July 28, 2007 - 10:48 ET by the mad poleCan the illegals go home NOW? I'm out of work for weeks now and the only company still giving me work says it maybe weeks more. I was born here and I work harder than a crew of illegals And the quality is excellent. It's frustrating to pass all the job sites and see there are no gringos, even city, state and county projects! My resentment is growing.

July 28, 2007 - 11:33 ET by DontFeedTheTrollsMy brother did roofing and framing for contractors for 20 years making $20 to $25 tops. He now can't get the same work for more than $10 to $15 tops because of the influx of ILLEGALS. They are NOT taking jobs Americans won't do, they are degrading the wage base for certain sectors of the work force and eroding the tax base. Look how they ruined the city of Hazelton PA (just ONE city) by increasing the population by 50% while the tax base stayed the same. They are also ruining neighborhoods by crowding multiple families in single family homes.
We, as a nation, are in serious trouble from this INVASION of ILLEGALS.

dontfeedthetrolls
July 28, 2007 - 11:58 ET by misterbilldontfeedthetrolls-- In 1996, I was transferred to Florida(Tampa). My oldest son came down to live with us from Connecticut. He was a $17/hour experinced roofer. In Tampa he made $6.50 an hour and it was discriminatory pay. That is, the illegals made $5.50 and hour and he had to show them how to do it. I went to his work site one day. It was over 100 degrees and the roofing crew were working at high speed. I asked my son why they did not take a break in the torrid heat and he told me that anyone who could not maintain the pace was fired on the spot and a replacement was there within an hour.
Not only are illegals used to deflate wages, but they are used to bring in old work practices that have long since been prohibited by our government.
PS--I made a bet with a friend a few years ago that I could tell, in a development, if it had been done by illegally hired labor. He asked me how I could tell and I showed him in a couple of places where the shingles were rippled instead of smooth. That is not so true today as many have learned how to roof correctly.
The mayor of Hazelton is prepared to go to the Supreme Court if necessary to win his case. My county--Cobb, in Georgia, just passed an ordinance that states there must be 390 square feet per adult. This has not yet been challenged. It arose as a result (example that was brought before the council) of 10 adults with seven cars living in a 1550 sqft house. among others. Today , in the very liberal Atlanta Journal Constitution there were letters to the editors about how cruel Cobb County is to needy people.

Lion--I am assuming---
July 28, 2007 - 12:27 ET by misterbillLion--I am assuming---you are in IT???? I spent 50 years in that arena. I have been out for two years now. It's not about making it anymore with the employers. It is about how high they can raise the profits.
In the construction industry--I had an addition to my house recently. The contractor and his help were all Americans. He discussed repairing the landscaping on a separate basis from building. He said I can save you money and bring in illegals for one day's work. $35 and hour for "undocumented workers" (not his exact words), or $50/hour for American landscapers. I am retired and don't have a large income but I said , "I will pay the $50.00". Well, of course you know that the illegal workers would be lucky to get 6.50 an hour. As it turns out , he brought in two people who, I am sure, wrere not documented, but I was not charged for their 4 hours of labor. I do not blame anyone for trying to get the best deal for their dollar--but when one has a choice--in my book--one should choose American. What a damned protectionist I am.
The hold the union has in America angers many people. Many people must make the choice to go the cheapest route. Unions need to change. The employers are really in the driver's seat at this point in history.
PS I am sure I will get a lot of arguments about my last statement re: employers and unions.

Hmmmm. I'm going to have to give this some thought.
Blonde-- I am no economist--
July 28, 2007 - 12:46 ET by misterbillBlonde-- I am no economist--but I believe that the business model that would work better in today's environment is the old profit-sharing concept. e.g. If I were to buy a franchise (say Maaco), I would ask my employees to accept a base salary somewhat lower than the industry standars and on a monthly or quarterly basis, disburse shares , in cash. The shares of cash, of course, would be larger based on job performance and quality. There are many garahes in the US that have a somewhat "similar" plan. Jobs are rated by the hour. So, if a job effort is rated as a four hour effort and the employee executes ir in 3 1/2 hours, 1/2 hours wage goes into his "share pool". If the customer does not come back with a complaint in 30 days, the employee gets that 1/2 hour and others in a separate check. A very efficient system that rewards quality work at the same time.
But what would I know, I'm not an economist.
PS To transfer that to GM e.g., the union would have to accept that a job is worth X dollars an hour at a mutually agreed upon production rate. Should the production line turn out one extra vehicle per day, the line would share in the profits from that extra vehicle. Should there be a shirker in the line, his fellow workers might address that with him.
PPS OK you economists , rip me to pieces.
A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government.

