means anything intentional...
...and he shouldn't be questioned or criticized, I think so, he is running for President after-all..
Btw...if this was reversed, and this was said in the same context at a campaign spot speaking of Michelle...you can be sure he would demand an apology, along with the msm leading he way.

Barack has now resorted to calling Palin a Pig. Furthermore, he refers
to McCain as an "old fish" that stinks. I guess this is the high-brow
sophistication the Democrats want in their president. Hateful and
mean-spirited ad hominem
attacks we garner a giggle, but in the end, it demonstrates their
inner-fear and desperation. In the end, these tactics only alienate
swing-voters and may cost the Dems some of their female votes.

September 9, 2008 - 20:14 ET by FoolicanIf it was intended as a dig against Sara Palin, it's a REALLY low jab and this officially qualifies Obama as being a class-A prick, but I'm sure the Obama campaign will say that it was none as such. Obviously the audience thought the resulting parallel was funny, though.
Oh. My. God. WORDS HAVE MEANING. WORDS HAVE MEANING.
September 9, 2008 - 20:19 ET by attorneygirlI'm a female lawyer.
Obama is a male lawyer.
We both know what the "appearance of impropriety" means.
Barack Obama knows what an intentional comment is, and he made one today when he intentionally inferred that Gov. Palin is a pig.
There are no excuses.
It was intentional.
If it was not intentional (and I don't buy this for one instant), then he has proven himself to be completely stupid (i.e., dumb as dirt) and therefore not qualified for public office.
But trust me--he's desperate. And this was intentional. And he's so full of himself that he thought it would be cute.
Verdict: Wrong.
No woman is going to take this kind of insult. And I'm not a stupid woman.
Words have meaning, Mr. Obama, and you just used them to mortally wound your own campaign.
Better get used to that house in Chicago--you'll be there quite some time.
(Hillary and Bill are probably laughing their heads off plotting her 2012 campaign. Every day brings another gift to Hillary when Obama puts his big foot in his mouth.)
(FURTHER, the media is completely covering up for Obama's intentional statement. I am not buying it. I can't handle another sycophant in the media.)
Sycophants!!!!!
Note to McCain campaign: Use this in an ad: Point out that "words have meaning." Obama said this......and then he publicly insults Gov. Palin. I can't believe it.

openquote:
"“So Sambo beat the bitch!”
"This is how Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin described Barack Obama’s win over Hillary Clinton to political colleagues in a restaurant a few days after Obama locked up the Democratic Party presidential nomination.
"According to Lucille, the waitress serving her table at the time and who asked that her last name not be used, Gov. Palin was eating lunch with five or six people when the subject of the Democrat’s primary battle came up. The governor, seemingly not caring that people at nearby tables would likely hear her, uttered the slur and then laughed loudly as her meal mates joined in appreciatively."

i'll say this: IF this (or even of a fraction of the content of the blog i pulled these quotes from) is true, then its only a matter of time before the truth will get out. so i'd hold off on the lawsuit for now, smarty pants.
a couple more quotes which factcheck.org seems not find fault with:
"...an oil-rich town with zero debt on the day she was inaugurated mayor was left saddled with $22 million of debt by the time she moved away to become governor"
or
"...she refers regularly to Alaska’s Aboriginal people as “Arctic Arabs” – how efficient, lumping two apparently undesirable groups into one ugly description – as well as the more colourful “mukluks” along with the totally unimaginative “f**king Eskimo’s,” according to a number of Alaskans and Wasillians interviewed for this article."
i also find this article about palin interesting:
openquote:
"Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has billed taxpayers for 312 nights spent in her own home during her first 19 months in office, charging a "per diem" allowance intended to cover meals and incidental expenses while traveling on state business."
"The governor's daughters and husband charged the state $43,490 to travel, and many of the trips were between their house in Wasilla and Juneau, the capital city 600 miles away..."
"In separate filings, the state was billed about $25,000 for Palin's daughters' expenses and $19,000 for her husband's.
"Flights topped the list for the most expensive items, and the daughter whose bill was the highest was Piper, 7, whose flights cost nearly $11,000, while Willow, 14, claimed about $6,000 and Bristol, 17, accounted for about $3,400."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/08/AR2008090803088_pf.html
that's a lot of flying in 19 months for a soccer mom and her family... on official business.
to her credit she did spend less than her predecessor.
i've found that people who are ruthlessly career driven and (and both articles suggest) difficult and a pitbull - they are dislikable and cannot hide it for long.
we'll see. oh and if you think you're a match for barack obama since you are both lawyers, help sarah out and sue him for slander on her behalf.
there's no doubt in your mind you'll win a slander case against him. you know... since "...he has proven himself to be completely stupid (i.e., dumb as dirt) and therefore not qualified for public office."

