If you vote for Ron Paul and Ron Paul wins then it is Paul against Hillary. Then I have a real problem. Which of two evils do I vote for. Or who do I vote against.
This is a really bad strategy. You vote for who you want in the primary and let the voters decide who is going to going to compete in the general.
A better strategy would be to cross party lines and vote in the Democratic primary and vote for Al Sharpton. If all Republicans changed their registration to Democratic and voted in the Democratic primary they could pick a very beatable candidate. This would drive the Democrats nuts.
Our real problem, then, is not our strength today; it is rather the vital necessity of action today to ensure our strength tomorrow. Dwight Eisenhower
How's this guy "evil" again? Sorry... I read the article until I got to the "I was opposed to going into Iraq..." part and realized this is just another misinformed pinhead writing.
How does one make decisions based on what is success or failure during combat? Did you know that the phrase the "attack on Pearl Harbor" didn't come into wide use until after the war? From Dec. 1941 until late 1946 the date was usually referred to as the "defeat at Pearl Harbor". How many times did we have a lack of success on Guadalcanal? How about after the Germans came through Belgium in 1944? How about when the North Koreans almost pushed us out of South Korea? All of these were examples of "defeat", as would be described by Liberals and guys like the writer of that article today, that ended up turning into great victories. In short, the game isn't won or lost in the 7th inning... it's won in the 9th.
When I read articles that start out with disagreement about the war, and then go on to discuss things like "no WMDs", "no links to terrorists", etc., I know that these folks don't know anything more about why we went into Iraq besides what they got from the MSM... so I choose to ignore them.
(oops, that last comment ended up in the wrong place!) Anyway, why do people assume that declaring a war is not possible? A delay may have allowed other, cheaper means to dispose of Saddam, for all we know (and as far as Saddam being evil, I was against our alliance with him in the '80s for that reason, so it's nothing new to let evil go-on around there, obviously!). Anyway, I'm interested in the foreign policy views of those who say that declaration of war thing is old fashioned, because I disagree. I just think it's Constitutional.
JMR
What exactly does a war declaration achieve nowadays? Or ever? If you read The Savage Wars Of Peace by Max Boot, you will find MANY conflicts that did not have war declarations attached to them.
I suppose that you are such a reactionary in matters diplomatic that you want the United States diplomatic corps to also engage in bribery?
As politicians say, the game is between the 20's ... according to the polls, 40% will vote Democrat no matter what, 40% will vote Republican no matter what, and the remaining 20% decide the election. Strategically, then, the whole campaign depends on attracting that 20%. If you can argue that appealing to libertarians will make a difference in that 20%, then you have a case. But let's face some uncomfortable truths ... after two full years of campaigning and TV coverage, that 20% can only remain undecided if they weren't paying attention until the last minute. Serious libertarians are usually not so casual and inattentive (and I'm not a libertarian).
Why pull punches? Let's say that the endless campaign cuts the undecided down to 10%. We're still over a year from election day, and we already know everything about these candidates. If you're still undecided by election day, I'd bet that you're going to cast your vote based on your last minute mood-swing. (That's why Mark Foley was so damaging in 2006, and why Rahm Emanuel didn't break that scandal until people were forming their last-minute mood swings.) Strategies about party primaries will mean nothing.
I don't think that assumption is going to work in 2008, and for the following reasons:
1. This will be the first time that a woman and a black (and maybe both) will be on a ticket. While there has been a lot of "you've come a long way baby!" progress by both women and blacks over the years, there are still a lot of people who will not vote for either to be President. Factor in that many of these fall into the middle class working/union member crowd, and I think this prejudice hits hard at Democrats.
2. Hillary has as many haters as fans, so assuming she's the nominee, there are a lot of people who will vote against her rather than for a Republican.
3. There is a bias on the part of blacks against other blacks who are perceived to be "better than everyone else", so being a black candidate can have its setbacks with a lot of black voters.
Based on the ways that Democrats are blowing what little political capital they had, I think we're in for a McGovern II butt kicking.

Does Wall Street prefer Democrats? According to ABC news they do. This poll may be biased but even if it is somewhat true, the GOP better gets its act together very quickly.
One can only imagine the back room deals on something like that. Yet the dems and MSM continue to paint the Republicans as the lapdogs of big business and the democrats as the party of the common man! Simply amazing!

