MRC's Bozell Blasts MSNBC for Rush Smear

  • Bookmark and Share

The Media Research Center distributed the following press release Monday afternoon:

Media Research Center President Brent Bozell blasted MSNBC for deliberately misrepresenting statements radio host Rush Limbaugh made Thursday about an anti-war activist who falsely and despicably passed himself off as an Army Ranger and Purple Heart winner. On Friday, MSNBC’s Hardball and Countdown programs wrongly adopted the dishonest spin of the far-left group Media Matters to attack Limbaugh.

On Monday, three days before Limbaugh’s comments, ABC’s World News exposed the same anti-war activist, and ABC reporter Brian Ross declared his story “a complete fabrication.” In spite of this, Media Matters and MSNBC pounded Limbaugh for making the exact same point.

“The character assassination train continues to roll along. Last week, CNN and CBS took unfair aim at Bill O’Reilly. And now, MSNBC has willfully disregarded its news judgment to air false allegations about Rush Limbaugh. This is nothing short of a deliberate pattern to smear the reputations of conservative media personalities in order to eliminate any voice of opposition. These are the tactics of both Media Matters and MoveOn.org. News organizations have no business perpetuating these smears. The least they can do is check the facts.

“Media Matters and its co-conspirators in the liberal media are striving to restore the leftist media majority that existed before the New Media. They have crossed all lines of honesty and decency. In June, NBC highlighted Media Matters’ out-of-context attack on Limbaugh’s parody song, “Barack the Magic Negro.” Last week, CNN & CBS promoted Media Matters’ dishonest attack on Bill O’Reilly. Since the liberal media have lost the confidence of their viewers, they have resorted to parroting character attacks by a left-wing smear machine and has forsaken its journalistic credibility,” Bozell concluded.

Good for Mr. Bozell. Now,

Good for Mr. Bozell. Now, I'd like to hear some congressional Republicans start blasting them. Helloooo? Is any senator or congressman there? Maybe we better check in the tall grass...

Chris,

For an "opposition" party, the republicans don't seem to be able to conjure up much opposition. If they were to not show up for the next session of congress, would anybody even notice they were missing?

I haven't noticed them.

Dave, I haven't noticed them at all. They probably thought the defeats meant they had to stay silent for the whole term, sitting in the corner. Pathetic.

Agreed. Last I remember

Agreed.

Last I remember hearing from Republicans they were trying to ram shamnesty down our throats. Oh no, wait. I did hear a squeak out of them for the moveon crapola ad, but thats about it. The silence is deafening.

It's like they want to sit back and lay low hoping they can keep their seats. I got news for them, it ain't going to work. I'd rather them fight hard and loose than just go quietly into the night trying to "get along".

Add in the twisting of

Add in the twisting of President Bush's commentary about Mandellas in Iraq and as Rush pointed out the prior kerfuffle about the Michael J Fox stem cell videos and you see a desperate move to try to spin for all the left is worth.

Clearly all this does is show how bankrupt they are in the marketplace of ideas.

Too bad their

Too bad their counterfeit currency still spends like the real thing in the media.

still hoping for the Dunce-o-crat resolution - thereby making this a grand slam out of the park

So, katlee, you think the lies about Rush

are ok and that we should ignore the smear?   Just walk away and pretend that it never happened?

I couldn't care less about

I couldn't care less about "poor little Rush". I hardly watch him or listen to him. But aren't you the least concerned about the blatant misinformation you are being spoon fed (and are seemingly going back to for seconds)? These are clear lies and blatant disinformation from our supposedly unbiased news media. How are people supposed to make any kind of informed decision, about anything, if the only information they receive to make said decision is false? How are we supposed to decide the leaders of our nation (not a trivial issue) if we don't see what they ALL have to offer and what their positions are on the issues? Are you ready for the media to decide who will be president, who will "represent" us in congress, how much we should pay in taxes, whether AGW is real or not, what should be taught in our schools, and all other such issues for us? This isn't about Rush or BOR or republican or democrat or conservative or liberal. This is about allowing media moguls and their elite talking heads to make our decisions for us. And rest assured, if we give them the slightest opportunity to do so, they will jump at it and never give it up.

The Closed Mind Erects Strong Barriers

This isn't about Rush

This is about how the Left spreads LIES.

Rush never said what they say he said.  The "soldier" in question was a boot camp dropout who NEVER served in Iraq or anywhere else.  Rush exposed the phoniness of the Left who feel no shame in using lies to promote their Anti-Americanism, and then lie about about anyone who would dare oppose and expose them.

