Donny Deutsch Blasts White House on MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' for Fox Feud

  • Bookmark and Share

Donny Deutsch said something on MSNBC's Morning Joe that was worth listening to.

I'll give you a moment to scrape your jaw off the floor.

Donny Deutsch, in addition to being a former CNBC host, is also a former advertising executive.  So when the following exchange takes place, you know he's actually speaking from some experience:
JOE SCARBOROUGH: Donny Deutsch, when I was running for office, in Congress, as a challenger I prayed every day the person that was thirty points ahead of me in the polls would bring up my name. When I became the incumbent, my challenger could have burned down my house - and I mean it - I would have never mentioned his name.

DONNY DEUTSCH: Marketing 101.

SCARBOROUGH: Why are they doing this?

DEUTSCH: I am shocked.  Here you have, it's the analogy of - you have Morning Joe, it's a big, serious show.  And let's say there was a little public access guy in, somewhere in Des Moines calling you out, and you calling him back.  They are elevating Fox. Think about this.  It's the President of the United States, the commander of the free world, versus a television network with a couple million viewers. It's a ratings bonanza.  It's insane - they should just be dismissive and laugh at them.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓
First of all, there is the obvious irony of Donny Deutsch being dismissive of Fox, the network that he describes in this interview as a "ratings juggernaut."  Remember, Deutsch is the guy whose show was canceled from CNBC for –  just not officially, that is –  low ratings. What’s more, the bar for business news-centered CNBC's ratings, if you didn't know, is extremely low – lower, in most cases, than CNN or MSNBC.  But I digress.

Putting aside that painful irony, Deutsch is actually making an excellent point.
SCARBOROUGH: It's Barack Obama against - let's just say it, Glenn Beck.
If the discussion is automatically geared toward a narrative of "The White House vs. Popular Television Host," your marketing gurus will say:
DEUTSCH: You're putting them in the same sentence.  They win!  Fox wins with that. That's what I'm saying.

Finally, for the piece de resistance, Deutsch praises the Bush administration:

DEUTSCH:   I don't think there is a strategic play there.  I think that they get at the end of the day, and they see the press conferences -

SCARBOROUGH: You think they - Rahm gets angry and they strike out?

DEUTSCH: Yeah, I think it's just, 'guys, we're not taking this anymore, we're going to fight back.' They're human beings.  You know, you forget that, sometimes, these people are human, and you get kicked and you get kicked and you get kicked.  And it's hard to have the discipline that you described in the Bush White House.

SCARBOROUGH: Hold on a second.  George Bush got kicked around more than anybody else.

DEUTSCH: Yeah, you're right.  He did it right.  That's one of the few things he did right. I agree with you.  That's the right playbook.
It's backhanded praise, but praise nonetheless.  From outspoken liberal Donny Deutsch, that's as good as it gets.

Compared to what? A show broadcast over walkie talkies?

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

Bear in mind, Donny Deutsch

Bear in mind, Donny Deutsch used to have his own show -- and by comparison, Morning Joe IS a big, important show.

His show was on CNBC.  Slightly above a walkie-talkie level :D

Compared to

Compared to all the trash MSNBC has as their evening line-up, yeah then Morning Joe is actually "serious".

It is all a matter of what your "standards" are.

HAHAHHA.  Great!

HAHAHHA.  Great!

Hey Donny Douche - they

Hey Donny Douche - they can't be dismissive.  FOX is the only real news network out there - the rest are Obamedia.

And if it was available OTA, instead of just cable, it would blow the "big" three out of the water.

well first off

As the Obama administration has shown with economics, they don't know what they are doing. Second it's too late ...

Beck is planning more this week, so he said on his radio show.

We need adults back, like Bush. At least he wasn't some Marxist pin-head who thought government spending was the way out of a recession.

"Donny Deutsch"

Deutsch is really really successful.

I know because every time he's on, he tells us!

Proof that anyone can make it in America!

LOL

LOL

I love all these cable

I love all these cable media types warning Obama against "raising" Fox News by openly warring with them. What they're saying, in effect, is "Stop it! Fox is killing us!".

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

Obscured Figures

"versus a television network with a couple million viewers."

Is Deutsch a little shaky on figures? Obviously since he believes Fox only has a few million viewers.