I know most people on here think the media hasn't given the full story on Saddam Hussein's Iraq and al Qaeda. They are right.
I just finished posting a list members of Saddam's regime who have been caught working with al Qaeda since 2002 (yes, prior to invasion). The list is up here:
Here's the problem that I have. Most of the names of that list are described as "known to be...", "associated with...", etc. I think the process of tying Iraqis to terrorist groups has become like the Salem Witch trials, by that I mean anyone can make an allegation against anyone else, and since the terrorists aren't confirming or denying these stories, who's to say if they are right or not?
We had to take out Iraq because Hussein was dead set on taking over the Middle East and unifying it into one state under his control, and we could not allow that to happen. All of the rest of the soundbite reasoning (WMDs, terrorist links, death squads, etc.) is just something to tell the folks who can't see the big picture.
Just in time for your Monday lunch reading pleasure....
Well, Neal Boortz has managed to once again cheese off the C.A.I.R. crowd. It appears they have taken exception to Neal's referring to their peaceful little religion as a cult.
If you would like to hear the acyual call that started it all click here. (Warning: Link kind of iffy)
You can read Neal's comments on the matter here. You will also find his take on the Michael Vick situation, if you're interested.
Don't know why the highest paid player in the NFL would want to have anything to do with that. Its not like it could have made him much richer. Did he just enjoy being a part of such a disgusting practice? I heard that some witnesses have said he delivered the winning pot to them personally
Beats the hell out of me. This has been covered wall to wall around here since the story broke. You can't get away from it. The rumors that have been flying have been pretty bizarre, too.
I have no clue why he (allegedly) did this, given the kind of money he was making. Of course, it could very well have been one of those "family tradition" type things. Who knows?
I think Michael's biggest problem, aside from the federal charges, is the fact that he (apparently) lied to the faces of the new NFL commissioner, as well as to the Falcon's owner, Arthur Blank. That isn't going to sit well with either of them, especially if he is ultimately found guilty in all this.
Another problem for Michael is the fact that the jury pool will be coming from SC, near the area were he's from. From what I hear, those people take a very dim view of this sort of thing. That will also be true if the local authorities charge him as well, which appears likely.
I'm just glad I'm not Arthur Blank right now. He bet the fanchise on Michael Vick, essentially recruiting him himself. $130 mil is a lot of money. However, if Michael is allowed to play, the hullabaloo around him is going to be very distracting to the rest of the team, especially with a new head coach coming in, who will be introducing a whole new system and all. So, what do you do?
I'm glad I'm not the one having to make that call.
I'm glad I'm not the one having to make that call.
Dave,
Could not agree with you more. As much as owners talk about principals, it all boils down to $$$. I live in Northern Cali and it seems Giants fans could care less if Barry Bonds took steroids or not. That is the reason the Giants signed him on this season. The Giants front office knows they cannot sell out AT&T park without him.
Michael Vick could be a different story though. I can see fans not going to games out of protest.
My gut tells me Michael Vick's carreer may very well be over. I just don't see him coming back from this, unless he somehow beats the federal charges. The local media around here, which is usually pretty accurate in these matters, is saying the feds have people standing in line who are going to testify against him, so for the moment, it looks pretty bad.
And if the local authorities in SC go after him, where even owning the property on which dog fighting takes place is a felony, not to mention just being involved in it, then I'd say he is essentially toast. Burnt toast, to be exact.
Plus, the fans around here have been getting a little tired of Michael Vick. The Falcons have missed the playoffs two years running. Fans here aren't like fans in Green Bay or Denver, where they sell out no matter what. I bought four season tickets for the '99 season and was the loneliest guy in the section after the third game. I couldn't even give tickets away.
Its a real shame. Even though the Falcons did not do too well the last few years, I have been a football fan for a very long time and I have never seen a quarterback more exciting than Vick. No quarterback even compares"running wise" Not Steve Young, Steve Mcnair or even Donovan Mcnabb.
The man was faster than 3/4's of the wide receivers in the league. It would be interesting to see if he could outrun a pack of pitbulls after a 10 second start:)
It would be interesting to see if he could outrun a pack of pitbulls after a 10 second start:
LOL-funny you sould mention that, given the cartoon somebody sent Neal today.
Arthur Blank has always impressed me as a stand-up guy. In the end, I think Mr. Blank will do what is right for the team as a whole. Regardless of the big bucks involved, there are a lot more people involved than just Michael Vick. There are also the new coaches coming in, the other players as well as the fans.
If I were the owner, I would have to consider all of them.
Shawn, you've obviously never seen highlights of George Plimpton playing qb. If he isn't the greatest qb of all time, then I don't know who is. I'm sure he could take a hit from Mean Joe Greene and act like it was nothing. Not even Deacon Jones could stop someone like George Plimpton.
"I'm a man of means by no means, King of the Road" 'King of the Road"
I never heard of George Plimpton. Lol not sure if you are being saracastic or not because I just googled him and on wikipedia they said he was mainly a backup quarterback. There are many quarterbacks that are much more talented than Michael Vick, ie Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and even at his age Brett Favre. Not many quarterbacks as exciting to watch as Vick though.
Plimpton, who weighed 130 lbs soaking wet, went to the summer camp for the Detriot Lions to write an article on training camp experiences. He actually got in for one or two plays and was creamed. His article and the movie made from it is called Paper Lion.
Our real problem, then, is not our strength today; it is rather the vital necessity of action today to ensure our strength tomorrow. Dwight Eisenhower
Yeah Plimpton was like a PBS type of dude who tried out for the Lions and was like a third string qb. There was a movie called "Paper Lion" with Alan Alda about it as well. Plimpton also tried out for baseball or wanted to pitch batting practice in an all-star game or something like that. He seemed like a pretty cool person, but I really don't know too much about him.
"I'm a man of means by no means, King of the Road" 'King of the Road'
Plimpton was a sports writer who was will to try what he was writing about. I have seen him interviewed and he did seem like a nice guy with a lot of guts. :)
Our real problem, then, is not our strength today; it is rather the vital necessity of action today to ensure our strength tomorrow. Dwight Eisenhower
Why is it that every single athlete/team you like HAS to be "exciting"?
(If my fave teams are kicking ass and taking names and are NOT exciting, so be it. They are STILL the best, as far as I am concerned. Excitement is NICE, but not required.)
What did you expect? Plummer was "raised" in AZ to be THE guy, THE primary weapon. It wasn't much of a surprise to me to see him throw as many interceptions as he did after that experience.
As long as the Bidwills (sp?) own the Cardinals, they will suck. My old man was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan, but once they started whining for a new stadium, he turned his back on them. Most of what he had to say cannot be transcribed here.
Speaking of Pittsburgh and sports championships, the Pittsburgh Passion, the 'Burgh's womens professional football team, beat the Columbus Comets for the NWFA Championship in Nashville. The final score was 32 to 0.
Actually, Hillary said something similar to the same crowd, but is was far milder, as in no "promises" were made.
I noted over at HA that the national media most likely will not report this, in part, due to the fact that many blacks do not support amnesty, either. After all, many of them have lost their jobs to these illegals.
I would think a large percentage of legally immigrated people will take umbrage at this blatent circumvention of law. I know I would feel angry and dissillusioned if I had to go through all the red tape and waiting to become legal and then see criminals get a free ride towards citizenship.

