As with nearly all of those who simply wish to abandon the rest of the world and "Dig in on the Rio Grande", Ron Paul shows an AMAZING lack of strategic thought processes.
I'm 40 miles from UNH, but didn't watch a minute-the Red Sox are losing to the Blue Jays 6-4 in the top of the 9th inning. Since the hated Yankees are winning, we need to pull this one out to maintain our 7 game lead.
For Mitt to be shaky in his own back yard indicates that he's got problems ahead. He's been running a ton of radio ads in New Hampshire lately, which isn't good.
As for me, it's Rudy all the way (this coming from a former NYC resident who remembers how Rudy reclaimed the city from the Dems).
Mitt just blew it totally. He sounded like a ninth grader. As did McCain. Particularly on the "Iran" question.
To my way of thinking, Huckabee and Guliani just ran away with this one. Color me shocked.

And Hunter was my choice for third place tonite.
Everyone else was kind of pale. Ron Paul looked and sounded like, I don't know what.
I think most here would agree, though, that the questions (and follow ups) were so adult compared to the liberal kiss-ass suck-up questions in the (D) debates.

I also think it is a mistake for him to go after Rudy's record on illegal immigration. Instead he should simply state we should empower cities to combat illegal immigration and not put people like Rudy in a position to where he feels he must work with the illegals because the federal government doesn't have his back, and we need to limit federal funds to those cities who still want to be considered a sanctuary city. When he puts Rudy on the defensive, then people look at his own record to determine if he is being a hyprcrit. Which is why Hume mentioned illegals were mowing Mitt's lawn. Let the pundits make the mud connections.

