For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: McCain's age and health:
Three-time melanoma survivor John McCain appears cancer-free, has a strong heart and is in otherwise general good health, according to eight years of medical records reviewed by The Associated Press...But Mayo internist Dr. John Eckstein, his longtime personal physician, lauded McCain's performance on a heart stress test - sweating it out for 10 minutes when Eckstein routinely sees patients decades younger quit at five or seven minutes. "I think physiologically he is considerably younger than his chronologic age based on his cardiovascular fitness," Eckstein said in an interview Thursday. "I got a call from the cardiologist who said that he had not seen anyone that age exercise for that long in a long time."
How much focus will Obama-loving media give this report? Will age be a factor in this election, or will Americans not buy into the press's hysteria?

The MSM will cover it because they have to. But I wouldn't be surprised to see them use it as a segue to Obama's youth and athleticism; managing to mention that GQ listed him in their "25 fittest people in America" list. (just to provide "balanced coverage" you know).

May 23, 2008 - 10:01 ET by Prester JohnA couple of days late but I must give credit when to the Washington Post. Two days ago on the front page it actually ran a relatively positive report on the Iraqi security forces moving in to Sadr City:
Iraqi Troops Welcomed In Sadr City
BAGHDAD, May 21 -- Iraqi soldiers moved unhindered through Baghdad's vast Sadr City district on Wednesday as Shiite militiamen who have long controlled the area faded from view and schools and businesses began to reopen after weeks of strife.
The Shiite-led government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is pursuing an increasingly successful effort to contain the militias of his Shiite rivals and to exercise authority over areas where Iraqi forces were once unwelcome. The strategy has won Maliki admiration from Sunni politicians and from U.S. and British officials, who credit him with exerting some of the political will necessary to achieve reconciliation.

Perfect "aborted the case
May 23, 2008 - 13:41 ET by Dan The Man 2Perfect "aborted the case for war against Iraq a long time ago...and have always focused on the neglected child in Afghanistan" because aborting a child is neglecting parental duties and in fact you cant be a parent of an aboted child. The child in Afghanuistan is not being neglected as if you actually had children you would know each child has different needs. Afghanistan is totally different and furthermore is being taken care of by NATO. My brother is there at the moment fighting the good fight. If you really cared you would do more research, but knowing your nature I guess not.

Thanks for the correction...
May 23, 2008 - 14:47 ET by SyriusDan,
You were so correct, I made the mistake of saying aborted child when I should have said fetus and even that is a poor analogy to the bad analogy of yours. I should have realized it was a bad analogy from the beginning when you brought it up. How about this...I guess we didn't realize the Iraq war was another child on the way. It's too bad it was conceived in another mother...entirely unrelated to the first since the test tube was mixed up...and Bush is bound to say it's not his baby but the Democrats.(sarc on)
As for your brother and my family members and friends, I wish them only the best and a safe return from the good fight.

PS When should I stop going home to my kids since you said I don't have any?
When they leave the coup.
May 23, 2008 - 15:21 ET by Dan The Man 2When they leave the coup. We should also not leave Iraq until the kids have jobs and able to support themselves. Hell Germany and Japan and Korea have not flown the coup yet. Iraq is a good thing in a military strategic view of the world. Remember teh Turkey flap and Pakistan is none too happy about us having flyover and staging priviliges. Iraq is a good base of operations in that part of teh world. We have Iran between a rock and a hard place, two fronts.

You rule libs -- you control education, media, politics, judiciary -- and you are the ones I hold responsible for the complete mess you have made of things. It's you! It's you! It's you! -- got it?
very true okiehawk
May 23, 2008 - 15:20 ET by Dee BunkIraq would be going much better if they wouldn't have given so much encouragement to the terrorists also.
Gas prices would be better if we had built some refineries and drilled here (refineries being the bigger problem). The dems also block any new Nuclear power that could also have an impact. Then you add in the exorbitant taxes and the ethanol debacle and it's no wonder. In the short time that Republicans had total control of congress, Dems had enough to filibuster and a media to demonize and put fear into Republicans who didn't go their way.
Gas prices were going up no matter what due to increased demand from India and China. No President or Congress can do anything about that. They could have been mitigated some by letting businesses do things to take care of their increased demand but the Dems blocked them at every step. Now they want to demonize them for their profits which don't even equal the profits that the Government already makes from them.
Here we go again Syrius

Critic Who Questioned Shooting of Palestinian Boy Vindicated by French Court
By Eva Cahen
CNSNews.com Correspondent
May 23, 2008
Highlights -- A Paris appeals court has overturned the libel verdict against a French media critic who claimed that French state television aired a fraudulent news report showing the alleged shooting of a Palestinian boy by Israeli soldiers in 2000.
Philippe Karsenty, who was found guilty of libel in 2006 for claiming that French TV faked the footage, hailed Thursday's court ruling as a significant victory.
France 2's images of 12-year-old Mohammed al-Dura, allegedly shot during a gun battle between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian gunmen at Gaza's Netzarim junction, became a symbol of the second Palestinian intifada (uprising).
The network has denied the footage was fraudulent and has defended its correspondent, Charles Enderlin, who was not present during the alleged incident but provided commentary over the images shot by his Palestinian cameraman.
Speaking after the court decision, he (Karsenty) called the outcome "the victory of truth over lies. It's the victory of honesty over intellectual dishonesty. It's the victory of French justice over corporatism and the media mafia."
