For general debate and discussion. Possible talking point: England makes a HUGE right turn:

Boris Johnson, the floppy-haired media celebrity and Conservative member of Parliament who transformed himself from a shambling, amusing-aphorism-uttering figure of fun into a plausible political force, was elected mayor of London on Friday...With final votes in for the 159 local councils in which seats were being contested, Labor lost 331 seats overall, and the Conservative opposition gained 256. The Labor Party took an estimated 24 percent of the overall vote, placing it a woeful third behind the Conservatives, with 44 percent, and the Liberal Democrats, with 25 percent.

This is a HUGE win for the Conservatives in the UK. Does this have any portent for our elections in November? Before you answer, consider what the Tory victory in 1979 under Margaret Thatcher's leadership did for Ronald Reagan the following year.

I think it could be good for

I think it could be good for us on this side of the pond; however, to be honest, I believe the issue of true import is that conservative governments have been elected across Europe. THAT is the issue that will affect the globe in the years to come. People across the planet are beginning to speak out against nanny-state politics and liberal tendencies. Perhaps the tide is beginning to turn?

People across the planet

People across the planet are beginning to speak
out against nanny-state politics and liberal tendencies.

At risk of being accused of "playing the race card" I think it bears considering that uncontrolled immigration, especially of not-willing-to-assimilate Muslims, may be one of the liberal policies that the tide is beginning to turn against.

In the interests of full

In the interests of full disclosure, it is precisely this policy I was referencing. I'm glad someone else picked up on it.

And speaking of immigration,

And speaking of immigration, Michelle Malkin has a roundup of May Day's "Open Borders" demonstrations in several cities; complete with T-shirts that say "They can't deport us all", Mexican flags flying over US flags, and one Eve Ensler wannabe with a sign that says "My immigrant vagina is angry!" (I kid you not).

She most likely is angry

She most likely is angry because she is an empty vessel mb...if you get my drift...

For the cute logo that says we can't kick them all out...well we could if we really wanted too.

Any conservative, real conservative could win this election on this issue, and this issue alone, on both sides of the aisle if there was such a thing running...after-all this all is the same as defending this country and the WOT combined.

Throw in oil dependency within...SC appt. Judges...we would have it made.

I DID IT, I DID IT, I DID IT

I just came in the door from early voting at the high school next door. I VOTED FOR HILLARY. If you would have asked me 3 months ago if I would have voted for her I may have said some choice words. I am proud to help Operation Chaos along. My main motive for voting in the Dem primary was to vote against our sitting Lt Gov. that is running for governor, Beverly Perdue.  She is a ________ fill in the blank yourselves my NC friends.

I am going to the Strawberry Festival in town in a bit and let the world know. I hope that Perdue is there, she is from the area, because if I am near her I am going to let her know. It is not Christian to hate someone. I don't think that despising is the same as hate.

Wow, Rick

You mindless bot.

The Supreme Commander would be proud of you.  I wish Operation Chaos had been in effect in Florida (well, we don't have open primaries, so it would have been a hassle)....not that the dem vote in Florida counted anyway, ha!

Enjoy some of those strawberries for me.  I am missing the Ft. Lauderdale Air & Sea Show this weekend....cancelled after twelve marvelous years.  Oh what fun I am missing today.

David Gregory, do you know which damn network you lie for? ~ Uncle Jimbo, @Blackfive

I am allergic to

I am allergic to strawberries. I am going mostly because one of my friends and her group are singing. The festival is not a big thing. The town has only about 900 people. It is a fund raiser for the fire department and the rescue squad. They bring in Pedro which is the rescue chopper for MCAS Cherry Point. That is about the biggest attraction and for the folks of the town and the surrounding area to celebrate something.  Because the NC primary is Tuesday I look for a lot of polticians to be there. They do have strawberries. There are numerous farms around here. In 2 weeks they'll have the Blueberry Festival in Bridgeton, a town of about 300. Later to come is the Shad (hickory shad) festival, the Collard Festival, the Watermelon Festival, the NC Seafood Festival-there is something going on about each weekend through October when the biggie comes-the Mum Fest where 10s of thousands turn out in New Bern. Small towns Americana.

I was watching the race from Richmond last night and they were showing the Blue Angels. I am fortunate living here. Cherry Point's air show is June 6-8. New River's is today and tomorrow. (Next to Camp Lejuene) Seymour Johnson cancelled theirs also.

I used to work in a pharmacy that was located smack dab in the middle of the collard festival. I could step out the back door and walk three feet to get a bowl of collards, lol. Caught Travis Tritt at last year's Watermelon Festival.

Just hope it isn't too late

for Europe to turn things around. What is the old adage about; It's hard to remember when you are up to your *** in alligators, that the original intent was to drain the swamp. For decades Europe overooked the obvious problems in an effort to having their open border policies, the European Union, one money, etc and welcomed all those immigrants in while providing numerous social programs for them as well as their own citizens. Eventually the train runs out of track in every Socialist society. Europe may be waking up meanwhile millions of Americans dream of this very same utopia for themselves as we have been sliding towards this same end for decades.

I think the Brits are as fed up w/libs as we are

So I hope the latest news from London bodes well for us in November.