The lies of MoveOn, Media Matters and the Democratic Party are an insult to ALL Americans - even you Katlee - if you care at all about truth, freedom and the security of the USA.

And now, to cover their own Military-Hating posteriors, they pick up on a propagandistic LIE from Media Matters and take it to the floor of Congress to denounce one of the strongest supporters of our soldiers as disrespecting them, when it is THEY who have been disrespecting our soldiers and their mission since they were initiated into the Hate-America-First DemocRAT Party.

The Left is an insult to every soldier who ever died or was wounded in defense of the Liberty that those who denigrate them reserve only to themselves.

I could not agree more.

By the way...where are the conservative/republican defenders?

Has anyone heard any yet?

It no longer matters what

It no longer matters what the actual details of the story are. The MSM will only cover the cartoon version of events...

What I find the most

What I find the most disturbing of all isn't necessarily the attacks themselves (they're to be expected from those who have no cogent arguments). What bothers me the most, by far, is how incredibly stupid they seem to think people are. They tried this with O'Reilly and got hammered for it. Then, less than a week later, they try the EXACT SAME TACTIC on Rush, like nobody will notice. Or maybe we forgot what happened less than a week ago. Am I the only one insulted by this attack, not against BOR or Rush, but upon my intelligence?

The Closed Mind Erects Strong Barriers

Believe it or not, there

Believe it or not, there are people out there who, when they see attacks like this, pump their fists in the air and say, "Yes!". They don't have the intelligence to be insulted (or concerned about free speech) - only the hate and the shallowness to enjoy it.

Oh, I know that all too well

Oh, I know that all too well Chris. I have one sitting right next to me at work. He doesn't know how close he came to a shot in the mouth last week over O'Reilly. And it had nothing to do with whether or not I "support" BOR or the fact that we disagreed about the issue. It was about him spewing these ridiculous liberal talking points without a hint of intelligence or free thought on his part. And not stopping (exactly like the libs do with all their talking points). But I didn't hit him, so I guess we both had a good day after all... ;-}

Beo,We have something in

Beo,

We have something in common. I sit across from my brother at work and I came close to choking him last Friday when he started taunting me about getting me a ticket to Al Gore's appearance here in Albuquerque (I never bring up politics). If he can't defend a position, he says I get my talking points from Rush - just a dishonest red cape he waves, considering I don't have a chance to listen to Rush. He's not so much a liberal as anti-Bush/Republican. It's a snob thing (he perceives liberals as being more intelligent and sophisticated than conservatives) and the fact he is a UC Berkeley grad. He just can't help himself. He loves Olbermann and is like a pig in cool mud over any attack on Rush and Conservatives in general.

My sympathies, Chris. For

Thanks. He can really be insufferable at times. He tries to push my buttons all day and usually fails. When I snap and go after him, he really gets silly. The thing is, he aligns himself a lot with conservative positions, but he can't bear to think of himself as a conservative. His politics are mostly a mess.

Not to play doctor, Chris,

Wished I was getting warmed up...got to leave pretty quick though.

Hope to be getting caught up this week sometime though on here....likely after Wed. (I still keep up with politics via the boob-tube, debates and all)

Beowulf -

I pretty much agree with your last few posts.

But MOSTLY I am in total agreement with you remarks about the media (neoPravda) thinking we are idiots ... and what is worse, the democrats believe that too.

Chances are, your co-worker has rarely, if ever, viewed Bill O`Reilly, or listened to Limbaugh ... and most importantly NOT listened to BOTH men's complete shows containing the remarks in the news in full.

The problem with liberals is they choose to have somebody else think for them ... and want a Hillary presidency so they'll have the government do everything for them also.

drill, you're absolutely

drill, you're absolutely correct. I asked him long ago, when he began making his snide comments about BOR and FOX in general, if he ever actually watched any of the programming he so maligned. Of course, his answer was an emphatic no. He would rather be told what FOX is all about than to strain his two or three brain cells and make a decision for himself. And as usual, when I prompted him for even a single example of bias, the party line began and he walked away (the only positive thing about our whole conversation).

As for liberal politicians treating us like mentally challenged children, I didn't want to get into that. Just dealing with the media aspect was enough for one thread...

Thanks for the support, but

Thanks for the support, but it's definitely best that I didn't, for several reasons. I'd be in trouble. He'd be unconcious. My hand would hurt (have you ever seen how hard a liberal's head is???). He would have been the overall winner of the argument, since I can only justify violence in response to or in defense from violence. Punching his lights out would have been a clear victory for him, since he didn't take a swing at me first. Got to steer clear of that low-brow conservative label...

