CNN Political Producer: 'We Know There Are a Lot of Businesses Who Have Been on a Hiring Streak'

Today on the 2:00 pm segment of CNN Newsroom, anchor Randi Kaye spoke with CNN political producer Shannon Travis about criticism directed at President Barack Obama:

TRAVIS: Yes, really, really quickly, billionaire Steve Wynn, you've seen his resorts all over Las Vegas. He's blasting President Obama. I'm going to read this quote from a call, an earnings call yesterday. Quote, "I'm saying it bluntly that this administration is the greatest wet blanket to business and progress and job creation in my lifetime". Those are from Steve Wynn.

We know there are a lot of businesses who have been on a hiring streak, Randi, but this is what Steve Wynn, billionaire real estate mogul in Las Vegas thinks about the Obama administration.

What hiring streak is Travis talking about?  CNN Money.com reported last week that initial unemployment claims remained above the 400,000 mark for the 14th straight week.  The Bureau of Labor Statistics noted in its June, 2011 report that there are now 14.1 million Americans out of work.  The same agency pegged that number at 11.6 for January, 2009, the month Barack Obama took office.

According to a U.S. Chamber of Congress analysis last week, only 19 percent of small-business executives expect to add to their payrolls in the next year.  Twelve percent plan on cutting jobs while 62 percent said they're not planning on hiring.

Some in the mainstream media still want to protect Obama, even if it puts whatever little credibility they have left at stake.  The more than 14 million Americans who still can't find work after Obama's $800 billion stimulus would love for CNN to identify those many businesses that are on a hiring streak.

And unemployment offices around the country will need to start hiring/stimulating extra help... no he got it right - trust him. You just don't see it, 'cause he's the smartest guy in the room.

CNN is talking about firing

Submitted by jdhawk on Tue, 07/19/2011 - 5:08pm.

CNN is talking about firing not hiring (note the subtle difference in the spelling - anyone could be confused).

In regard to firing, Cisco announced the shedding of 10,000 jobs and has succeeded in shedding 6500 jobs so far. GE has shed tens of thousands of jobs since the recession began, but has added thousands of jobs overseas. Did I mention they paid no taxes this fiscal year?

duhbama awarded $2 Billion dollars in loans and guarantees to Petrobras, a Brazilian energy company, so that thy could do in Brazil - drill for oil - what the president refuses our own energy companies to do here in the United States. That must be the hiring that CNN is talking about - Brazilian workers. They are the same as American workers, right?

Yeah, it is still another, "Summer of Recovery!"

I think he is a dick, too!

You forgot “Embraer”
Remember Obama wanted to make Brazil a major country we do business with?
Remember Obama and his “corporate jet jihad”, that will kill domestic manufactures?
Well Brazil is a major player in the “corporate jet” business.
Enter “Embraer” one of the largest aircraft manufacturers in the world!

Now we need to convince YOU of it before the election so that we may continue this economic boom o which this country has never seen before. (Except for the Great Depression)

How's Jenk-off Uighur doing with his newly discovered free time in this booming over employed economy?

Why doesn't o'bama just add 6 to 7 million more government jobs? Wouldn't that put all of the unemployed back to work?

This is just like Obama's

Submitted by tcm14 on Tue, 07/19/2011 - 5:40pm.

This is just like Obama's comment last week that 80% of Americans favor tax increases. When in doubt, they just make stuff up.

That would be pretty outrageous if he had in fact said it.

Submitted by Jer on Tue, 07/19/2011 - 8:09pm.

The fact that he didn't puts things in a different light however. What he said was that 80% preferred a compromise package consisting of both tax revenues [e.g. closing loopholes or some hikes] and spending cuts--but weighted toward spending cuts. When in doubt, check your facts. Don't make stuff up.

Taxes ARE Revenues

Submitted by jon_torlin on Tue, 07/19/2011 - 11:21pm.

The only way a government gets its money is through revenue, the TRUE revenue being through sales taxes.  But because you have the IRS which *gasp* stands for Internal Revenue Service, they collect taxes in other ways, which is revenue for them.

They are just trying to put a bogus spin on something that's normally got negative connotations(and it always will) and trying to pretty it up by giving everyone rose colored glasses which is just shy of seeing red when people get taxed even more.  It's the same line of bullsh!t that they gave us saying the public doesn't understand how it works, but the public sure as hell knows when they are getting robbed.

The government made more revenue when taxes were down because people were spending more money.  Since people aren't spending much money these days, the crooks in DC are getting it in other ways.

It's ALWAYS taxes.

The Virtual Reality Continues

Submitted by Chris Norman on Tue, 07/19/2011 - 8:46pm.

Another example of what I'm talking about when I say the MSM tries to create a "virtual reality" world where things are very different from the one we actually live in. If you stayed in your house and watched only the MSM, you'd think the country was well on it's way to a healthy economy because of Obama. Conversely, when a Republican is president, even if the economy is doing okay, you'd think that there were millions and millions of homeless people in soup lines.