Juducial Watch or ADF or someone(?) needs to bring suit against the Government because of failure to support our laws.
PS Per my neighbor, a retired newspaper editor--who has studied thr influx of lower cost labor--the price of some objects (like homes) are not reduced because of lower labor costs. The profits of the developer increase.
Misterb
July 28, 2007 - 13:04 ET by botgthe unions will recruit those who will pay dues, the wage level is to a point irrelevant as it is the employers that pay. The unions will attempt to organize the workers (legal and illegal) in companies that are paying the lower wage, hoping to to reach the point where they can intimidate any companies using non-union workers into signing on to the agreement

July 28, 2007 - 13:10 ET by misterbillI did not go into the detail that you have--you are absolutely correct. The net result---over time---is little or no change. Lionking -- mindboggling I
July 28, 2007 - 11:52 ET by Jack BauerLionking -- mindboggling I just read this after posting above.
This couldn't be a better juxtaposition of stories.
Men arrested, charged and tried for giving away bibles. Man arrested for dropping a Koran down a toilet.
Placed in Cow Dung or Urine
July 28, 2007 - 14:38 ET by ThisnThatThese men would have been praised as artists and invited inside the school if, instead of simply giving away Bibles, they had dipped the Bibles in cow dung or placed in a jar of urine. Just another hateful episode in the twisted non-logic of liberal retards.
1st Amedment under PC attack. Again.
July 28, 2007 - 11:48 ET by Jack BauerNow I personally have much better things to do with my time than flush any book down a toilet, but this has got be disturbing for anyone concerned with free expression and free speech.
Just to put some "context" and "texture" and "subtext" to this (libz love these words)
The Supreme Court has, I believe, upheld that pornography is "protected speech."
Of course pornography is, at its basest, merely organized violence and degredation against women. There are real victims here. Real hate, and real people destroyed, morally, socially and physically.
But last time I checked, destroying a book didn't harm anyone.
Better not try to flush Mein Kampf down the loo -- you might get arrested for hate speech against Nazis.
Of course, there is the obvious comparsion -- what's the likelihood of an atheist being arrested for burning the bible?
And you know what, unpleasant as tyhat would be, I don't think they should be. But just speculating.
Though when you have the US government deciding which books are okay and which are not -- oh hang on, isn't that called the Soviet Union, Communist China, Cuba, places like that.
You'll also be happy to know that your tax dollars are hard at work via the police who sanctioned this arrest after being pressured by CAIR.

Jack...
July 28, 2007 - 11:52 ET by LionKingJack, I think you miss the obvious. I believe a hate crime must be committed against a minority class...the presumption would be that Christians are not a minority, yet, the majority has not power. (Refer to Republican Congress from 2000 to 2006...wimps)
Flushing the Quran - is that like burning a flag?
July 28, 2007 - 11:52 ET by acaiguanaI guess not, Flag Burning is protected speech.
What if I flush the Donald Duck comic book down the toilet? How about Einstein's paper on Relativity? Or Darwin's book on evolution. Or Plato's the Republic? Or Heinlien's Starship Troopers?
How about I flush more than two squares of TP?
How about I simply take the Quran outside and cut it up in small pieces along with a Bible and a Buddhist Tomb?
Or how about I dye my hair purple and wear rings in my ears? Or how about I think about it?
All of these must be hate crimes because ...