ABP,
September 11, 2008 - 22:59 ET by RESTLESS 1What on earth are you talking about? I still see your lies clearly.
Now about those expenses you were talking about:
"Gubernatorial spokeswoman Sharon Leighow said Monday that Palin's
expenses are not unusual and that, under state policy, the first family
could have claimed per diem expenses for each child taken on official
business but has not done so."
And also:
"Speaking from Palin's Anchorage office, Leighow said Palin dealt with
the plane and also trimmed other expenses, including forgoing a chef in
the governor's mansion because she preferred to cook for her family.
The first family's travel is an expected part of the job, she said.
"'As a matter of protocol, the governor and the first family are
expected to attend community events across the state,' she said. "It's
absolutely reasonable that the first family participates in community
events.'"
One more thing. Alaska is a big state. Lots of land to traverse, in very bad weather at times. They have been moving to institute a "virtual government" in which they could form quorums from their homes to deal with these realities. She was in essece "on the job" for the nights she expensed the state. Go to my PC anyone?
As for you "Sambo" accusation, it is nothing more than one person's word. No corroboration whatsoever. I'll reserve my judgement until at least one other person says they heard it too. I think Chris of Rights said it better than I:
"This comes from the LA Progressive,
apparently a "news" site. They have one source, a waitress named
"Lucille". Unless other sources are found and can confirm it, then it
will likely stay UNKNOWN, as it will be nearly impossible to disprove.
I'm going go to with "innocent until proven guilty" here, especially
given that there's only one source. I suppose Governor Palin could be a
big jazz fan, but she's only two years older than me, and that's not a
reference I'd make. I had to think on it a minute when I heard it to
realize what the article was talking about. In the same vein, I could
call up RedState and tell them that I heard Obama threatening to bomb
the Pentagon if defeated. It would carry the same weight. Of course,
one difference is that RedState probably wouldn't believe me and
therefore wouldn't publish it."

Public Speaking 101
September 9, 2008 - 23:12 ET by KimberlyI've said for quite a while now in public and private that for a lawyer, Obama is a terrible extemporaneous speaker. Lawyers have to think on their feet and be able to change tactics in a split second, and Messiah Obama has yet to prove to me that he can do so.
When I took Public Speaking 101 as a job requirement (our group ran morning briefings for company VPs and higher), one of the things we learned is that if you find yourself saying "uh/um/ah/oh/hm-m/" or other space fillers like "you know" and "I mean" a lot, it means your brain's processing is falling behind your speaking, and that can be dangerous. (This is where verbal gaffes like "57 states" come from.) My speech teacher said ideally our brains should already be parsing the next sentence while we say the previous one aloud. However, for extemporaneous speaking where one might not have prepared text, the way to defeat the speech fillers is to slow down your speaking to cover the gap you would normally insert a filler into, or just not speak when you feel one coming on. This forces your speech center to slow down and let the ideas portion of your brain "catch up". It's challenging to learn, but one would think a Harvard Law grad could tackle this in no time.