Hunter has never copied anybody in his life, least of all Giuliani...he has always been his own man.
I also know he will be out of the race soon, but I have had nothing but admiration for him for a very long time listening to him on the House floor and watching his votes.
Looks like the people in NH were watching a different debate. I didn't see anything to change my opinion about McCain.
McCain lost me 8 years ago when he was speaking in front of a crowd of college students and said he was "like Luke Skywalker attacking the Death Star."
I'm a Star Wars fan, but that comment was a bit too far out for me.
Vote for "<insert name of conservative who stands up to the media>" for President in 2008.
I remember it vividly. I saw it on the news (probably FNC) so there must be footage of it in existence somewhere. If McCain gets the nomination, some liberal will probably post it on YouTube.
Vote for "<insert name of conservative who stands up to the media>" for President in 2008.
I found it kind of interesting that the rest of the candidates paid him some nice compliments....a true kiss of the black widow. McCain's just too obtuse to know he's over. Sad.
David Gregory, do you know which damn network you lie for? ~ Uncle Jimbo, @Blackfive
I've supported Duncan Hunter since he announced his candidacy. IMO, he is a genuine conservative. Hunter may not win the nomination, but he should be on the short list for VP, or as Secretary of Defense in a Republican administration.
Yes, 80% of life is showing up; however, (I may be mistaken but) I don't believe that Thompson has formally entered the race yet, and he'd be a fool to pass up airtime on Leno, where he can come accross as personable/likeable to millions of non-watchers of the debate (think general election, folks), when there are going to be other debates down the road that he'll have the chance to participate in. I think it was a shrewd move.
I see the Paul moonbat brigade is busy again tonight. So far, Fox news text message opinion polling shows he won the debate. Too bad for him that text messaging isn't how we elect Presidents.
Sorry, but what world does Ron Paul believe exists outside the borders of the US?
This isn't 1807. It's 2007. The type of role he wishes the US to play in the world is just not tenable.
If the US is not the predominant power in the world, then another nation will be. That's been the history of mankind for hundreds of years. Certainly since the establishment of the nation state.
What nation does Paul and his acolytes think should dominate the world? Because if isn't the US, it'll be someone else.
"Huckabee just said "if your not here you forfeit" on H&C."
Unfortunately for him, Huckabee doesn't get to make that call, as the polls show differently.
As for Fred, I think he will sputter once he gets in. I've seen him in a few interviews recently, and I wasn't impressed. I wanted him to be the guy, but now I'm not sure. We'll see. Maybe he's been practicing all this time. I hope so.
Yeah, that did end weird... you mean Fred's exit from Leno?
But yeah, Thompson impressed me... a real John Wayne type... and his line about how we've shed more blood for other's freedom than all other countries combined, really silenced Leno's mild left-leaning questions... he's a straight shooter, it seems, and it's also why he doesn't give a hoot for posing and pleasantries (sp?) like, oh say.....
I switched from NBC to CNN immediatlely when Leno went to commercial... and immediately I got that icky feeling.... and it was white-hair, raspy-voiced, glint-in-his-eye himself! Yeah, we all know who! :p
My general impression of the Republican ‘news conference’ was that no one ran away with it. Much of it consisted of ‘boiler plate’ answers because of the ‘boiler plate’ questions asked, and no innovative answers were given.
At the moment, I like Giuliani because I think he’d be great in a cat fight with a Democrat opponent and, especially, with the press where he has shown that he doesn’t suffer fools.
As for Ron Paul, he is an idealistic anachronism with no sense of historic reality.
The big question mark is, of course, Thompson. If he doesn’t come out swinging, his candidacy will be short lived.
In the final analysis, if the Republican nominee doesn’t show a willingness to get down and dirty with his Democrat opponent and the press, he can kiss the Republican base goodbye.
Yes, Giuliani would defintely be the favorite in any duel of wits -- or actual issues -- w/ any Democrat... and I'm from NYC, and yes, he doesn't suffer fools, but he doesn't do it in an arrogant way either... he's a cool cat, but it's subtle. He knows how to handle the press and pressure, from working here as both mayor and DA.
Tonight I saw one adult in a midst of snotty democratic children and a group of Republicans auditioning for a job and that adult was Fred Thompson.
I could care less about Hillary's polling guru or Republicans hiding what they are for fear of offending a voting block, because none of these people have it figured out WHAT a President of the United States is.
A President of the United States is an elected dictator. That is no slam against the founders nor America, but that is what that office is all about. The presidency is a model after the first General of America in George Washington. None of these candidates beside Thompson has it figured out that you do not ask Americans you tell Americans which end is up.
Can not stand the creature, but even Bill Clinton was more adept at telling Americans he was going to be their national daddy crying allot than Bush 41 or Dole could figure out.
Fred Thompson got that figured out. He went on Leno, because he needs the silent want to be hugged and want to be left alone crowd's vote. He came across tough in his own message with a cheering crowd while Republicans picked at the open wound they are making of the presidency they see and are lying about.
I am not saying this to degrade Republicans as I do not want a leftist dem in that office due to the horrific times America is about o face, but what you have in Mitt and Rudy are patrician womb to the tomb moderates like Bill Buckley. McCain is an ornery moderate who sold out to mafia gaming interests long ago in the Nixon form. Ron Paul is a Pat Buchanan isolationist and Tom Tancredo has Bay Buchanan running his camp. The rest of the characters are only auditioning for jobs after the big boys win.........and frankly like Patton said, "I wouldn't accept a man who smiled in loosing"........ so why should America want some looser to get an appointment at a job they never earned.
Fred Thompson is doing it his way and the sooner he holds his guns to doing it his way the sooner America will figure out he is fair, but not going to put up with their tantrums.
I doubt that America wants to suckle the nipple of Hillary Clinton for 8 years as national mommy dearest. I doubt America wants Obama who was the pretty boy now trying to be a street brawler and looking gay and I doubt America wants to cuddle up to Al Gore who looks more each day like some character out of a Dracula movie. The democrats are DOA no matter what they attempt even on MSM life support.
At this moment Thompson is coming across as the General he needs to be and he will need momentum, but if he has his Ronald Reagan moment the RINO's will fold fast..........and it is probable he will win in a landslide as 50% of America will not vote for what the democrats have on the table.
Thompson being Tennessee conservative if he takes a leap of faith and the GOP see the ticket of Thompson Lieberman, it will mean the conservatives, the middleority and the patricians with the democrats who were voting Gore before.
Leave the Arkansas wanna be VP in Arkansas as the first thing people in the west think of Ar Kansas is Bill Clinton no matter the message.
Thompson won the first night of his first debate as he set the agenda and was not having the agenda set. Watch him when Joseph Farah moderates the Florida debate as that will be his moment.
Maybe, but he seems to take the long way to explain it, even without a timer.
He went on Leno, because he needs the silent want to be hugged and want to be left alone crowd's vote.
He went on Leno, so he could answer (Leno questions) and have the stage to himself, I am not drawing any more conclusions then that.
He came across tough in his own message with a cheering crowd while Republicans picked at the open wound they are making of the presidency they see and are lying about.
He came across tough, what?
Fred is ok, but before he gets my endorsement he is going to have to go toe to toe with the rest of them. I thought he threw away another opportunity to do that last night.
I like this group, Fred may win me over, but he has had zip for competition, avoiding it as much as possible while the others have stood up to every question under the sun LIVE not taped delayed in the studio.
Who is funding this stupid blitz of "Support the Troops by bringing them home now" advertising featuring a supposed ex-soldier telling the camera the Iraqi people hate the American soldiers?