And here's another interesting bit from England...illegal immigrants are leaving because they're fed up with the cold and the crummy National Health Service.  Bawahahah.

Hmmmm....can I buy a clue for $100, Alex?

David Gregory, do you know which damn network you lie for? ~ Uncle Jimbo, @Blackfive

Blonde

I don't know how the Brits being fed up with libs can help us in November when we have a Communist, a Socialist and a Democrat running for President.

Well, jeff

I'm voting for the democrat....I'm looking out for the best interests of my pockets.  Hillary's already said she'll raise my taxes, and guess what, I actually believe that statement of hers.

My point above, though, was if we DENY illegals health care (hell, the Brits are denying their own citizens as well)....perhaps that little sordid mess will begin to right itself.

David Gregory, do you know which damn network you lie for? ~ Uncle Jimbo, @Blackfive

Blonde

I agree with you on the illegal immigration point. For years we have been sold out by our politicians.

I won't vote for the Democrat because, well, he is a democrat.

then you'll vote for the

then you'll vote for the communist or socialist?

i am the quixotic botg and i approved this message”

Not a chance

I only vote for conservatives.....and none of the three stooges in this election fit the bill.

so by default

you support the comminist

i am the quixotic botg and i approved this message”

I support none of the three

If America elects a modern day Jimmy Carter, so be it. It gets what it deserves. No, I don't fancy 4 years with any of the three as President. However, I refuse to support the girly man Republican party by voting for their democrat candidate. McPain has been an enemy to conservatives for years and years.

After all, 4 years of Carter cleared the way for 8 under Reagan. Maybe when enough people will tire of sacrificing their principles to elect the "least worst" option, the Republican party will return to being a conservative organization and will regain my support. By the way, I will vote for conservative candidates in this election, as always.

You gotta do the math

If you don't vote for McCain (you can hold your nose if you wish) then you are voting for the other contender. The communist or the socialist will win the dim nomination. That is the math.  If you don't vote you have automatically voted for Obama/Hillary. If McCain wins it will be a tough presidency no matter what his politics. Maybe he will pick a conservative running mate. Maybe he will see the light who knows. But with a dim congress it will be hard to advance any conservative agenda. It will be four years of veto and more veto. But maybe it will stem the tide especially if the pres gets to pick a supreme or two. It took almost 50 years to get the court at least to a semblance of balance (you can tell because the liberals continually attack the supreme court now when it used to be in their pocket). Sometimes I destructively think that maybe a dim prez with a dim congress would be so bad (think Jimmy Carter) that it would be good in the long run. Then I come to my senses and see so much damage could be done that couldn't be undone very easily. So hold your nose and vote.

Ahusser

What makes you think McPain would choose a conservative Supreme? I have no confidence that there is a conservative drop of blood in his body. Sorry, I stand by my principles on this one. Maybe the Baptists will let us have Romney in 2012 to straighten out the mess from either the Commie, Socialist or Democrat.

What makes you think McPain

What makes you think McPain would choose a conservative Supreme?

He might not, but it's at least possible (unlike any Obama or Hillary administration).

“There are no easy answers' but there are simple answers. We must have the courage to do what we know is morally right.” - Ronald Reagan (1964 Republican Convention)

I'm with you Jeff. I've

I'm with you Jeff.

I've posted my feelings about all of this endlessly...I also heard McCain at the Denver Town Hall meeting, it was pathetic....I am sick of his pandering to the so-called moderates on the left.

...and anyone who thinks any so-called conservative Judge McCain may pick will get through is wrong, it will be stopped, we thought it was bad lately...it will be much worse with 21-22 repub Senate seats up for grabs, the dems will have close to 60 IMO before this gets done.

I will vote, I always do, but not McCain...he would have to pick a real conservative as VP for me to even contemplate it.

"Never murder your opponent when he is committing suicide." ~ W. Churchill

"What makes you think

"What makes you think McPain would choose a conservative Supreme? I have
no confidence that there is a conservative drop of blood in his body.

His record perhaps. At any rate, he may or he may not. But one thing is 100% for sure: Neither democrat candidate will choose a conservative supreme. Plus, if you have no confidence that there is a conservative drop in his body, then you really haven't been paying attention to anything more than the anti-McCain talking points. I mean, 2 of the candidates are promising to bring nationalized health care to this country for one, and neither of those are McCain. So much for there being no difference between the candidates.

Furthermore, just because one has "principles" doesn't mean one should commit suicide because of them. That's why God gave us brains. Pacifists have priniciples too, until it's their life on the line. The smart ones pick up the gun and defend themselves. The principled ones get read about in the obituaries.

And by the way, how do your prinicples square with allowing the relaxing of current abortion laws if Hillary or Obama(who is ok with partial birth abortion) get in the White House, which will ultimately result in an increase in abortions? Having principles isn't a free pass to analyze situations like a child would.

Funny how you're okay with Romney though, a guy who isn't exactly Reagan reincarnated. And what makes you think there will be any straightening out of the mess caused by a socialist/marxist democrat president that appoints 2 or more marxist/ socialist supremes to the court? Jeez, it's 30 years later and we're still paying for Carter.Talk about a risky gamble, lol. I'm guessing they know you by name at casinos throughout Vegas, because if you're willing to make THAT bet, you'll bet on anything.