September 9, 2008 - 20:39 ET by GregEObama apologist? Well it's blatantly obvious you don't know me with a comment such as that. There is no apology, and none needed.
And what he said wasn't an accident. He said the phrase on purpose, sure. So what. Accident or purpose has nothing to do with my point. My point is that he's not calling her a pig. I've heard that phrase a thousand times in my lifetime, not once ever thinking to myself "oooohhh geee that person just called that person a pig."
This kind of crap gets me wound up. I hate the language police and the political correctness that runs amuck in society now. Going after some things, such as this, is just absolutely weak in my opinion and just continues the language policing that I, and I would think most, conservatives are tired of. He even paused a minute to let the crowd catch up... and they did. As they were laughing, and before he finished the joke, you could see him smiling, almost laughing himself. He knew what he was doing.

Of the major players, who is most likely to be considered a "broad"? (Hillary doesn't count anymore) Furthermore, he specifically is speaking about Palin and her 5 children.

What could possibly be a bigger topic?
I can already hear the media saying: OH, THE HUMANITY!
Not Irrelevant - Not Clever
September 9, 2008 - 21:48 ET by Intellectual HonestyAnd what he said wasn't an accident. He said the phrase on purpose, sure. So what. Accident or purpose has nothing to do with my point. My point is that he's not calling her a pig. I've heard that phrase a thousand times in my lifetime, not once ever thinking to myself "oooohhh geee that person just called that person a pig."
Irrelevant whether the saying has been made a million times. Sarah Palin made the saying hers (actually "Pitbull") in regards to the end run to Election Day. A MATURE campaign can take her comment, which was saying how as a Hockey Mom she won't cower or be intimidated, and try to turn it on McCain/Palin. Obama unquestionably was trying to do this but in an ugly, cheap fashion.
Then he tacked on the stinky fish analogy which would be fair to say that it meant to imply that McCain is an old coot. A little harder to slice but the fact is as the crowd reacted to "Pig with lipstick" comment with glee and thus obvious understanding, Obama decided to go with the "stinky fish" comment.
I don't have the exact quote but this was a planned strategy because earlier in the day some Obama spokesman/syncophant used the lipstick analogy in terms of some McCain/Palin position, maybe while Obama was in "New Pennsylvania".
The way I see it this is an ad that has been signed, sealed, delivered. Play Palin joke from acceptance speech - play pig and fish comment - fade to: "Change we can believe in?" Done.
Palin will cleverly use this in the VP debate when reform comes up and it will bring down the house. Not to mention Bidens claim today that not supporting stem cell research is being cruel to children with birth defects. All Palin has to say is if the subject comes up in the debate, "Does Senator Biden know that 94% of Down Syndrome CHILDREN (not fetus) are aborted when the defect is found in pre-natal testing and, since he recently stated he believes life begins at conception, does he support these abortions as good policy?" Tack on the fact that adult stem cells are where the actual progress is.
Anyhow. Bottomline: no we don't need to scream to high heaven but can use it as a missle in the debates and beyond.
Might want to consult a dictionary.

3) Obama will take a hit on this, even if he does apologize immediately. His increasing focus on Palin the last few days coupled with the media's obscene behavior toward her and her family will leave a decent percentage of the electorate thinking this "lipstick" remark was directed at her.

But, its another weak attempt by Obama to play off of Americans pecieved naiveness or flat out stupidity. He cant blatantly call Palin a pig, he;ll get skewered for it. As others more astute than me have pointed out, American voters are shrewd, like animals. They will sense this guy's weakness. It's visceral and soon will be pervasive, the sweet rotting smell of putrescence. This is the college professor who outside his class room can't change a tire and doesn't have a clue how to use a lug wrench without scraping his knuckles. And they will not elect a weakling to the Presidency. No way.
Obama the moron
September 9, 2008 - 21:17 ET by nkviking75You know, when Dan Quayle made verbal gaffes, the left gleefully labelled him an idiot. When George W. Bush mangled the language, that plus a million other mostly-imagined sins made him a Neanderthal. Unless this was intentional, we now have plenty of evidence to label Barack Obama a moron. And we ought to rub his nose in it.