Well on the Senate floor

Well on the Senate floor Harry Reid is still running with the debunked Media Matters crap about Rush talking about all anti war soldiers and Tom Harkin is speculating if Rush was on drugs.

Right2.... I heard

Right2....

I heard fearless leader Reid on Rush today....

I caught the Harkin BS...Harkin has been trying for years in the Senate to get Rush off of the radio so our military cannot even hear a half hour of his show.

Beware the Fairness Doctrine.

Oh boy! They're shooting

Oh boy! They're shooting their w-- on this one, eh?  (sorry, youth language flash-back)

BTW, heard Reid on the floor ... It's what we suspected.  He mentioned Limbaugh being on Armed Forces Radio.

There really needs to be an investigation into this, and the moveon ad of a couple weeks ago.

Listened to Rush today.  Rush apologized to the troops!!! ...

He apologized to the troops ...  for MediaMatters, moveon.borg and for Reid, Kerry and others ...

Preparing the battlefield...

The MSM in conjunction with the far left are simply preparing the battlefield for the Democratic run for the Presidency. I can only hope that the backlash is also coming.

I got busy at the end of

I got busy at the end of Limbaugh's broadcast this afternoon (especially after the Justice Thomas interview), and completely forgot he'd done this after he heard Reid on the house floor ... But Drudge is carrying it as the top headline on his site right now

Rush also challenged Reid (and another congressman) to come on his show and tell him to his face (Rush's face) that he said what Reid says he said ... Well, you know what he means.  There is also the transcript of the "apology" to the troops.

This Thanksgiving, when I

This Thanksgiving, when I publicly at our dinner table thank G-d for my wonderful and successful and beautiful children, my husband since H.S. graduation, my warm and safe home, our troops and our freedoms ... I WILL be thanking G-d for conservative blogs/bloggers, one and all.

Fake war hero Tom Harkin smears Rush Limbaugh

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 1, 2007 04:46 PM

Not any thank yous to her

No thank yous to Hillary, who may bring you free health care and $5000 smackeroos for each child for their future? No thank yous to Obama for working to bring us all together? No thank yous to the Democrats who work hard each and every day to secure our economic and social blessings from the government? No thanks to our resident liberal trolls who point out the errors of our thoughts and ways? Ingrate. :)

NOT even a place at the

NOT even a place at the kiddie table ... Not even a plate of scraps on the floor beside my dog ... Not even what ends up getting kicked to the curb at the end of the week in the cans ...

So, that is a definite

So, that is a definite "no"? :)

One has to be careful with the politics of personal destruction

Eventually, the truth will out. It almost always does. People will learn what Rush Limbaugh said and surely was thinking of when he said, "Phony soldiers." People will learn that an intern at Media Matters falsely claimed that Rush had aimed that characterization at all military people who disagree with US military policy in Iraq.

The relevant part of the transcript of Rush's program in no way supports the intern's characterization. MSNBC staffers and personalities and a bunch of Democratic politicians chose to denounce a wholly erroneous claim. Nobody apparently looked at the transcript before leaping into the void. If one is going to argue ad hominem, as so many did, one ought to be certain one's insults reflect what a man said or did, not what one of the man's ideological opponents has claimed.

Rush today said that the Democratic Leader of the U.S. Senate uttered "lies." One greatly doubts Senator Reid lied when he repeated the Media Matters claim. To lie, one has to say something one knows to be false. We do not know yet whether the Senator knew the truth. Did he do the responsible thing before denouncing an individual in the well of the Senate, did he notice that the claim he almost surely saw was devoid of quote marks except, most likely, around "phony soldiers"? Did he ask for the transcript, did he ask whether anyone had tried to match the claim with the transcript?

Perhaps also Reid and the others rushed with what they thought was an incriminating piece against Rush that would accomplish two things. Take down Rush and his influence before th e 2008 elections. Shift public attention from their own egregiously bad record and words--remember Dick Durbin--with regard to US responsibilities and the service of its troops.

As a former reporter, I'm interested in the news. Can't say I can trust MSNBC,  not that I ever did. It would help the network if someone took a fall for rushing with what some outfit inimical to Rush claimed he had said. I'm interested in what others might report of Senator Reid today.

Senator Reid disgraced the Senate today. Shouldn't a recklessly false characterization of what someone said be something a Senator should avoid, lest someone think of historical precedents? Electing Democrats to the Senate gives us Reid in power: not good for the nation.

Letting MSNBC get away with this episode gives us something equally bad: another reason to distrust the mainstream news media, which well-based distrust can't be good, since so many people share it.
