For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Consumer spending explodes in November...
Consumer spending in the U.S. rose in November by the most in more than two years as incomes grew and shoppers took advantage of early holiday discounts. A bigger-than-forecast 1.1 percent increase in purchases followed a revised 0.4 percent gain in October that was more than previously estimated, the Commerce Department said today in Washington.
Hmmm. Incomes up. Spending up. Where's that bleeping recession we keep hearing about?

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2008, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere . Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.

December 21, 2007 - 11:50 ET by SyriusFascinating comment...
It shows a complex understanding &
knowledge of the issues which are massaged and nuanced in the minds of
the progressive-liberal. You clearly showed in your comment the
difference between the educated progressive-liberal and the simple
mindedness of the right. Nice move! You're making the
conservative right look stupid, extreme, and intolerant. Happy Festivus!

December 21, 2007 - 12:29 ET by Airforce_5_OThe complexities of the liberal mind come down to how asinine it is to be PC on every freaking thing that comes along. The diversity of this nation has show in the modern age we can tolerate cultures, their celebrations and traditions. Most people I talk too and work with who do not celebrate Christmas have no problem with a Merry Christmas being said to them.
It is the small minded minority of secular progressives who find it offensive and, as DFTT so eloquently pointed out, show a great intolerance toward those who do celebrate.
You will support a Muslim celebrating Ramadan but could care less about a Christian. You would shake the hand of an atheist or Wicken but shun a follower of Christ.
No you are the one who has come here and confirmed your ignorance.
Merry Christmas!

Please try to discuss an issue with
intelligence. A Majority needs to have tolerance towards the Minority.
It's not a two way street. If you want the Minority to be subjected to
the Majority's views by force, you've lost the ability to be tolerant.
You've assumed I'm a progressive-liberal. You've assumed I
support a muslim ideology that's bent on destroying other religions.
You've assumed people have 'no problem' with your "Merry Christmas"
blessing. You've assumed I'm shunning Christians. You've
assumed too much.
WWJD?
Wish people "Merry Christmas" as a meaning of goodwill not as a declaration of your faith that you wear on your sleeve.

Tolerance means : the act of allowing something.
It does not mean avoiding an action.
Of course tolerance is a two-way street! Tolerance means a Jew puts up with a Christian's Xmas decorations in the office and the Catholic puts up with the Jew's Menorah on his desk. It does not mean that neither has their symbol so as not to "offend" the other.

December 21, 2007 - 21:48 ET by motherbeltThe fact is, that until liberals corrupted its meaning, tolerance used to mean not taking offense at others' actions that one didn't agree with. Now it has been turned on its head, so that it means not giving offense, and avoiding doing anything with which someone else might not agree. So unless it's something that everyone can agree on, it's a no-go. I don't know how we got to this point, but it stinks.
The Constitution forbids the establishment of a state religion. It also guarantees the free exercise of one's religious beliefs. It does not say "as long as no one is offended by it." There is no guarantee of freedom from offense in the Constitution. So I say again:
TOLERATE CHRISTMAS!

Tolerance of the “minority” here is the secular progressive movement. This is the people who are intolerant to the Majority Christian cause. They whine “ No nativities at Christmas on Government Property” or “No religious symbols on government property at all. Separation of Church and State.” These are the people who get made when you tell them “Merry Christmas. The hate anything dealing with religion all together. EVERYTHING!
They are the ACLU. They are the Far left kook jobs who teach in schools that “religion is for the weak minded. They are the people who can’t even stand a moment of silence in the morning for school kids because they are afraid THEY WILL PRAY!!!!!
This is the time of year that Christians celebrate the birth of Christ. Don’t belittle it with “Happy Holidays because I don’t want to offend you.”
This is the time of the year Jews celebrate Hanukah so don’t belittle it. If you are Jewish I will not get offended with “Happy Hanukah!” I will say it right back. Going around on eggshells being afraid you offend someone is asinine! My goodness in my job if I had to do that I would be hiding under my desk and the good Lord knows you can’t get anymore diverse than the military.
I bet you are the kind of person who would kick a boy scout out of the national forest of this nation because “They offend a minority group” such as gays.

The blathering of idiots does not help in presenting a
conservative viewpoint. People stop listening when they start yelling.
My first comment was to point out how stupid the conservatives would
look if left to a few idiots with simpleminded viewpoints. Use your
intelligence to work through these comments and you'll see the light of
understanding and knowledge. Present yourself as an intelligent person
and people will listen. If you can't stop yourself from yelling and
flaming others with simpleminded BS you've lost the arguement. Most of
the comments have been about your right (given to you by this country's
founding fathers) as a christian to wish non-believers a christmas
greeting. Its the venom in the approach that speaks of intolerance.
There seems to be an inability to understand and reason why some
comments could be construed as offensive. Your words veil intolerance
and hatred.

I also don't see much coverage of him in the news. Is this just a case of the MSM not doing anything with him because he's considered an enemy to their agenda?? Also if he is to win the GOP what states are areas that he would win.

DES MOINES — Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson earned the endorsement of Iowa conservative Bill Salier today.
Salier, a farmer from Nora Springs who ran for the U.S. Senate in 2002, had been serving as the state chairman for Tom Tancredo’s campaign. Tancredo dropped out of the presidential race Thursday.
“I am honored to endorse Sen. Fred Thompson for president,” Salier said in a statement. “Sen. Thompson has been a consistently strong advocate in securing our borders and enforcing the rule of law. He has the leadership and experience we need guiding this nation and serving the people of Iowa.” Thompson earned the endorsement of U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Kiron, earlier this week. He said he was pleased to earn Salier’s backing.

Gee Popular Tech....
December 22, 2007 - 12:16 ET by JayTeeGee, Popular Tech, If you wann run an Anti huckabee Website, go Create one. Let's pick a Subject on Hickabee......Taxes. One of your posts, or maybe 5 of the 32 posts...in any Event....
Huckabee repealed a temporary State Tax subsidy. Arkansas needed it, and passed it as a Temp increase, and then later the govenor (Huck) repealed it after it wasn't needed anymore. That's a Fiscal Conservative.
Also, the now famous Quote on "Huckabee increased Ark. taxes 47%" during his Governorship....means, Over 11 years an average of 5%, Where AS......the REST of the STATES during this same Time period (11 yrs) did an average of 98% increases in State Taxes.
POINT......you can manipulate figures to represent what ever you want...when it's TOO BAD to BE TRUE.......It's probably NOT 100% True.
I don't like Huckabee's record on Immigration, but neither do I like Bush's or Congress's, but all politicians respond to the VOTES, and I'm sure Huck can change his views based upon the Majority of voters.
Huck was a Gov. in a poor state with BAD roads and a Lousy education system....and he only did 50 % Tax increases in 11 years ? Well, he ain't all that bad Fiscally speaking....if you look a little deeper.
Personally, I would prefet Duncan....but he's not bing attacked right now by MSM and Company.