And really how convenient it comes on the heels of Obama's drop in the polls and Dem strategists on TV saying they have a hard time attacking Palin.
Like I say I willing to dismiss a lot of Obama's gaffes but this was not a gaffe. Like the Kerry incident, I think there was a joke in here that Obama botched and then decided to get the punchline out there anyway. If you watch the tape closely, he seems to hesitate more than normal right before he says it, as if he's unsure the way it'll sound.

September 9, 2008 - 21:30 ET by stratmanBarry O'LameO never fails to dissappoint me with his unscripted Barakisms. Now he screws up with scripted comments.
Yesterday I read an article that said His Hopelessness: The Obama will lose big because he is a flake. The more I think about it, BLT Barry (black liberation theology, not bacon/lettuce/tomato) is a flake. He's not dumb, not stupid, just looks at the world 90 degrees off center all the time. Looking at this video of the false messiah, did anyone else think they were listening to Cartman from South Park? The way Whacko Barako kept saying the word "policy" sounded just like Cartman saying the word "authority", pronouncing the "y" as "ah" instead of "ee". (Cartman Video)

September 9, 2008 - 21:35 ET by CJK51I hate to sink to the level of liberals and try to find issue with every stupid thing someone says, even though Obama is a treasure trove of stupidity. On one hand, I think he was trying to say the Bush policies were the pig and McCain's policies were the lipstick, but he proved he's as lousy a stand-up comedian as he is an extemporaneous political speaker.
On the other hand, Obama and his staff cannot possibly be this stupid, to so poorly choose a metaphor involving lipstick on an animal in such close proiximity to Palin using a more flattering lipstick-on-an-animal metaphor a week ago. Or can they?
As many others have said here, perception is the key. Whatever Slappy Obama meant, if enough people think he was calling Palin a pig and it turns enough of them off, it could sway a lot of people to choose the McCain-Palin ticket. And Biden will REALLY have to watch himself to not step in it.

He called her a pig and that's what he meant to call her. He's an Arab racist showing his true Islamist disrespect, as Islamic Arabs do, for all women. Remember his slip up a few days ago when he admitted his 'Muslem faith'. He clings to his upbringing to hate and kill anyone who isn't Islamic. Sometimes in his haste or confusion the truth slips out.

A few thoughts
September 9, 2008 - 22:55 ET by matthewleonmartinObama isn't stupid enough to make such a blatently offensive statement on purpose.
I agree with Mike Huckabee, I think he merely spoke an idiom that he has used before and McCain has used recently himself (speaking about Hillarycare, of all things).
HOWEVER, it is clear the crowd interpreted it much more visciously. Therefore, Obama needs to apologize for any "misinterpretation."
I think, unfortunatly, this story is covering up the major Biden gaffe, when he insulted Sarah Palin and her special needs child:
“I hear all this talk about how the Republicans are going to work in
dealing with parents who have both the joy, because there's joy to it
as well, the joy and the difficulty of raising a child who has a
developmental disability, who were born with a birth defect. Well guess
what folks? If you care about it, why don't you support stem cell
research?”
THAT needs to be attacked.

Stem cell research - adult and fetal - has been legal for decades. Where the two parties disagree is on the issue of federal funding for fetal stem cell research. Biden was referring to fetal stem cell research as if it was illegal, but it's legal. He also implied that Trig is imperfect, after Palin made the very public statement that he's 'perfect'. Chalk it up as another 'Biden moment'. When he said it, he was trying to score points with the choir. That issue is easy to argue in a debate, I believe...
Irony
September 9, 2008 - 22:47 ET by ViperI have read through the comments about this latest foot in mouth episode and one thing that struck me was, isn't obama's campaign theme one that is based on change? And if I heard correctly, didn't he say in that speech that "You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still gonna stink."? Seems to me that he just said his campaign stinks!
Just me? Or do you think his statement could make good fodder for an upcoming debate. Especially since his campaign mission is change we can believe in. So, given that his campaign is based on change, this is one time I could agree with him that he can wrap it in all the paper he wants... it still stinks.