"For a people who are free, and who mean to remain so, a well-organized and armed militia is their best security."

Hey I forgot to tell you

Hey I forgot to tell you guys, though...after this segment, and before the commercial, Deutsch offered a peace offering to Mika -- eight hundred dollar shoes.

Being raised in the sticks, I had no idea that people would shell out that kind of dough for...shoes.  They're SHOES.  You put them on your feet and walk on them.  And they wear out, 'pon which you throw them in the garbage.  EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS.

The problem in this country is not the exorbitant CEO compensation...it's the fact that people are willing to drop eight freakin' C-notes on shoes.

I can't decide what's more shocking:  That Donny Deutsch praised the Bush administration; that he bashed the Obama administration; or that a self-righteous, ego-inflated blowhard like Donny Deutsch could, through no apparent redeeming quality, make enough money to buy $800 shoes as a gift, with no apparent negative repercussions.  More power to him, I just think a true meritocracy would have been more judicious.

What kind of shoes?

That's the important piece of info you left out.  :)

I hope he fails, too.

If you follow the link,

If you follow the link, you'll find the exact pair of shoes he gave her, via the Neiman Marcus catalogue :P

Ha!

They can be bought on line for about $225.

Of course, only an idiot would wear heels that high.....Mika?

I hope he fails, too.

Uh huh,

Those are those "catch me, hurt me, make me write bad checks" shoes....hehehe

More shocking???

How about the wife of a guy, who's only real job throughout his life was as a community organizer, buying $540 sneakers?

And wearing them to a food bank for the needy?

While hubby is on the public payroll?

And complaining about corporate executive excesses?

I know...

it's old news, but i couldn't resist adding to the shocking shoe syndrome.

Shoes

And those were some fugly sneakers, too!

LOL. yep they saw her

LOL. yep they saw her comming.

Good Grief!

It's difficult to keep up with the political schizophrenia of Donny Deutsch!

He only makes "half-sense".

I believe this was this segment wherein Joe Scarbourough made it seem as though President GW Bush had ignored MSNBC from the very first day of his Presidency.  Scarborough probably meant to leave that impression, though.  Trouble is, Dana Perino, President Bush's former Press Secretary, was on Fox & Friends a little earlier in the morning and explained it was only toward the end of President Bush's final term, when MSNBC resorted to very personal attacks that they were ignored.

Can't imagine why, though.  MSNBC simply allowed some of their employees to attack President Bush (and his Administration) personally; relentless comparisons to Hitler, assertions of facsism, brownshirt-wearing, lock-stepping, warmongering, lying, and the enthusiastic desire for Vice President Cheney to be shot on his next hunting trip, to mention but a couple of the foul commentaries emminating from MSNBC.

Deutsch did gift Mika with a beautiful pair of shoes this morning, though (sorry, I didn't catch the designer; signature red soles, though).  Mika said, after seeing the receipt classlessly left in the unwrapped shoebox presented her, well, slid across the table to her, a car could be bought for what the shoes cost.  And then she said he was "still a pervert."

That Morning Joe ensemble.  What a group of loons!

And good on Donnie for kinda makin' that point, too.

This WH administration is baffled

They seem to think that since they were able to snooker the Independents  for the election that their slickness would carry through for the entire term.

However ... stay tuned.

The Democratic party makes the Keystone Cops look like a precision drill team and 'their' Congress wins the Rube Goldberg award.

Deutsch is exactly right..

Deutsch is exactly right.. the White House and Obama adminstration are putting FOX news in the same sentence as the President.  A TV Network got under their skin and they couldn't take it!  I'm glad someone could point that out, even if it is Deutsch

Wow. Psychoville.

These people really do live in another universe.

1.  The Morning Joe show is a serious serious show.

2.  Fox News is elevated by being repeatedly attacked by the President and all his Czar's(Van Jones, Dunn).

3.  The President should just laugh at them and ignore them because he can take different opinions on things like Constitutional law.

I'm going to have to say..  No, and No.   And Oh Hell No.

These liberals don't understand the nature of Communists, despot's, and dictatorial regime's.

NOBODY CAN DISAGREE WITH THEM.  Nobody. That's how this works.