Liberal Activists Step Up Campaign Against FOX News
July 28, 2007 - 12:39 ET by ThisnThatThis article shows how the KOS and Moveon are going to attack Fox News -- they are going after local advertisers. They are asking thousands of supporters to monitor who is advertising on the network. Once a database is gathered, an organized phone-calling campaign will begin.
This campaign is also recording Fox News statements as videos. Get this -- they are trying to compile statements made by Fox anchors and guests that the activists consider misleading, such as those that question global warming.
So, these lib activists are trying to crush anyone who tells the truth; questions the liberal mantra; or doesn't kow-tow to left-defined "popular" thought?
I wonder if they are going to start breaking the windows of the store owners who advertise, and paint the Star of David on those businesses, just like Hitler did? It wouldn't surprise me at all.

July 28, 2007 - 12:57 ET by BondPlainBondThe Democrats have launched over 300 investigations, had over 350 requests for documents and interviews, and they have had over 600 oversight hearings in just about 100 days. The vast majority calling into question the ethics of Republicans. The MSM barely mentions the wrong-doings of Democrats, if the MSM even bothers to disclose the Democrat political party affiliation in the story to begin with, and this continued obfuscation is dangerous.
When the hell are they going to investigate their own that are blantantly breaking the law and flaunting it? Specifically, Pelosi and Feinstein.
Paralleling the words of Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) from a recent e-mail; For months, many Democratic senators have used their majority to bully anyone who questions the world as they see it. They squelch dissent, attack critics, and have exercised no oversight. And they're getting away with it because they control the House and the Senate.
Speaker Pelosi, already found guilty of wrongdoing in 2003 for campaign finance fraud for which she paid a menial fine, has raised serious ethical concerns for her role in the Presidio Partners, Hunters Point Redevelopment, and many other real estate dealings in which she, or her immediate family, have been involved. Speaker Pelosi's role with InfoUSA, via the employment of her son, Paul, is also suspect and also raises serious ethical concerns as a conflict of interest due to her son's ability to specifically review voter rolls via his employment with InfoUSA.
Senator Feinstein has raised serious ethical questions in the confirmed and verified reporting of her passing millions of dollars in military contracts to her husband while she was on the Senate Subcommittee on Military Construction Appropriations.
In keeping with Speaker Pelosi's fervent dictum quoted above, we the people should demand not just high ethical standards, but also transparency, disclosure, and accountability to make these standards effective. And, as both Speaker Pelosi and Senator Feinstein have given the appearance of wrongdoing, we should demand they be held accountable to the voting public for their questionable and unlawful actions.
Pelosi and Feinstein should be investigated NOW. They are continuing to make personal profit from their political positions with each day that passes.
Pelosi, Feinstein, Clinton, Edwards, Obama, Richardson, Gore, and Kerry are all connected to George Soros. His close financial association with a myriad of Democrats, so very willing to take full advantage of his financial backing and evil influence, is frightening. It is more compelling evidence that Soros has bought, and now owns, the Democrats.
Interesting that Mrs Clinton will distance herself from InfoUSA's Mr Gupta, but Pelosi will not. Interesting, too, that Mrs Clinton maintains her close financial and political ties to George Soros.

It's good to know, though, that Mrs Clinton reveres and respects George Soros so deeply and that she shares his views about America. Mrs Clinton, without a shred of doubt, has revealed how she REALLY feels about America.

July 28, 2007 - 14:53 ET by botgDemocrats have launched over 300 investigations, had over 350 requests for documents and interviews, and they have had over 600 oversight hearings in just about 100 days
aren't they building a case for abuse of process?