September 9, 2008 - 23:05 ET by caiobabeReally stupid and desperate comments from the dems nominee that should offend all especially those championing women's successes.
So I guess that if one said "that's like saying the pot is calling the kettel black", then that would be racist and directed at Barry Obama?
You know that every left winger lib would be jumping on that statement as negative against Barry O.

September 9, 2008 - 23:22 ET by VinncyGThe stupidity and desperation of the looney left is incredible to watch. Keep up the comments all you liberal fools because that's all you have left.
Shrewd Obama comment
September 9, 2008 - 23:35 ET by JJVThis is very shrewd by Obama. It is an old saying, however in this context after the convention it leaves it open for question. He can definitely play innocent. However, in light of his comments after her being named VP, and him only referring to her being the mayor of "Wasilly", and him being a part of the Daley machine in Chicago, one can easily conclude that this is a very deliberate shot at Palin.

He didn't mean to call her a pig...directly.
September 10, 2008 - 04:06 ET by smartestmaninamericaThe Bible says, "Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks..."
I don't think Obama consciously intended to call Palin a "pig", nor did he intend to refer to McCain as "an old fish"; however, these "slips" are just too darned Freudian to go without notice or concern.
Can you imagine the uproar in the MSM if John McCain referred to Obama as "the pot calling the kettle black", or that Obama is "a slave to his ambition"? The MSM would lose their minds over that even though those are both common expressions and neither considered to be racist on their own.
The point is, if Obama is ready for prime-time on the international stage, he should know better. It's not a question of rudeness, it's a question of judgement. Wars have been started for less.

September 10, 2008 - 05:06 ET by Jack BauerListening to this (yet another) shambolic speaking performance, I wonder when some one in the Main Stream Morons is going to point out the most obvious point about this "orator."
He is one of the most BORING uninspiring public speakers around. And I'm talking about when he has a teleprompter. Off-Teleprompter and it's amateur night out.
His cadence, his delivery, his sibilance, he inability to crack a joke, his timing, his crappy regional accents. They are AWFUL.
Of course, all those in the know, and the tank, know this. But they created the myth about his "oratory," and they just cannot drop it now. The Obamabots are in an orgasmic trance, of course, so they don't even hear what he says
I cannot stand the guys speaking skills. And no.. it hasn't nothing to do with his politics. Ted Kennedy is as loony as they come, a rabid socialist ... but I can listen to him because he has passion and energy and he knows how to deliver.
Listening to Obama is like spending an hour on the phone with the old speaking clock.
And don't even start me on his stage "presence." What is this constant pacing. It's like a form of Turret's Syndrome. Ants in his pants. It's VERY FRACKIN' annoying.

Obama's mommy was mean to him..
September 10, 2008 - 12:50 ET by cbinzo68It doesn't matter if Obama ment to call Palin a pig or not. I will NEVER vote for Obama.
He is just a little boy who has been trying to find out who he is, why his daddy left him, why he was cursed with a white mommy. While going to a Muslim school in Indonesia, he was taught to degrade women like all Muslims do. It will make him a better man he was told. But he still was lost. But then he found the Trinity United Church of Christ and after hanging out with Rev. Wright for 20 years, his mind was made up. He was the Chosen One!! He is above everybody and if anyone doesn't agree with him is a lying racist. Especially women who were bad and evil because he felt inferior to them.
What happened Obama? Was mommy mean to you? Oh, I know!! She was white!! That's a bad thing in Obama's eyes. Just read his books and you will see. This is why he hates women!
He's just an angry little boy who is mad because his mommy was not like the rest of the black children.
Grow up or get some counseling. President of the United States? I don't think so!!
