For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: is there no limit to Bush Derangement Syndrome?

Four peace activists were arrested on Friday as they attempted to make a "citizens arrest" of Karl Rove, who was one of President George W. Bush's top aides before leaving the administration last year. "It should be Karl Rove in that van. War Criminal!" one of a dozen protestors shouted as the four were put into a police van outside a Des Moines country club where Rove spoke at a private state Republican party fundraiser.

Is there no limit to this insanity, and will it ever end?

Good morning all.Sunday morning waffles.Yay!(not intended to be a reference to Obama).

Everybody loves (and agrees with) Obama

Notice how everybody now agrees with Obama? The Iraqi president; the French president; McCain; the Pentagon; Christians; Muslims; the German people; Mr. Brown -- absolutely everyone.

The Obama campaign has now made this its central theme -- and there is no evidence, discussion, or oposing opinion that will get in its way. The Wonderful Adventures of Obama have now made him an experienced stateman and king of the world.

Go [to he&&] Obama!

Accomplice? Ok, so by his own Bush war crime rationale and mindset, he's rightfully in the police van. The End.

This liberal hyperbole for

This liberal hyperbole for everything they disagree with is really geting tiresome! Like the insufficient federal response to Katrina was "attempted genocide."

Throwing around this "crimes against humanity" crap just diminishes the real thing.

Exactly what "crimes against humanity" are they accusing Rove of? (We're going to have to start using "scare quotes" or the phrase "so-called" when referring to these "crimes.")

Oh, I forgot; in their eyes, his very existence is a "crime against humanity."

"the insufficient federal

"the insufficient federal response to Katrina"

You know, I still don't get this. President Bush met with the Senator from LA (what's her name) and with the local officials days prior to the hurrican landing, urging them to do something and offering his assistance. They steadfastly refused. At one point he threatened to simply take over because of their ineptitude. Afterwards, we learn about the stranded schoolbusses and other acts of total incompetance, but by then it's too late. Then the Dims and the MSM get involved, and whom do they blame? Bush, not the local officials. And this has been turned into "fact" that is spouted day in and day out. I think we need to get the whole story out in the open again, and start to counter this lie.

Unfortunately, TNT

it will take 50 years and true, objective historians to sort everything out...we are living in the midst of historic times, and the passion of the moment is clouding the facts( not to mention the MSM). It will take a more civilised time somewhere in the future to sort this decade out and then the truth will come out, and all the lies of the dims discredited...

We can only hope that sites

We can only hope that sites like Newsbusters is part of that reveiwed record in 50 years, because there's a lot of information that's being suppressed, and falsehoods that are being created, by all the other sources and "papers of record".

50 years and then some...

Little known fact:

The Army Corp of Engineers designed the NoLa levees with the proposal that the storm drain canals would act as bleed off FROM Lake Pontchartrain to handle a storm surge. The local NoLa government shot down this aspect of the plan because it would be ‘too costly’ to divert storm drains elsewhere and decided to channel the storm drains INTO the lake leaving the water nothing to do but rise.

Hhmm, where exactly

Hhmm, where exactly should the runoff drain? Considering the Mississippi river is considerably higher then the City and Ponchitrian. The River also separates the City and the Gulf, meanwhile the Lake is the same height as the Gulf. Please explain just how the logistics of how this drainage system would work, without making water run uphill. Thanks

"Television is a freak show" Bernie Goldberg

where?

Is exactly what they, LA local gov, did not want to pay for.

It was too costly to run the storm drains to another location.

The point being is the local gov knew, when the levees were built, what they were desinged to stand up to.

Sorry, maybe I wasnt clear

It was too costly to run the storm drains to another location.

This "location" being where? The bottom line is, they are very limited in where and how they can drain the city, none of witch paid much to do with Katrina. The Lake has free flow to the gulf, if there is a storm serge, it will be coming from the gulf, the fact that the water drains into the lake will have little affect on a storm serge. Also we have spillways we can flood. Depending on where you are going with this water could have a serious consequences on the wildlife and fish. Most of the surrounding water other then the Mississippi is salt of brackish water.

