CNN's Burnett: Obama 'Makes an MVP-like Political Move That Leaves Republicans Flat Footed'

By Mike Bates | June 16, 2012 | 14:42

On Friday's edition of CNN's Erin Burnett OutFront, the host was upfront in her enthusiasm for President Obama's immigration announcement, even including sound effects and grimacing when she spoke of "Republicans hissing like an angry cat cornered by the neighborhood dog." (video here):

ERIN BURNETT, CNN HOST: OUTFRONT next, the president makes an MVP-like political move that leaves Republicans flat footed. But is it the best policy for our country?

Mentioning two other stories, she resumed:

Let's go OUTFRONT.

OUTFRONT tonight. Backed into a corner. It's an awful noise, whenever you hear it. Love them or not, Republicans are the cats today. That's the sign of the Republicans hissing like an angry cat cornered by the neighborhood dog. Why? The president's order. Allowing immigrants under the age of 30 to stay in this country with two-year work visas. Those visas can be renewed unlimited times.

And later:

And the most pathetic part about the story today is that Republicans, the cats hissing in the corner, only have themselves to blame. They gave the president the upper hand.

After an Obama film clip:

BURNETT: All right, well, Republicans have kept the Democrat's version of the Dream Act on hold for a few years.

Contrary to Burnett's implication, Republicans were not alone in their opposition to the DREAM Act immigration bill.  In December of 2010, five Democratic senators joined Republicans in opposition.  Yet another Democratic senator opted to go to a holiday party rather than vote on the bill.

Good news for Obama and accomplices isn't easy to come by these days.  Spoilsports persist in examining his record on unemployment, deficits, foreclosures, the nation's credit rating, etc.  So when Erin can gush about "an MVP-like political move"by Obama, she will.  Then again, with her program contributing to CNN's ratings collapse, maybe she's just auditioning for a gig on ESPN.

Well, yeah, Erin....

Submitted by motherbelt on Sat, 06/16/2012 - 3:01pm.

that's what you can do when you're the Preezy!!

You can schedule a press conference and get everyone's attention and make "in your face" announcements.

It's one of the perks of the office.

Republicans aren't angry because they've been beaten.

They are angry because this president has once again issued an 'edict' as Noel called it, rather than using the approved legislative process.

You know, what the Democrats USED TO call the "imperial presidency" and the "unitary executive" before The Obama came into office.

the ones you're wearing are getting frayed.

A few years back, I couldn't imagine a member of the "fourth estate" being giddy about a president circumventing the law.  As a matter of fact, they were in high dudgeon about Nixon and Watergate, now it's just "MVP-like" when a president does it.

To re-elect Obama would be like the Titanic backing up and hitting the iceberg again.

Submitted by killa37 on Sat, 06/16/2012 - 3:03pm.

Ahhh, the talking points came out and are now being spouted off by morons like this dope-ette. I'm sayin' (Obamaspeak) that Boy Baraka stepped into another pile of Kenyan Kow Krap - something that he is getting increasingly more consistent at. The StateRun Media is now also in charge of keepin' his shoes clean.

And I know a little bit about cats - and I've seen more dogs suffer from backing a hissing cat into a corner than I've seen cats come out on the losing end.

Just wait for the next polls.

Submitted by stunned on Sat, 06/16/2012 - 3:42pm.

I was at a kids pool party this afternoon and an unemployed Dad went off about Obama's anmesty. No one Democrat there defended him!! More than a few there voted for Obama and when I asked who was going to do that again there was dead silence and one guy stated that he was planning to vote Republican across the board for the first time in his life and another guy admitted he hadn't voted since Reagan had just re-registered just to vote against Obama. This was a mostly Democrat group!! LOL Obama just keeps digging himself in deeper and we're going down with him.

Wait until next weeks polls and Obama takes a hit. The talking heads will be twisting themselves into knots trying to explain the "unexpected" drop in the polls after this brilliant move.

Note to Burnett, when talking Obama, you may want to hold off on the dog and cat references. Both are presumed to make Hussein salivate like a muslim watching shirtless school boys.

REALLY, Erin?

Submitted by Anon150 on Sun, 06/17/2012 - 5:20pm.

When the NYT opens their campaign analysis with: "The task for President Obama’s campaign this week: turn things around.", I REALLY don't think the Repubs are on the ropes, or are cats, or are anything but 'winning'.

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/06/10/obama-campaign-seeks-to-mo...

...And the rousing sentiment at the end of this article surely reflects the dominance that "Team Arugula" is displaying... and I quote:

"How the president handles those events — and others that might arise — could help redirect his campaign, for better or for worse."

YEAH! That's unbridled optimism there! Woo-Hoo!