We'll just need to agree to disagree about "Iraq," which I still think is three nations in civil war instead of one that can still be governed (non-brutally) from a single capital city, whether or not the UN wants to see it that way. And if my guess is right, you'll probably REALLY hate this article! :) ANd this is the middle of the Spartanburg Rally, it looks like it was fun.

If it is three nations, sarc, it would be a war. If it is a single nation, it is a civil war. Most countries have had to have at least one civil war to settle their differences.

They can, with a huge, expensive Saddam/Tito style brutal central government. But they can't any other way, apparently... Why can't repeated attempts at genocide by not just Saddam but the Turks and to a lesser extent the Iranians as well, justify at least a separate state for Kurdistan?

In other words, he is not going to bring it up because we already know this out here so NO need to bring up a bill that I know will be defeated....

Has anyone else noticed that the writing for The Half Hour News Hour, on FoxNews, has gotten somewhat better? Their sketches still fall a little flat (bad timing) but the news item jokes are sharper. I liked the one about the upcoming Democrat's debate on "gay issues" - it'll be done in the format of a musical.
Some of their "news items" are as funny as some of the ones on the old SNL Weekend Update. I laughed at the one regarding Giuliani's version of the Contract with America - they called it his "Pre-nupt with America"...
Right now we have the same problem in Arizona. We used to have one RINO and one Republican. But after they both joined Amnesty International, we have two, count them two RINOs.

Indeed, what Sarah Palin accomplished in AK should be a lesson to the entire Republican party, and indeed, to the voters. Yes, you CAN toss an incumbent in a primary and hold the seat.
bt-that's quite the puff piece. I agree, the media should be asking hillary about the involvement in her campaign of LA mayor Antonio (another can't keep it in his pants dem) and Fabian Nunez (protector of child predators in Calif).

Saddam and al Qaeda updates
July 23, 2007 - 10:54 ET by regimeofterrorI know most people on here think the media hasn't given the full story on Saddam Hussein's Iraq and al Qaeda. They are right.
I just finished posting a list members of Saddam's regime who have been caught working with al Qaeda since 2002 (yes, prior to invasion). The list is up here:

Comments section on my site is down but I'd appreciate any comments you guys can leave on here.

July 23, 2007 - 11:04 ET by BruzillaHere's the problem that I have.
All of the rest of the soundbite reasoning (WMDs, terrorist links, death squads, etc.) is just something to tell the folks who can't see the big picture.

shawn, Beats the hell out
July 23, 2007 - 11:37 ET by Dave Rshawn,
Beats the hell out of me.
Help Fred defeat everybody.

July 23, 2007 - 11:45 ET by shawn228I'm glad I'm not the one having to make that call.
Dave,
Could not agree with you more.
I can see fans not going to games out of protest.
shawn, My gut tells me
July 23, 2007 - 11:58 ET by Dave Rshawn,
My gut tells me Michael Vick's carreer may very well be over.
Help Fred defeat everybody.
Dave, Its a real shame.
July 23, 2007 - 12:06 ET by shawn228Dave,
Its a real shame.

July 23, 2007 - 12:31 ET by Dave RIt would be interesting to see if he could outrun a pack of pitbulls after a 10 second start:
LOL-funny you sould mention that, given the cartoon somebody sent Neal today.
Arthur Blank has always impressed me as a stand-up guy. In the end, I think Mr. Blank will do what is right for the team as a whole. Regardless of the big bucks involved, there are a lot more people involved than just Michael Vick. There are also the new coaches coming in, the other players as well as the fans.
If I were the owner, I would have to consider all of them.
Help Fred defeat everybody.

I never heard of George Plimpton. Lol not sure if you are being saracastic or not because I just googled him and on wikipedia they said he was mainly a backup quarterback.