But what I really want to understand is the logistics of this plan

"Television is a freak show" Bernie Goldberg

logistics

I don't know what the alternate plan was. The report, that i first on NPR ( and there is nobody defending the Army Corp on NPR) and later researched, just gave the facts about the original designs "shortcomimngs". They did not get into what the 'other' plan was or should have been. Just that the lake was supposed to be able to 'exhale out' into the channels, through gates, to avoid rising too high and pouring over the levees.

Again, they did not state what the proposed alternative was to handle the storm drain run off. Maybe a collection pond and pumping station?

 There has and always will

There has and always will be competition for ideas in how we should handle storm problems in NO. Quite honestly some of these people and politicians do not always have the city as their sole beneficiary. There are some good ideas though, but the first thing we need to address is the quality of the levies. During Katrina the levies were undermined, not topped. We need to correct things like this first.

"Television is a freak show" Bernie Goldberg

Actually there are many

Actually there are many options open to drain teh swamp.  I deal in this engineering everyday and NO could have drained the area by pumping, look at the Netherlands they do it all the time, or by detention fairly easily.  The idea is cost and NO did not want to pony up and they paid teh price.

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.

Well, TnT, that's their

Well, TnT, that's their story and they're stickin' to it!

That's the way they played, and continue to play it; I didn't mean that I agree with it. Someone (Spike Lee?) did say that Bush purposely didn't help because he wanted all those black people to die.

I didn't think it was physically possible, but this both sucks and blows. -Bart Simpson

Heard a guy on the radio last week who said it's time to give a Democrat president a try because Bush the Republican president didn't let rescuers start rescuing people until 7 days after Katrina. Of course, he's either an ignorant fool, or a blatant liar, but that's where we are.

It's too late now. The time for countering the BS was 3 years ago when it all started. Instead, Bush and the Republicans surrendered the issue, and the rest is history.

You'll likely get your wish though, because I have no doubt it will become part of the campaign, especially during the Dem convention, and any debates. Only problem is McCain won't fight back on the issue either, he'll agree with it.

You're corect on McCain --

You're corect on McCain -- he won't fight at all. Too concerned about the other sides feelings, even as they are stabbing him in the back. (I was about to say you're right on McCain, but I've learned that that word simply doesn't apply to him at all).

Truth

Liberals who pull these stunts are driven by the belief that their truth is more important than any social structure, like the police. Because, you see, they're right. The passion of their belief outweighs (to them) the need to respect anyone else.

It doesn't surprise me that such arrogance would find a candidate in He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Criticized.

a consservative coup

Conservatives need to stop withdrawing from society and start taking it over. Insted of home schooling we need to become teachers, run for school boards and take back the institutions that liberals took over 40 years ago.

I waited for decades for Republicans to have all 3 branches of GOVT and they totally kicked us to the curb. We need to stop putting our time and energy in politicians and put them into society. Get involved at schools!

I agree! Educate, not indoctrinate.

Right on Opn!   Can anyone out there give me a legit reason why children should not be taught critical thinking and logic from say, the 6th grade on?

Seriously, why is how to think critically/logically not standard curriculum in every public school?

The public school system is nothing more than an indoctrination system for how to behave as a part of the herd.

If you make people think they're thinking, they'll love youBut if you really make them think, they'll hate you.

Gary Gygax would have turned 70 today...

Here's an interesting analysis.

Did The Hopeful Changer speak to 200,000 or 20,000 in Berlin?

Thirdly, why is The Messiah stealing ideas from Fidel?

Man, the hits keep on coming.

Speaking of the Pride of the Left, a member of the Left's Hall of Fame, 65 years ago today, issued Order #227: We can no longer tolerate commanders, commissars, and political officers, whose units leave their defenses at will. We can no longer tolerate the fact that the commanders, commissars and political officers allow several cowards to run the show at the battlefield, that the panic-mongers carry away other soldiers in their retreat and open the way to the enemy. Panic-mongers and cowards are to be exterminated at the site.

And, finally, The Bitch in the Ditch does a campaign stop.

