Get this through your head and tell all your buddies, fiscal conservatives will not vote for Huckabee EVER. Even if that means Hillary in 08. You remember what happened to Bush after he raised taxes? Perot then Clinton - Think about it.
I have to agree, my stomach turns more with Huck than with the Democrats, because what's worse, the wolf or the wolf in sheep's clothing? Which is why I say anyone is better than Huckster.
Do these really lame attempts at logic work on people you talk to? I have researched the Huckster, the guy is a scam who has fooled all the suckers who vote on religion only. I will not vote for him. I did not even care about who was going to be nominated until the ultimate sucker candidate pulled ahead in Iowa. Save your lesser of two evils logic to where it actually applies.
Voting against a socialist for another socialist is voting for a socialist. Get it? Good.
No what me and 19 million other people did was vote against Bush raising taxes. This is worse, the Huckster has a record of raising them and being horrendous on tons of conservative issues. If he gets nominated I will not be the one that helped elect Hillary it will be those who voted for the Huckster.
Look if you want to play these games fine, I'll play them but don't be a dumbass about who I voted for. There was no spite vote. I vote for who I am going to vote for based on the research I do. If W. Bush ran again in 08 I would not vote for him after the Amnesty debacle.
I've got reasons "not to like" each and every one of these candidates. I can choose any one of them (except Hunter) and go on the same hatefilled binge as others in this thread.
What I'm seeing here is ALL NEGATIVE POLITICS ALL THE TIME.
Has anybody bothered to say nice things about Romney tonight? No, they're too busy hating his opponent and swearing they'll crown Beelzebub before that damned Christian gets elected.
I can get this at DKos. But they're probably less hypocritical tonight.
If the Huckster was good on the issues like Bush no one cares about his religious faith. But he is not, you want people to vote for him only because he is a Christian. Well guess what? Clinton and Carter were Christians and I don't see these same people endorsing them as a comparison to the Huckster.
Huckabee made this a religious war because he knows he is a fiscal socialist and it is the only way he can sucker all the fundamentalists into voting for him.
But the reality is that a Huckabee nomination will without question split the GOP and the Dems will win - that is a promise.
I agree everyone likes Hunter so why is everyone not nominating him? But if not Hunter why not compromise candidates like Fred or Romney? No the fundamentalists supporting the Huckster will get what they deserve - Hillary in 08.

You are entitled to your sentiment, but you should also be aware that social conservatives will not vote for Rudy (or any other prochoice candidate) ever either and they have been saying it for longer than fiscal conservatives. We are tired of being thrown under the bus after the election. Fiscal conservatives will have to lose the Whitehouse alone if they have nothing but money (i.e., lower taxes) to offer those who believe that the love of money is the root of all evil.
I believe we are seeing an emerging third party in American politics because I believe the powers that be in the Republican Party are working overtime to tank Huckabee's chances and it will backfire on them.

Huckabee is just as socialistic as Hillary and he's against homeschooling (unlike most Christians). Wasn't Jimmy Carter a Christian as well? How did that turn out for the country?
Then where the heck are all the Huck supporters? I see 'em on TV. You'd think there would be at least one or two on the NB going to bat for their candidate, but still not a peep.