Schumer/Specter typical POS
July 28, 2007 - 15:11 ET by bigtimerThat is exactly how I see it botg...
By the way, I am sure you know, but others may not.
(Also may have been posted elsewhere in the last few days)
Nevertheless this is absolutely infuriating by Specter and Sen.Schumer.
When oh when can we rid this country of these two enemies within that sit on the Judiciary Committee?
I have been furious with the likes of Rove for not backing Toomey to defeat Specter with money and support.
G'day bigtimer
July 28, 2007 - 15:33 ET by botgi've commented on the chuckster elsewhere, now Spectre only kept his position after some major wrangling and i hope is stripped of any leadership at the next session until his removal at the next election
there seems to be a movement in Congress to assume authority over the POTUS and SCOTUS. I am waiting for these two branches to begin their own probes into Congress. Can not the SCOTUS choose what cases to take and 'request' the attorneys provide additional information and witnesses. Can not the POTUS launch investigations with supenoena power?

bot... ...well can you
July 28, 2007 - 15:38 ET by bigtimerbot...
...well can you believe what Specter is doing here?
UNBELEVABLE to me!
This is the very first I have heard of this investigation...granted I haven't been here or into politics much this week, but this is the first I heard of this in the link I put above.
Just how in the hell do they think they are going to undo a SC Judge?
Filthy POS.
Spectre
July 28, 2007 - 15:44 ET by botgmade certain promises to maintain his position, seems this crap goes against those assurances.

Spectre is a Liberal
July 28, 2007 - 18:11 ET by ThisnThatHere are the biggest complaints according to the Post: "Those [SCOTUS Decisions] that have earned the most criticism from liberals were rulings that struck down desegregation programs, upheld a federal law prohibiting late-term abortions and weakened restrictions on broadcast ads during campaigns."
I noticed that neither Spectre nor Shumer were nominated to the Supreme court. If the Supreme court doesn't agree with these liberal positions, then too bad. For Schumer to suggest that no more justices will be nominated? Well, that's simply unconstitutional, and if he puts this in practice, he needs to be impeached.

July 28, 2007 - 18:31 ET by botgi see you have adopted my 'ghost of a conservative' moniker for Arlen
Maybe the two of them can overturn the Warren Courts rulings based on their ignoring 'stare' (decisis)

Bonds has one to go
July 28, 2007 - 14:45 ET by pickerseniorBarry's Steroids and dishonesty hit the home runs. Not Barry. Who holds him up as a hero of Baseball?
Nice example for your kids.

Barry's ball hitting and dishonesty
July 28, 2007 - 17:26 ET by dagdaBarry Bonds is the result of policies of the MLB who overlooked the steriod problem and the Players's Union which walked hand in hand with them. MLB was looking at the bottom line.
Having watched Barry when he was a collegiate player at ASU, he was always working on his hitting skills. However, I vote that he is on something. Good as he is naturally, I do not think he is as good as his record without some outside help.
Our real problem, then, is not our strength today; it is rather the vital necessity of action today to ensure our strength tomorrow. Dwight Eisenhower
I have yet to meet a single
July 28, 2007 - 17:33 ET by sarcasmoI have yet to meet a single person who does not put an asterisk and say, "it's still Hank Aaron." Not one. And part of the genesis of this problem in the late '70s & early '80s was big government overlooking steriods in favor of going after more politically-incorrect illegal drugs.

Baseball Stars
July 28, 2007 - 18:28 ET by ChaitealoverHappily, my grandkids got to grow up watching a great hitter and good man here in San Diego. Never a hint of cheating throughout a distinguished career. Congratulations on your entry in the Baseball Hall of Fame, Tony Gwynn!
MLB
July 28, 2007 - 19:06 ET by dvdaughtryI am not sure how it is/was cheating when there was not a rule to break.
Next, why is Bonds the only one to get thrown under the bus? Clemens has had an identical body tranformation and his career was not in HOF shape when he left Boston (then went to Toronto).
He was the best before the allegations, and he is the best now. Want some more proof? Look at his intentional base on balls compared Aaron. Bonds has 676 compared to Aarons 293. They would walk Bonds to get to Ruth.
Bottom line, Bonds is a jerk and people love to hate him. If he was Ken Griffey Jr. we wouldn't be having this conversation.
Charlie, here comes the deuce. And when you speak of me, speak well.
Just wanted to throw this
July 28, 2007 - 16:14 ET by bigtimerJust wanted to throw this in the mix and see what others thought of all of this.
Here is one link, here is the other.
I know it is slow today, but this does seem important with the situation in the middle east and the war.
