For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: An Inconvenient Opera?
First it was the film and the book. Now the next stop for Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" is opera. La Scala officials say the Italian composer Giorgio Battistelli has been commissioned to produce an opera on the international multiformat hit for the 2011 season at the Milan opera house.
Can you believe this? An opera about a schlockumentary? Are you kidding me?
Can you predict some of the song titles and themes?

WND today has a "fisking"
May 29, 2008 - 11:08 ET by motherbeltWND today has a "fisking" of Obama's recent "gaffes." But are they gaffes, or misleading statements....IOW..lies?
Obama, in a 2002 anti-war speech said the following:
"My grandfather signed up for a war the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed, fought in Patton's army. He saw the dead and dying across the fields of Europe; he heard the stories of fellow troops who first entered Auschwitz and Treblinka. (emphasis added)
So apparently in 2002 he KNEW that his grandfather wasn't at Auschwitz! Did he forget?
Records also show that his grandfather didn't enlist until 6 months after Pearl Harbor.
Also
But in his autobiography, "Dreams of [sic] My Father," Obama states his grandfather never engaged in combat.
"Gramps returned from the war never having seen real combat, and the family moved to California, where he enrolled at Berkeley under the GI bill," he writes. "But the classroom couldn't contain his ambitions, his restlessness, and so the family moved again."
And Redstate.org has a column by Jeff Emmanuel in which he describes Obama as having A pathological Need to Be a Part of History
Money quote:
The litany of issues and events Obama has attempted to take ownership
of via family involvement reads like a proposed script for Forrest Gump 2, this time starring the Obama family tree...
If you red the transcript (on his website) of his New Mexico speech, there is no mention of Auschwitz, nor is there a mention fallen soldiers in the audience. I doubt that they were there in the written speech. I think it was just Obama, ad-libbing, trying to inject himself and his family into the situation, as he seems wont to do.
R. Emmett Tyrell, in his Meet the Gaffable Barack Obama may have the explanation for this. He says:
Now, people who know Obama have been telling me for months that he is a
very likable fellow and very clever. The problem he has, they say, is
that things come easily to him. So easily that oftentimes, he simply
wings it, expecting his facile mind to get him through. That makes
sense. The tendency to wing it is encouraged all the more by Obama's
insufferable arrogance.
(empahsis added)
So what is it about Sen. Obama that requires him to inject himself personally into historical situations, and is it his "insufferable arrogance" that causes him to believe he won't get caught at it?

May 29, 2008 - 11:11 ET by candanceExcellent information. More and more people are starting to see through him.

Wexler: McClellan Must Testify Under Oath Before House Judiciary Committee
Former White House Aide's Revelations Make Out Case for Obstruction of Justice by Rove and Libby in Valerie Plame Case
(Washington, DC) Today Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL) called for former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan to appear before the House Judiciary Committee to testify under oath regarding the devastating revelations made in his new book on the Bush Administration’s deliberate efforts to mislead the American people into the Iraq War.
“The admissions made by Scott McClellan in his new book are earth-shattering and allege facts to establish that Karl Rove and Scooter Libby – and possibly Vice President Cheney - conspired to obstruct justice by lying about their role in the Plame Wilson matter and that the Bush Administration deliberately lied to the American people in order to take us to war in Iraq. Scott McClellan must now appear before the House Judiciary Committee under oath to tell Congress and the American people how President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, Scooter Libby, and White House officials deliberately orchestrated a massive propaganda campaign to sell the war in Iraq to the American people.”
“The allegations by this former top White House aide – that Rove and Libby deliberately coordinated their stories in order to obstruct justice in the Plame case, that the President deliberately disregarded contradictory evidence related to Iraq, should outrage every American and Congress must respond by initiating immediate aggressive oversight starting with an appearance by McClellan before the House Judiciary Committee. Any continued obstruction by this Administration to prevent White House officials from appearing before Congress cannot be tolerated by this Congress in the face of these shocking revelations.”
Congressman Wexler has led a nationwide campaign in favor of holding impeachment hearings for Vice-President Dick Cheney. Congressman Wexler is Chairman of the Europe Subcommittee and a senior member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the House Judiciary Committee.

Special Needs Kid Voted Out Of Class By Fellow Kindergartners
May 29, 2008 - 12:39 ET by arbin82I have a child with autism and our family currently homeschools and now I know why (well maybe one of the reasons anyway)
http://www.breitbart...
Since autism and asperger's syndrome are social disorders, what this "teacher" has done has not only hurt the child, but also the other "neurotypical" children in the class. Now those children have been put through a situation where it is ok to single out the "special" kid under the guise that he is disruptive. Our education system fails on so many levels and this for me is very sad and disheartening. For all of you who have children, please....please talk to them and make sure they understand that this is not right. At this point my autistic 7 year old has no real friends (except his 3 year old brother) and it is my prayer that eventually he finds a couple of really good friends who will accept him for who he is.
To allow kindergartners
May 29, 2008 - 12:50 ET by motherbeltTo allow kindergartners this kind of power is not only outrageous, it is insane!!
God bless your family. I too will say a prayer that some really good kids find your son.
I saw a bit about this
May 29, 2008 - 13:30 ET by HelenSI saw a bit about this again on the news today at noon. They said the teacher wanted to shame the child into behaving and ceasing from disruptive behavior.
I say, the teacher should be ashamed and fired and kept out of an future teaching positions if she's so incompetent that she thinks she can shame a child with special needs into behaving less disruptively. I am so disgusted with her.
"Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war" - Shakespeare
Obviously this teacher...
May 29, 2008 - 14:37 ET by arbin82Obviously this teacher knows absolutely 0 about the childs disorder, since most persons on the spectrum do not have the same sort of perception or feelings in the abstract (i.e. shame, guilt etc) Those types of feelings and emotions come natually to neurotypical children but not for those on the autism spectrum. My wife and I have worked for the last four years with our son to equip him with tools to help him understand these types of abstract thoughts. We are fortunate that he is considered high functioning, however social situations will always be difficult for him.
Lastly, I can already see that this teacher is beginning to hide behind the principal, school board and teacher's union...they will be just as guilty as she is if they condone this behavior.
Federal judge condones illegal actions
May 29, 2008 - 12:55 ET by LionKingA Federal judge ruled that a Dallas suburb's ordinance forbidding renting to illegals as unconsitutional. He said only the Federal government can regulate immigration.
What he has in fact done is condoned the harboring of criminals. What he has said is that only the Federal government can enforce Federal laws.
The problem with this MORON is that ordinance has nothing to do with enforcing immigration. The ordinance states that a person that is in the US illegally cannot rent in this town.