I think all Republicans had better pull for whoever the candidate is. For myself, I don't think it will be Huckabee...by the time Super Tuesday rolls around everyone is going to know he's no conservative, except in a Bible-belt evangelical way, which pretty much makes him unelectable. But an individual's personal satisfaction may only result in smugness awaiting the inauguration of Her Royal Clintoness.
I truly don't know what I will do...I thought I could go for Huckabee if he were the candidate; now after having seen and listened to him I don't think I can. I'll just have to pray that it's someone I can support, even if not wholeheartedly.
There are enough independents and Democrats who would vote for him. Rudy is not my first choice but he is the only GOP candidate besides Fred that I have heard Democrats outright say they would vote for.
There is no love of money, there is my love of supporting my family without being robbed by the government! So I take it you have no bills are taxes to pay. Apparently you don't care if you have a job or not. Because hey money doesn't matter only things the president has no power in like abortion.
What is this crap about being thrown under the bus? HELLO! Bush for 8 years! Try voting in my conservative members of Congress. If you think the US is going to become one nation under your religion think again. Our country has freedom of religion and while I will defend your right to practice your beliefs I will also go to war to prevent my indocrination.
Well that is unless you talk to a fundamentalist and it would be he is a baby killing sodomite lover. But to the rest of us sane people his big problem is immigration and allowing illegals to go to school in NYC. But he is good on taxes and the war on terror. That is two things the Huckster is NOT good on.
Rudy didn't "allow" illegals to go to school in NYC - the Supreme Court did . . . in "Plyer vs. Doe" - 1982. Look it up. Get your facts right before you post nonsense. Rudy doesn't have an "illegal problem", not like Huckster or McCain.
"Some of the hardest-working and most productive people in this city are undocumented aliens," Mr. Giuliani said. I agree; the President can't do anything about abortion. Abortion is legal; there will be no going back. Even if the next President names enough SC Justices to overturn Roe v Wade, abortion won't be outlawed; the issue will go back to individual states. And you may be right about Giuliani or Romney attracting some independent voters.
I suspect, though, if abortion was sent back to the states to decide on, abortion would immediately vaporize as a federal level issue. Abortion is not a hot-button issue of mine, but if Roe were overturned, and the issue were sent back to the states, I would not lose a wink of sleep. In fact I would gain some, as federalism would work to ban the procedure in many states.
Exactly right, which is why abortion is not an issue for me for a Presidential qualification. Its not a Judicial issue either, the problem lies with Congress. The courts over stepped its authority with Roe, so its up to Congress to reign it in.
For me, social and fiscal are both important, but fiscal is more. Not because of Cool Arrow's assertion that I am more concern with the dollar over morals. No I am more concerned with an out of control nanny state government that can only be reigned in by fiscal responsibility. Parents are charged with teaching morality to the next generation, not government. Do I want laws that help maintain better morality? Sure...but that is the job of Congress. Besides, morality laws are better suited on a state level anyway.
Hence, I will not vote for Huck in the general, but I can in good faith vote for Rudy. Like I said, anyone is better than Huck, and that includes Hillary. Not that I will vote for her either, but will go third party. Normally I am all about voting party lines, but I just can't with Huck.
I agree. It looks like the Social Conservatives are demanding a split from Conservatism. Gay marriage and Abortion are not issues to them. Only the dollar is praised.
What planet do you people live on? Is the War on Terror, Iraq, Illegal Immigration, the Economy and Taxes not important to you people?
Do you sit around preparing for the invasion of the gays? Who wants gay marriage? Not me or any of the Republican Candidates. Which Republican President wants to make it a law? Did you miss all the states banning it?
We had 8 years of Bush and REALITY CHECK = Abortion is still legal! What part of the President cannot ban abortion do you people not understand?
Do you also want to fight global warming while at the same time complaining about gas prices?
It is like insane people running around shouting with their ears and eyes shut who have no idea what is going on or how the government works.
The Presidency is a powerful bully pulpit. He does lead the country and can lead us away from Abortion (my number one issue). Abortion has killed far more Americans than terrorists, Iraq, Iran, Illegal Immigrants, etc. Over a million a year. For over forty years. You do the math.
I am well aware that we are in for a long fight to save the babies. Thank God the anti-slave people didn't give up in 1776 when their voice wasn't heard, but fought on until slavery was defeated. If fighting the good fight is insanity, color me kookoo pops.
Those who beat their swords into plowshares usually end up plowing for those who didn't. - Ben Franklin
Abortion is your #1 issue? What country do you people live in?
How can the President stop abortion? Has any of Bush's Anti-Abortion Speeches stopped it yet?
Any idea how many people will die if a nuke goes off in a major city? But hey Abortion is your #1 issue.
Reminder, we had Anti-Abortion Bush and a Republican Majority in Congress and Abortion is still legal so tell me what Huckabee is going to do to stop Abortion with a Democratic controlled congress? Like I said insanity.
While trying to stop the killing of babies, you have to be satisfied with baby steps. One President at a time, one law at a time, one vote at a time.
No, but Bush is not the greatest speaker, is he?
No idea, but should I pay more attention to a real and present danger or a hypothetical one?
Maybe Huck can't stop Abortion, should I just give up? Maybe your choice can't stop wasteful government (remember many have run saying they would and it is still wasteful). Maybe you should give up.
Those who beat their swords into plowshares usually end up plowing for those who didn't. - Ben Franklin
Let me tell you what I really think. I don't think I will be standing at the Judgment Seat thinking "I wished I hadn't paid so much taxes." Nor will I be standing there thinking, "I wish those terrorists hadn't killed me." I don't want to be standing there thinking "I wish I had done more to protect the innocent, the orphans, the widows. I wish I had done more finding the lost."
It is not to say that those other issues aren't important in this life. I am against government waste. I do think the war against terrorism is important, we must always stand against evil. But the truth is, when you have innocent blood on your hands, you cannot expect mercy. If we are going to beat the terrorists, it will be by taking a higher road then they. I don't honestly think, as a country we can say they are evil, when we embrace evil ourselves, to the tune of 50,000,000 totally innocent children brutally ripped from the womb and thrown into the trash like garbage.