Re the stealing ideas from

Re the stealing ideas from Fidel, Obam says this:

"We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the
national security objectives that we've set. We've got to have a
civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as
strong, just as well-funded."

Holy Cow!!!

Is he talking about a nationalized, federalized, police force?

Will anyone call him out on this????

government depends not just on the consent of the governed, but on the service of citizens.

Translation - the government isn't there to serve the people, the people are there to serve the government.

If you haven't read the entire transcript from that speech it behooves you to do so. Replace America with Russia and that speech could have come right from Stalin's diary. I am not even joking.

one of my best friends has BDS

so I avoid talking about politics with him whenever possible. He's always been fairly liberal as long as I've known him, but he really drank the kool-aid over the last four years. I didn't care about asking why and then getting a long string of left-wing nonsense in reply

I would go out of my way to talk specifics with this person. If they are a true friend why would you want them to carry bad information? Those closest to us are the most reachable. I would tend to disagree with you on this one. Like Jnoble, I have a good friend who I've known since junior high who has a predominantly liberal view of things. We have an unspoken rule about not bringing up politics (which becomes difficult after a few beers).

Despite being friends, we have gotten into near physical confrontations over politics. It's a waste of time and we both know it. Even though I might think he's carrying around "bad information", ultimately I respect the guy's intelligence and recognize that we have different opinions on things that are so deep rooted in our world views that a conversation or two won't change that.

In fact, all that ends up happening is that a nice evening of hangin' out ends up getting crapped on.

But then, this is just my take based on my personal experience.

ultimately I respect the guy's intelligence

What intelligence? Any adult that cares to check out "both sides of the story" cannot continue to support Marxist redistributionist policies if they observe the consequences. I am an engineer by training and by trade. I have to go with what actually works, not pie-in-the-sky. When I was younger I entertained a number of hippy/socialist concepts. They always sound so good. However, after seeing their effects on the countries/cultures involved, it becomes obvious that those ideas don't work here on planet Earth with real humans involved. So, I changed my list of "what works" accordingly. Not doing so is a fault of religious belief in an idea as opposed to rational adult thinking. Intelligent people are willing to modify their thinking based on facts and observations of reality.

Sci-Tech Encyclopedia: Intelligence (in part, ed.)

General mental ability due to the integrative and adaptive functions of the brain that permit complex, unstereotyped, purposive responses to novel or changing situations, involving discrimination, generalization, learning, concept formation, inference, mental manipulation of memories, images, words and abstract symbols, education of relations and correlates, reasoning, and problem solving.

for a couple of reasons

..first, I'm not a confrontational guy, so I don't like debating or arguing to start with. Second, my friend as cool as he is, can be a total ass when it comes to politics and there's just no point in being rational or logical when talking about politics with someone with a really bad case of BDS or a die-hard liberal in general. You might as well be talking to a brick wall

On the other hand....

"Possible talking point: is there no limit to Bush Derangement Syndrome?....Is there no limit to this insanity, and will it ever end?"

Try me, coward.  What crimes?

Whoever casts a vote for Barack Obama is nothing more than a common thief.  Whoever fails to vote against him is nothing more than a moral coward.

 First off, concerning how

First off, concerning how we should handle folks with extreme cases of BDS...let's just say I do not subscribe to the Gandhi school of politics.

If these lunatics insist on acting like the brown shirts they are, then they need to be treated as brown shirts, and have their attitudes readjusted with, as we say in my business, "percussive adjustments".

Just a few adjustments on live television would give folks with BDS a clear picture on how civilized people treat folks who insist on acting uncivilized. Who of us would allow a mad dog to wander in our neighborhood knowing it could harm you or your family? Frankly, these folks are acting like mad dogs. If you want to be treated as civilized, you must act civilized. We can not tolerate bullies. We do not have to tolerate bullies.

We can not tolerate

We can not tolerate bullies. We do not have to tolerate bullies.

Interestingly enough, it's been my hypothesis for quite some time that the real difference between the loony-left and, well, most everyone else I guess, is the difference in whom they see as the bullies.

