For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: McCain attends biker rally!
Thousands of motorcyclists greeted Republican presidential candidate John McCain with an approving roar Monday as he sought blue-collar and heartland support by visiting a giant motorcycle rally.
And then responds to Paris's ad:
McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds emails: “It sounds like Paris Hilton supports John McCain’s ‘all of the above’ approach to America’s energy crisis - including both alternatives and drilling. Paris Hilton might not be as big a celebrity as Barack Obama, but she obviously has a better energy plan.”
Is McCain showing that despite his age, he's a man of the people and NOT an arrogant, elite snob? Might these moves matter in November?

Latest indication: The David Letterman website has removed a"Top Ten" list that involved Obama.
There is a blank on July 29, the date of the list.
For those who missed it elsewhere, here is the list of Top Ten Signs That Obama is Overconfident About the Presidential Campaign:
10. Proposed bill to change Oklahoma to "Oklobama"
9. Offered Bush $20 for the "Mission Accomplished" banner
8. Asked guy at Staples, "Which chair will work best in an oval-shaped office?"
7. The affair with Barbara Walters
6. Having head measured for Mount Rushmore
5. Guy sits around eating soup all day
4. He's voting for Nader
3. Offered McCain a job in gift shop at Obama presidential library
2. Announced his running mate will be Andy Dick
1. Been cruising for chicks with John Edwards
One has to wonder if they removed it because it makes fun of the Obamessiah, or because of the dig at John Edwards.
Update: I just received the following email from Brent Baker:
That's a silly story based on a false premise. The list was posted in
error after it was edited from the show. It DID NOT air on the Late
Show.
So I stand corrected.
But I have a question: Why was it edited from the show?

August 6, 2008 - 15:38 ET by Chris NormanI know that the ommission of the "Top Ten List" has been explained in another post, but I still notice that these "Top Ten" items are not really skewering Obama. They are more like fond ribbing than anything else. I'd say they're more along the lines of the jokes about Clinton and Big Macs and fries from McDonalds when he was running.

But, it would be interesting to know if any of the revelers were pissed at the Secret Services intrusions and breaking up teh party for McCains security precautions. Sturgis is much better than Germany any day. A great sound bite but how much press will it get on the nets?

Barry's plane
August 6, 2008 - 11:36 ET by iveseenitallThere's a Snoops verified report that Barry switched the logo on his 757, at an expence of $500,00 to the taxpayer. He REMOVED THE AMERICAN FLAG! ("God DAMN America!")

August 6, 2008 - 12:20 ET by SouthJersey1953Here's the link. Turns out it was $500,000 total cost for complete overhaul of plane. No where on Snopes.com does it mention tax payer money.
Some really objective folks over at snopes.com
August 6, 2008 - 16:55 ET by ontherightBoy 'O boy, did snopes.com jump through some burning hoops and do some double back flips. They did everything they could to try and make it seem that the American flag, removed from the Obamessiah's plane, was "trademarked" by North American Airlines. However, after further scrutiny and according to their own links, this proved to be just another liberally biased smoke screen.
Me being the skeptic that I am, I followed the link provided by snopes to the North American "trademark" site: http://msgboard.snop...
What do you know...not the same trademarked logo/flag afterall, not even close.
Just for some fun; I followed the links to Dole's and Bush's campaign planes; low and behold - Both had the American flag prominently painted and/or affixed to the tail.
Furthermore, the flag on President Bush's plane was identical to the so-called "trademarked flag" that was removed from the B. Hussein O. plane.
I provided both links below for the sake of comparison.
North American link - 4th picture at this link - http://www.snopes.co...
Bush link - http://www.airliners...
So I'm thinking to myself, "self, how was there no problem with candidate Bush using the so-called "trademarked" flag, but B. Hussein O. was apparently restricted from using the same?" In reply, I said, "self, this is a bunch BS".
AND - as far as "tax-payer" money...the comment is technically correct. Campaign contributions would in fact be "tax-payer" money... Either way, the liberally biased "bones" are buried at SNOPES.COM; a site, until just recently, I thought was providing a somewhat valuable "public service".

I'm not sure...
August 6, 2008 - 12:26 ET by ontheright...I would lend a lot, no scratch that, any credence to what the "mom and pop shop" called snopes.com would have to say.
I personally went to snopes (as I have done many times before in efforts to debunk email stories sent by well meaning friends and family) and searched on Obama. Every single derogatory entry that was returned was labeled as FALSE. Even where his book was directly quoted, snopes denied the existence of the printed word and called the "accusation" FALSE. Something fishy in Denmark I thought.
So, seeing what I thought was clearly unabashed bias I decided to do some background research on snopes.
Found this to be rather interesting, among others. - see link.

A correction for the record...
August 6, 2008 - 13:02 ET by Clear thinkerA week ago, I was banned from the Real Climate, but almost immediately found the DotEarth site run by Andrew C. Revkin as a replacement. It was convenient for me to debate at DotEarth because I was posting to some of the very same people that write on RC. Before I ever wrote my first comment on DotEarth, I spent over 3 hours reading as many posts as possible. One of the things that impressed me was Mr. Revkin seemed to allow both sides of the argument to post. Also, not one post mentioned anything about being banned or had their posts denied. Gullible old me then decided "great, here's a place that I can post the opposing side without fear of censorship". Wrong!!!
As of this morning, Mr. Revkin has evidently decided to censor all of my postings. As of last night I had 5 postings on different thread subjects waiting in queue to be posted, and this morning I find them lost in the cyber winds.
I was always polite and civil. I never resorted to name calling, and I stayed on subject. Chalk up another site whereby the ALARMISTS want to control the discussion, and add Mr. Revkin to the list of those that refuse to be fair and only want to promote the idea that the sky is falling.

Martin Savage had two political talking heads on when I walked in the room...

I thought it priceless....
