For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: An Inconvenient Opera?

First it was the film and the book. Now the next stop for Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" is opera. La Scala officials say the Italian composer Giorgio Battistelli has been commissioned to produce an opera on the international multiformat hit for the 2011 season at the Milan opera house.

Can you believe this? An opera about a schlockumentary? Are you kidding me?

Can you predict some of the song titles and themes?

Don't believe 'em. Hard money people like me have been warning 'em for years, and failed regulators don't need to waste any more of our tax money. It's sad that bloggers like Ted Butler & Jason Hommel have had to do 100% of the journalism regarding this coming scandal, but it's hardly surprising...

possible song choices

How do you make an opera around CGI images of water and stock footage of polar bears? There wasn't even a plot to it....

Nonetheless, I'm sure they'll keep plowing forward with this idea. To that end, it wouldn't hurt to help them come up with some catchy songs to at least make it toe tapping.

Here are a few songs they can use to spice up Algore's musical (borrowed from a few better known musicals):

-At the end of the day after tomorrow

-And all that gas

-I feel hungry

-The awful battle of the hippies and the neocons

-Someone to tax more of mine

-My favorite things (as Algore counts his money in his lair)

Good list, candance.. I

Good list, candance..

I was thinking more along the lines of "I Feel Sweaty".....

"And All That Gas" of course, is Al Gore's aria, right?

All That Gas lyrics

Come on babe, why don't we tax the poor

For all that gas

We'll get revenge and settle our old scores

For all that gas

Start the plane, we'll find a handy spot, where it makes it look like the Arctic's hot

The polar bears might die up there

From all

that

gas

Slick your hair and wear some shiny shoes

For all that gas

They'll let us talk on the cable news

For all that gas

Wake up doll, we're making ethanol to fill my private jet that serves as my UHaul

When the planet farts we'll need a brand new start, away from

Gas!

Skidoo!

From all that gas!

We'll tax your children!

For all that gas

Bwa ha ha ha ha!

For all that gas

Who needs facts? We're playing fast and loose

With all that gas

Buy a hybrid to store your juice

And all that gas

Come on babe, we're gonna cruise the sky, I bet ya Lucky Lindy never got so high

From the stratosphere we will lend our ears!

For all that gas

You're gonna see food be hard to buy

From all that gas

Kids in Africa will start to cry

From all that gas

Start the plane, we'll find a handy spot, where it makes it look like the Arctic's hot

The polar bears might die up there

From all

that

Cool, Montanas withdrawl from the union, would not be a secession. There was a clause in the Montana Constitution when they became a state. It is to the effect, that if the US ever cripples the second amendment, and declares that individuals do not have the right to bare arms, the contract is null and void and they will no longer be a part of the union. It will be a breach of contract on the part of the federal goverment.

Or, using a backspin, I wish NY, CA, CT, MA, ME, NH would join VT in their efforts and leave the rest of us as the good old USA, a country of Americans , for Americans and by Americans.

WND today has a "fisking"

WND today has a "fisking" of Obama's recent "gaffes." But are they gaffes, or misleading statements....IOW..lies?

Obama, in a 2002 anti-war speech said the following:

"My grandfather signed up for a war the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed, fought in Patton's army. He saw the dead and dying across the fields of Europe; he heard the stories of fellow troops who first entered Auschwitz and Treblinka. (emphasis added)
So apparently in 2002 he KNEW that his grandfather wasn't at Auschwitz! Did he forget?
Records also show that his grandfather didn't enlist until 6 months after Pearl Harbor.

Also

But in his autobiography, "Dreams of [sic] My Father," Obama states his grandfather never engaged in combat.
"Gramps returned from the war never having seen real combat, and the family moved to California, where he enrolled at Berkeley under the GI bill," he writes. "But the classroom couldn't contain his ambitions, his restlessness, and so the family moved again."

And Redstate.org has a column by Jeff Emmanuel in which he describes Obama as having A pathological Need to Be a Part of History

Money quote:

The litany of issues and events Obama has attempted to take ownership
of via family involvement reads like a proposed script for
Forrest Gump 2, this time starring the Obama family tree...