The far loony left sees the U.S. of A. as the bully, whereas the rest of us tends to see us as the bullied. Personally, as one that was bullied, I see how it's not hard to go from one to the other, but I think the U.S. does an admirable job of keeping their hands (military might) to themselves for the most part.

Fascism is a religious conception in which man is seen in his imminent relationship with a superior law and with an objective will that transcends the particular individual - Mussolini

New subject CNN

Just a note to all. CNN is having a presentation now. Billed as an interview with Blitzer of Obama and McCain, so far all I've seen is an Obama friendly audience, Suzzanne Malveaux (sp?), and Obama. In the background is a banner "CHANGING WORLD."

This next is an edit, removing an error. CNN did have McCain earlier, according to Blitzer. I missed it. We, of course must assume CNN was as helpful to McCain as they were to Obama. Right.

Say What?

During the presentation Obama was asked if he will visit a mosque. During his reply, Obama said he has been to many mosques and visited with many Muslim leaders. This is news to me.

Many Mosques? Many Muslim leaders?

Then why are Muslims upset that he is snubbing them?

According to the NYT as of June 24, Obama has yet to visit a mosque:

While the senator has visited churches and synagogues, he has yet to
appear at a single mosque. Muslim and Arab-American organizations have
tried repeatedly to arrange meetings with Mr. Obama, but officials with
those groups say their invitations — unlike those of their Jewish and
Christian counterparts — have been ignored.

The article also says:

In May, Mr. Obama also had a brief, private meeting with the leader [singular] of
a mosque in Dearborn, Mich., home to the country’s largest
concentration of Arab-Americans. And this month, a senior campaign aide
met with Arab-American leaders in Dearborn, most of whom are Muslim.
(all emphasis added)

I repeat: Many mosques? Many Muslim leaders???

Once again the exaggeration, with confidence that no one will check up on him.

I will say this again: he is showing signs of becoming a Bill Clinton-like liar.

I didn't think it was physically possible, but this both sucks and blows. -Bart Simpson

It may turn out that Obama has been to many mosques, but he and his crew just "forgot" to tell anyone. Until now.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.........except the lies.;^/

Hagel is "still unsure" who he's gonna vote for in Nov?

See, if Obama asks him to be V.P., he'll vote for Obama. If not, he'll probably vote for McCain.

Hagel is a nice guy. But he's a good example of a politician who has confused being broadminded with caving in on a point of principle.

Why is it people intent on comitting an act of violence against Karl Rove are called "peace activists" by elements of the old media --- and the old media gets away with it?

The MSM Guaranteed Bounce for BHO Polls

It was a Given, with ALL three Alphabet Networks climbing on board BHO's plane, that the Preferred Candidate would get SO MUCH coverage he almost HAD to get a Bounce in the Polls.

McCain doesn't have enough money to counter this Brown nosing act by the Media.  The playing field is not Level, and is so slanted I'm surprised  McCain can still stand up.

After so much "Positive" loving coverage of BHO by the MSM, McCain's political Ads HAVE TO LOOK NEGATIVE compared to the wall to wall Video's by the MSM.

A McCain Ad has to sorta look Sacrilegious, doesn't it ?

Jay, I was just about to

Jay, I was just about to post the new poll with his 9-point lead.

Well, what did we expect? If McCain had gone to Iraq and IF they covered it like they have been covering Obama, he would have had a bounce too. It always happens when the nets have glowing reports on one person for a whole week.

The rub is to see if the bounce lasts.

I commented above that Obama is starting to take on Bill Clinton's pathological liar tendencies..

Just this morning I read an article (I wish I could find it again!!) about the difference in the way Obama and McCain handle their "gaffes." McCain says "oops!" corrects it and moves on. Obama, on the other hand, goes to great lengths to defend his gaffes...to "clarify" or "explain" why it wasn't really a gaffe, that what he said was correct but misinterpreted, or if it was really a mistake, was someone else's fault.

This is not a trait to endear him to voters. If the media do their job and cover the misstatements and defensive maneuvers, it may have an impact.

That's a big "IF" though.
