Funniest "It's Global Warming's Fault" comment
October 7, 2007 - 11:05 ET by RJYesterday in Manchester, CT, a Cross Country race was suspended because higher than usual temperatures (High 80s) were causing runners to collapse with heat exhaustion.
The Fire Chief said (I kid you not) "What we're dealing with is environmental injuries." :^)
Environmental Injuries?

October 7, 2007 - 11:15 ET by RJI knew you guys down south and out west would get a chuckle out of that, just like we do when you complain of being cold when it gets below 50 or so.
But the main point, as you saw, is the absolute, ridiculous nonsense that the gullible are being fed today about "global warming."

October 8, 2007 - 06:56 ET by NonanonSo are runners not smart enough to take responsibility for their health and know when to stop if the weather is too hot? Seems there is a glitch developing in their receiving education benefits due them because of a one day discrepancy. I don't think the problem has really anything to do with the Kerry controversy ... But the higher-ups in the Pentagon had better check into this and get these troops whatever is due to them. Some are speculating if this was a "cost-cutting" maneuver ... and it had better be investigated.

Columbus day -- time to protest
October 7, 2007 - 11:40 ET by ThisnThatHere we go again. I love how no other 15th or 16th century event is ever protested. Just Columbus Day, and they always treat it as an invasion. How about the Aztecs? The Spanish conquered the Aztecs in the early 1500's, but I don't see any protests of that. And who's to say that was a bad thing? One of the prominant activities of the Aztec "civilization" was human sacrifice. And the Aztecs themselves rose to power after they conquered another race.
But back to the protests in Denver. Once again, University professors are leading this. What would you expect in this day and age?

October 7, 2007 - 12:29 ET by MikeBTnT, what happened was a technologically backward society clashed with a technologically advanced society, and the backward society lost. Period. If the roles had been reversed, if the Indians had discovered steel and manufacturing and shipbuilding, etc., then had landed on a backward Europe, the Indians would have done exactly the same to the Europeans that the Europeans did to the Indians.
The claim that the whites "stole" the Indians' land is so much BS. The Indians didn't own land. They had areas where they hunted. When they hunted out an area and they started getting hungry, they would pack up their belongings and move to another area. If that area was occupied, a war ensued and the vanquished moved on, or were wiped out.

Two "old men" pitching today in big games
October 7, 2007 - 12:15 ET by RJBoth have huge competitives streaks, but of the two, I think Shilling has the best chance of winning. He's made an effort to reinvent himself by adding to his arsenel of pitches and by using guile.
Clemens, on the other hand, still carries his youthful arrogance and cockiness, and will try to blow pitches by batters at inappropriate times.
Obviously, I'm prejudiced, but I didn't like Clemens when he was a Red Sox, either. Yeah, he won games, but he was also disruptive in the clubhouse....and I think that cost games. Down in Yankeeville, everyone has big egos and his didn't stand out. :^)

Shilling even seems to be getting stronger, Del
October 7, 2007 - 17:28 ET by RJOf course, the game ain't over 'til it's over, but his performance is what I was talking about. As you know, he used to throw fastballs in the high 90s, but instead of trying to play that young man's game, he became a different pitcher.
After this, it'll be interesting to see if Clemens tries to blow the opposition away tonight.
As for Manny and Big Papi, this is what I was talking about a few weeks ago, when someone (ahem, Noel) said I was being ridiculous in ascribing part of the Red Sox problems to Manny being out. Together, they're much more than their individual parts.
Sox in Control
October 7, 2007 - 18:08 ET by Del DolemonteThey got some more runs! 7 runs in the top of the 8th.

Manny came back at exactly the right time.

Moral foundations
October 7, 2007 - 12:21 ET by ThisnThatLiberals are out to destroy the moral foundations of our society. I have listened to them talk, and they believe that anything that smaks of discipline inhibits their "free spirit". Therefore, Church, dresscodes, patriotism, certain phrases and rituals (like the Pledge of Allegience), marriage, abstinance, -- all of these are too restrictive. The only way to know for sure is to experiment, and then we can form our individual conclusions, and live life without encombersome restrictions.
But, liberals want society to protect us from falling and scraping our knees as we "experiment". Therefore, we shan't deprive anyone of "help". Therefore, they need our money to pay for everything. And it doesn't matter if someone is cheating -- better to let them get away with it (cheating) because otherwise we may accidently deprive someone of his true rights. So, just stand back and let things be -- everyone, at some time, will always come to the right decision.
And by the way, this "freedom" must not be interfeered with. Therefore, they will impose "rules" to keep that freedom in place. You will not complain; you will not discriminate (based upon their definitions, of course); and you will not show any disatisfaction with the outcomes or progress of the societal experiments. If you do, then you will be punished, because you are the bad, myopic person with no personality, no brains, no insight -- you are simply the robot that responds to all those old, bad pre-programmed moral guideposts that are outdated and not in tune with the experimental approach.

