For general discussion and debate about any subject you'd like including, but not limited to, today's football schedule.
For instance, I think Florida bounces back from last week's debacle to top #1 LSU, unranked Tennessee upsets #12 Georgia, Texas upsets overranked Oklahoma, and Nebraska upsets overranked Missouri.
Of course, the biggest shocker could be Illinois over Wisconsin.
P.S. If you want to discuss other subjects -- like proof yesterday that all this recession talk is NONSENSE, or anything political -- please do, and don't let all these football kooks intimidate you!
*****Update: Bye bye Badgers!!!
*****Update II: Bye bye Bulldogs!!!
*****Update III: Tata Trojans, if Florida beats LSU, the Bears are #1!!!

October 6, 2007 - 11:55 ET by general companyAwsome game last night, just had that feeling. I was in Boston earlier this year Sox down by 1 and the same thing was set up. The place was rockin, Ortiz hit a single and then Manny popped up to shallow left to end the game. The air came out of the place so fast, felt like being hit in the chest.

As for Ortiz, I'd say he's above average in confidence, (he is, after all, considered the best DH in baseball today) but my point was that Manny is unique. I'm sure you've heard of some Red Sox fan saying "that's just Manny being Manny", which means he lives in his own world. To him, pitchers are not much different than a mechanical ball-thrower....ok, that's an exaggeration, but you get the point....

Why I don't need the MSM...evermore
October 6, 2007 - 11:37 ET by JayTeeWhy I don’t need the wonderful world of the MSM anymore……
If I want to Know about Blackwater over in Iraq, I can go on the Web and get information from someone who has been in Iraq, worked with Blackwater, someone who can speak with authority on the subject.. I don’t need no stinkin Talking Head who just pulled the Story from the wire services, followed by 15 minutes of research, so they can Rush to “Explain”. I can get information from someone who has “Lived” the experience, observed the Reality, and will Represent the Facts without Bias.
And if you care about the subject matter in depth, you can join Blogs and have similar (Un-reported) information delivered to your E-mail address Daily.
Sometimes you have an interest in a Subject / Hobby / Skill that is shared by only 18 people in your entire state, and 1 Iranian in New Hampshire……and the MSM never covers the subject.
But someday, that Obscure knowledge of the Cambodia border at Christmas time, or the Typewriter Fonts of the 1960’s will get the MSM attention and result in 70 million dollar lawsuits against the MSM (if U know what I mean).
All the talking Heads of the MSM cannot compete, EVER, with the WWW and it’s Journalists of the moment, it’s expertise of the day, and it’s un-deniable TRUTH on any subject you would care to LIE about.
TALKING HEARDS OF THE WORLD, dissolve !! …we don’t need you anymore …If we want a good looking Blonde telling us about President Bush, we’ll sign on to the RNC website. If we want to hear what Rush Limbaugh really said, we’ll sign on to Rush’s website, or have it Podcast daily.
If we want LIES, Sex, and Video Tape, we’ll turn on the TV and watch MSM.
But with the WWW, the TRUTH is EASY to find, and will be halfway around the World before Harry Reid can get to the Senate executive washroom, and Find Craig,

October 6, 2007 - 12:54 ET by dervishFound this link. That site doesn't look too rabid, but it's still early in the season.
Fulmer's always struck me as the Jeff Van Gundy of the SEC -- with enough talent, the coaching doesn't matter much. I'm guessing he's starting to regret throwing Randy Sanders under the bus a couple of years ago, but that doesn't explain what happened to the defense this year.
He's presided over his share of academic scandal, and I wouldn't be
surprised if there's a police substation in the football dorm; becoming
the SEC doormat doesn't leave him much to stand on. If they go 0-for-everything in the SEC this year, or even if they manage to get by Vandy, I can't see how they'd keep him. There's way too much money involved to keep a loser.

October 6, 2007 - 12:48 ET by MikeBBoth Texas and Oklahoma may be over-rated, but I would like to point out one thing: Texas lost at home, by 20 points to Kansas State. Oklahoma lost by 3 points on the road at high altitude to Colorado. Oklahoma may well lose today. With this game no one can really predict it. It has had so many upsets over the years it isn't funny. Both teams seem to play above themselves for this game, so anything can happen. In the old Big 8, at least for Oklahoma, this game and the annual Nebraska game were the games for OU. Oklahoma could have a 10 and 1 season, and everything would be okay, except if the one loss was to Texas or Nebraska. If that were the case, all the armchair quarterbacks and armchair coaches would scream for the head coach's head. (That almost sounds redundant, doesn't it?)

I'll stick with my pick of the Dawgs over Tenn. Looks like they will end the career of Phil "Fat Phil" Fulmer. Look to hear Glory, Glory, Ole Georgia played more than Rocky Top.
I have rethough this LSU-FL game. I had a platoon leader in "70 who had played at Ole Miss. He said that the toughest place to play was in Baton Rouge on a Saturday night. I really think that FL has a chance.
I am not going to make anymore predictions. I ain't good at it anyway. Well one more. The guys from VA Tech get back to playing Beemer ball and beat Clem's son.
Looks like the race at Talladage is going to be a wreck fest. Villanenue (?) is starting near the front. He really has no business being in the race. This is the first time I have ever agreed with Jeff Gordon. Toyotas are looking strong. Don't matter I hate restrictor plate racing.

October 6, 2007 - 18:30 ET by BlondeCongrats on your blue victory today. Anyone who beats the Canes is great in my book.
Did you see dervish's link to the FirePhilFulmer site (above). Pretty funny. I'm hoping TN wins over Georgia, but just for the SEC East rankings. I'd love to see Fat Phil retired.

October 6, 2007 - 18:53 ET by BlondeWhich is one of the reasons I am so annoyed with the Canes.
I still wish they were on the schedule, though, instead of the two patsies we always open the season with.
I have to put up with alot of them (Canes) on a day to day basis. Not nice.

Guys, Like I said- useless predictions. Gators might just win.
October 6, 2007 - 20:29 ET by Dave RGT lost and so did Georgia (and bad, too.)
Who knows, the Gators might just take the Tigers?

A story that deserves to be
October 6, 2007 - 13:15 ET by Clear thinkerA story that deserves to be shared.
Last night our Granddaughter took the wife and I to dinner. This was her gift to us for our wedding anniversary. She chose one of those Steak & all-u-can-eat Buffet style restaurants. She did this for two reasons. It's all she could afford and she loves the dessert bar (she's only 14).
What happened at the restaurant will never be forgotten by the 3 of us... There have been quite a few times that I have picked up the tab for a table of soldiers in uniform whenever I run into them at restaurants. This is my way of thanking them for their service. While I was eating, my wife casually asked if I would pay for a soldiers dinner if he came into the restaurant and I said sure. Both my Wife and Granddaughter laughed at me when I said that.
The two of them were seated in a way that they could see the parking lot and the front door so I had no idea what was so funny. A moment later I found out why. I turned around to see a steady stream of soldiers coming through the door and across the parking lot, so now I got the joke. My first thought was "holy cow how am I going to pay for all of them" and then decided I would keep my word and whip out my charge card. There were exactly 66 of them, I know this because I asked. Suddenly the place was swarming with soldiers and we found ourselves sitting next to a table of 4. It was obvious that these were kids barely out of high school so I asked the guys next to us where they were from. They had all just finished basic training at Fort Campbell Kentucky and were on their way to Fort Jackson in S.C. We shared as much conversation as possible because these guys were on a schedule and they had to eat rather fast. My Granddaughter has never been shy and aske