First off, let's not give up on Fred. I believe he did the right thing. It is early in the campaign, and I think it was a good tactical maneuver on his part.
IMHO,
McCain-I believe he would be the best in regards to the war on terror. His answers were calm and collected. He doesn't run on emotion, and that is what we need. He didn't win points with me on his immigration policy.
Mitt Romney- My first choice, before I watched the debate. He seems plastic to me and unsure.
Rudy Guiliani- Too busy talking about his 'successes' in NY to really answer any of the questions in an intelligent manner.
Huckabee-Made some good points on certain things. Not really impressive.
Talcredo-Not impressed.
Duncan Hunter-Never heard of him before the flyer I got in the mail the day of the debate. Doesn't sound strong. We will have to wait and see.
Ron Paul- Who invited this raging liberal? This was a joke right? It was like watching a train wreck.
I can't stop shaking my head about this guy. He says he wants to get rid of Homeland Security, FBI, CIA and more. Then in the question about dealing with Iran, says he will rely on intelligence gathered before making a decision. I am curious as to who will gather the intelligence. I am bewildered.

I have to disagree with you about Hunter here...
Hunter has never copied anybody in his life, least of all Giuliani...he has always been his own man.
I also know he will be out of the race soon, but I have had nothing but admiration for him for a very long time listening to him on the House floor and watching his votes.
Just my point of view.
I am surprised Hunter

McCain lost me 8 years ago when he was speaking in front of a crowd of college students and said he was "like Luke Skywalker attacking the Death Star."
I'm a Star Wars fan, but that comment was a bit too far out for me.

McCain's schtick was the same old.
I found it kind of interesting that the rest of the candidates paid him some nice compliments....a true kiss of the black widow. McCain's just too obtuse to know he's over. Sad.

I think it was a shrewd move.

I hope so.

September 6, 2007 - 00:30 ET by MrShyYeah, that did end weird... you mean Fred's exit from Leno?
But yeah, Thompson impressed me... a real John Wayne type... and his line about how we've shed more blood for other's freedom than all other countries combined, really silenced Leno's mild left-leaning questions... he's a straight shooter, it seems, and it's also why he doesn't give a hoot for posing and pleasantries (sp?) like, oh say.....
I switched from NBC to CNN immediatlely when Leno went to commercial... and immediately I got that icky feeling.... and it was white-hair, raspy-voiced, glint-in-his-eye himself! Yeah, we all know who! :p

Debate
September 6, 2007 - 00:25 ET by pocomocoMy general impression of the Republican ‘news conference’ was that no one ran away with it.
Yes, Giuliani would
September 6, 2007 - 00:35 ET by MrShyYes, Giuliani would defintely be the favorite in any duel of wits -- or actual issues -- w/ any Democrat... and I'm from NYC, and yes, he doesn't suffer fools, but he doesn't do it in an arrogant way either... he's a cool cat, but it's subtle. He knows how to handle the press and pressure, from working here as both mayor and DA.

The Real Debate
September 6, 2007 - 02:11 ET by Lame CherryTonight I saw one adult in a midst of snotty democratic children and a group of Republicans auditioning for a job and that adult was Fred Thompson.

Fred Thompson got that
September 6, 2007 - 09:21 ET by general companyMaybe, but he seems to take the long way to explain it, even without a timer.
He went on Leno, so he could answer (Leno questions) and have the stage to himself, I am not drawing any more conclusions then that.

September 8, 2007 - 15:01 ET by Felicia LuceFirst off, let's not give up on Fred.

September 8, 2007 - 15:10 ET by Felicia LuceI can't stop shaking my head about this guy. He says he wants to get rid of Homeland Security, FBI, CIA and more.
