For discussions involving the day in sports. Here are some of today's games that bear watching, and could produce surprises:
LSU at Kentucky. The Tigers squeaked by the Gators last week, and could be ripe for a letdown after such an emotional win.
Oregon State at Cal. I've been told that Cal QB Nate Longshore's injury is much more serious than being reported.
Missouri at Oklahoma. I think the Sooners are overrated, and the Tigers are serious. Even without injured RB Tony Temple, Mizzu can win this game.
Wisconsin at Penn State. Wisconsin has not looked good recently, and the Lions play well at home.
Auburn at Arkansas. Razorbacks are looking to right their disappointing season at home. This could be one of the more entertaining games of the day.
*****Update: Kentucky beats LSU; Penn State beats Wisconsin. Who ever's doing this open thread is looking pretty good...again!!! :-)

No predictions from me today. Not after last week.
October 13, 2007 - 09:46 ET by Dave RI just hope that Georgia (who somehow managed to stay in the top 25) can beat Vanderbuilt, and that Tech can beat Miami.
Wouldn't mind Arizona beating USC, either, but that would be pushing it.

October 13, 2007 - 10:01 ET by ricklailThere should be no problem with your Dawgs over Vandy. Same for Tech. You saw how my Heels handled them last week.
Hate to say this but Cal is going down Noel.
I am going out a limb here but I predict Canetucky to beat LSU in a close one.
I am hoping my Heels can stick it to SC. You know we are the real Carolina.
Got to go. I have to take the wife, daughter and granddaughter (1 year old on Oct 31.) to the Mumfest in New Bern.

October 13, 2007 - 10:46 ET by dervishLSU was humbled last week, even if they did win. They're going to take that out on Kentucky this week. I guess the point spread to be at least 2 TDs. And as much as it pains me to admit it, for I congenitally despise Spurrier, SC is for real this year; the Heels are in trouble today.

On the Notre Dame blurb ( I just caught the tail end of it) was shown how the "Fighting Irish" was fighting the injustice of contoversial "immigration" and how wonderful the diversity and inclusion of the Hispanic community has added to Notre Dame etc. No where in this little piece of propaganda was the term illegal immigration used. I don't think normal immigration is controversial only illegal immigration. A little leftist propaganda with the sin of omission.

October 13, 2007 - 17:47 ET by ThisnThatMaybe it's just me, but watching baseball teams play 8:00pm start-time games in windy, 50-degree temperatures seems a bit absurd. This game could have been scheduled for this afternoon, and while a bit chilly, certainly nothing like tonight.
The World Series is going to be cold. Very cold.

October 13, 2007 - 18:15 ET by ahusserI think it is time to cut the number of games played in the major leagues by 10-15 games. I know this is blasphemy and would be hard on stats (for a while) but I would like to see the World Series closer to September than November.

October 13, 2007 - 23:24 ET by Del DolemonteActually, the Red Sox play in windy, 50-degree temperatures for the first month of their regular season at home. They're used to it.
I've even shivered thru more than one game at Fenway in April where the temps were in the upper 40s! For those early-season games, it's actually warmer to sit in the bleachers, as they get the most sun.

October 14, 2007 - 11:38 ET by dervishAlong the lines of this, in the first quarter of the game, Oklahoma threw a short pass. The receiver was immediately tackled (as in laid out horizontal-like) but fell on the tackler, rolled off, got up, and ran into the end zone as if he hadn't really been tackled. A touchdown was awarded, but after ten minutes or so of analysis, he was ruled down (and the Okies scored anyway).

As usual
October 13, 2007 - 13:43 ET by ricklailGot back earlier than first thought. My wife took her car and I went in my truck. She was going to tour the gardens at Tryon Palace.
Same as usual. Crowds, food vendors, crowds, craft vendors, crowds, rides for the kids, crowds, music, crowds, boat and car shows, crowds. That is my big hang up- the crowds. It draws huge crowds to the downtown area of New Bern for the 2 day event. You know what is weird. The lack of mums.
If you get time tommorrow go to www.newbernsj.com and look at the pictures. That will give you an idea of the CROWD.
My daughter is in from Pensacola. She was talking about a law that made it illegal for a cop to sit and clock speeders. They had to clock them on the move. What gives?
Well back to football. DOOK is getting clobered so that helps to make my day.
If you look back last week, SC didn't beat KY with offense. They did it with defense. The Heels are young and with a new coach. Anything that they do this year is gravy.

No, her party was at a restaurant in town. She and her friends were in one room, and the adults were in another actually having more fun than the kids. Of course, until Cal's backup QB decided to try to run for the winning TD rather than throwing the ball out of bounds setting up a game-tying field goal that would have sent it into OT!

The University of South Florida had a big day. I had a big day dressing up my daughter in a her little USF cheerleader outfit and taking her out and about to Augusta and the James Brown Civic Center for the Christmas in the South show. She got many compliments. I know, this is a useless comment but I cannot help myself. I just came from a party!