Fox is the only news outlet to say "Hey, that's UnConstitutional!
Again!  Yes, You - asshole!  Yea, you with the Che shirt and Dreams of
Weather Underground in your pants!"

First you control the media, and then you control the weapons.  In every country.  Every place.  Every period of time from the first recorded war 10,000 years ago; When socialists/communists/dictators/despots rose to power they have to do those two things.

Obama isn't playing the same game the "liberals" are.  He's on another level that they haven't figured out yet.  And by the time they do, they won't have a choice any more.

Give him his due. He is correct.

The increased ratings for Fox News bear him out.

If your cause is just. If you are right. Your message will speak for itself. This administration is pushing things forward the majority of Americans do not want.

People don't want their health care costs to go up just in help out yet another group of people. They already pay for health care for the poor and the old. It is enough.

People don't want the cost of everything they do and everything they buy to go up just to possibly change the temperature of the planet what, a fraction of a degree, maybe? We are still waiting for someone to tell us what the optimum temperature would be. And why if the predictions are 20 years old and we have been dropping in temperature for the last 10 years. Why was that not predicted?

People don't want unions. Unions KILL industries. They remove the flexibility from companies. And flexible companies don't survive hard times like now.

People don't want the fairness doctrine. It did not work the first time. Leave it alone.

People don't care about gay people in the military. It is not on the radar. We don't care. Only ultra leftists care. And they are not nice people to listen to to try and convince us to care.

People don't want the government to spend massive amounts of money. That money has to be paid back. In higher taxes.

Yet, you look in every case. The current White House is on the wrong side of every single issues. Worst Administration Evah! And Fox News is getting the message out. The Administration is it's own worst enemy.

Sincerely,

a Veteran of a 1000 psychic wars.

Deutsch is right.

Deutsch states: "It's the President of the United States, the commander of the free world, versus a television network with a couple million viewers."

As I wrote yesterday, "Fox News is seen by only 1 to 2% of the U. S. population. CNN and MSNBC are viewed by far less than that.

One big news story that seems to go unreported is that TV has hardly any audience anymore. Rush Limbaugh has more listeners than most TV shows have viewers."

It is just stupid for BO and his Buds to pick a fight over a news channel few in America watch.

SCARBOROUGH: .......George

SCARBOROUGH: .......George Bush got kicked around more than anybody else.

DEUTSCH:
Yeah, you're right.  He did it right.  That's one of the few things he
did right. I agree with you.  That's the right playbook.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Bush was looking to do right what Deutsch is saying he did right.  I think Bush moved forward with the business at hand, didn't have some big strategy about "lets not address the media that hammers us."  I think if he did it right, he just happened to do it right.  Maybe I'm wrong, it's just a thought.

As for the Obama.  Good freakin grief!  Here we have a president.......president, who thinks he's a little boy at school who's being called names.  He cannot control himself and ignore it.  He HAS to respond.  He thinks it makes him look like a big boy.  I believe Obama hasn't really ever been told no, or critiqued, in his life, and he can't stand it and doesn't know how to handle it.  The way he handles it, is to respond to every single criticism no matter the size.

Enjoy Fox News while you

Enjoy Fox News while you still can.

Thinking about taping some episodes so I can show my kid how this country was something like a free Republic.

Might take some snapshots of this site and a few others while I'm at it.

Of course, down the road I don't think the power will be on too much, but in between brown outs...

One of the 34% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 86% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory.

That's never going to

That's never going to happen . . .

as long as Obama does not get re-elected in 2012.  If he does, we'll be telling our Grandkids about what it was like when you had Presidents we elected, not a General-Secretary chosen by the UN, or worse, the Thugocracy from Chicago.

"President Obama is learning on the job and it shows."  --Boris Epshteyn

Free, I admire your optimism...

...as at least you still think "free" elections will be held here in 2012.

As for me, I am pretty much of the opinion that our last chance to save this country in any meaningful form will occur just over a year from now.

-Dave

Our elected representatives have failed us.

           The

The white house has shown it's true colors. They care nothing about the people, only the power. In 2010-2012, we will show OUR contempt for the way they have acted. They think they are royalty. They forget WE have the power. If not for the media, they wouldn't even be in office.