Yeah, you know I come here for fun and the exchange of ideas. Life is too short to get ugly with people (expecially those who are generally on your side).
Those who beat their swords into plowshares usually end up plowing for those who didn't. - Ben Franklin
I am pro-life and anti-gay marriage. But Congress is the only place that can take care of abortion and the states have systematically ruled against gay marriage. Did everyone miss the last election results? None of the Republican Candidates are pro-baby killing even Rudy, he doesn't personally like it but the law is that it is legal.
Good to have you on the prolife bandwagon. I wrote you a nice response regarding Rudy, but it disappeared when I hit post (and this after Previewing it several times). I won't repeat it, but basically, I find Rudy untenable. My views on gay marraige might surprise you, it will have to wait for another day for me to discuss it, but basically, I don't care what the country does with this. Man did not invent marriage (read Genesis 2), he can no more redefine true marriage than he could redefine Pi as being 3.0000. It's not his to mess with.
I personally think that the the government defining marriage, at all, constitutes a first amendment violation (it is a religious institution, not a civil institution, marriage existed thousands of years before the constitution) and they should stay out of the marriage business altogether. If two men or two women want to live together (in a civil union) and call that a marriage, have at it. It is not, and never will be one in God's eyes. To be fair, there are many heterosexual relationships that are called "marriages" that are not godly also.
The only sticky issue is the right for gay couples to adopt and I have no solution for that. I will admit that some gay couples could do a better job of raising a kid than some straight couples, but that is more an indictment against those bad parents than an endorsement of gay couples raising children. There have been numerous studies that show the healthiest environment for children is a stable monogamous heterosexual family.
Wow, I went longer on this than I should have. Gotta go to work. Bye.
Those who beat their swords into plowshares usually end up plowing for those who didn't. - Ben Franklin
You said you had blood on your hands and I wanted to know how many babies you killed to get that blood on your hands. You said it not me. What about Russia?
Pop, you called me delusional, that is an insult, is it not? When I said that about blood on the hands, I was referring to this country. Not my hands individually, or yours. But we deserve the government we elect and we are ultimately responsible for it. Read the post, it is all about context. I don't live in Russia and the connotation of that comment is clear. Don't even pretend you didn't know it, you purport to be an intelligent person. The fact that Russia has more abortions then us is not something I can affect, I prefer to work in my own garden. I will discuss anything with anyone, but when it turns nasty, I lose interest quickly.
Those who beat their swords into plowshares usually end up plowing for those who didn't. - Ben Franklin
Could you enlighten us on Huckabee's 12 step plan to stop the baby killers? Since you seem convinced he will lead you to victory then I assume he has a plan. I would like to know what this plan is.
Maybe he will tax them so much they will not be able to afford abortions? Or is it to Pardon all the Murders in Federal Prison to make room for the Abortion Doctors? Wait I know he will stay in a Holiday Inn Express.
I don't know his plans, I just know and believe he is anti-abortion.
Mitt Romney is too (now, anyway).
So is Duncan Hunter, but he will be out of the race soon.
I could vote for them.
Ron Paul is pro-life, but I disagree with his terrorism stand, so I won't support him now. If he gets the nomination (yeah, I know!) I will reconsider (I might have to follow all of sarcasmo's links to learn more about him).
The rest of them will have to make do without my vote.
But I want to say that I think they are all pretty good people. I could certainly sit down for a beer with Rudy or Thompson and have a good conversation. I just cannot, in good conscience, vote for them for President.
Those who beat their swords into plowshares usually end up plowing for those who didn't. - Ben Franklin
How do you figure Thompson for not being pro-life? He had a 100% rating during his Senate years and was recently endorsed by National Right-to-Life. Is it the incrementalism of federalism that he proposed that turns you off? Curious as to why Thompson is not on the short list of all the social AND fiscal conservatives out there.

Huckabee made this a religious war because he knows he is a fiscal socialist and it is the only way he can sucker all the fundamentalists into voting for him.
But the reality is that a Huckabee nomination will without question split the GOP and the Dems will win - that is a promise.

January 4, 2008 - 00:39 ET by UnsaneI suspect, though, if abortion was sent back to the states to decide on, abortion would immediately vaporize as a federal level issue. In fact I would gain some, as federalism would work to ban the procedure in many states.

Exactly right, which is why
January 4, 2008 - 03:59 ET by Conservative VoiceExactly right, which is why abortion is not an issue for me for a Presidential qualification.

Nor will I be standing there thinking, "I wish those terrorists hadn't killed me." I don't want to be standing there thinking "I wish I had done more to protect the innocent, the orphans, the widows.

But I want to say that I think they are all pretty good people. I could certainly sit down for a beer with Rudy or Thompson and have a good conversation. I just cannot, in good conscience, vote for them for President.

Ben, How do you figure
January 4, 2008 - 14:54 ET by JoeBobBen,
How do you figure Thompson for not being pro-life? He had a 100% rating during his Senate years and was recently endorsed by National Right-to-Life. Is it the incrementalism of federalism that he proposed that turns you off? Curious as to why Thompson is not on the short list of all the social AND fiscal conservatives out there.