If you red the transcript (on his website) of his New Mexico speech, there is no mention of Auschwitz, nor is there a mention fallen soldiers in the audience. I doubt that they were there in the written speech. I think it was just Obama, ad-libbing, trying to inject himself and his family into the situation, as he seems wont to do.

R. Emmett Tyrell, in his Meet the Gaffable Barack Obama may have the explanation for this. He says:

Now, people who know Obama have been telling me for months that he is a
very likable fellow and very clever. The problem he has, they say, is
that things come easily to him. So easily that oftentimes, he simply
wings it, expecting his facile mind to get him through. That makes
sense. The tendency to wing it is encouraged all the more by Obama's
insufferable arrogance.

(empahsis added)

So what is it about Sen. Obama that requires him to inject himself personally into historical situations, and is it his "insufferable arrogance" that causes him to believe he won't get caught at it?

motherbelt

Excellent information. More and more people are starting to see through him.

My grandfather actually did fight and suffer in WW2 and it's infuriating how politicians make stuff up about their own families to make themselves look more sincere. My grandfather's story was not some patriotic fairy tale.

Wexler: McClellan Must Testify Under Oath Before House Judiciary Committee
Former White House Aide's Revelations Make Out Case for Obstruction of Justice by Rove and Libby in Valerie Plame Case

(Washington, DC)  Today Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL) called for former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan to appear before the House Judiciary Committee to testify under oath regarding the devastating revelations made in his new book on the Bush Administration’s deliberate efforts to mislead the American people into the Iraq War.

“The admissions made by Scott McClellan in his new book are earth-shattering and allege facts to establish that Karl Rove and Scooter Libby – and possibly Vice President Cheney -  conspired to obstruct justice by lying about their role in the Plame Wilson matter and that the Bush Administration deliberately lied to the American people in order to take us to war in Iraq. Scott McClellan must now appear before the House Judiciary Committee under oath to tell Congress and the American people how President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, Scooter Libby, and White House officials deliberately orchestrated a massive propaganda campaign to sell the war in Iraq to the American people.”

“The allegations by this former top White House aide – that Rove and Libby deliberately coordinated their stories in order to obstruct justice in the Plame case, that the President deliberately disregarded contradictory evidence related to Iraq, should outrage every American and Congress must respond by initiating immediate aggressive oversight starting with an appearance by McClellan before the House Judiciary Committee.  Any continued obstruction by this Administration to prevent White House officials from appearing before Congress cannot be tolerated by this Congress in the face of these shocking revelations.”

Congressman Wexler has led a nationwide campaign in favor of holding impeachment hearings for Vice-President Dick Cheney.  Congressman Wexler is Chairman of the Europe Subcommittee and a senior member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the House Judiciary Committee.

Special Needs Kid Voted Out Of Class By Fellow Kindergartners

I have a child with autism and our family currently homeschools and now I know why (well maybe one of the reasons anyway)

http://www.breitbart...

Since autism and asperger's syndrome are social disorders, what this "teacher" has done has not only hurt the child, but also the other "neurotypical" children in the class. Now those children have been put through a situation where it is ok to single out the "special" kid under the guise that he is disruptive. Our education system fails on so many levels and this for me is very sad and disheartening. For all of you who have children, please....please talk to them and make sure they understand that this is not right. At this point my autistic 7 year old has no real friends (except his 3 year old brother) and it is my prayer that eventually he finds a couple of really good friends who will accept him for who he is.

To allow kindergartners

To allow kindergartners this kind of power is not only outrageous, it is insane!!

God bless your family. I too will say a prayer that some really good kids find your son.

I saw a bit about this

I saw a bit about this again on the news today at noon.  They said the teacher wanted to shame the child into behaving and ceasing from disruptive behavior.

I say, the teacher should be ashamed and fired and kept out of an future teaching positions if she's so incompetent that she thinks she can shame a child with special needs into behaving less disruptively.  I am so disgusted with her.

"Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war"  - Shakespeare

Obviously this teacher...