October 7, 2007 - 13:59 ET by motherbeltYou are dead on, TnT, with the lack of discipline. It's "moral relativism"....what's "right" for me may not be "right" for you. We all get to decide on our own moral code, and as long as we live up to that, we are fine and good. There's another name for it....rationalization. One can always find a way to "rationalize" a decision, even if it's a little gray and shady.
I remember my 16-year old son telling me he was mature enough to "know what was best" for him. I responded by observing that the thing he "knew was best" was always, miraculously, that which he wanted. Amazing, huh?
So "well, it's right for me" is supposed to put an end to any discussion of right and wrong. You are entitled to your own standard, and I have mine. Live and let live.
Liberals & the Losing Side
October 7, 2007 - 12:31 ET by BlondeI think alot of it has to do with the sense of "entitlement" we've fostered as part & parcel of our national policies since the 60's.
Safety nets have been spun wider and wider. Look at Katrina...what a fiasco! Why on earth should I have to pay the outlandish windstorm premiums I do if people in New Orleans are too stupid to evacuate? It's absurd. Not to mention the taxes I paid to fund that public bailout of stupidity as well.
Education has been taken over by people who think the playing field should be level for all players...Hence there's no more trophy for winning first place, all "participants" get a ribbon. Political Correctness has run amok....can't offend anyone. (Why the hell not, by the way?)
Work hard & you'll get ahead as the American ethos has been replaced by whine enough and some politician will pander to your NEEDs.
One of the most flaming socialists I've ever met came from a patrician background. She barely worked her entire adult life (supported by a string of husbands & rich men), yet thought everyone was entitled to everything, regardless of their efforts. It was so pathetic I finally had to give up on this friendship...after 20 years, too. It was sad.
Oh, I guess I don't really KNOW what makes liberals think the way they do....maybe it's some sort of Kumbaya gene in their DNA.

Tax the hell out of the rich folks because I don't have a job or the one I have only pays minimum wages (I dropped out of high school and lived with my parents until they died and I had to get out on my own, finally) and I can't afford to pay any taxes, in fact I get a fat check at tax time just for breathing and not contributing any money to the running of the country. As long as you keep at least "promising" me that the government will take care of me from cradle to grave I will keep voting for you, cuz you are my friend and you understand me and my problems and most of all you CARE. Im just a poor mistreated underpriviledged soul that came from a dysfunctional family and being a failure and born loser is not my fault. The fire is and has been going for weeks and snow is coming anytime now.

The NY Times has a special
October 7, 2007 - 13:34 ET by motherbeltThe NY Times has a special Sunday "double-tap" of venom for Clarence Thomas today. (For those who don't know, that's an execution-style shooting where two shots are fired in rapid succession.)
Frank Rich and Maureen Dowd both take their potshots at Thomas. The funny thing is, they both bring up Anita Hill, and yet both accuse Thomas of not getting over it.
Rich is also offended that CBS didn't allow Anita Hill equal time to balance the "60 Minutes" piece on Thomas. He says:
Mr. Kroft told me that there were no preconditions placed on him by either Mr. Thomas or his publisher. "Our story wasn't about Anita Hill," he said. "Our story was about Clarence Thomas."
How DARE they! Don't they know every time Thomas shows up on TV, Hill should have equal time??
MoDo's column is an imaginary one by Thomas titled "I Did Do It." In her usual snarky style, manages to bring up both Anita Hill, AND the 2000 election. She puts this into Justice Thomas's mouth:
I had to repay The Man for putting me on the court even though I was neither qualified nor honest.
So I voted to shut down the vote-counting in Florida by A. — oh, I’ll just say it: Al — because if he’d kept going he might have won. I helped swing the court in case No. 00-949, Bush v. Gore, to narrowly achieve the Bush restoration. [ ]...
Al Gore’s true claims didn’t matter in that standoff any more than Anita Hill’s true claims did during my confirmation.
Click on the link above and read them both, if your stomach is strong enough.
Rich and Dowd ... Two ships

I suppose they both still believe the Duke Lacross players are guilty.

October 7, 2007 - 15:06 ET by motherbeltOr maybe in the fog, the two ships cruising along will find each other??
If Anita Hill is "entitled" to "equal time" every time Thomas is on TV, why isn't the NYT required to print a pro-Thomas opinion column when they print a critical one? And jeez, not one but two!
Hi mb... I heard Rich
October 7, 2007 - 13:46 ET by bigtimerHi mb...
I heard Rich this morning on CNN with his usual leftist butt-kissin' blather...and I do not want to read Dowd yet today....I am in a pretty good mood if ya know what I mean...lol.
Btw...Another thing I do not miss is hearing/seeing them both on Imus.I suppose all these leftists will be back on butt-kissing him again and vice versa if he gets a simulcast show on Fox or such.
Oh such is life....
Clarence Thomas is a man...one helluva a man.
Dowd and Rich are creatures just doing the devil's work IMO...two of many.

Edwards is such a loser
October 7, 2007 - 13:58 ET by ThisnThat"I am not for maintaining combat troops inside Iraq for a lot of reasons," the Democratic presidential hopeful told NBC's Tim Russert on Sunday. "I think number one, they'll have a target on their forehead while they're there. Number two, it continues the impression that America is occupying Iraq."
#2: Newsflash for Edwards. Whose causing this perception, dumbass? Could it be you and your lying buddies in Congress, Moveon, the MSM? Huh? Why don't you do something to clear up this perception and start doing something useful for the country? Like maybe resign, or move.

October 7, 2007 - 14:04 ET by bigtimerI sure wished the Plame/Wilson lawsuit would of been a go...
It would of been so delicious in soooo many ways.
As Novak says towards the end...especially to the other msm columnists ect...we all know what hypocrites they are.
Proof once again that Joe Blow Wilson and partner are nothing but a liars, good old Fitz still should have his license revoked as far as I am concerned...and Armitage still remains unknown to the public basically.
BT, we all know that was
October 7, 2007 - 19:12 ET by bassndudeBT, we all know that was nothing but a bluff. They thought they had Scooter on something more than they could scrape up. Wilson just thought he could extort a little more press time, sympthy or money from the goverment is all that was. It blew up in his face. But it would have been a great law suit to see play out in public.
Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!