Frankly, this is yet ANOTHER reason why some folks shouldn't be allowed to vote. I mean, we don't allow children under 18 to vote, so why not develop a method to keep children over 18 from voting, because anyone who believes that putting this country into the crapper for 4 years will magically generate the next Ronald Reagan who will then magically undo all the damage done from the previous 4 years clearly lacks the proper mental facilities to decide who the leaders of this country should be.

And lest you get the wrong idea, I'm no big fan of McCain to be sure, but I'm not a complete fool either.

I'm ckc1227, and I approve of this message.

Right on CKC

Jeff Lebowski still can't do the math. His non-vote is a vote for Obama/Clinton. The lefties didn't even have to convince him to vote for Obama or Clinton. He just will sit home in a principled huff and let the other side win. Good going. And I am very serious about the Supreme Court I think a few more Ginsberg's will do the trick. Of course you are entitled you can write in anyone you want. How about Perot?

Gang of 14?

Ahusser, so you think McPain will appoint conservative judges?? Don't you remember a little something called the Gang of 14 that kept conservative judge nominees from the bench? You people seem to have a short memory.

I wouldn't be so sure

that you're not a fool. You can vote for who you like and hope for the best. McCain/Feingold, McCain/Kennedy, gang of 14 and you want to continue the madness of this movement to the left? Sometimes people have to learn the hard way. Carter was saying basically everything that Osama is saying today. Carter was/is a disaster. But look how many sheeple follow Osama today? When America needs conservative leadership, the Repubs send us McCain?

Abortion? I am personally against it but if someone wants to abort their baby, I believe it is between them and God. So I don't spend a lot of political thought on abortion.

I like Romney because he isn't a lifetime politician. He knows how to make and spend a buck and believe that he is much more conservative than McCain could ever pretend to be...of course, he isn't pretending. Look at what he said about the NC Repub party's ads against Revrum Wright.

Yes, I am willing to let what will happen take place because a McPain presidency is Bill Clinton all over again. It will be a tough 4 years but America will again learn its lessons once again about liberal leadership.

As for my voting preferences and mental faculties (you incorrectly used the word "facilities," Einstein), you can kiss my a**. I have a right to vote and a right not to vote. I prefer not to be a sheep led to the slaughter like you. So vote for McPain and then be all over the blogs bitching when he appoints Arlen Specter, Janet Reno or someone of that ilk to the Supreme Court.

I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR A LIBERAL AND YOU CANNOT MAKE ME!

Sad to see European

Sad to see European countries like UK, Germany, France, and italy (not to mention the entire eastern bloc) leaning right, and the USA is on the precipice of electing a socialist douchebag like Obama.

Speaking of douchebags, here's a special story just for NB's resident Muslim apologist. Remember, only a tiny portion of Muslims are the bloodthirsty kind. Nothing like this ever needs to be done, and an entire country of nutjobs is improbable, right?

Actually, Rog, that last

Actually, Rog, that last story is about a death-sentence for those who put the Christian "blasphemer" to death. The headline has it wrong. And this sentence is renewing calls to make "blasphemy," as defined by Muslims, a crime. So future Muslim enforcers won't have to worry about that pesky civil law.

Same destination, just a slightly different route.

While a conservative turn is

While a conservative turn is always good news, we can be pretty sure that four - eight years from now we'll be reading that the UK and/or the other EU countries took a Left turn again. How these countries voters veer from far left to right and back again is beyond me. If they were driving, they'd be pulled over for a suspected DUI.

Jack

I put this subject on he OT late last night with this link...like I said...this makes me smile...big time...I hope it is a clue to what may be to come for the UK in the future...and Jack I was especially wondering what your thoughts are on all of this, but I think you hit the sack by then....

Wish the Brits the best; but this is not much of a harbinger

I am not an expert on British politics; but from my distant spectators seat I am inclined to agree with the observation by CT (above) that British conservative Party of today is weak tea compared to what it was when Margret Thatcher was running things.

What I think would make a significant difference come November would be a major exposé on how the MSM is and has been deliberately misleading the public.

Imus's Radiothon for Childrens Charities this May 8th & 9th

Imus was taken off the air in the middle of his Radiothon for Children's charities last year they couldn't wait one day to fire him. Obama insisted that Imus be fired and that he wouldn't work for him. Obama and many others said that Rev Jeremiah Wright's words should be taken in context and all his many good works in should be considered. Then why wasn't Imus afforded the same considerations? After all he apologized many times, when did Rev J Wright Apologize for GDA? We only hear in context why this GDA is appropriate to tell a whole congregation of people, plus they sold his sermons on DVD so how many more were exposed to these "words" ? This is a double standard to this day Obama has not answered to, how he applies one rule to a Pastor and another to an On Air personality. Barbara Walters asked him on Obama's View appearance but he just dodged the question, when is he going to address and answer Why one should be given special consideration but not the other?

This is a link for information about the Imus' Radiothon for Children Charities and the Imus Radiothon Auction.