Obviously this teacher knows absolutely 0 about the childs disorder, since most persons on the spectrum do not have the same sort of perception or feelings in the abstract (i.e. shame, guilt etc) Those types of feelings and emotions come natually to neurotypical children but not for those on the autism spectrum. My wife and I have worked for the last four years with our son to equip him with tools to help him understand these types of abstract thoughts. We are fortunate that he is considered high functioning, however social situations will always be difficult for him.

Lastly, I can already see that this teacher is beginning to hide behind the principal, school board and teacher's union...they will be just as guilty as she is if they condone this behavior.

Federal judge condones illegal actions

A Federal judge ruled that a Dallas suburb's ordinance forbidding renting to illegals as unconsitutional. He said only the Federal government can regulate immigration.

What he has in fact done is condoned the harboring of criminals. What he has said is that only the Federal government can enforce Federal laws.

The problem with this MORON is that ordinance has nothing to do with enforcing immigration. The ordinance states that a person that is in the US illegally cannot rent in this town.

How do these dopes get to be judges?

If conservatives are RIGHT, then liberals must be WRONG.

»→ LionKing

Evidently these judges believe it is illegal for Americans to be vigilant of their safety.

"LA JOYA, May 24 - Members of La Unión del Pueblo Entero say they are out to make sure local police officers do not overstep their efforts to keep the peace by acting as Border Patrol in the western communities of Hidalgo County.

Starting in La Joya on Friday, LUPE began a series of meetings with acting chiefs of local police departments to clarify enforcement procedures in an area that police say is well-known for drug trafficking, human smuggling, and immigration. LUPE also plans to meet with police chiefs in Peñitas, Palmview, and Mission.

“Is it being an officer for the safety and security of these residents in the area or is it to find out who is here without documents,” asked LUPE Director Juanita Valdez-Cox. “I think it was very helpful to have this meeting, and to make it clear that LUPE and the La Joya PD should work together in an effort to erase the fear from the residents that they're acting as Border Patrol.”

This is a general response to all 3 of you.

Here's what I see happening. Both the House and Senate will have many more Dems in it than we would like. In fact they will have a super majority, and be able to over ride any veto that McCain hands back to them.  So whether a Dem wins the WH is a moot point. The dems will have all the control they need and I think they will go after Rush and other Conservative commentators like a witch hunt gone bad.

Now how many of you think this alone could create a mini-civil war?

"Abstain from McCain"

CT....The Dems that recently won, were Conservative Dems.

The Mississippi Dem. that won the recent Republican seat, won it  running towards the Middle, not the Far Left.

Even when the Fairness Doctrine was contemplated last year, it was met with a lot of noise from "Americans".  It would be a Supreme Court Docket Suit for sure.....but sometimes I think the MSM mantra starts to sound too much like the Truth, and even NB'ers fall Victim to the constant MSM Mantra.   Then West Virginia or Kentucky "Speaks"....and the MSM wasn't listening or Reporting.

Obama is going nowhere, a winning war Strategy is going to be Obvious, The Economy is NOT in Recession,....and the current Dems in Office are not Fixing the price of Oil.

I don't see a Congressional landslide coming.  I see a 75% dis-Approval rating for Congress.   My Dog could beat any Encumbant...but only if my Cat decided NOT to run.

Clear....After Obama loses by double Digits..again..nationally

After Obama loses the National Election by Double Digits, The Dems might get a message they understand. . .

Heck, by Nov. he may pull a Gore, and not carry his Home State...Illinois borders on Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri, Wisconson, Iowa.....he may win Iowa...but he won't win carry the others (I'm predicting the Future here, please forgive me).

I used to get up early and never miss C-SPAN for over a decade or more, I have phoned in over the years, but it has changed so sometimes I forget all about it anymore...anyone interested I thought I would throw it in here.

Texas Supreme Court: "Removal of the children was not warranted"

See... I told you so:

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - In a crushing blow to the state's massive seizure of
children from a polygamist sect's ranch, the Texas Supreme Court ruled
Thursday that child welfare officials overstepped their authority and
the children should go back to their parents.

The high court affirmed a decision by an appellate court last week,
saying Child Protective Services failed to show an immediate danger to
the more than 400 children swept up from the Yearning For Zion Ranch
nearly two months ago.

"On the record before us, removal of the children was not warranted," the justices said in their ruling issued in Austin... More >>
